Chapter 276 Capturing Katerea

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

If she had dressed like that a little earlier, Aki might have humored her. Then again, it was not as though the opportunity had passed.

Vali had badly underestimated Aki’s true combat ability, and now the White Dragon Emperor was struggling to recover after having his rhythm completely broken. Katerea wanted to drag him back as a “tool”? In that case, it seemed only fair for Aki to drag her home as a “vessel” instead. Besides, they were in the middle of a war. Taking prisoners was common sense… right? As it happened, he needed a Demon King-class partner for Dual Cultivation1 if he wanted to break through his current bottleneck, and Katerea fit the requirements almost perfectly.

The only issue was that this fiery mare of a woman seemed determined to die. Whenever she realized she could not win, she immediately tried to drag everyone down with her.

”Easy now, Reya-chan,” Aki said casually. “Don’t get so worked up.”

He said that while forcing the Black Beauty to cough up blood.

”Is this your first time? I can be gentle if you need me to be.”

Katerea was a mature Devil. She understood exactly what that double meaning implied, and as a descendant of Leviathan, she had never suffered such humiliation before. Even though she was still technically a maiden, there was no chance she would ever admit that to him.

Several more exchanges followed, yet the result never changed. Aki suppressed her from start to finish. His mouth never stopped running, but his hands remained cold and ruthless. Capturing her alive was the goal, yet he had no intention of risking an opening for the sake of mercy.

More importantly, he refused to give her any chance to kill herself.

As Katerea’s endurance approached its limit, a sharp sound suddenly echoed across the battlefield.

 Crack.

The sound resembled shattering glass, spreading in every direction as the pale-red barrier covering the sky broke apart and vanished.

Nearby, Grayfia’s elegant composure finally cracked. The silver-haired beauty had spent considerable effort analyzing the seal, only for someone to destroy it at the worst possible moment. Since the barrier had been designed to keep people trapped inside, it was remarkably fragile when attacked from the outside.

A handsome young man with short hair stepped through the opening with a staff resting on his shoulder. His aura was roughly Demon King-class. Ignoring the many powerhouses gathered on the battlefield, he casually landed beside Vali.

”Sun Wukong, what’s this?” Vali asked in a calm voice.

”We’ve still got the Norse God faction to deal with up north,” the newcomer replied with easy confidence. “Get your ass moving and let’s go.”

”Is that so… I suppose it’s time, then.”

Already bored with the current battle, Vali accepted the suggestion without hesitation.

”Who the hell is this?” Rias asked with a frown as she looked at the uninvited guest acting as though he owned the place.

”That’s Sun Wukong, a descendant of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven,” Grayfia replied, visibly restraining her irritation. “In short, he is the infamous monkey from Journey to the West.”

That last remark clearly carried a bit of personal resentment.

At that moment, Katerea’s slender neck remained firmly trapped in Aki’s grasp as he held her aloft with one hand. He glanced toward the newcomer, and that single look was enough to stir something deep within his bloodline. His gaze settled on the golden headband sitting openly on the young man’s forehead.

 ”Great Sage?” Aki muttered.

 The short-haired youth laughed loudly.

”You’re giving me too much credit. I’m no ‘Great Sage.’ Unlike the original, I just live however I want.”

 Sirzechs sighed.

”I never imagined even you would join the Khaos Brigade. The world really is heading toward… well.”

Although Aki’s memories remained hazy, seeing the real thing triggered a flood of information. There was Wukong, talk of a Bajie, and even descendants belonging to figures who should have already reached enlightenment. It was a parallel world, sure, but the whole thing was becoming absurd. Wukong, Bajie, and that White Dragon…

Aki let out a quiet chuckle as the thought crossed his mind.

”Hey, the White Dragon and Sun Wukong—that’s actually a pretty good duo.”

The monkey-man laughed again. The sound felt strange, yet it stirred an unexpected sense of nostalgia. The facial hair might be gone, but the bloodline was impossible to mistake. For that laugh alone, Aki was willing to acknowledge him.

 The laughter faded.

Sun Wukong spun his staff, drawing a vortex of black mana around it before slamming the rod into the ground. A massive teleportation circle immediately spread beneath them.

