Volume 2 Chapter 14 Goblin Settlement

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I was able to finalize a rental contract for a large mansion through the Merchant Guild.

The mansion had built-in furniture, but I needed to buy various daily necessities to actually live there.

I left those errands to Nier and decided to focus on hunting monsters.

My first hunt yielded three Goblins.

Just Goblins, yet Goblins nonetheless. For me, it was a solid start.

* * *

 The next day.

I woke up to Nier giving me a b**job.

As I had instructed, she was giving a b**job while masturbating again today.

I had forbidden her from reaching orgasm.

We would soon move to the mansion.

 I would leave her frustrated.

While eating the breakfast Nier had made, I checked the shopping progress.

It seemed she was steadily gathering everything.

I handed her an additional Gold Coin.

I asked about the area around Grimm, but it seemed she had no sense of the land.

She had only been brought to Grimm as a slave.

It was no wonder she didn’t know.

I asked if she knew anything else.

This town called Grimm was an independent autonomous city—a city-state.

Several such autonomous cities formed a network of city-states.

There were several great nations in this world.

One was Nier’s homeland, the nation of Jipan.

Selene, a city-state adjacent to the east of Grimm.

Ermana, a city within Selene, lay next to Jipan on the east side.

Other nations included the Holy Arcadia Empire, which held the largest territory.

The Sheena nation lay adjacent to the city-state group.

And the religious Theocracy family—the Holy Papal State—wielded wide influence across the continent.

No maps existed, so I had little sense of each country’s relative location.

Nier’s knowledge was also secondhand. The concept of a continent hadn’t even existed for her.

The Magic Forest appeared untouched by any nation.

Far to the south, there was apparently a Deep Forest where monsters roamed freely.

The threat of monsters in this world was serious.

 Human living areas were limited.

”I’ll go hunting monsters today too.”

”Please be careful… Goshujin-sama,” Nier said.

After finishing a late breakfast, I set out to hunt monsters again.

 The Square’s market was closed.

It seemed it wasn’t open every day.

I walked along the town road through the North Gate and reached the Magic Forest.

I could see logging work being done far off again today.

I walked a little into the forest to a place out of sight and activated Fly.

I stood on a rock slab made with Magic, lifting it about two meters high.

I gripped the rock I had created and fixed my body to avoid falling.

Moving through the forest, I slid through the air at bicycle-level speed.

Soon, I saw an animal about fifty meters ahead.

I silently approached it while flying.

(It doesn’t look like a monster. Maybe a boar?)

When I got about twenty meters away, the prey ran.

But if I chased while flying, I could catch up easily.

 ”Ice Bullet!”

I shot a small Ice Bullet into the back of its head.

The prey collapsed, losing strength, and slid across the ground.

I landed and checked the prey.

It looked like a boar, but to be sure, I cut open the heart with a knife.

”No Magic Stone in the heart. It really was a boar. Normal animals exist in the Magic Forest too.”

The boar was about the size of a large dog.

I stored it in an interdimensional space.

I activated Fly again, increasing altitude.

 ”Whoa! That was close!”

I felt something might hit my head and twisted my body.

Looking up, a giant spider, about a meter long, hung from a tree branch on a thread, wriggling its legs.

 ”Ugh! Wind Cutter!”

I immediately sent multiple wind blades at the giant spider, slicing it into pieces that fell to the ground.

 I landed and approached cautiously.

 ”Ugh… Seriously… That’s disgusting.”

Even small spiders were repulsive, and now this massive spider had been shredded, its innards splattered everywhere.

Suppressing my disgust, I used a nearby branch to search and found a Magic Stone.

So the giant spider was indeed a monster.

The Magic Stone was about one centimeter in diameter, roughly Goblin-sized.

”So there are monsters above as well.

 I need to be careful.”

I activated Fly again and continued exploring, keeping watch for monsters overhead.

After a while, I spotted a white rabbit.

It had about twenty-centimeter horns and red eyes.

It was about the size of a medium dog.

 ”Pii! Piii!”

As soon as it noticed me, it hopped quickly toward me.

Because of its size, it approached faster than expected.

I let it come close enough and cut off the Horn Rabbit’s head with Wind Cutter.

”So this is a Horn Rabbit. Its fur is fluffy. Might sell well. Maybe I’ll bring it back as is.”

Continuing to explore the shallow forest, I managed to take down several Horn Rabbits.

