That’s how we ended up migrating to Japan. The people who caught us when we fell were the members of the Holy Aqua Faith. They didn’t just save us; they’ve been our backbone ever since.
”Morning, Leti-ne,” my younger sister Serafina said. She’s a uni student, and she was still rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she shuffled in.
”Morning, Sera. You hitting the part-time grind again today?”
”Yeah. Lady Emily is due any second,” Serafina replied. “The lounge is going to be packed with people for the baby shower.”
Sera works at the lounge in the Fuji Department Store inside the Shirogane Kingdom². We owe that to Chairwoman Fuji Ranko. She’s the one who hooked me up with the maid gig and got Sera that job. As we stood there side-by-side brushing our teeth, our older sister Beatrice walked in.
”Morning, Leti, Sera,” Beatrice said.
”Morning, Bea-ne,” we chimed in.
The three of us lined up in front of the mirror. In the reflection, I could see Papa and Mama wrapped up in a hug behind us.
”My honey… it kills me to leave, but I have to get to work,” Bernard said.
”I know, dear. Give it your all today,” Mama replied.
We watched our lovey-dovey parents and shared a silent, smiling look. (It must be nice, Mama being loved that much. I’d love to marry someone as kind and passionate as Papa… but with this body, I don’t stand a chance.)
I caught a glimpse of my chest in the mirror and felt my heart sink. Our mom is incredibly well-endowed, and it looks like we all inherited the trait—everyone in our line is an I-cup or larger. Apparently, in this country, big breasts are a total turn-off. I’m basically destined to be a lifelong bachelorette. Just thinking about it was enough to ruin my morning.
”Wait, isn’t today a work day for you too, Leti?” Beatrice asked.
”Yeah. Lady Emily’s due date got pushed back, so the shifts shifted. I’m the one on call today,” I replied.
I remember how terrified I was when I first started as a maid in the Shirogane Kingdom. You hear stories about how arrogant women become when they’re partnered with high-status men—I was sure I’d end up as some noble’s punching bag. But honestly, most of the women here are incredibly kind. Sure, Victoria-sama is a stickler for the rules, but I eventually realized she’s only strict because she wants to protect us. Then there’s someone like Kohina Yukari-san. She’s a total disaster when it comes to basic life skills, but she’s way more considerate than the internet makes her out to be. She’s just… hopeless at existing. Honestly, I have no idea how she survived living alone before she met Aqua-sama.
”Alright, you two, go get dressed. I’ll drive you in,” Beatrice said.
”Score! Thanks, Bea-ne!” we shouted.
After getting ready, Sera and I yelled our goodbyes to our parents—who were still hugging in the living room—and headed out. Beatrice was already by the car, adjusting her hair. She works at Beryl, a place every woman in the country dreams of getting into. Because of her experience in the States, she handles their international accounts.
We piled in and headed toward the Shirogane Kingdom. Looking out the window at the men walking freely down the street, I couldn’t help but be impressed. (Aqua-sama really is something else.) Since his big broadcast, Japan has actually felt normal again—like the days before the Meteorite Proclamation. Between his charisma and that lightning-fast decision-making, he’s in a league of his own. It’s no wonder he beat out the President and Prime Minister Habu Chiyoko for the cover of “100 Global Leaders.”
The car pulled up to the gate, and we were immediately swarmed by a dozen guards. “IDs, please. Everyone out of the vehicle. Sorry, but it’s the rules,” one guard said.
The security here makes a world bank look like a lemonade stand. We went through the whole gauntlet: fingerprints, retina scans, the works. Once we cleared, Beatrice dropped us off. I split up from Sera and headed to the locker room to change. (I actually love these maid uniforms. They’re classic, but the detail work is so cute.)
I hurried over to the medical wing. Lady Emily was in bed, looking dead serious while talking to Kaede-san.
”Hey, Kaede-paisen… is this kid really coming out today?” Emily asked.
”Don’t get cocky, Emily. This hits you fast. Legit,” Kaede replied.
(I wouldn’t know. I’ve never even been with a man, let alone dealt with a pregnancy.)
”Agh! Crap, I think it’s happening! Ow, ow, ow!” Emily screamed.
