Chapter 307 An Enemy Appears
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The next morning, Aki received messages from Sakuramachi Touko and Takamine’s mother.
Working together, they had found the Fallen Angels and Stray Priest (a renegade priest using dark powers) who had sneaked into Kuoh town. 1
Because Aki had given specific orders, the investigation did not go too deep. That way, no one got hurt. But it also meant they only had rough clues — they did not find the exact hiding spot.
Aki told Irina and Xenovia, who had been searching the streets without much luck. With Yuuto joining them — he had set his sights on revenge again — the four met up and began the search quickly.
As the area grew smaller, Aki felt the place ahead of him become familiar.
”Kiba, I think I already know where those guys are hiding.” Aki said with a shrug.
He looked at the old factory in front of him and curled his lip. “I was wondering why a sudden emergency mission came up last time. Turns out that brainless Stray Devil and Stray Priest hooked up with the Fallen Angels.”
”Fallen Angels already betrayed God. It is normal for traitors to stick together.” Xenovia said coldly.
She held the large Destruction Holy Sword in front of her, her face serious. She settled into a fighting stance.
The closer she got to the old factory, the more she felt a cold chill that made her heart pound.
Yuuto and Irina also looked serious. The three of them were about the same strength — all A-rank — and they could sense the danger, but they could not find its true source.
”Three Holy Swords (sacred weapons made to kill devils), two priests, one Fallen Angel.” Aki said calmly. “The two priests and the Holy Swords are about as strong as you. But that Fallen Angel is a problem — I’d say you can’t handle him.”
With his power, only the Demon King-class Kokabiel could barely hide his presence.
But Aki already knew this whole thing was his doing. Just from Xenovia saying the Holy Sword had been taken by him, anyone could guess who that lone Fallen Angel was.
The Stray Devil from last time had probably been left behind to guard the place. Otherwise, Aki would have noticed there were others hiding here before.
Knowing they had been found, the people inside the factory stopped hiding.
Three men — the type you could spot as villains at a glance — walked out one after another.
First came a priest holding a knife-shaped Holy Sword. His face was wild, like a mad dog ready to bite at any moment.
Behind him was a kind-looking old man with a round belly and white hair. He wore the holy white robe of a high Bishop of the church.
”Valper.” Xenovia whispered, her voice tight.
She had heard from Aki that Valper, who always craved the Holy Sword, had teamed up with the Fallen Angels. But seeing it for real still made her heart sink.
As a high Bishop of the church, Valper might not be strong in a fight. But when it came to the Holy Sword, no one could claim to be the best if Valper did not agree.
This time, because of the Holy Sword, he had appeared here. Whatever he was after, it was not small.
Yuuto’s eyes were already red. He could not wait to rush up and cut that smiling fat old man to death — to avenge his fallen friends.
Luckily, Aki had warned him beforehand. He barely kept himself together, forcing himself not to throw his life away.
Valper was not his real enemy. The true mastermind of this whole thing would not just stand by and watch.
Yuuto looked at the dark figure behind Valper, and his heart shook.
He knew this person. Not only did he know him — he had seen him fight.
He knew for certain that he was no match for him. He might not even get a chance to swing his sword.
The one who came was a leader of the Fallen Angels’ main fighting group: Kokabiel. He had appeared at the Three Factions Talk before.
He floated high in the air, his twelve pairs of black wings spread wide. He even brought a simple palace beneath him. As soon as he spoke, he made it clear that Aki and the others were beneath him — perfectly showing off the Fallen Angel leader’s pride.
”Heh heh, I did not expect only a few of you to come.” Kokabiel sneered.
Aki ignored him and quietly felt his strength.
After a moment, he raised an eyebrow.
Looks like since the last Three Factions Talk, he has made no progress at all…
So why all the show?
”I was going to say — why are there only three of you? That would not be enough to go around.” Aki glanced at Kokabiel, his tone light.
Kokabiel stopped laughing. Being looked down on by someone younger than him was worse than being killed.
That was how a war fanatic’s mind worked.
”Hmph. What a fine Red Dragon Emperor.” The floating throne used for show disappeared. Kokabiel said coldly: “This time there is no woman to help you. Let me see how you use the Balance Breaker mode.”
