Chapter 151 The Ideal Party

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”What do you think you’re doing, you guys?! Sheathe your swords!” shouted Sumire Kousaka, pushing her wooden sword forward as she jumped between the male students who were glaring at each other with drawn blades.

”Wh-Who the hell do you think you are?!” barked an ordinary-looking male student, glaring at Sumire.

However, the other boy—a flashy, brown-haired student with a casual air—took a step back, let out a sigh of relief, and lowered his weapon. He raised a hand toward Sumire as she glanced his way, showing he would obey by sliding his sword back into its scabbard.

When the first student still refused to lower his blade, Sumire leveled the tip of her wooden sword directly at his throat.

”Hey, get out of my way! Chibi!” he spat.

”Who are you calling a Chibi?!” Sumire roared back.

At the same time as her angry shout, she launched several fast strikes. The wooden sword cracked down sharply against the male student’s gauntlet and shoulder.

”Ugh?!” the boy groaned, his weapon clattering to the floor.

The male student dropped his sword and collapsed to his knees. Yet his fighting spirit hadn’t broken; seeing him reach behind his waist to draw something else, Sumire instantly hoisted her wooden sword back into the air.

Right then, a huge hand reached from behind, gripping the wooden sword and freezing her movement in place.

”Hey, punk. Are you blind to the Public Order Committee brassard?” a low, menacing voice growled through the corridor.

”Ya-Yamazaki…?!” the male student stammered, his face draining of all color as his movements ground to a halt.

Standing right behind the small Sumire was Yamazaki, wearing an eye patch made from a traditional sword guard, like something from a period drama.

”If it’s just fists, I’d let you off with a warning,” Yamazaki continued, tightening his grip. “But once the blades come out, it’s not a schoolyard brawl anymore. A bloody knife fight counts as a failure on our watch. Tell me, punk, are you looking to pick a fight with Kibakura-san?”

Finally understanding how serious things were, the male student noticed Kibakura watching from a distance, and his face went completely pale.

”N-No, you’ve got it wrong! That bastard laid his hands on My (Ore no) woman…!” he yelled defensively.

”Whoa, hold up, give me a break,” the brown-haired student chimed in, throwing his hands up in a relaxed gesture. “You only hooked up with Naomi once, didn’t you? I’m (Ore) have been her friends with benefits since way back. Naomi herself said you’ve been stalking her and making a total nuisance of yourself.”

”That’s a lie! You’re blackmailing Naomi!” the delinquent shouted back.

”Nah bro, no matter how many times I explain it, the words just don’t register with this guy,” the brown-haired student countered, turning toward Yamazaki with a troubled expression. “Go check with Naomi yourself if you don’t believe me. And he drew his sword first, so I only pulled mine in self-defense. I’m not stupid enough to get into a real death-match in a place like this.”

”Hey, why is that girl always so very quick to throw hands?” Kibakura asked with an exasperated sigh. “If she’d just walked over here with Yamazaki, she wouldn’t have even needed to step in.”

”Yes… I’m deeply sorry…” muttered Ai Toono, bowing her head apologetically.

The trouble in front of the A Block second-floor classroom finally seemed ready to settle down thanks to Yamazaki’s help. Ever since the Public Order Committee had been established, it was almost exclusively the hot-headed Sumire Kousaka who resorted to physical force; whenever Kibakura and his inner circle showed up, a single glare was literally all it took to make the troublemakers fall into line.

Unlike what Ai first expected, Kibakura and the others stayed calm even during violent fights. They were very good at stopping opponents with words alone. They had never actually needed to use physical force until now, which technically meant Sumire was the most violent member of the entire group.

”Whoa… that girl is even snapping back at Yamazaki. What is she, an aggressive snapping turtle…?” whispered Shouji, peering out at the situation with a pale face while practically hiding behind Kibakura’s back.

In the past, Sojiro Doi used to style his bleached brown hair straight up like a rooster’s comb, but now his hair was combed down and dyed pitch black. His timid, trembling demeanor had none of his old violent air. Anyone who didn’t know him well would never guess this was the exact same Sojiro Doi who once reigned as an executive of Demiurge.

