Volume 11 Chapter 32 Standard Bottom-Tier Adventurer – The Disguise is Perfect

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Recap of previous events: I was recruited into the “Five Saints” party. I listened to the non-lewd troubles of the erotically-bodied Mai.

Rutger: A pale-skinned Majin. Tall, high-income, and handsome. He’s the type of “stamina-heavy” lean-muscular guy you’d see in erotic manga aimed at women.

Ursula: A brown-scaled Dragonewt. Quite the sharp-tongued one.

 ===

An adventurer’s morning starts early. You wake at dawn, wash away the night’s sweat, and grab a meal before heading out. Since the entire day revolves around physical labor, you cannot get moving on an empty stomach. High food costs are one of the classic woes of adventuring. Once your gear is ready and your supplies are packed, you make your way to the Guild. After elbowing through the crowd at the bulletin board to secure a decent quest, your preparations are finally complete. Whether you can land a lucrative request has a direct impact on your earnings for the day, which is why arguments sometimes break out over them. Reputation matters too. If you look weak, you become an easy target.

Inside the dungeon, most of your time is spent fighting monsters, but they rarely stay where you expect them to. You have to hunt them down, and sometimes other monsters wander into the middle of a battle, turning a straightforward fight into a pincer attack or a chain encounter. Even if a party lacks overwhelming combat power, having someone with a Scout-type class can make all the difference when it comes to both survival and profit.

After returning from the dungeon, adventurers report their completed quests at the Guild. Lining up at your favorite clerk’s window is its own kind of therapy. Asking her out for a drink—even though you already know the answer will be no—is simply part of the routine. Still, that stubborn optimism is what keeps many adventurers going, driving both motivation and growth even when the dream itself remains hopelessly out of reach.

Once the Guild pays out the reward and the party splits the money, the day’s work is officially over. Some groups go their separate ways, while others head straight for an izakaya. That is where the real fun begins. Plenty of adventurers live by the philosophy that tomorrow is never guaranteed, so there is no point carrying money into it. As a result, drunken brawls after a noisy night of drinking are hardly uncommon. It is one of the reasons adventurers are often looked down upon as society’s bottom rung. However,1 the bonds forged over drinks should not be underestimated. A few drinks can lead to useful information, valuable connections, or even a new party member.

Those who still have energy left after dinner often drift toward the brothels. They wish they could spend the entire night with their favorite courtesan, but lacking the money to buy out her time, they part ways when the hour is up. More than a few adventurers dream of purchasing their favorite’s contract and retiring together someday. Exhausted, drunk, and thoroughly spent, they stagger back to their inns and collapse into bed.

A handful of people might offer prayers in the middle of the night or throw ten thousand punches in gratitude for surviving another day. In reality, almost no adventurer bothers. The adventurer’s creed is simple:

”If you’ve got time to think about that, go kill another monster!”

 ■■■

 ”Good morning,” I said.

 ”Umu,” Rutger replied.

 ”…Morning,” Ursula added.

Today was my first day working alongside the Five Saints. Although we were meeting earlier than usual, it was still later than the average adventurer’s start time. There were very few B-Rank adventurers and above, so competition for quests was minimal. We had no reason to join the morning scramble at the bulletin board.

”First stop is the eighteenth floor, right?” I asked.

 ”Umu.”

”…Show us how you normally fight.”

As we made our way through the dungeon, I left Rutger to his own devices and worked out the details with Ursula. The plan was simple. I would demonstrate my abilities against Karkinos crabs and rock-type sub-dragons on the eighteenth floor. If that went well, we would try party combat on the nineteenth. If that looked promising too, we would move on to the twentieth floor. Since the two of them currently operated there by themselves, it was the natural benchmark.

 ”I’ll start with the crabs.”

 ”Umu.”

 ”…Be careful.”

I decided to stick with my usual Magic Swordsman style. If either of them asked questions, I could simply explain that I was proficient in both swordsmanship and magic.

Karkinos crabs were weak to lightning. A single lightning spell dealt massive damage, and once the creature was stunned, I severed its claws at the joints and finished it off. The whole fight took about a minute.

 ”How was that?” I asked.

”It wasn’t quite what I imagined, but I don’t see any problems with it,” Rutger said.

”…Fast. Much faster than expected,” Ursula added.

Next came a Puppy Rock Dragon. I deliberately held back, so the battle lasted around five minutes. I explained the difference as a matter of compatibility.

After that, we moved to the nineteenth floor and began testing party combat. Rutger shifted fluidly between the front and middle lines depending on the situation, while Ursula was a pure vanguard who specialized in defensive counters. I positioned myself slightly farther back than Rutger, acting as support.