Even though I was flying, and attacks shouldn’t reach them, none ran away and all approached me.

Do monsters naturally attack humans when seen?

It was easier to take them down this way, so it worked in my favor.

I also saw a deer-like animal, but it noticed me and escaped before I approached.

The boar had done the same.

Animals flee, making hunting harder. Traps might help.

After some work, I sat on a branch for a short rest.

After the break, I decided to go deeper into the forest.

After a while, I heard Goblin voices.

 ”Gii gii,” they squealed.

Several Goblins walked across from right to left at a distance.

They were weak, so there was no need to hide and observe.

 ”Fire Arrow!”

I shot a flaming arrow at a Goblin in sight while flying closer.

The arrow hit, and the Goblin’s head exploded.

 The remaining Goblins squealed.

”Run, Ru!” I thought I heard one say and stopped.

One especially large Goblin was about the height of a human adult male.

As it ran, I shot an Ice Bullet from behind.

 ”Guaa!”

The large Goblin screamed and rolled after its right arm was shot through.

I checked it and finished off the other Goblins with Ice Bullets first.

After that, I spoke to the remaining one.

”Hey, Goblin. Do you understand my words?”

 ”Guuu…”

 ”Answer me! Wind Cutter!”

I cut off its right wrist while it held its left elbow.

 ”Gooo! Stop! I un…der…stand!”

 ”Oh! You can understand!”

 ”Guuu… I un…derstand…”

For some reason, I could talk to the Goblin.

 Intelligent monsters could speak.

Its mouth movements didn’t match the words I heard.

 It seemed automatically translated.

 ”Take me to your comrades.”

 ”Un…der…stood…”

”Good. Then I’ll heal your hand. Extra Heal.”

The cut glowed faintly, and new skin formed.

The lost left forearm and right wrist would not be restored.

”Now you can walk. Are you a Goblin?”

 ”Uu… Hob, Hob.”

 ”What? Hob? A Hob Goblin?”

 ”Y-Yes.”

 Hob Goblin was its species.

It didn’t have a personal name.

It could speak haltingly and slowly.

It seemed slightly more intelligent than a normal Goblin, perhaps toddler-level.

 It cowered completely in fear.

A Hob Goblin missing both hands was nothing to fear.

I activated interdimensional Magic and quickly collected hearts from the dead Goblins.

”Here, walk. Take me to your comrades.”

 ”I…understand.”

I poked it from behind with a tree branch to make it walk.

It headed straight toward the destination without hesitation.

Along the way, I crossed the shallow part of Melin River and walked through the forest on the opposite side.

After a long while, I finally arrived at the destination.

 ”Ah, there.”

 ”All right. Good work.”

Saying that, I cut off the Hobgoblin’s head with Wind Cutter and retrieved its heart.

I moved closer to the Goblins while flying about five meters above the ground.

From above, I saw a Goblin village in a roughly thirty-meter-diameter clearing, created by felled trees.

Near the center of the village lay something resembling an animal carcass.

 It was probably food.

Around it were about twenty Goblins, some Hobgoblins mixed in.

Some were sitting, some standing; some unarmed, some holding weapons.

Some carried wooden sticks, axes, or spears with stones attached.

At the edge, small huts made from stacked branches were visible.

This was within range for Fire Arrow.

I wanted to reduce their numbers from as far away as possible.

 (Ice Shield… Fire Arrow)

I created a thick slab of ice diagonally below in front of me and produced ten flaming arrows across the ice.

I fired them at the Goblins in sight, shifting my gaze to each next target.

The Goblins struck were blown away one by one.

The forest echoed with loud explosions.

 The Goblins began squealing.

Some fell from the blast, some froze in place, some ran in panic, and some rushed toward me.

They were confused by the sudden attack from above.

I continued firing flaming arrows from the air.

 The Goblins fell helplessly.

 Within a minute, nothing moved.

 Confirming that, I landed.

I deployed a large ice shield to defend ahead and cautiously moved toward the center of the village.

Most Goblins had been struck in the head and were headless corpses.

Those hit on the torso or shoulders, still alive, were finished off with Ice Bullet.

The village center reeked of burning flesh.

I looked around, confirming no survivors.

Finally, there was a small hut. With no door and complete darkness, I couldn’t see inside from the outside.

I approached and used Fireball to illuminate the interior.

 ”Squeak… squeak.”

 In a corner was a pregnant-looking Goblin.

I immediately cut off its head with Wind Cutter.

