Volume 8 Chapter 16 Sub-Event: District 13 High School Students Visit Shin-2 High School

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

As early summer arrived, the first exchange event was set to happen.

The event involved rating each other’s schools, ranking them, and publishing the results in the school newspaper.

It was a school tour meant to help the high schools understand each other.

When it comes to a topic like this, naturally, the focus is on Sorcerer High School.

For plain-folk, National High School is a place they can only enter during the school festival. During the festival, many rooms are off-limits and magical devices aren’t running. I can understand why plain-folk would want to explore sorcery facilities.

However, there’s no guarantee we’ll get the information we want.

Some info can’t be disclosed due to secrecy. Other info can be made public—the person in charge decides. That decision rests with the central Ministry of Sorcery. No way we’d get a quick reply by throwing “trivial” questions at an already overloaded central agency. Since we didn’t know when we’d hear back, District 13 students decided to interview Shin-2 High School students first.

After school, a group of six students—four sophomores and two juniors—visited Shin-2 High School.

District 13 High School and Shin-2 are about a 15-minute walk apart. Looking at Shin-2’s school building again, it looks stylish and new.

 ”Welcome, members of Sorcerer.”

In front of the school gate, some second-year students were waiting for us.

They were the second-year boys we’d met the other day. A few girls among them we hadn’t seen before. Apparently, they were second-year members of the student council. Today, no teacher chaperoned us. The idea was to skip formalities and just relax and mingle as students.

As we talked in front of the school gate, curious students gathered around us. They watched from a distance. We didn’t want to get in their way. So we had him give us a tour of the whole school first. We’d ask questions along the way if something caught our attention.

The biggest difference from District 13 High School is, first and foremost, the beauty of the school building. The building, rebuilt a few years ago, is vibrant and stylish overall.

Not only the classroom furniture—desks and chairs—but also the layout and design of the school buildings differ from District 13’s. Built over 50 years ago, District 13 High School feels outdated in every way. In contrast to National High School—patched up with quick repairs where things are falling apart—this new school is modern. No wonder it attracts so many applicants.

After a general tour of the shared facilities, we moved on to club and committee activities.

Miyoshi, our main guide, called on each club’s representative—acting as the club federation rep—to take turns giving us a tour.

There’s little difference between high schools when it comes to cultural clubs.

While facility quality and member numbers vary—since each school focuses on different clubs, like drama or brass band—the atmosphere among students and their activities stay largely the same.

I also peeked inside the Sorcery Engineering Research Society room, which Risa’s older sister, Momono-san, used to belong to.

When I spotted Masuki-san, whom I met last year, and gave him a quick wave, he noticed me and waved back.

In contrast, high schools differ a lot when it comes to some sports clubs.

Clubs where physical build matters—like sumo, judo, and rugby—tend to have many students with higher body fat percentages. There’s little variation between high schools there. Members with similar physiques work up a sweat together. These are the flagship sports clubs—the very picture of “athletic club”—and star players, both male and female, are popular. These are where the cool guys and girls belong.

On the other hand, some sports are different. These are sports where flying, jumping, and explosive power matter. For plain-folk who can’t use sorcery, their muscles move their bodies, and fat is just dead weight. Students in sports clubs where fat is unnecessary are all lean and trim. Appearance-wise, this doesn’t match this world’s beauty standards.

Since playing a sport gives an excuse for their scrawny look, many “casual” students—who aren’t serious about the sport but exercise for stamina—often join these clubs.

 A prime example is Ishimoto.

As I listened to instructions on the field, Ishimoto, a member of the track and field club, noticed me during training and came over.

 ”Hey, Ishimoto, you’re working hard.”

”Tatemiya-kun… Hello. What are you doing here?”

”It’s an exchange event between high schools. I came to check it out.”

 ”Oh, really?”

As we made small talk, a girl with an impressive build called out Ishimoto’s name from a distance.

”Sorry, the Shooting Club President called me. I have to go.”

”No, I’m the one who should apologize for taking your time.”

 ”It’s fine. See you later.”

Ishimoto ran back at a brisk pace.

The one who called him said he was the Shooting Club President. With that build, he’s probably a thrower. Among the track and field members, he’s good-looking and popular—it’s a flagship event.

As I walked with everyone to the pool, I spotted a group of slender students in swimsuits.