”Hey Shouji, you want to try breaking up the next fight yourself pretty soon?” Kibakura called out to the boy who had altered his appearance just enough to finally manage walking around in public.

”No way, that’s impossible! Give me a break!” Shouji cried out, backing away in a panic. “Just imagining it makes my legs shake!”

Shouji looked like he was already on the verge of tears. He seemed desperately terrified of his true identity leaking out—that he was the same Sojiro Doi who had been completely humiliated in front of the entire student body—to the point where he completely loathed even being addressed as ‘Doi’ while outside.

”You’ve got zero spine, you know that? You’re letting yourself get way too freaked out,” Kibakura scoffed.

”I can’t help it! There’s literally nothing I can do about it!” Shouji protested.

At first, they had practically dragged a reluctant Shouji out of his room kicking and screaming to make him join patrols, so the fact that he now followed them quietly was real progress. Starting this week, they had put him under the care of Shiraishi from his class, even getting him to attend a few lessons.

”Keep your eyes peeled and learn from how Yamazaki handles things,” Kibakura instructed. “As for the little Chibi-chan’s method… well, I guess it’s acceptable if it’s an absolute emergency.”

Sumire kicked one of the male students in the rear, dragging him off somewhere to isolate him for a lecture. A moment later, Yamazaki came trotting back to the group.

”Kibakura-san. It looks like that bastard convinced himself a girl was his girlfriend after sleeping with her exactly once, and he lost his mind at her actual friends-with-benefits partner,” Yamazaki reported, lowering his voice. “I verified the story with the bystanders, and the guy who was confronted seems to be telling the truth. I’ll have Kousaka’s sister double-check with the girl just to be fully sure. If we let our Kousaka handle the lecturing this time around, things might get unnecessarily complicated.”

”Understood. Take care of it,” Kibakura offered a brief nod.

Yamazaki gave a respectful bow before heading off after Sumire.

They called it a ‘lecture,’ but in reality, it amounted to cornering the troublemaker, threatening them that making waves meant turning the entire Public Order Committee into an enemy, and completely crushing their spirit. There wasn’t a single soul around here capable of providing delicate mental health support, nor was that the committee’s job anyway. Sumire simply didn’t seem to grasp that nuance very well.

Yamazaki was proving to be far more useful than anticipated. His reputation as ‘Yamazaki the Brawler’ was well-known among the general student body, giving his presence some serious weight. Ever since he lost to Kibakura in a one-on-one fight, he had clearly resolved to accept the terms of his defeat, remaining fully straightforward and compliant. Above all, he was highly active, sharp-witted, and quick to adapt to shifting situations.

”He really was a great find,” Kibakura muttered, a pleased smirk spreading across his face.

As it stood, Fumioka was the only other person capable of splitting off to lead their own independent squad. Their vice class president, Sumire, was the reckless, full-steam-ahead type who constantly required a handler to keep her under control. Ai Toono had plenty of common sense and wasn’t stupid by any means, but she was frequently indecisive and easily pushed around by Sumire, making her somewhat unreliable in a pinch. Moriya had an intimidating presence, but lacked the necessary judgment when actual trouble broke out. While the female side had recently added two new members, both were still far too green to rely on. Shouji was completely out of commission as a fighting asset, which ultimately made Yamazaki an very valuable piece of person to have.

For context, Fumioka was currently patrolling the B Block school building alongside Moriya and the two new female members.

A ringtone chimed, and when Kibakura checked his smartphone, a new message had arrived.

”Oh, looks like we finally got a recommendation for a new member,” Kibakura announced.

It was a notification from the Student Council recommending a new candidate for the Public Order Committee. Until now, the Student Council hadn’t put forward a single recommendation. They had gone so far as to run recruitment advertisements in the Academy Daily, but with a roster packed full of former Demiurge executives, it was hardly surprising that regular applicants were few and far between.