”Stay with me, Emily! Power! Use the Power Birth Method! Force it!” Kaede shouted.
Everything went into overdrive. I ran to get Dr. Miyamochi, and they rushed Emily into the delivery room. Once she was settled, she seemed to calm down a bit. (Seriously, though, what is a ‘Power Birth Method’³? Papa told me not to overthink the things Kaede-san says, but I can’t help it.)
Suddenly, Aqua-sama came skidding into the room like a literal action hero. “Emily! Are you okay!?”
”Aqua-sama…!” Emily gasped.
He’s always there when it counts. He missed the other births because of ’embarrassment’ or because they happened too fast, so he was visibly hyped to finally be part of one. We all watched him fussing over her with a cup of water, feeling all warm and fuzzy—right until the rest of the ladies arrived. Once Kanon-sama, Victoria-sama, and Mary-sama showed up, our jobs were basically redundant.
”We’ve got Emily-senpai from here. You girls can head back to your other duties,” one of them said.
I was going about my business when a senior maid told me I was being summoned to the Holy Aqua Faith headquarters. That never happens. I handed off my chores and followed the Saint’s Elite Guard to a private room.
”Damn… you’re packing some seriously sinful curves,” one guard said.
I turned bright red and tried to cover my chest.
”Is she a ‘pass’ just on the curves alone?” another asked.
”I don’t know. They’re a bit much for the Saint’s look, aren’t they?”
”But you were just complaining the last girl wasn’t provocative enough! We can just bind them to adjust the size,” the guards argued.
(What are these people even talking about?) They were staring at me like I was a piece of meat on a display rack. I was dying of embarrassment when the back door slid open.
”Easy, girls. Don’t go scaring the newcomer,” a voice said.
The guards all bowed immediately. (Who is this? Someone high up?)
”Lord Servant, this is the candidate for the Saint’s body double,” a guard said.
”I see… though her chest is… well, it’s quite a bit larger than the Saint’s,” the one called Servant noted.
I’ve seen the Saint from a distance. She was definitely smaller than me, even if she was still big by normal standards.
”But Lord Servant, look at the sheer magnetism of this girl! I’m telling you, she’s the closest match to the Saint we’ve ever found! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find someone this ‘gifted’ among the faithful!?”
I wanted to crawl into a hole. (Is my body really that ‘gifted’? To the Church, I guess that’s a compliment, but it’s just plain awkward for me.)
”Alright, alright. I hear you,” Servant said, waving them off before stepping closer to me. “Sorry about them. They aren’t malicious, they just get a bit… passionate… when they see a physique like yours.”
”I… it’s fine,” I stammered.
The one called Servant was wearing a fox mask that hid everything but a smirk. I remembered what my senior told me—that below the Saint, the Church was run by executives known as the Twelve Bishops.”
Perhaps she was one of them. After all, if someone ranked higher than the Saint’s Elite Guard, I could only think of a few people of that caliber.
”I’m sure you’ve heard,” the woman said, “but Saint Emily-sama is an incredibly busy person. That’s why we’re looking for a body double to stand in for her when she can’t appear in public. It seems the lot has fallen to you.”
”M-me? The Saint-sama’s body double!?” I stammered. “That’s impossible. I couldn’t…”
Servant-sama sat down and met my eyes, gently explaining the role of a shadow. “We aren’t just looking at you; we’re planning to have several doubles. Besides, most of the work is just showing your face for a moment. You don’t have to be so scared; it’ll be Dai-joubu⁴.”

I actually started to think I could do it. She was just that good at persuading people.
”So, please? Just for a little while, could you lend us your strength? It would be a massive help to us,” Servant-san said.
”Umm… well, if it’s only a little…”
Servant-san and the members of the Saint’s Elite Guard rejoiced at my words.
(I’m such an idiot… I’m such a pushover compared to my big sister or Sera!)
Following their lead, I headed toward the Saint-sama’s private chambers to change into the Saint-sama’s vestments.
”Wait! Someone’s in there,” Servant-san whispered.
We reached the room, and the Saint’s Elite Guard immediately took a defensive stance at her warning.
