Volume 10 Chapter 71 Decisive Battle! vs. Vampire Princess Viola ②

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 (Hey, “Great Sage”-sama.)

 (Hmm?)

(Wasn’t Flavia supposed to be the one to counter Viola? The girl is parrying every single one of our attacks by herself.)

Lizamis fell silent at Klock’s biting remark. Watching the flow of the battle, he was likely just as perplexed. The sheer hopelessness of the situation was written on everyone’s faces.

(Her physical prowess is terrifying. I truly believed that no Vampire Apostle¹ could stand against Flavia’s destructive output. My apologies. That girl’s combat performance has far exceeded my wildest calculations.)

It wasn’t just Lizamis; even Klock, who knew exactly how monstrous Viola was, found his own understanding of her power being shattered in real-time.

”Yay!! You’re never gonna beat Vio-Vio like that! Pri-Pri, you totally blew your load on magic power with that Land Tsunami². Fla-Fla, your ‘mega-scary’ magic is so slow it’s basically useless. Min-Min, you’ve got the best balance, but your cardio is trash. You’re already huffing and puffing!”

The chaotic socialite Vampire Princess Viola struck a series of bizarre poses. She looked so refreshed it was hard to believe she’d been a blur of motion just seconds ago. The team she had been toyed with could only grimace in bitter frustration.

”Dammit. I knew she was good, but this is insane…!” Klock hissed.

 ”She’s too fast…!” Flavia added.

 ”Nyaa…” Meina whimpered.

Even with four people coordinating their assault, Viola held the high ground. Her flight speed was simply off the charts.

Klock couldn’t even find an opening to use the Cianie Knife effectively, and the mages, Primlena and Flavia, found it nearly impossible to weave their spells under her relentless pressure. Not a single person could land a scratch on her.

 ”Meina, you okay?” Klock asked.

”Yeah… but I’m totally tapped out on magic…!”

To make matters worse, Meina’s exhaustion had hit its peak. By trying to cover both offense and defense, she had burned through twice the energy of anyone else.

As the one with the highest natural physical ability, the entire burden of the front line had fallen onto her shoulders. She was the only one capable of actually parrying Viola’s strikes.

Between Primlena using the Dragon-Breath Tiered Wave³ and Meina’s constant shifting, the group was running on empty. Meanwhile, Viola looked like she hadn’t even broken a sweat.

”Min-Min on defense, Pri-Pri on support, and Klock and Fla-Fla on DPS. The balance isn’t bad, but your teamwork is a total disaster,” Viola chirped, beginning a casual critique of their performance.

She landed gracefully atop a defensive turret, looking down at the gasping group with a smug grin. She was savoring her victory. Slowly, her crimson eyes locked onto Klock.

 ”Whoops! Too slow, too slow!”

Klock didn’t have the luxury of holding back. He white-knuckled the Cianie Knife, launching a localized shockwave without even swinging the physical blade.

But Viola just flicked it away with a casual finger before it even reached her. Even an instantaneous, zero-motion surprise attack didn’t faze her. Her ability to react after the fact was borderline supernatural.

”I think it’s about time we wrapped this up,” Viola said.

”Huh? What the hell are you talking about? We’re just getting started!”

Klock readied his blade, but the moment the words left his mouth, a foot slammed into his right hand.

 ”—?!”

Klock was tackled from behind and pinned. A new player had entered the game. His knife clattered across the stone floor as he was pressed into the ground. He felt the heat of a woman’s breath against the nape of his neck.

 ”O Spear (Lancia)!!”

A spear whistled through the air at the last second, forcing the presence behind him to retreat. Klock scrambled to his feet, catching the Cianie Knife as it magically returned to his hand. He whirled around to face his would-be assassin.

 ”Rugandia…!!”

The girl stood there silently. Unlike the girl in the red dress who treated the battlefield like a VIP lounge, this was Viola’s childhood friend—a somber Vampire in a black robe. Her face was a mask of cold disappointment.

(She wasn’t testing me. She was actually going for the jugular.)

There was no hesitation, no mercy. Rugandia had seen a gap and moved in for a lethal strike without a second thought.

(Have you really given up on me, Rugandia…?!)

