Chapter 150 Interlude: Farewell Vice President Sogahara

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Girls in gym tops and bloomers chatted happily while stretching for warm-ups. Ah, morning practice really washes the soul clean.

”Good morning, everyone!” Amahara-senpai announced, clearing the fence in one jump with a wooden practice staff in hand.

About two weeks had passed since the suppression battle. Amahara-senpai had leased the top floor suite of the C-Building girls’ dorm, sharing it with Ukita-senpai, Kijima-senpai, and Sugimoto-san, and made it a habit to join our morning training.

The corner rooms along the hallway belonged to Higurashi and Hiromi, but getting to Amahara-senpai’s elongated suite required going down a flight of stairs and climbing another—honestly, crossing the rooftop was faster.

”Good morning, Amahara-senpai!” the girls called out, with Hiromi adding a casual wave and a “Morning, Ama-chi senpai!”

”Something has been puzzling me for a while,” Amahara-senpai began, her long hair tied back in a sleek ponytail, wearing standard long track pants with her gym top. “Why is everyone wearing bloomers?”

”Because Takeru-kun is absolutely obsessed with bloomers,” Hiromi answered bluntly without hesitation.

”I see… So Takeru-kun fancies this kind of clothing,” Amahara-senpai noted softly.

”N-No! Wait! I didn’t order them to wear this—they all chose to do it on their own!” I stammered, completely losing my composure under her intense, unblinking gaze.

”They sell them at the uniform shop in the special zone. Want to buy a pair too, Ama-chi senpai?” Hiromi asked with a casual shrug.

”Yes. I will purchase them,” Amahara-senpai replied firmly.

Oh, wow! I actually get to see Amahara-senpai in bloomers?! The early bird gets the worm, but the early nerd gets absolute paradise!

Morning practice was an absolute necessity. Last night Chikako and Fujisaki had subjected me to a fierce onslaught, and this morning Tomoko had jolted me awake with fellatio, but forcing myself out of bed was entirely worth it. Everyone had grown completely accustomed to the form drills and mock battles, executing them with seamless efficiency after our grueling special training on the trash floor.

”You guys have gotten way too strong. I can’t win a single match anymore!” Chikako lamented, lowering her weapon.

”You’ve grown plenty strong yourself,” Fujisaki countered while parrying a stray thrust. “Lately I can really feel the advantage you gain from a spear’s reach.”

With everyone else getting proficient with spears, Chikako’s disadvantage as a sword-user was becoming obvious. Fujisaki was a Level 20 powerhouse and our undisputed top performer, yet even she spent every day integrating the sweeping motions of the Phoenix Temple Spear Technique into her mock battles, visibly sharpening her skills. Amahara-senpai had also improved by leaps and bounds, possessing an incredibly solid athletic foundation from various sports clubs she’d participated in up until junior high.

Since everyone had completely distinct combat styles, these mock battles served as phenomenal practice. Fujisaki was excellent at holding back just enough to keep things challenging, helping everyone get used to fighting within a sword’s effective striking distance, and with our numbers grown we could now introduce two-on-one scenarios.

After practice, Amahara-senpai vaulted back over the fence and headed to her room—my room, technically—while the girls scrambled to get ready, showering in the large communal bath as I washed the sweat off alone in my private bathroom.

Tomoko and Kanon managed to prepare breakfast during training, with Tomoko’s experience helping at her family’s soba shop making her adept at cooking for large groups. Lately Valeria had even started helping set the tables—she used to lock herself away playing video games, but after returning from the trash floor she actually started contributing.

I tried to lock her into a contract stipulating no more than three hours of gaming per day, but she had the nerve to sass me with “Please provide proper compensation for the terms of the contract,” so a swift smack upside the head snapped her out of it. We settled on a verbal promise instead, and Valeria kept her word perfectly.

After breakfast we all headed to school together, taking the high-density elevator to the first floor where Amahara-senpai and the other Student Council members were already waiting—except Togamine, who lived in the B-Building girls’ dorm. Meeting up here to walk as a massive group had become a familiar routine.

These days I spent practically all my time sleeping over at the girls’ dorm, rarely returning to my actual room. Ever since Shitone-senpai infiltrated it, the mere thought of going there alone terrified me. I’d only gone back a handful of times with an escort, just to swap out the chilled drinks in the refrigerator.

”As I thought, heading to school properly really puts one in a good mood,” Amahara-senpai murmured with a touch of nostalgia. She used to barely step outside the Student Council building, but now she could wander freely and even attended classes sometimes.

”Karen-senpai, you used to live in the A-Building girls’ dorm top-floor suite, didn’t you? Is the C-Building causing any inconveniences?” Himeno asked.