”Oh my. What is everyone so flustered about?” a voice asked.
The group stood frozen in shock. A moment later, the chair in the center of the room spun⁵ around, and Saint Emily-sama appeared right before our eyes.
”…Who are you?” I asked.
”Who am I? I’m the Saint-sama, obviously,” she replied. “Kukuri, did you forget about me too?”
(Wait, what? Kukuri? As in that Kukuri-sama!?)
I looked toward Servant-san. She looked absolutely panicked.
”Alright, let’s drop the act. Nice to meet you, Servant-san. I’m one of the Twelve Bishops⁶, The Duo. Does that ring a bell?”
”You’re The Duo? Where’s your proof?” Servant-san asked.
The Duo pulled a small token from her cleavage and showed it to us.
(Wait, that’s—! That’s the mysterious mark Aqua-sama drew during the first Beryl Fest⁷!!)
”That belongs to the Twelve Bishops… I suppose you aren’t lying,” Servant-san said.
Kukuri-san raised a hand, signaling the Saint’s Elite Guard to stand down.
”So, what was the point of scaring us like that?” Kukuri-san asked.
”No real reason. I just wanted to see the looks on your faces…”
We all nearly keeled over at her answer. The Holy Church of Aqua certainly had its share of eccentrics.
(This ridiculous attitude… she’s just like the real Saint-sama.)
(She even nailed that charming tehe-pero face.)
(That obsession with cheap thrills is a perfect match for the Saint-sama.)

I wondered if the real Saint Emily-sama was actually like this. As an ordinary believer, I wouldn’t know, but perhaps she showed a different side to the Saint’s Elite Guard who had been with her for so long.
”Sigh… I just met you, and I’m already exhausted,” Kukuri-san said.
”Yeah, everyone says that,” the fake Saint-sama replied.
She stood up and walked toward us. I had only ever seen the real Saint-sama from a distance, but even from this close, the resemblance was uncanny.
”Well, if you need a body double for the Saint-sama, let me know. Here’s my contact info. I’ve done my part, so I’m heading out. Ciao!”
”Wait, hold on—”
Before Kukuri-san could finish, she was gone. In the split second we were all stunned, The Duo-san vanished. The Saint’s Elite Guard and Servant-san began discussing things I didn’t understand, and since the situation didn’t get any messier, I was eventually sent back to the Shirogane Kingdom.

”Come on, Emily! Huff… huff… huff… it’s the Hoge-! Use the Hoge-breathing method⁸!”
I didn’t know what the Hoge-breathing method was supposed to be. When I entered the labor room again, Kaede-san was by Emily-sama’s side. It seemed like the labor was dragging on, so the others had stepped out to a separate room to eat. Hours later, as midnight approached, Emily-sama was moved into the delivery room.
”It’s a boy!”
”We did it! You were amazing, Emily! Thank you, Emily!!”
Aqua-sama held the child in his arms, weeping with joy.
”Doctor, the time!?” someone shouted.
”Let’s see… the time is…”
Doctor Miyamochi froze as she looked at the clock. It was 12:01 AM. That meant the child would be in a different school year than Kanon-sama’s children.
”Doctor! It was 11:59 PM when the baby was born! I’m certain of it!!”
Every person in the room turned to glare at Miyamochi.
”Then… 11:59 PM it is!!” the doctor squeaked.
””””YES!!!!””””
Kanon-sama, Kaede-san, and Kotono-san all hugged Emily-sama in celebration. They really were determined to have their children in the same grade.
”You really took that down to the wire!”
”Seriously, just like when we started dating, Emily-senpai, you always keep us on the edge of our seats!”
”Seriously, you made us worry until the very last second!”
Watching them rejoice from a distance gave me a warm feeling. Then I realized Aqua-sama was standing right next to me.
”Wait, why are you over here?” I asked.
”I… I got pushed out,” he replied.
As we spoke, Kohina Yukari-san approached with a ball in her hand. “Aqua. Things are under control here, so why don’t you go play some baseball or something to kill time?”
”Alright… I understand,” he said.
I felt a bit sad watching the melancholy silhouette of Aqua-sama’s back as he trudged off to play baseball.
