Volume 2 Chapter 10 Reference Room: Magic
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Since we have entered the Student Life arc and the amount of information regarding magic has increased, I have summarized the sorcery of this world.
Reading this is not strictly mandatory to understand the story.
I would be happy if you could simply use this to get a feel for how things work.
Furthermore, please be aware that there may be revisions or corrections to this information at a later date.

’The Magical Systems of This World’
(Partially modified from Chapter 1, Episode 15)
===
’Classifications of Magic’
’Complex-type¹:’
A magic system that handles polymer-state Mana.
Mana polymers are either synthesized within the body or obtained through one’s diet.
’Biological-system:’
Magic performed on living organisms using polymer Mana.
’Medical-system:’
Includes spells like Heal.
In the Royal Capital, there is a school specifically for training Medical Mages.
’Agricultural-system:’
Devised by the Fourth Sage, Count Sabaski.
Lectures on this subject are held at the Magic Academy.
’Material-system:’
Magic performed on physical objects using polymer Mana.
’Librarian-system:’
Used for tasks such as creating official registration documents.
One’s Mana aptitude is not an issue even if it is in the lower-middle range.
To compensate for the depletion of polymer Mana, there are vendors who breed and sell edible Magic Crickets and Red Magic Frogs.
’Creation-system:’
The manufacturing of Magic Tools.
This field is reportedly advancing on the eastern coast of the continent.
’Simple-type²:’
A magic system that utilizes only Dimer-state Mana.
’Synchronization-system:’
Does this synchronize with living organisms?
The practice of controlling Golems is also referred to as the Puppetry-system.
Telepathy and Mind Reading are not officially treated as formal “systems” on the surface.
’Resonance-system:’
Does this use only Dimers on materials?
This is a specialty of the Dwarves.
There is a specialized university in the Dwarf Kingdom on the Southern Continent.
Within the Turkic Empire, this is classified under Alchemy.
’Mineral Exploration:’
At the advanced level, one can conduct subterranean surveys from the surface.
’Fireball:’
Used in blacksmithing and similar crafts, though it also includes high-output thermal attacks.
(Note: According to the way Granny Ferris speaks, there may be various other systems in existence.)
===
’Mana Handling Levels’
===
’Level 0 / Non-capable:’
Incapable of manipulating Mana.
’Level 1 / Low-ability User:’
Capable of providing minor assistance in daily life.
Can handle a small amount of Mana.
Examples include being able to ignite a flame, charging Mana into a small piece of Amber, or providing simple treatment for minor ailments like stiff shoulders.
’Level 2 / Diverse-ability User:’
Entry-level for professional practitioners.
The passing grade for the Magic School.
Can handle a fixed volume of Mana or handle Trimer-state Mana and above.
Examples include being able to melt metals like iron (Blacksmiths, Tinkers) or being able to treat physical wounds (Qualifies for the Medical Mage entrance exam).
Being able to perform Mana-fication³ to some extent.
Being able to create items like Magic Ink (Qualifies for the Magic Scribe exam).
Being able to use Telepathy.
Being able to operate construction Golems via a wired connection.
’Level 3 / High-ability User:’
Mid-tier professional level.
Practitioners possess either Level 2 handling abilities with specialized knowledge or naturally higher output.
Examples include mastering Magic Jurisprudence (Qualifies for the Advanced Magic Scribe exam; can carve or erase Slave Crests).
Being able to melt Magic Ore to produce Magic Iron (Qualifies for Guild Registration as a Magic Engineer).
Being able to treat major injuries and diagnose/treat infectious diseases (Qualifies for the Advanced Medical Mage exam).
Being able to synchronize with a monster’s nervous system to operate Golems remotely.
Being able to read a target’s consciousness through skin contact.
’Level 4 / Great-ability User:’
Elite professional level.
The passing grade for the Mage Academy.
Can handle both Simple-type and Complex-type Mana at a Level 2 volume or higher.
Possesses specialized knowledge and can handle Mana of Level 3 or higher.
Examples include being able to compress Mana without generating heat.
Being able to create Luminous Magic Iron⁴.
Being able to adjust output in high-temperature ranges (Extracting various metals as pure elements from raw ore).
Being able to manipulate Trimer-state Mana and above at a high level.
Being able to heal major injuries like bone fractures or internal organ damage.
Being able to highly synchronize with monster nerves to operate Combat Golems.
’Level 5 / Super-ability User:’
A title-like rank awarded to those who have made monumental achievements in their respective fields.
It absolutely does not mean the person can take on an entire army single-handedly, fire a railgun, or manipulate the minds of a mass of people.
Currently, only one person holds this rank: the Fourth Sage.