Right at that moment, the school chime began to ring, signaling the end of the break period.

”Fumioka and I are heading over to the Student Council right now to interview the new recruit,” Kibakura said, turning around. “Shouji, you want to tag along?”

”Th-The Student Council?!” Shouji gasped, his face twisting in horror as he rejected the offer with wildly exaggerated gestures. “You’ve got to be kidding me! I am never setting foot anywhere near that place for the rest of my life!”

The waiting rooms lined the 1st floor of the dedicated Student Council building. It was shortly after the fourth-period classes had begind over in the main school building that Kibakura and Fumioka arrived at one of those very rooms.

”Yo, sorry to barge in,” Kibakura said carelessly as he pushed the door open.

”We’ve been waiting for you! Kibakura-senpai! Fumioka-senpai!” greeted the secretary, Rikka Sugimoto, with a vibrant, energetic smile.

”Oh, so it’s this guy…” Kibakura murmured.

Standing directly behind Rikka was a strikingly handsome male student clutching an electric guitar. The moment Kibakura and Fumioka laid eyes on him, a heavy furrow carved itself between their brows.

”Yes. He is the candidate the Student Council is officially recommending to the Public Order Committee—” Rikka began.

”‘Sup! Second-year, Class F, Jinnai Yosuke! My class is ‘Bard (Bard)’! Looking forward to working with you!” the very good-looking male student shouted with far too much energy while roughly playing his electric guitar.

Kibakura and Fumioka’s brows knit even tighter, and they fell silent.

In truth, this guy was very famous. Alongside the Academy’s famous top three beauties—Amahara Karen, Kijima Shiori, and Asagiri Himeno—and the famous pair of handsome elite boys, stood Sogahara Takashi and this exact Jinnai Yosuke.

”Jinnai, huh… I could have sworn I heard rumors that you died?” Fumioka inquired, rubbing the bridge of his nose to soothe his growing headache.

”Yes! But I have returned in perfect health! Nowadays, people call me ‘Jinnai the Death-Returner’ or ‘The Immortal Jinnai’!” Jinnai proclaimed proudly, violently strumming the strings again—Gyuuueeeeinn!

”Unless someone was an absolute trainwreck, I was fully intending to hire them on the spot, but… what the hell do we do with this?” Kibakura whispered under his breath to Fumioka.

Rumor had it that Jinnai was in a band and even boasted his own dedicated female fan club. He came from an excellent family background, and back in Japan, he had occupied a special luxury room on the highest floor of the A Block boys’ dormitory; his reputation among the male students wasn’t particularly terrible either. However, whereas Vice President Sogahara was showered with grand titles like ‘The Noble Prince’ or ‘The Perfect Human,’ the nickname firmly attached to Jinnai was ‘The Blundering Prince.’

”We’ve been waiting ages for an additional member, and this is an official recommendation from the Student Council,” Fumioka sighed. “Let’s at least conduct a proper interview before making a call.”

”Fair enough… Alright, Jinnai,” Kibakura said, gathering his composure to begin the interview. “What exactly made you want to join the Public Order Committee?”

”Yes! To tell you the truth, I was recently exiled from my party and had completely nowhere left to go!” Jinnai explained dramatically. “Then, just a moment ago, I happened to spot the recruitment article in the Academy Daily! I heard rumor that free bento meals are provided, so this is totally, you know, one of those situations! It’s exactly like: ‘Exiled from the Band, I Will Max Out My Stats with My Guitar Technique! It’s Too Late for You to Beg Me to Come Back Now!’!”

 ”……”

It seemed he hadn’t volunteered for any deep reason. Kibakura and Fumioka couldn’t help but stare hard at Rikka.

”Well, you see~, up until now, we really haven’t had a single volunteer,” Rikka stammered, scratching the back of her head and laughing awkwardly to cover the mistake. “And even when we did, they were former Demiurge members with serious problems, so we had to reject them on our end. This was our very first normal applicant, so we figured we’d leave the final decision fully up to your side! Ahaha…”

”A normal applicant…?” Fumioka muttered, pressing his fingers against his brow, locked in deep internal turmoil.