”It is a bit more cramped than before, but living with everyone is genuinely delightful, and above all, it is incredibly convenient being so close to the Student Council building,” Amahara-senpai explained.

”And above all, it’s because Tsuchimiya-kun happens to be right nearby, isn’t it?” Shoko teased with a sly grin, making Amahara-senpai’s face flush crimson.

So the special suites in the C-Building are considered cramped, huh? Originally they were reserved strictly for students who contributed astronomical donations, and the A-Building dorm was considered the highest tier—like an aristocrat’s mansion. Come to think of it, Amahara-senpai had mentioned her family was deeply tied to the financial and political sectors, making me wonder from a completely detached perspective whether someone like her should even associate with a guy like me.

As we rounded the back of the Student Council building and entered the courtyard, Sogahara-senpai was already standing there waiting.

”Hey there! Good morning, everyone,” he called out cheerfully.

”Morning, Takashi,” Kijima-senpai replied with a soft smile.

”Good morning, Sogahara-senpai. Are you here to greet Kijima-senpai today?” I asked as we approached.

”Actually, no. Let’s have a quick match, Tsuchimiya-kun!” he declared, holding up his shinai with a bright, enthusiastic grin.

”Wait, right now?!” I was completely taken aback.

Sogahara-senpai had been in an incredibly good mood lately—his energy levels were through the roof—and had been trying to invite me to spar for a while, but I’d been brushing him off since I’m terrible at dealing with hyperactive people. It looked like he’d finally resorted to ambushing me.

”Yes! At this hour there’s nobody around to see us. Just a single point match!” he urged, shifting his stance.

”I’m so sorry, Tsuchimiya-kun,” Kijima-senpai sighed, bowing her head with a conflicted expression. “Takashi has just had an absolute excess of motivation lately. Please, just humiliate him for a brief moment.”

”Understood,” I nodded, yielding to her request. If Kijima-senpai was going to bow her head with that troubled face, I didn’t really have a choice. Besides, a sparring match with Sogahara-senpai was guaranteed to yield valuable experience—under normal circumstances I should be the one begging for it.

Hardly any students came through this area at this time of day, and the B-Building schoolhouse stood before us without a single soul on the balconies. The moment I pulled my wooden stick from Storage, everyone instinctively stepped back to give us space.

”Tsuchimiya-senpai, do your best!” Himeno cheered from the sidelines, and everyone began shouting encouragement.

”Let me see the fruits of your desperate training, Tsuchimiya-kun!” Sogahara-senpai raised his shinai into a combat stance, looking absolutely thrilled. I still didn’t think I could actually beat him, but I at least needed to show him some of what I was capable of.

Full combat style—no formal bows. The moment I took my stance and focused my energy, he closed the distance instantly. That was the opening signal.

A quick probing attack to keep him at bay, but he deflected it seamlessly. As he lunged forward to close the gap, I leaped backward, unleashing three consecutive thrusts before my feet touched the ground. Recognizing the danger, he abandoned his frontal breakthrough and cut sharply to the side—or so I thought, before he suddenly exploded with speed and dove straight into my guard.

Deflecting my counter-thrust, his shinai came slicing downward in a heavy overhead strike. I evaded the blow by a hair’s breadth and spun my body around, thrusting the butt end of my staff toward him, but he evaded with a microscopic, fluid shift of weight. His balance hadn’t been disrupted in the slightest.

Without halting my momentum, I kept my body and staff rotating, using the butt end to disrupt the upward trajectory of his blade while sweeping the tip across to slash at his front, but he refused to force a reckless trade and pulled back out of range, letting the tip graze past him by millimeters. I executed a desperate backstep to reset the distance, taking one more step back to finally catch my breath.

”You have accumulated an incredible amount of practical combat experience,” Sogahara-senpai remarked, lowering his stance slightly. “Your psychological warfare has risen by several standard deviations.”

If this had been the old me before special training, he would have taken a flawless point within two seconds. He hadn’t even broken a sweat, his breathing completely undisturbed.

”That was amazing! Take a point from him right now!” Himeno squealed excitedly from the sidelines. From an outside perspective it probably looked like I was fighting on par with him, but the reality was grim. His stability was utterly terrifying—the result of a flawless, unshakeable foundation. Fujisaki possesses absurd physical ability due to her high level but leaves plenty of openings; this man leaves absolutely none. He simply will not crumble.

”You hear them, Takashi,” Kijima-senpai called out, amplifying the tension. “Aren’t you supposed to be the Academy’s strongest? You need to show them that victory is still miles out of reach.”

”But there are already rumors that Tsuchimiya-senpai is the actual strongest, you know? If he goes completely all-out, absolutely nobody can beat him,” Himeno fired back argumentatively.