In the middle of the hut lay a figure on its back—it appeared to be a human girl.

I approached and illuminated her body with the fireball.

 ”…It’s cruel.”

 She looked like a teenager.

Completely naked, her skin was white but dirtied.

She stared blankly at the ceiling.

Her face was covered in bruises, and her hands and feet bore healed tendon-cut scars.

She must have been continuously assaulted and beaten here.

I stood and retrieved Goblin hearts using interdimensional magic.

As I turned to leave, a voice called out.

 ”Help… me.”

 ”…Impossible. I can’t save you.”

The girl looked at me, pleading.

Her limbs were severed at the tendons; she couldn’t move.

With hands and feet like these, she was below even a slave.

 She probably couldn’t survive.

 ”Help… me.”

I couldn’t take her in or raise her, nor did I intend to.

I wasn’t human from this world.

I hadn’t existed here originally, and I would never have met her otherwise.

I had only coincidentally witnessed her fate.

 That was all.

I stayed silent, turned on my heel, and left the hut.

I collected hearts from the Goblin corpses.

 They wore tanned fur skins.

Goblins had males and females; the pregnant one had been female.

Activating fly, I left the village.

On the way back, I stopped at the riverbank to extract Magic Stones from the collected monster hearts.

Passing through the Magic Forest, I proceeded on foot toward Grimm.

Before reaching the town, I removed a boar and Horn Rabbits from the interdimensional space.

I placed them in a large sack and carried it on my back.

Arriving at the town, I went straight to the Adventurer’s Guild buyback office.

I spread the prey and Magic Stones on the table and asked Balan to appraise them.

”Whoa. That’s impressive. A lot of them.”

 ”Yeah. Appraise it.”

 ”All right. Wait a moment.”

I passed time while sitting in a chair, staring absentmindedly at the guild yard.

 ”Thanks for waiting, Ryuichi. Done.

In total: 4 Gold Coins, 9 Silver Coins, 1 Copper Coin.”

 ”That’s decent. What’s the breakdown?”

”The boar is 5 Silver Coins, no Magic Stones included—that’s just meat value.

Four Horn Rabbits: 2 Silver Coins, 8 Copper Coins.

Magic Stones: thirty-one from Goblin-class, 31 Silver Coins; three slightly larger stones, 6 Silver Coins.”

 ”Got it. Then purchase them.”

”All right. Here’s the receipt. Take it.”

I took it and exchanged it at reception.

Including bounty, I ended up with 5 Gold Coins and 1 Copper Coin.

Returning to the inn, Nier had prepared dinner and was waiting.

I took off my blood-stained clothes and asked Nier to wash them.

 I also removed her clothes.

After the meal, it was time for a bath and teeth brushing.

She wiped my body and head.

After a deep kiss before sleep, I lay back with her as an arm pillow.

Nier placed her right hand on my chest, pressing close.

 ”Goshujin-sama, did something happen?”

 ”…Why do you ask?”

 ”Because… you seemed down.”

”…I saw the girl abducted at the Goblin village.”

 ”What happened to her?”

 ”I left her there.”

 ”I see…”

 ”Do you despise me?”

 ”No… it couldn’t be helped.”

 ”…I understand.”

 ”Good night… Goshujin-sama.”

I pulled her close by the shoulder and fell asleep.

• Grimm – The name of a large settlement and community located near the Forest of Magic. Grimm is a walled city featuring a bustling marketplace and diverse population, though it suffers from severe lack of sanitation and a legalized slave trade.

• Hob – A species of Goblin with higher intelligence than ordinary Goblins. Speaks in halting words and shows fear toward the protagonist. Both hands were missing in the observed individual.

• Hobgoblin – Hobgoblins are a sub-type of Goblins present in the village. They are similarly armed and targeted by Ryuichi during his attack.

• Balan – A burly, terrifying‑faced man in a blood‑stained apron works the Adventurer’s Guild appraisal counter. He expertly butchers monsters, appraises materials, and offers kind advice to novices, maintaining a professional yet casual rapport with regulars like Ryuichi.

• Ryuichi – Forty‑year‑old Japanese adventurer, known as Poison Snake, sports a beard and a weary, pragmatic demeanor. He hides his immense magical power — fire, ice, wind, super‑human strength and an Item Box — from nobles. He hunts monsters in the Magic Forest for profit, flies, trades with Goblins and humans, and makes cold‑blooded ethical choices.
