Chapter 421 Shela’s Odd Behavior

The Underworld had sci-fi technology fused with magic, but its overall look still leaned toward medieval Europe. And not just Shela—most young female Devils didn’t really have the concept of underwear.
So when Aki teased her about it, Shela didn’t feel embarrassed at all. Instead, she shot back with disdain: “So what? I’ve got magic covering everything anyway. Who knew you’d actually take up permanent residence in there?”
Aki could have traveled on his own, of course. But a cute cat wandering alone drew a lot of attention—and if they ran into Devils who loved animals, dealing with them would be a hassle. Hiding in Shela’s cleavage with just his feline head poking out made things much simpler. Even if people got curious, staring at that spot on a loli was awkward enough to make them look away. After all, no one knew Shela’s real age—and staring too long at a little girl’s chest was social suicide.
Bantering back and forth, the two of them rapidly closed in on Ramsus’s estate. To stay under the radar, Shela avoided long-range teleportation, which would’ve drawn too much attention. Instead, she used quick, short-distance spatial jumps, blinking through the city in bursts of purple light.
A purple Spatial Magic circle materialized on the wall, and Shela—dragging a noticeably heavy chest with her—plunged straight through. The next instant, a similar magic circle shimmered into existence on the wall of Naruse Mio’s bedroom, and Aki and Shela tumbled out together.
Naruse Mio and Lucia had just finished their baths. Spotting Aki and Shela’s return, they immediately rushed over, beaming.
”Auntie Shela! And Aki! How’d the reconnaissance go?” Naruse Mio asked.
The novelty of the Underworld had worn off, and Naruse Mio hadn’t found any traces of her parents’ lives here. The long-legged, voluptuous redhead in her schoolgirl uniform was starting to feel homesick.
”Not that fast,” Aki replied, leaping from Shela’s collar and landing on Naruse Mio’s chest—her round breasts barely held by her pajamas. His pink paw pads kneaded the soft surface, sending a wave of heat through the girl’s body, before he found the most comfortable spot and settled down. “The stuff on my end is minor—we can handle that later. It’s your situation I’m worried about.”
Shela shot Aki a playful, annoyed look at his “new toy, old toy” behavior, then plopped down beside Lucia, swinging her pale, delicate little feet.
”Go ahead and chat. I’m gonna soak in the bath—been running around all day, my feet are killing me,” Shela said.
Her feet weren’t actually sore—she probably hadn’t walked a full kilometer the entire trip. She just wanted to complain to Aki. Petty, really—a subconscious tantrum because she felt “abandoned” after Aki had moved on so quickly.
None of the others read that deeply into it. As Lucia led Shela off to bathe, Naruse Mio and Aki started discussing tomorrow’s meeting with Leohart.
”That eager, huh?” Aki mused. He thought it was a bit early too—but with Leohart alone now, without Liala’s backing, it made sense. The young Demon King was probably having a rough time dealing with the old geezers in the Cardinal Council.
Before, Leohart could use his Demon King authority to keep them in check. But with Naruse Mio’s arrival—a potential throne rival—the Cardinal Council could easily use that as leverage. He wouldn’t have an easy time handling it.
”It’s okay. Don’t overthink it. I’ll come with you tomorrow,” Aki said.
Still in his black cat form, Aki continued: “No point stressing about it now. It all comes down to what His Majesty thinks.”
He hated the old fossils in the Cardinal Council. But the young Demon King he’d never met? He wasn’t necessarily on Leohart’s side. Sure, allying with Leohart against the Council and old-guard devils would make things easier. But Aki could handle them on his own. If Leohart laid a finger on Naruse Mio tomorrow, Aki would help the Council take him down first—then deal with the bastards himself.
With business settled, the hour was growing late. Naruse Mio looked at Aki with a faint blush creeping across her cheeks. “Aki… are you going to stay like that tonight too?” she asked.
”Mm…” Aki replied absently. “This form’s surprisingly comfortable. The longer I use it, the less I want to change back.”
As he spoke, his sapphire-blue cat eyes happened to catch the conflicted flush on Naruse Mio’s pretty face. As a seasoned veteran of such matters, he immediately understood.
”Mio… are you in the mood?” Aki asked.
”Not at all! It’s just… it’s just…” Naruse Mio stammered.
Classic tsundere. She “just” and “just”-ed but couldn’t come up with a good excuse.
Aki found it hilarious. “We’ve dual-cultivated so many times—what’s there to be shy about?” he teased.
And it wasn’t just ordinary dual cultivation either. With Maria, that horny little succubus loli, around, they’d pretty much tried every variation imaginable. Funny how Naruse Mio got more shy when they were alone.