As Vali and Wukong prepared to leave, Ornis and the others decisively broke off their battles and moved to retreat as well. Michael and the others made no attempt to stop them. Shemhaza, for example, was still occupied with ordering Kokabiel back into confinement.

 Only Katerea remained behind.

The time limit on her Balance Breaker finally expired. Even while heavily wounded, she relied on her Demon King-class foundation to force herself free from Aki’s grasp.

Aki let her go. In her condition she was going nowhere, and sooner or later she would end up in his hands anyway.

”Vali… Wukong… take me with you…” Katerea pleaded between ragged breaths.

Her dark Devil wings beat frantically as she stumbled toward the teleportation circle. Vali frowned but said nothing. Wukong glanced toward him, and the activation of the circle slowed ever so slightly.

 ”Tsk.”

 Aki clicked his tongue.

His gaze shifted toward Sirzechs and Serafall, irritation flashing across his face. They still were not making any move to stop the retreat. Fine. If they were unwilling to act, then he would handle it himself.

He knew he could not stop two Demon King-class opponents in his current condition.

 He simply did not care.

”I, who am about to awaken…” Aki chanted.

”Am the Heavenly Dragon who has stolen the principles of domination from God…”

”Mocking the infinite, fretting over the dream…”

”I shall become the Red Dragon of Domination…”

”And I will drown you in the depths of the crimson purgatory!”

 ”[Juggernaut Drive]!”

The transformation finished in less than a second.

If his Balance Breaker resembled a humanoid warrior, then the Juggernaut Drive was a true dragon through and through. No one had expected him to unleash such a trump card just as the battle was ending, and no one understood his reason for doing it.

Aki had no time to explain.

This form consumed his life force every second it remained active. Fortunately, his growth since the previous use meant he no longer had to fear collapsing into the miserable state he had suffered before, provided he ended it within a minute.

Violent crimson mana flooded the battlefield.

Vali reacted immediately, instinctively preparing to activate his own Juggernaut Drive.

 ”I am the awakened—”

”Vali, stop. He’s not coming for you.”

 Albion’s calm voice interrupted him.

”Just leave. You can’t save that Devil girl. That man… the Red Dragon Emperor of this generation seems to have lost his temper.”

After consulting with Ddraig, even Albion had been forced to admit that Aki truly was the successor.

 Aki was angry.

Demon King-class fighters were powerful. Fine. Playing their political games was one thing. Fine. But did they really have to drag everyone else into their mess?

If it had not been for Sona Sitri, he would never have involved himself in this battle to begin with. After realizing that Serafall had been acting the entire time, he had already shown plenty of restraint by staying.

He had defeated two of their enemies.

 They had not helped.

And now they were simply going to let Katerea walk away?

 The Juggernaut Drive activated completely.

If Serafall tried to stop him, he would go through her too.

Afterward, he could always claim it had ‘spiraled out of control.’

Fortunately, Serafall was not foolish enough to test that excuse. Once the initial shock wore off, both Demon Kings immediately understood what he intended to do.

The crimson dragon’s claw tore through space before slamming shut around the Black Beauty.

 ”Urgh…!”

 Katerea released a strangled cry.

Muscle and bone groaned under the crushing force. It was the first genuine cry of pain she had made since the battle began.

 A moment later, silence followed.

 She had lost consciousness.

”Hm… maybe I used a little too much strength.”

A deep, distorted voice rumbled from inside the monstrous crimson dragon. White mist spilled from its razor-sharp jaws whenever it spoke.

 He did not chase Vali.

If the White Dragon Emperor activated his own Juggernaut Drive, the situation would become troublesome, and Aki had already enjoyed himself enough.

”Until next time, Red Dragon Emperor,” Wukong said lightly.

Vali stared at the overwhelming crimson dragon, genuine excitement shining in his eyes.

”Next time, let’s have a proper go at it.”

”You’d better hurry up and get stronger, then.”

His voice remained rough and distorted as he reverted from the Juggernaut Drive, throwing Vali’s own words back at him. Although he had not mastered his Balance Breaker to the same degree as Vali, the White Dragon Emperor still could not touch him while he remained in that form.

Aki had a feeling that once he reached Demon King-class himself, he would have complete control over the Juggernaut Drive.