As Klock ground his teeth, Rugandia began to melt into the shadows beneath her feet. She used Submerging Advance to vanish into the floor.

With the sun down, the battlefield was a patchwork of darkness; she could emerge from any angle at any time.

”Well, now that Rug-Rug is here, I guess the reinforcements are finally in position,” Viola said.

 ”—!!”

The Vampire army was making its move.

”I’ll leave Klock Livorno to Rug-Rug. I think Vio-Vio is gonna head over and finish the rest of this personally!”

Things were going south fast. If a fresh wave of troops hit them now, they were finished. They were already struggling against Viola; adding Rugandia and the maid corps to the mix meant the math for survival just hit zero.

”What, you think you’ve got some secret ace up your sleeve?” Klock spat.

”An ace? I mean, I have one, but it’s not really… well, wait.” Viola tapped her chin, then clapped her hands together. “Actually, let’s go with that!”

Viola scanned the area. Her eyes landed on a fresh corpse sprawled across the battlements. She focused her Vampiric Cursed Eye on the remains.

The body began to bulge and throb. Suddenly, the flesh ruptured, and the blood within sprayed outward, coalescing into a floating sphere in mid-air. It drained the corpse until the skin was nothing but a shriveled husk, and then the blood began to knit itself into a human shape.

”…You’ve got to be kidding me…” Klock muttered.

A perfect blood-sculpture of Viola stood before them.

 ”Seriously??”

”Yeah! To be honest, whenever I used clones before, I had to stay tucked in bed and focus all my attention on them. But Vio-Vio is a total genius, so I finally figured out how to pilot both at the same time!”

 ”Funyaa?!”

 ”You’re joking, right…?”

Two Violas. It was a literal nightmare. They knew she could duplicate herself, but the idea of her controlling the original and the clone simultaneously was a game-changer. This wasn’t a simple Magic Golem; it was a Stellar Skill, operating on a completely different level of complexity.

”Nobody in history is that coordinated, you freak. Fine, you get a ten out of ten. I’ll send your trophy to your house later,” Klock barked.

”Oh, stop trying to talk your way out of this! We’re in the middle of a deathmatch!”

The real battle against the twin Violas and Rugandia began in earnest.

 ”Ah!!”

Flavia screamed. Everyone turned to see Rugandia emerging from the shadows to grab Flavia’s ankle. Before anyone could intervene, Rugandia’s dagger plunged through Flavia’s leg.

 ”Agh—!!”

Flavia was a pure glass cannon—all magic, zero physical defense. She was even frailer than Klock, and she didn’t have the strength to shake off Rugandia’s iron grip.

 ”Damn it—!”

Klock started to lunge toward her, but a shadow cut him off.

”Nope! Denied! If Rug-Rug is handling that side, then Klock, you’re stuck with the real Vio-Vio!”

”Like hell I am! Send the clone after me, you brat!”

The real Viola was the one dancing in front of him. She clearly hadn’t forgotten that Klock had managed to pop one of her clones before. He didn’t even have the breath left to give her a sarcastic “gold star” for learning her lesson.

”Ugh, where’s your fighting spirit?! If you want Vio-Vio on your team so bad, shouldn’t you be acting all cool and saying ‘Bring it on’ or something?!”

”Shut up, you stupid tiny bat-freak! Hold back and send the clone, dammit!”

Klock’s filter always disintegrated when he was backed into a corner.

”I’m not holding back a single inch, you piece of trash!” Viola screamed, a vein popping in her forehead.

 ”Nyaa!!”

Meina saw the opening and pounced while Viola was distracted by the shouting match. The Viola clone was busy tying up Primlena, so Meina tried to back Klock up, but her claws only met empty air.

”Aww, Min-Min. Are you getting desperate because you can see the ‘Game Over’ screen? Just so you know, when you lose, you’re coming home to live with Vio-Vio! I can’t wait to spend every day squeezing that fluffy tail and burying my face in those ears! I’ve always wanted a pet, and I’m going to spoil you rotten!”

”Nyaaaaa?! Gross, gross, gross!! Get away from me!!”