Just then, Shela and Lucia returned, wrapped in oversized bath towels. The silver-haired succubus onee-san—Lucia—chimed in with her own teasing: “Mio-sama, with Maria away, if you’re feeling too shy… I could always lend a hand, you know~”
Shela, of course, couldn’t resist stirring the pot. “Oh my~ I was planning for the three of us to sleep together tonight, but I suppose I’ll just take the next room~”
Ramsus knew Shela was visiting and had prepared a room for her—though Naruse Mio and Lucia were sharing one. Compared to his niece’s quarters, Shela’s room was far more modest. Aki even suspected Ramsus’s own suite wasn’t this nice.
Facing the three of them ganging up on her, Naruse Mio threw her hands up in surrender. “It’s way too early to sleep! And there’s no signal on my phone…” she complained.
For a moment, Aki and the others were stunned—then it clicked. Yes, the Underworld had all sorts of magic-infused technology, but its lifestyle still leaned heavily toward “work at dawn, rest at dusk.” After dark, Devils didn’t have much to do except… well, make more Devils.
Aki thought back to the sci-fi-style coliseums and buildings he’d glimpsed along the way—then remembered Devils in coarse linen clothes doing primitive labor on the streets. The contrast was jarring. He understood it, but it still felt off.
”Whatever—you guys do what you want. I’m heading back to my room,” Shela said.
Shela yawned lazily, slipped her feet into cute slippers, and stepped into a Spatial Magic circle that opened before her. Never mind that her room was right next door—she couldn’t be bothered to walk a few steps. Technology makes you lazy, and so does magic.
At the very last moment before the magic circle vanished, Aki jumped in after her, tossing over his shoulder: “I’m gonna hash out tomorrow’s plan with Shela.”
Lucia had already briefed Shela on the audience with Demon King Leohart, but Aki needed to discuss the details with her more thoroughly. There was another reason he’d followed her—if he’d stayed in Naruse Mio’s room overnight, his cat form wouldn’t have lasted even 24 hours. Exposure wasn’t a big worry at Ramsus’s estate—but shifting back to human form for dual cultivation would’ve been a total loss of face.
Aki’s intentions were good. But he really, really shouldn’t have followed Shela to her room.
This former Succubus Queen—who was simultaneously loli and onee-san—knew way more than Lucia or Naruse Mio did.
After Aki and Shela left, the room fell silent. Lucia and Naruse Mio exchanged glances for a moment, then obediently climbed into bed. As for what might happen between Aki and Shela… Naruse Mio didn’t give it much thought, and Lucia didn’t care one bit. For one thing, Aki was still in cat form—dual cultivation would be impossible. And even if something did happen, it didn’t seem like a big deal. Greyfia had already boarded that ship—what was one former Succubus Queen without a husband?
Shela looked at the black cat following her with mild curiosity. “You didn’t stay to help Mio and Lucia power up—what are you doing in my room?” she asked.
”It’s not like it’s their first time dual cultivating. How much can they improve in one night?” Aki replied casually, glancing around the noticeably more ordinary guest room.
He didn’t mean anything by it—but she heard everything.
If it’s not the first time, the gains are small… which means the first time, even just one night, makes a huge difference.
The former Succubus Queen, suppressing her instincts after a full 24 hours of close contact with Aki, found her thoughts drifting in that direction. Her amethyst eyes misted over as pure Succubus energy swirled within her body.
Her wet nose twitched—transformed into a nekomata, Aki’s sense of smell was massively enhanced. Not only could he distinguish all kinds of scents, he could even detect Mana signatures. His blue cat eyes followed the trail of that intriguing scent—and met Shela’s flushed face.
With her face this close, Aki could feel the warm breath from Shela’s lips. There was a faint fragrance—with something else laced through it. Something alluring.
He was no virgin. He might not be a Casanova, but he could easily recognize what Shela’s state meant. His soft cat body stiffened for an instant—then relaxed.
He wasn’t sure why the change had happened—but at this point, he wasn’t about to back down. Odd, really. When he’d made moves on her before, this loli housewife had rejected him. This time, he hadn’t done anything—maybe just taken advantage of his cat form a little. Which made perfect sense. In black cat mode, it was incredibly easy to enjoy all sorts of perks. What girl can resist an adorable kitty? And what bad intentions could a nekomata possibly have?
Just as Aki was processing this, Shela scooped him up—still in cat form—and pressed him tight against her chest. With a flick of her slender, pale hand, pink Mana flooded the entire room. The energy, suffused with Succubus traits, made their bodies grow even hotter. At the same time, that same sultry Mana formed a barrier, sealing off the room from outside perception.