Sensing that the atmosphere was growing distinctly unfavorable, Jinnai frantically scrambled to open his mouth.

”But seriously, I am so happy to finally meet the famous Kibakura-senpai in person!” Jinnai said with wild energy. “Sugimoto-san told me that you’re not just very strong and scary, but your grades are actually great too! I always pictured Kibakura-senpai as some pure muscle-brain ape-man who probably couldn’t understand numbers higher than three, so finding out you can solve polynomial factoring with that face is seriously insane! I respect you so much!”

Without uttering a single word, Kibakura reached out and clamped his hand firmly over Jinnai’s face.

”Does this piece of work have guts, or is he just completely missing a few screws?” Kibakura asked, looking down at Rikka while ignoring Jinnai’s muffled screams of agony.

”He’s just slightly prone to misreading the room sideways, but I’m sure he doesn’t mean any actual harm,” Rikka pleaded nervously. “Just… try not to permanently crush his head, okay?”

”Come to think of it, you mentioned you were exiled?” Kibakura asked, releasing his grip on Jinnai’s face to demand answers. “Why on earth did something like that happen?”

”Hah… hah… Yes,” Jinnai panted heavily, catching his breath. “That… that was a tragedy that occurred solely because my Gift is simply far too powerful.”

”A Gift, you say?” Fumioka raised an eyebrow.

”Yes! Behold my Gift, the Flying Endeavor Heartbeat Shaker Prominence 2000!” Jinnai announced, violently shredding an electric chord—Gyuuueeeeinn!—as a thick, roaring pillar of fire erupted directly from the tip of the guitar’s headstock.

 ”Ohh?!” Kibakura grunted.

”Whoa?! Watch out!” Rikka shrieked, jumping backward.

Roaring and crackling aggressively, the flame extended a full meter outward from the tip of the electric guitar.

”This beauty features a built-in amplifier, allowing me to unleash raging flames the exact same instant I blast out sound waves,” Jinnai boasted proudly. “I can even extend the flame further to strike distant targets. The only issue is that when there’s too much distance, maintaining accuracy becomes rather difficult, meaning I occasionally end up incinerating my own allies. Just the other day, I clocked my fourth consecutive incident of friendly fire, which finally resulted in my official exile from the party.”

”They actually tolerated it three whole times before snapping?” Fumioka observed dry status. “What an very patient bunch of companions. If it were up to me, you’d be fired on the very first offense.”

”Anyway, turn that fire off right this instant! If you set this building ablaze, it’ll be a complete disaster!” Rikka snapped, losing her patience.

”Ah, my apologies,” Jinnai stammered, hurriedly extinguishing the flames.

”Alright, excellent. You’re hired,” Kibakura declared with a grin. “I’ll even personally induct you into My (Uchi no) party, Jinnai.”

 ”Are you serious?!” Jinnai beamed.

”Hey! Are you out of your mind, Kibakura?!” Fumioka yelled out in utter shock.

”Yeah. All you need to do to liven up the atmosphere is follow behind me while shredding on your guitar and shooting fire,” Kibakura commanded coolly. “Don’t you dare think about actually attacking anything under any circumstance.”

”Yes, sir! You can completely count on me!” Jinnai saluted.

”Ah… Come to think of it, you always did completely adore that one movie,” Fumioka sighed as he suddenly recalled a film that Kibakura used to watch on absolute repeat.

It was a movie set in a near-future wasteland ruined by nuclear warfare, and Kibakura’s absolute favorite character had been a wild, post-apocalyptic extra whose sole purpose in life was to frantically shred away on a flame-throwing guitar atop a roaring trailer chasing down the protagonists.

”With this, I might have just taken a huge leap closer toward creating my ultimate ideal party,” Kibakura stated proudly.

”Seriously, what on earth are you even aiming to become?” Fumioka asked, completely unable to resist.