This is it—the view I was waiting for. A group of boys and girls with lean, toned bodies—something you’d never see at District 13 High School. Amazing.

Just as I was lost in thought, a guy in a swimsuit spoke to me.

 ”Huh… you haven’t changed a bit, Tatemiya-senpai.”

 ”Oh, you’re…!?”

I put on a little act, but I recognized him.

He was a guy from junior high—one grade below me—who was in the same swimming club. His name was Hiiro Komoto.

”Hey, what are you doing here?”

”Isn’t that a bit harsh as the first thing to say to a junior you haven’t seen in a while?”

”Oh, you’re right. Sorry. Anyway… did you get into the second-year class?”

”It’s the same curriculum, isn’t it? If I’d really tried, it’d be a breeze.”

His grades in junior high were terrible—he definitely wasn’t the type to get into the second-year program.

”Did you get in on a swimming recommendation or something?”

”No. I studied hard and got in through the regular entrance exam.”

 ”I can’t believe it…”

This guy holds the county record in the 100-meter freestyle.

To be honest, under “no sorcery” rules, he’s faster than me. I thought that meant he had to be a total idiot in return….

I thought he’d go to a private high school on a scholarship.

”I got some serious coaching from the Hikasa sisters. I barely scraped by on the entrance exam.”

 ”What!?”

What brought me and this Komoto idiot closer were the Hikasa sisters, who were in the same swimming club.

The older sister was in the same class as me, and the younger sister was in the same class as Komoto—both plain-folk types. The older sister, in particular, had a figure that plain-folk fetishists would drool over: curvy with big b**bs but a slim waist. If I say she held her own standing next to Chifumi, you’ll get an idea of how stunning she was.

For me, having just started junior high, it’s no exaggeration to say my older sister Hikasa was the reason I endured the grueling swimming club practices. Then, a year later, I noticed something. A first-year student who, like me, was casting lecherous glances her way. That guy was Komoto.

At first, I tried to get rid of Komoto. But I had to admit he was a better swimmer than me even back then. As we clashed, we realized we were kindred spirits and eventually hit it off. We spent our club days pretending to be serious swimmers while secretly ogling girls in their swimsuits.

In the end, I never really got to know Hikasa (older sister) well before I graduated. Not that I lacked chances to talk to her about non-business stuff. But as a Tsuyo-Osu (Strong-Male), if I actively approached a “plain-folk,” it could easily turn into “Tsuyo-hara” (harassment by Strong-Males or Strong-Females against ordinary people). “Whip and run,” no touching. Just looking at her in that tight, wet swimsuit was more than enough.

…Sorry. Just kidding. Truth is, I was too much of a wimp to actually talk to them. With Chifumi and Manaka around, I couldn’t risk doing anything stupid.

Komoto understood my situation. Under an unspoken agreement not to cut in line, as far as I know, he wasn’t close with the Hikasa sisters.

”Huh… I’m not a sorcerer, you know. I approached her with sincerity.”

”What? You… were you betraying me?”

”Please don’t say such slanderous things. There’s no way I’d betray you, senpai. I started making my move a year ago. Through Hikasa (younger sister), I asked Hikasa (older sister) to tutor me. When I told her how eager I was to get into the second-year class, she gladly agreed to be my private tutor.”

 ”I see.”

A senior of the opposite s*x as a private tutor—what an incredibly enviable situation. Komoto’s story continued.

”I made a promise with her that we’d start dating if I passed the entrance exam. I worked my absolute hardest, and that’s why I’m here now.”

”You really gave it your all. Congratulations.”

 ”Thank you.”

Wait a minute. What did he just say? Did he say “go out”?

”Y-you—going out with Ms. Hikasa? That’s way too presumptuous…! By the way, is she your older sister? Or younger sister? Which one?”

 ”Hehehe…”

 ”No way!?”

 ”She’s my older sister.”

With that Hikasa (older sister)!? …He’s got some nerve.

”…Senpai, you’re surprisingly calm. I thought you’d be more flustered, like a fan who just found out their idol got married.”

”I’ve already secured talent that surpasses Hikasa (older sister). I’m in no position to be acting so pathetically jealous!”

That’s right. I have close relationships with seven people, starting with Chifumi.

In fact, I’m in a position to get the upper hand on Komoto. Just as I was getting carried away and about to brag about my group members, I heard a voice behind me.

”Huh? That makes me feel a little lonely.”