Right. The news that he had broken through to Demon King-class and mastered Balance Breaker through pure strength had not spread yet.
No wonder this guy was showing off so much at the start. That explained it.
Aki stood still for a moment, then pretended to suddenly understand.
”Oh, right. Or why don’t you wait for me? I will call Buchou and President. Did you not just say there were too few people here?” Aki asked with a fake grin.
Kokabiel froze. He did not dare agree.
If he let Aki use Balance Breaker, plus the help of the Occult Research Club and the Student Council girls, he really might not win.
But if he did not agree, it would look like he was contradicting himself.
”Hmph. Sharp-tongued brat.” Kokabiel barked angrily: “When I beat you half to death and bring you to your Master, I hope your tongue can still be this sharp.”
”Hey, that is not fair. Resorting to insults when you cannot win an argument?” Aki shot back, his voice full of mockery.
Aki stayed his usual careless self. He did not take Kokabiel seriously at all — even though a Light Spear bigger than a person had already formed in the other’s hand.
Kokabiel stopped talking. His face dark, he prepared to attack.
”Wait a second.” Aki suddenly raised his hand.
”What? Now you want to beg for mercy? It is too late!” Kokabiel shouted.
”No, no.” Aki waved his hand. “I am just curious. Last time you were hanging out with the Khaos Brigade (a group that wants to destroy the Three Factions). After you went back, did Shemhaza not punish you? Or is it that…”
”After betraying, this time you have betrayed the Fallen Angels again and fully joined the Khaos Brigade.” Aki continued, his tone turning sharp.
Kokabiel said flatly: “Compared to that, you had better worry about whether you will stay alive next.”
”Whether I stay alive is not something you need to worry about.” Aki said, his voice dropping into a cold, dangerous tone.
Aki put away his smile. Huge, deep Mana began to flow around him. The space near him even looked like it was bending.
”But your answer decides whether you live or die next.”
Kokabiel’s wild, narrow eyes shrank sharply. Aki did not use Balance Breaker, but Kokabiel could feel the danger coming from him.
He gripped the Light Spear in his hand without thinking, pouring more Mana into it.
The Light Spear — already as big as a person — grew until it stopped at the size of a house.
Sharp on both ends, the yellow Light Spear blocked the sky, held above Kokabiel’s head. The huge spear was surrounded by rings of purple Mana. At a glance, it looked like a cannon from a science-fiction movie.
The two Holy Sword users felt a dark weight in their hearts. They were used to risking their lives on every mission, but this feeling of powerlessness was truly too hopeless.
Under Kokabiel’s full power, even Valper and the crazy Stray Priest stepped back without thinking, afraid of getting caught in the blast.
Yuuto’s hand, holding his magic sword, was also shaking. Demon King-class… it was terrifyingly strong.
He looked back at Aki’s unmoving figure. The fear in his heart slowly faded, replaced by a belief that he had to get stronger.
His shaking hand steadied. Yuuto stared straight at Valper in front of him.
Kokabiel was Aki’s problem. As for his enemy — the one he hated — that was his own fight.
”Are you sure you will not answer?” Aki asked coldly.
Dark blue, huge Magic circles formed at Aki’s feet. If this was Kokabiel’s strongest attack, Aki would not even need Balance Breaker.
Being ignored again, Kokabiel’s anger reached its limit. At first he wanted to beat Aki half to death and use him to lure Rias out. Now he only wanted to destroy him completely — erase him from this world.
”I was thinking about whether to give Shemhaza some respect. But now it looks like there is no need.” Aki muttered to himself.
His eyes turned cold. Fallen Angels, plainly speaking, were just a group of traitors who had betrayed the Angels. He had never liked them.
For the sake of peace between the Three Factions, he had been hesitating about whether to kill Kokabiel.
But after everything that had happened at the Three Factions Talk, Kokabiel could still come out and cause trouble. Forget being locked up — it did not even look like he had been punished at all.
Since Shemhaza could not keep him under control, it was better to get rid of this danger early.
As long as he cleaned up the traces, even if the Fallen Angels came looking, he could just deny it.
He was just a high-ranking Devil. How could he possibly kill Demon King-class Kokabiel?
What? He nearly killed Azazel when he was S-rank?
No way. Not unless you have proof.