They were aggressively stoking the competitive fire from the sidelines, and the sheer pressure was immense. I desperately wished they would stop.

”Takashi, if you fail to win, your punishment is locked in for tonight. Full bondage play. You should have plenty of breathing room, right?” Kijima-senpai threatened with a sweet, dangerous smile.

”?! W-W-Wait just a moment, Shiori! In the world of martial arts, there is an ancient proverb that states a spear possesses three times the inherent tactical advantage of a sword…!” Sogahara-senpai yelled, completely losing his mind.

With my current level of strength, if we fought ten times I might secure a single point through sheer luck. But was Kijima-senpai’s bondage play really so terrifying that it makes a literal master martial artist shake in his boots? I had some personal experience with her skills, and the sense of absolute despair was admittedly off the charts.

”Tsuchimiya-senpai won’t lose! If he loses, he gets bondage play too! Easy victory, right?!” Himeno shouted, completely escalating the stakes.

”Eh?! W-W-Wait a minute! Sogahara-senpai is a literal master! Just because I did three months of intensive training doesn’t mean—” I cried out in panic. Why the hell am I getting dragged into this?!

”That’s just unfair to Tsuchimiya-kun,” Kijima-senpai countered, folding her arms. “Takashi has been swinging a blade consistently since he was a small child.”

”Tsuchimiya-senpai is an absolute genius! He won’t lose!” Himeno insisted stubbornly. The expectations placed on me were way too damn high.

The exact moment we both turned back to face each other, my eyes locked directly with Vice President Sogahara’s. It wasn’t some supernatural telepathic ability—it was pure eye contact—but I knew with absolute certainty that our motives had just aligned perfectly.

”Here I come! Tsuchimiya-kun!” he roared, launching forward with a fierce, heavy frontal assault. I deflected the merciless strike using the butt end of my staff and snapped the tip forward in a sharp counter-thrust, which he evaded through sheer, superhuman reflexes. I absorbed his incoming counter-strike and returned fire with a blistering sequence of alternating left-and-right strikes using both ends of my weapon—an attack sequence that could serve as a definitive finisher against anyone else—but Sogahara-senpai absorbed the impacts with terrifying composure.

The moment I went for the next right strike, his entire movement pattern shifted. I pulled my right side back and snapped the staff upright, barely managing to brace against a massive, crushing blow. Even a high-speed barrage gets read in an instant if the rhythm becomes predictable.

He pulled his shinai back, sinking his center of gravity deep for an even heavier follow-up strike, but the chambering motion was just a fraction too wide. A microscopic, split-second opening that the old me would have missed entirely.

 Right here.

I drove the tip of my staff downward with raw, brutal force, forcefully jamming it into that single frozen instant. His shinai pressed firmly against the side of my neck, and the tip of my wooden staff hovered stationary right in front of his throat.

”Magnificent, Tsuchimiya-kun,” Sogahara-senpai panted, a wide smirk breaking across his face.

”As expected of you, Sogahara-senpai,” I replied, matching his grin.

The corners of our mouths pulled upward into a synchronized, knowing smirk. Slowly retracting our weapons, we stepped back, straightened our postures, and bowed deeply to one another at the exact same time.

”We shall call this a draw,” he announced aloud to the crowd.

”Agreed. We will settle the score another day,” I replied smoothly.

Up until the final microsecond we had been fighting with genuine, lethal intensity, but absolutely nobody watching would ever realize the conclusion had been completely rigged.

”Takashi, since you failed to secure a victory, your punishment stands for tonight,” Kijima-senpai reminded him coldly.

”Wh-Why?! W-Wait up! Shiori!” Sogahara-senpai wailed in a sudden breakdown of broken English. I could have sworn he was born and raised in Japan and couldn’t speak a lick of anything else.

”Well, that means Tsuchimiya-senpai gets punished too, right?” Himeno noted with a dangerous sparkle in her eyes.

”Eh?!” I gasped as a hand rested firmly on my shoulder. I turned around to find Himeno staring back at me with a bizarrely ecstatic smile.

”W-W-Wait a minute! This isn’t a punishment situation—it’s an absolute celebration!” I argued desperately. “Think about the insane progress I just showed! Before my special training I couldn’t even touch the guy! I’m the type of person who thrives on positive reinforcement!”

”Hmm… I suppose that’s true. Fine, we’ll skip the punishment for this round,” Himeno relented, sighing softly.

 —

Amahara-senpai experiences an offhand comment that forces a comedic reaction, illustrating the delicate, teasing interpersonal dynamics between the cast. Sogahara-senpai’s competitive streak, egged on by Kijima-senpai’s threatening punishment, results in a choreographed draw between him and Takeru.
