Volume 9 Chapter 26 Selfishness
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Previous Summary: I gave a lap pillow to the Lovers. I was curious about Clarissa-san’s behavior, as if she wanted to say something. Clarissa: a cute older sister.

Today’s research topic was sweets. Normally, I only occasionally peeked into candy shops in town, which had been enough, but now I needed to expand the variety. I expected Vera-san to come within a month, yet she arrived in less than three days. Perhaps she was concerned about visiting again so soon.
”Was I a bother?” she asked.
”Not at all, and you’re welcome,” I replied, and she looked satisfied. I was surprised, but it wasn’t inconvenient, and I like seeing beautiful women. Since she is connected to Martina-sama, I couldn’t dismiss her. So, like last time, I treated Vera-san with her favorite sweets.
Apparently, the ones I gave her as souvenirs last time didn’t reach Martina-sama. Vera-san said, “Martina-sama told me I could eat everything,” and since my Insight Skills didn’t react, it wasn’t a lie. Still, considering her passion for sweets, she might have begged Martina-sama. Her cool expression revealed nothing, though she’s completely uncool when it comes to sweets…
As closing time approached, I became curious about what Clarissa-san wanted to say. Had something happened since we last met? I heard she was present at the face-to-face with Regina-san, but nothing noteworthy occurred, as far as I knew. Was she seeking help for something unrelated? Hmm, truly a mystery. It can’t be because she hasn’t been held among adult lovers… (Right?) What if she asked for shaving play? Well, I would do it without hesitation. Still, I wrestled with whether that was the right first move with innocent Clarissa-san. I’d feel bad if she became too perverted.
”Thank you for waiting, Daisuke-san,” she said.
”Oh, no,” I replied.
As I was lost in thought, Clarissa-san spoke to me. Curiously, she looked dejected compared to before. What could this be about?
”Um, I’m sorry about earlier,” she said.
”No, it’s fine… but you wanted to say something to me, right?” I asked.
”…Yes, that’s right,” she answered hesitantly.
She seemed to struggle, but she wasn’t embarrassed. That meant it wasn’t something like, “If I don’t get held soon, other Lovers will outdo me!”—a relief, though slightly disappointing.
”Well, at the meeting the other day… at the face-to-face with Regina-san, I heard that you gave her a Rejuvenation Potion…” she said.
”Huh? Ah, yes. I did give it to her,” I replied.
”I’m also at an age where I care about it… so I wondered if the Rejuvenation Potion would make me younger. I think we talked about it,” she continued.
”Yes, I remember,” I said.
I had heard that from Clarissa-san, but since it was already decided to give it to Regina-san, I postponed it to avoid drawing attention. Normally, it’s very valuable—its effect would be worth at least a hundred Gold Coins in one year. The treasure chest containing it appears only in floors accessible to B-Rank and higher. Few exist, but they sell at high prices if obtained. As a result, the Royal Capital’s Dungeon is attracting more Adventurers aiming for a fortune. Whether to level up before attempting is up to them; C-Rank players are increasing. I also have no plan to restock materials, so the amount placed in the Dungeon is limited.
”Regina-san is older and beautiful, so I understand why you prioritized her… but I couldn’t help thinking that I also wanted one,” she said.
”I see… I’m sorry. I should have asked you, Clarissa-san,” I replied.
Given her personality, asking like that would be hard for her. Yet, her complex about age is strong. Suppressing her desire likely hardened her expression. The reason she wanted to say it became clear, but since it was a trump card for Regina-san, it was already decided to give it to her. Still, since I decided, I had to apologize to Clarissa-san, who had to wait.
”No, Daisuke-san, it’s not something you need to apologize for. As I said, it’s natural to prioritize Regina-san,” she said.
”Hmm, I have a different opinion on that…” I muttered.
”…Thank you. But you gave me cosmetics and became my lover. For a mere librarian, that’s already overwhelming luck. Seeing you made me show my feelings on my face, thinking, ‘Why not me?’ I feel pathetic… and I’m sorry for making you care…” she said.
Clarissa-san continued speaking with overflowing emotion. She seemed to have thought deeply.
”I should be the one apologizing. Sorry, Daisuke-san. Even though you’re kind to an older me, it’s understandable if a greedy me turned you off. More than anything, I—” she began.
”Wait a moment,” I interrupted.
I stopped Clarissa-san, who was clearly spiraling negatively. She is serious and understands reasons to blame herself, but if this continued, she’d break down. She’s not at fault.
”First, Clarissa-san, you’ve done nothing wrong. I want to make that clear,” I said.