Meina’s fur stood on end as she recoiled in pure terror. The Golden Cat-girl hissed, baring her fangs at the Vampire Princess, who was creeping toward her with very “hands-on” intentions.

* * *

 ”This is not looking good.”

Across the battlefield, Fit drew her bowstring, though she had no arrows left.

She released a shot of pure force that acted like an invisible bolt, severing the heads of the monsters swarming below.

Originally, it should have been fired along with a real arrow to become two, but she had already used up every actual arrow she had.

”The monsters are climbing up! Push them off with spears!” Ada barked, her voice strained from command.

The soldiers scrambled to the edge of the battlements while others kept their eyes glued to the sky, watching for the Vampire flight-suits. Looking up, it was Vampires; looking down, it was a sea of monsters. The Brigante Troop was fighting a war on two fronts, and they were losing.

”Dammit, what are we supposed to do about this?!”

Ada swung her halberd, pulverizing a Vampire that had tried to swoop down on her.

She followed through with a backswing that cleaved another in two, showing the kind of peerless strength that had made her a legend.

She stole a glance toward the eastern edge of the north wall where Klock’s team was, but all she could do was grit her teeth.

”I can’t make out the details, but they’re locked in a fight with someone on a completely different level,” Fit said, her eyes narrowed.

Like Ada, she could sense the massive pressure coming from that area. She wasn’t even in a position to give orders anymore; she was just trying to keep the monsters from overrunning their position.

”That has to be their leader, but nobody told me she was a god-tier threat. If they don’t take her down soon, this whole line is going to collapse.”

They were barely holding on by their fingernails. The idea of sending reinforcements to help Klock was a fantasy. They were at their breaking point.

Huge monsters—snakes and giant centipedes—were starting to reach the top of the wall. Once the mid-sized ones got a foothold, it was over. The soldiers were physically exhausted, their movements sluggish and heavy. The end was coming, and it wouldn’t wait for sunrise.

 ”No…” Fit’s voice went cold.

 ”What is it?”

”…A new army is coming from the east too.”

 ”—!!”

The Monster army attacking from the north. The Vampire army coming from overhead. And—it seemed the enemy intended to thoroughly crush the Human army. They had no intention of letting a single person return alive.

A massive black shadow was surging across the eastern plains from the Nichirin Road like a tidal wave of ink.

Ada and Fit both felt the same chilling realization: It was over.

* * *

 ”Klock!!”

Primlena’s scream made everyone jump. Even Viola, who had been mid-lunge, flapped her wings to gain distance. A low, guttural growl vibrated through the stone beneath them, and Klock swung his blade purely on instinct.

Monsters were finally pouring over the battlements. The wall was spread too thin, and the beasts were clambering up through the gaps in the defense.

Klock cut down the first few, but Rugandia and Viola had already taken to the air, looking down at the chaos with cold, predatory eyes.

Before anyone realized it, monsters began appearing one after another atop the castle walls.

(Crap. This is bad. This is really, really bad. This isn’t the time to be worrying about Viola anymore. At this rate, we’re all going to be wiped out…!!)

It was no longer the time to be facing off against those girls. Klock turned around, showing his back. He tried to leave the area to get down to the soldiers, but Viola landed right in his path.

Klock gnashed his teeth. Suddenly noticing something, he looked behind him. Primlena was on her knees. Flavia was facing off against a clone while blood flowed from her leg, and Meina, breathing raggedly, was exhausted and unable to move.

 (We lost.)

Kispe had fallen before Cianie before, without even a fight. Perhaps that experience hadn’t been a good thing.

It might have been the factor that made Klock think they could somehow manage even if the opponent was an Apostle.

He had misjudged Viola’s power. The fact that they had been able to easily make her submit was only thanks to Cianie’s power. He should have taken the existence of Viola more seriously.

”It’s already the end, isn’t it? But I’ll at least recognize your hard work. You guys are—”

 ”KLOOOOCK!!!!”

A shouting voice rang out, drowning out Viola’s voice. Klock turned around instinctively. There were monsters at the end of his line of sight.

Being swarmed by three beasts was Boit. Gonmi was also beside him. Raising a boisterous voice, they sought help from Klock in the middle of his battle.