’Mana Classifications’
===
’Monomer:’
Has not appeared yet, but will become important later.
’Dimer⁵:’
The most common type.
Similar to how hydrogen or oxygen exist as diatomic molecules.
’Polymer:’
A type where three or more Mana units are bonded together.
These can only be synthesized within a living body.
The more units there are, the higher the energy density.
’Trimer⁶:’
Linear or Triangular.
The triangular structure is stable and used in the Librarian-system.
’Tetramer⁷:’
Linear, Y-shaped, Tetrahedron, Square, or “Triangle with a string.”
The Tetrahedron has the highest stability.
’Pentamer⁸:’
Square Pyramid, Pentagon, “Square with a string,” “Triangle with two strings,” or “Triangle with one string.”
The flat structures (Triangle, Square, Y-shape, Triangle-with-string) are used in surgical Medical-systems.
Linear structures (Trimer/Tetramer) are primarily used in internal medicine for treating infectious diseases.
===
’Mana-Charging Amber’
===
Amber possessing a “navel.”
Even after being charged, Mana will leak out if they are left sitting.
They will crack if overcharged and have a finite lifespan.
They are frequently harvested along the northern coastline of Schweilitz.
’Small:’
Roughly the size of a D-battery.
One unit costs 1 Silver Coin (10,000 yen).
Charging three units costs 1 Silver Coin (1,000 yen).
Can power a Magic Lamp (Magic Iron Sand type) for 6 hours, or Luminous Magic Iron for 3 hours.
Granny Ferris used to charge 1 Silver Coin for two units.
’Medium:’
Roughly the size of a 200ml milk bottle.
One unit costs 5 Silver Coins (50,000 yen).
Charging one unit costs 1 Silver Coin (1,000 yen).
Powers ship lights (Luminous Magic Iron) or a noble’s banquet hall lighting for 10 hours.
’Large:’
Roughly the size of a 2L plastic bottle.
One unit costs 2 Gold Coins and 5 Silver Coins (250,000 yen).
Charging one unit costs 5 Silver Coins (1,000 yen).
Powers a training Golem (humanoid, life-sized) for 30 minutes.
’Extra Large:’
Three times the size of a “Large” unit.
One unit costs 10 Gold Coins (1,000,000 yen).
Charging one unit costs 1 Silver Coin (10,000 yen).
Powers a construction Golem for 15 minutes at max output, or 30 minutes normally.
’Ultra Extra Large:’
About four times the size of “Extra Large.”
One unit costs 50 Gold Coins (5,000,000 yen).
Charging one unit costs 5 Silver Coins (50,000 yen).
Used by the 101st Golem Battalion for Large Combat Golems.
A pair of these provides approximately 15 minutes of operation.

Summary:
Systematizing the magical infrastructure before the academy arc. Distinguishing between simple dimer usage and complex polymer synthesis. Detailing the economic cost of mana storage units. Leaving the mysterious potential of the Monomer as an active threat to the status quo
—
Trivia:
- The Librarian-system works for those with low mana, implying it is the most common clerical job
- Magic Crickets are a viable food source for replenishing mana
- The Turkic Empire integrates magic into alchemy differently than the Dwarf kingdom
—
Character Insight:
The author establishes that even a ‘Level 5’ is grounded by physical laws, such as not being able to fire a railgun, contrasting with typical overpowered tropes.

Glossary:
Notes:
• Sabaski – Count Sabaski, the Fourth Sage, is a tall, silver‑haired noble famed for creating the world’s Agricultural‑system magic. He lectures at the Magic Academy, while his once‑great house, scarred by floods and epidemics along the Western Front, now relies on his guidance.
• Al – Alberto (Al), a massive red‑haired man recently wed to Mary, lives near the Dish Basin. He’s a companion of Hans, helping intimidate and rally elders as a villager and leader.
• Ferris – Granny Ferris, an ageless elf appearing as a woman in her early thirties, bears the revered Ferris name—lineage famed for medicine and golem-making—and once served as the first Commander of the Golem Battalion in the Kingdom of Schuberitz Army. She runs the village inn, wears provocative black one-piece dresses, plays the transverse flute, and speaks with blunt candor. A close associate of the Second Sage, she claims to know Larry’s grandfather and is the elderly woman Martin hopes to marry. Renowned for her arcane insights, she once charged silver coins for mana-replenishment services, blending ancient wisdom, masterful craftsmanship, and unyielding charm.