”Eh? But it’s true I couldn’t suppress ugly jealousy, right?” she asked.
”Any woman would naturally want the Rejuvenation Potion, and that’s not bad,” I reassured her.
Considering Marriageable Age, Clarissa-san’s position in her Previous Life would have been mid-thirties. Women at that age would almost all want a Rejuvenation Potion. Only someone truly enlightened could say no.
”Clarissa-san worries too much about owing me and being a bother. I’ve told you before, but you’re like a flower on a high peak to me. I’m happy to have you as my lover, and I’m grateful. I wouldn’t turn away over something like this,” I said.
”Really? You really haven’t started disliking me?” she asked.
”Yes,” I answered.
”Good…” she sighed.
Clarissa-san exhaled deeply. She had been quite tense. To relieve her trauma or complex, one more step was necessary.
”Clarissa-san, please be more of a bother to me. Speak your selfish desires. Then—” I said.
”…Then?” she asked.
”I’ll be pleased,” I said.
”Don’t joke around anymore, okay?” she said.
”No, I’m serious. If it helps you, I don’t mind your selfishness, and if it makes you happy, I’m happy too,” I said.
Although it sounded teasing, it was true. This also applies to the other Lovers. Hugs and kisses are often requested, but actively asking for costly or troublesome things is rare. I wish they asked a bit more. Only preaching Meta is off-limits.
”Daisuke-san, you spoil me too much…♡” she said.
”I don’t think so. Well, in any case, I’ll definitely give you the Rejuvenation Potion eventually,” I replied.
”Eh!? Earlier you said that, but I hear it’s not easy to obtain?” she asked.
”Generally, yes. But for me, it’s easy. Trust me,” I said.
”Trust me? What’s that?” she asked.
Clearly, the Previous Life reference didn’t get across. Moreover, I already broke that promise. But her bewildered face is cute.
”Leave it to your reliable lover, that’s what it means,” I said.
”…Daisuke-san. If you say something like that, I can’t possibly refuse,” she added.
Clarissa-san spoke with a mix of concern and delight on her face. (Maybe the dark mood had been dispelled.)
”If you think you’ll be causing trouble, please consider the ‘apology’ paid in advance. You understand what I want, right?” I said.
”Uh… it’s a kiss, isn’t it?” Clarissa-san replied.
”Yes. A kiss from Clarissa-san is a ‘reward’ that can’t be replaced by anything else,” I said.
”Geez, Daisuke-san… mmm…♡” she murmured.
I hugged the slightly taller Clarissa-san and kissed her. The soft scent of rose perfume and the gentle warmth of her body were wonderful.
”Now there’s nothing left for you to worry about, Clarissa-san,” I said.
”…Thank you. After all, Daisuke-san is too good for me,” she said softly.
”No matter how you look at it, it’s the other way around though,” I replied.
”…Hehe, then let’s just call it mutual, okay?♡” she said with a smile.
”Yes,” I said.
Finally, Clarissa-san returned to her usual wonderful smile, and I kissed her once more before letting go. Her smile really suits her. To keep her smiling from now on, I would do my best.
Before I knew it, we had reached the exit.
”Then the usual, please,” she said.
”Yes, here you go♡” I replied.
It was a hug and kiss different from the earlier apology. Now that the tension had completely dissolved, she hugged me tightly. Her softness was amazing, and I could enjoy the gentle feel of her chest pressing against me. The warm, tender embrace was unique to a non-combatant woman. Wrapped in Clarissa-san’s kindness, I felt healed…
”Then, see you on Blue Day¹,” she said.
”Yes, I’ll be waiting. Be careful with your dangerous work,” I replied.
Clarissa-san, back to her usual smile, sent me off with a bright, loving expression. Clarissa-san’s complexes would have to be resolved little by little. As expected from the start, it’s a long-term affair. That aside, when should I give the Rejuvenation Potion²? Like with Regina, I don’t think Clarissa-san needs it, but if I mention it now, it might sound like an excuse for not having obtained it. I’ll say it when I hand it over.

Clarissa-san (small)
Clarissa-san (large)
Which one is better?
Meta Tsedes: “Last time, it was awful… By the way, the strongest character in the work seems to be Clarissa-san.”
Meta: “I thought she was a Level single-digit ordinary person, but she’s the strongest?”
Meta Tsedes: “In terms of popularity, it’s overwhelming. A pure and lovely adult woman… she’s similar to Mercedes-chan, isn’t she!”
Meta: “…Other people’s evaluation seems fair.”