At lunchtime, we left the dungeon and held a barbecue. Part of the reason was that I wanted to score a little goodwill with Ursula.

 ”Umu, this is delicious.”

 ”…Tasty.”

 The results were promising.

That evening, we headed out for a welcome party.

”I didn’t underestimate you, but you’re better than I expected,” Rutger admitted.

 ”…You exceeded expectations.”

 ”Thank you.”

Although I had been holding back, my performance was still appropriate for someone who could comfortably solo the eighteenth floor. In a party, operating on the twentieth floor would not raise any suspicions. It seemed their opinion of me had improved somewhat. As long as they only revised their assessment upward a little, I could live with that.

The drinking session went more or less as expected. Rutger became increasingly cheerful as he drank and slipped bits of bragging into every conversation. Ursula barely changed at all, quietly shutting him down whenever he started getting carried away. Watching the two of them interact was surprisingly entertaining, and it made me think that joining them for drinks once in a while might not be so bad.

More importantly, I needed to build trust with Ursula. That alone was reason enough to participate actively.

Well, I would figure out the rest as it came.

Looking back on the day as a whole, it had been a hassle, but it seemed manageable. I had successfully concealed my true strength, and my earnings had increased, if only slightly. It was probably good experience for the future, even if I was not convinced I would need to party up with anyone else again.

I also made sure to secure one full day off every week, along with two additional half-days where I would only work in the morning. Yellow Day was reserved for my weekly library visit—a date with Clarissa-san—and I needed part of another day for Liese’s leveling. Having multiple girlfriends meant my schedule filled up fast.

 ===

Meta Tsedes: “Daisuke-san and the others grew at such an absurd pace that they barely spent half a year living the life of ordinary bottom-tier adventurers.”

 Narrator: “As expected of Daisuke-sama♡”

Meta Tsedes: “Let’s ignore the Narrator for a moment. Gabu-san, do you remember those days?”

Gabu: “Before I knew it, I’d already made C-Rank. Oti, Maaya, and I congratulated the five of them with a big ‘Congrats!’ and they totally freaked out. It was hilarious, lol.”

Meta Tsedes: “Please do not laugh at them. They were trying their best.”

Gabu: “Hey, I wasn’t making fun of them. I just thought they were cute☆”

Narrator: “A gyaru who is kind to nerds.”

 Summary:

Daisuke begins his first day as a cooperator with the Five Saints party, navigating the balance between maintaining his disguise and proving his worth as an adventurer. He successfully demonstrates his combat proficiency on the 18th floor and adjusts to the party dynamic during their trek to the 20th floor. The day concludes with a welcoming party where he gauges his new partners’ temperaments, leaving him to weigh the benefits of continued collaboration against his existing busy schedule.

 —

 Trivia:

The Five Saints party currently lacks a full roster, operating with only two members.

Daisuke specifically limits his combat output to hide his true capabilities, including his history as a healer.

The protagonist has a specific schedule for personal activities, including weekly library dates and training sessions.

Rutger’s pale skin is not due to malnutrition, despite Daisuke’s internal speculation.

1 A portmanteau of “drinking” and “communication,” referring to the Japanese social practice of bonding and networking through informal, alcohol-fueled social gatherings, often outside of professional settings.

Notes:

• Mai – A 175cm female transferee, former gym instructor, and Leemans member who leads the Yamato Nadeshiko Party as a War Saint Vanguard. She has a muscular, toned, and noticeably erotic build with a single ponytail, very large chest, and masculine beauty. Cheerful, composed, and battle-hungry, this 10x EXP cheat tactician stays level-headed with Gerta and sought out Daisuke for advice on physical urges.

• Rutger – The “Flame Sword” is an arrogant, theatrically formal Majin (demonkin) Sword Saint and vanguard of the Five Saints party. Standing 180cm with a lean, muscular build, pale blue skin, and long white-and-blue hair, this high-earning, A-Rank adventurer has a boisterous personality and loves showing off his magic. He acts as a condescending duel arbiter who rejected Gabriela’s romantic advances.

• Ursula – An A-Rank vanguard tank, this 170cm stoic dragonewt has brown scales, dark brown hair, and a broken horn. The “Great Shield” of the Five Saints, she combines high defense, earth magic, and threat management. Standing 160cm with a soft, curvy build, large hips, and long blonde hair, she uses fire and illusion magic. While projecting a warm, protective presence, she masks stress and age insecurities.