In a hurry, Klock sent a flying slash. He leaped three times toward the monsters and decapitated all of them. When he looked back, his eyes met Viola’s. She had been watching the scene without interfering.

”Want me to save them?” Viola asked.

Was that pity floating on her face?

 ”…Are you serious??” Klock said.

”Of course. Since VioVio is kind, you know, it’s not too late even now. If you are comrades, I’ll save you,” Viola replied.

Saying so, she curled back her lips with her fingers and showed her fangs.

 ”Ugh…!!” Klock groaned.

If he were to accept that Infiltration Procedure from those fangs… that was the condition for sparing their lives.

”I said it before, but I recognize you, Klock. You worked super hard. Being shown such a struggle really touches my heart. That’s why you should admit it soon, too. That this time, it’s VioVio’s win,” Viola said.

”It’s not that simple,” Klock said.

If he could do that, he wouldn’t be suffering. He thought that, but he had only replied that way as a reflex. The destruction was pressing before his eyes. Just as Kispe had done before in order to save his comrades, wasn’t it now Klock’s turn to declare surrender?

 ”Guh…!!” Klock cried out.

Viola flew in at super speed. Klock couldn’t even make it in time to react. Viola got inside his guard, and he was pulled down to the ground and pinned under her.

”Actually, I’ve never bitten a man with my own body before. Because VioVio hates men. You can be proud of being the very first one,” Viola said.

”Heh, why do you hate men?” Klock asked.

This wasn’t the time to be asking such a thing, but anything was fine if it could buy time. If Flavia, Meina, or even Primlena would just kick this girl off of him—

”Well, you see, the Nobility of the Moon Court¹⁰ are nothing but creeps. Especially since there are so many with interests in small children or young girls. Since VioVio was a brat when I was taken to the Moon Court, I was looked at with lecherous eyes by the Nobility. Because of that, I got a complex that men are gross,” Viola said.

”…Well, if you get r*ped constantly, you’re bound to hate them,” Klock said.

”…That’s what everyone thinks, right?? It’s a bit hard to say, but VioVio actually doesn’t have those experiences. Because I became an Apostle immediately after arriving at the Moon Court. I became stronger than those guys. So, in the beginning, I just slaughtered every man who tried to attack me,” Viola said.

 ”…Eh??” Klock muttered.

The daughters of Sand were taken away as s*x slaves. The story was supposed to be that they were having a terrible time in the Moon Court. Don’t tell me Viola—

”You… did you perhaps become an Apostle before you became a Vampire??” Klock asked.

”That’s right. VioVio becoming a Vampire was the result of a deal after that. I said, ‘release RugRug and the others who were made into slaves.’ By placing them as VioVio’s subordinates, I freed everyone,” Viola said.

”It’s a secret, though,” Viola added.

Klock was stunned. Had Kispe ever mentioned this? Was such a thing even possible? No, it wasn’t that it was impossible. There was no rule saying an Apostle from another world had to be a specific race.

”In that way, I accepted the Infiltration Procedure for them. Well, I was kept imprisoned the whole time until that happened, so it was quite long. Apparently, VioVio becoming an Apostle was originally quite a big problem. Even after I became a Dhampir¹¹, I wasn’t treated very well,” Viola said.

Come to think of it, there was a story that the Nobility didn’t like the fact that Viola had become an Apostle.

It was because a human who had been brought back as a s*x slave had become an Apostle.

That’s why the Nobility were angry.

Because it wasn’t a resident of the Moon Court, but a mere human slave who was chosen as an Apostle.

Was treating Viola as Nobility just a matter of appearances for them? The Moon Court is a world of Vampires.

If it were known that a human was chosen as the Apostle of that Moon Court, it would be a disaster.

People might even say that humans are the ones fit to be rulers.

The Nobility side must have hidden this story with their lives.

Even Kispe probably didn’t know about this.

”Well, that’s how it is. It’s enough already, right? Are you prepared?” Viola asked.

”Wait, wait, I’m not prepared at all. Look, didn’t you say I could choose the woman I like to bite me?? Uh—let’s go with Linaria,” Klock said.

If he had to say who he liked best among them, he thought it was probably around Rodney. Because she had the biggest breasts.

