Xenovia watched Irina daydream. She remembered that crazy abstract painting. Her mouth twitched, but she let out a long breath. She decided not to sink to this crazy fool’s level.
Irina had grown up under the [President]. After earning Holy Sword wielder (a person chosen to use a sacred blade) qualifications, she served the Church. She was as pure as a little white flower. It would be so easy to swindle every cent she had. If her combat skills were not heaven-defying, scammers would have tried again. Otherwise, she likely would have been sold somewhere awful.
Aki watched from the side and smirked. “No wonder you two went to the Hyoudou residence for dinner today. Turns out you were broke.”

Facing Aki’s teasing, she looked down at her toes. Well, her chest was too large to see them. With her head bowed, she whispered shyly. “I didn’t know how much longer we’d be staying here. Their strong bodies would not starve if they missed a few days of food. But it would hurt their combat skills. More importantly, being hungry was miserable. Hunger is a terrifying thing. ”If you don’t mind, you can stay here until this incident concludes,” Aki said with a friendly smile. “Of course, I’ll provide three meals a day.”
He had decided to secure these two. He certainly would not let such an opportunity slip by. Xenovia was a natural-born Holy Sword wielder. She definitely possessed a special bloodline [Talent]. Irina let out a light hum. Her face flushed, and she muttered, “I know, I know. Who would want to see you guys doing that stuff…”
Xenovia stood to the side. She remained silent as she reached out to take the key. Still, her thoughtful look was somewhat concerning.
”Dinner is at seven, on the first floor. Don’t forget,” Aki noted. Then he turned to leave.
Three minutes later, he found Yuuto. She was working up a sweat in the courtyard.
”Yu… Yuuki,” Aki called out.
”Hm? Aki, is there news about the [Holy sword]?” Yuuto asked. Her tone was quick and professional.
”Not yet. Even if my [girls] are capable, these things take time,” Aki said, rolling his eyes. “I was just talking to Xenovia and the others about the [Holy Sword Project]. I feel like you should hate the people who executed the plan. Not the [Holy sword] as an object.”
”But I don’t know who orchestrated it. And I heard the person responsible back then was already punished,” Yuuto replied. The magic sword in her hand dissipating into specks of light. She smiled bitterly.
”In the [Holy Sword Project], our batch of children were just throwaway items. We didn’t even have personal freedom.”
”Every experiment was agonizing. People were constantly dying.”
”But we all held on through our faith in [God]. Yet, once they confirmed the experiment failed, the Church gave an order about us survivors. It was ‘execution’.”
”It wasn’t until that moment that we realized our true status. Only because our companions sacrificed their lives to help me, I was lucky enough to survive.”
Yuuto recounted her inner turmoil. Aki listened quietly without interrupting.
”My body was damaged during the experiments. With the [Buchou]’s help, the Church never discovered me.”
”After escaping, I often wondered why it was me who lived. There were companions who were stronger than me. There were companions who had more dreams than I did… Do I really deserve to live?”
”I still haven’t managed to understand the answer to that question. But I know one thing. By destroying the [Holy sword]—by destroying the source that caused everything—I can perhaps offer some solace to the companions who passed away.”
”Hmm, I don’t deny that’s one way to do it,” Aki nodded. Then he changed his tone. “But compared to the [Holy sword], I think the people who carried out the plan deserve to die more. Especially the one who proposed this experiment and led the execution. Balba Galilei.”
”Balba Galilei?!” Yuuto’s mind went blank. Memories from the depths of her past began to surface.
”Yes. That man was the person in charge of the [Holy Sword Project]. He was once a High [Bishop] of the Church.”
Aki had already finished asking about the so-called [Holy Sword Project]. That was when he acted as a guide for Xenovia and Irina. The [Holy Sword Project] had been highly classified. But nowadays, it was no longer much of a secret. Although the [Holy Sword Project] failed, Balba Galilei was indeed a genius. Through the failed experiments, he had created a method. He could extract the Holy Sword wielder factor.
The so-called Holy Sword wielder factor was a type of bloodline gene. It was just rather [magic], yet it could be pulled out. Many people possessed the Holy Sword wielder factor. But very few had a high enough amount to use a [Holy sword].

”No, I guessed it.”
Most of what followed was based on information from Aki’s memories. Fortunately, the Occult Research Club members were already accustomed to his [ability]. It felt like prophecy.