In the first place, he felt that Vampires only had girls with somewhat small breasts, so he felt like he wouldn’t like them just based on being a Vampire.

”Rejected. I’m telling you, time is up,” Viola said.

Saying so, Viola firmly grabbed the nape of Klock’s neck.

 ”Wa-Wait—” Klock stammered.

”…Sorry. I won’t make it hurt,” Viola said.

Viola hugged Klock tightly. Like a woman spoiling a man, or like protecting a baby. Then, as her breath brushed his skin, her fangs were set against his neck.

 THWACK!!!!

 ”…Ah?” Klock muttered.

The pain that was supposed to attack him wasn’t there. On the contrary, even the heat of the embrace vanished, and a wind swept past. Looking up, Klock saw Viola had been blown away with incredible force.

Viola, who had gone rolling with tremendous momentum, almost fell from the castle wall. She barely managed to grab on and regain her posture.

”That really hurt!! To kick someone in the face is cru—” Viola started to shout.

Klock’s field of vision was blocked. Someone had landed right in front of him.

”Umu, was I safe!! It seems I made it just in the nick of time. Honestly, it would be too much to look at if my precious mate were turned into a Vampire!!” a voice said.

 ”……Eh?? Who??” Klock asked.

Hair with black mixed into white mesh was swaying. Wagging a fluffy tail, she stood boldly with her arms crossed over her petite frame. A tail protruded from her short pants. Klock, who saw that familiar back view, widened his eyes.

Such a thing was impossible. She couldn’t be here. However, looking at her face as she turned around, he had no choice but to admit it was reality.

”Klock!! I heard of your heroic deeds in Dayrid!! I wished to join the battlefield that you run through in the Hero’s stead. For those proud military achievements, good work!!” she said.

A high-pitched voice echoed nearby. Coming close to him, a scent check began. She started smelling the stunned man’s neck and chest. As soon as she showed those nostalgic gestures, she stood up.

”I shall hear the heroic tales another day. For now, you may leave this place to me, your mate!!” she declared.

 ”…Y-You are…!!” Klock gasped.

Klock was agape, and Viola blinked her eyes in shock. Standing between them and facing Viola, the newcomer boldly announced her name.

”My name is Rosetta Beledia. Proud King of the Wolfkin, and a warrior of the Beast Country Il Rasiella¹²!! I have come as the representative of Emperor of the Hundred Beasts Rose Elna!! We of the Beast Country shall assist the humans and the Hero, and we will destroy you of the Demon Lord’s Army!!”

 ”Whaaaaaat—?! R-Rosetta!?” Klock yelled.

The wolf-girl wore a fearless smile. She feared nothing from those fangs. The little tyrant he had once met was there. The jagged-toothed Wolf Princess stood in the way of the jagged-toothed Vampire Princess.

* * *

”Wait a minute. Something is strange,” Fit said.

”Strange?? What is—” Ada started to ask.

Fit leaned out from the ramparts. Following her, Ada peeked out, and her eyes widened at the unexpected sight.

An army had arrived from the east. What they thought was a new reinforcement for the monster army was fluttering a flag. Monsters don’t carry flags. A flag is something held by people and waved by human hands.

The new army was attacking the monster army. The monster army, struck in the flank, suffered a total collapse and began to retreat. It was a terrifying charge. The army that came from the Nichirin Road¹³ attacked with the force of a breaking bamboo. The beasts climbing the castle walls were gone in an instant. Right before Sanrid, a fierce field battle had begun.

”Oi, oi, are you serious. The monster army is being attacked!!” someone shouted.

”No way, is this… reinforcements??” another asked.

Roars like beasts echoed throughout the area. However, those did not belong to monsters. Those who stood on human legs like beasts, holding weapons, lining up, and howling all at once. The patterns on the fluttering flags were fangs, claws, and—a cat.

As soon as they began the attack, they started overrunning the monsters with overwhelming strength. And for good reason. They were the world’s strongest warriors when it came to hunting monsters. Those who had arrived were the warriors of the beast country, boasted by the world’s largest nation.

 ”I-It’s the Beast Country Army!!!!”