 ”!!!”

 That voice—it can’t be…!?

When I turned around, I saw Hikasa (older sister) with a “my prank worked” look, and Hikasa (younger sister) looking utterly exasperated.

 ”Long time no see!”

”Oh, uh… long time no see.”

The older sister still had that carefree, cheerful vibe, but her curvy figure had gotten even more voluptuous. I see—she’s got some serious firepower. The kind of level where Chifumi might actually lose. An introvert like me might get blinded by her radiance.

If the older sister is the sun, the younger sister is the moon. Standing next to her is a girl with a face almost identical to hers.

 ”Senpai, it’s been a while.”

 ”You’re… Hikasa’s younger sister?”

”I’m so shocked…! Have you forgotten me!? Is that it…?”

”No, I haven’t forgotten you! It was just a lighthearted joke! …

 ”It’s been a while, Hikasa’s little sister.”

The little sister I knew—who was only a year younger than her older sister—looked nothing like her; she had a straight, uncurvy figure. But before I knew it, she’d developed a waistline… Her cool, quiet demeanor remained the same.

”Since we’re here, I asked Hiiro to set up a slightly elaborate reunion for us.”

”That surprised me. From now on, let me know about surprises in advance.”

”Well… that’s not really a surprise, is it?”

When I protested to my older sister, who gave me the V sign, my younger sister—with half-closed eyes—butted in. This feeling brought back memories, too.

I never had a proper conversation with my older sister. But for some reason, I’d built a casual, easygoing relationship with my younger sister. It must be because she didn’t give off any sexual vibes.

Over the past year, my younger sister has become more feminine. But I’ve also gained experience and learned how to treat women. We’re back to square one, interacting just like we did in junior high.

 ”Minoru, let’s move on!”

Ryota called out from a short distance away.

The other members, who had been listening to our conversation by the pool, seemed to want to go somewhere else. I guess it can’t be helped—I’m the only one having fun here.

”Got it. I’ll be right there.”

After calling back to Ryota, I told the other three I was leaving.

”Well then, I’ll head out now.”

”Senpai, let’s hang out sometime. I’ll get in touch.”

”Sure, feel free to reach out.”

 ”Goodbye.”

I waved to Komoto and the Hikasa sisters and made my exit.

The visiting group arrived at the gymnasium.

”There’s going to be a little welcome event here.”

Just as Miyoshi, who was showing us around, raised his hand, loud music suddenly started playing.

 ♪~♪~

To the beat of the music, a crowd of female students spills out from the side of the stage.

They’re all dressed as cheerleaders. Looks like they’re going to put on a cheerleading performance.

”Hey, everyone, clap! clap! go! victory!”

The group claps in response to the cheerleader’s call.

Everyone except me is really into it. Unfortunately, I’m not quite that hyped up.

The thing is, all the cheerleaders have bodies shaped like beer kegs. These girls—too heavy all over—move and dance vigorously.

By this world’s standards, they’re all cute. To me, though, they’re a group of active fat girls with high facial scores but questionable silhouettes. Overall, fear wins over cuteness.

I can’t be the only killjoy. This is the kind of thing you’ve got to participate in to enjoy. So I joined Ryota and the others with a positive attitude, responding to their chants.

For several minutes straight, I cheered on this mass of muscle as they kept up sharp, precise moves. Looks aside, their technique, expressions, and ability to get the crowd going are top-notch. The way they hold a perfect Y-balance with thick legs without a single wobble is amazing.

”Our cheerleading squad is famous. We’ve got the most training and the highest skill level around here.”

 ”That’s amazing.”

 ”That’s my girlfriend over there.”

 ”Oh…”

Is he showing off his girlfriend?! The proud new second-year members and the District 13 students exchanging praise.

At that moment, everyone in the gym was united as one.

”Here comes the final big move—let’s go!”

A heap of bodies piled up, and a particularly massive female student climbed to the top.

She jumped off, spun around, and came crashing down.

A “meat net” was set up at the landing spot to cushion her fall. It absorbed the impact, and she landed on the floor, striking a perfect pose.

As everyone in the gym gave her enthusiastic applause, the cheerleading squad lined up, bowed, and disappeared off the side of the stage.

And so, our visit to Shin-2 High School came to an end.

Looking back on today… I sensed the differences between Sorcerer High School and plain-folk high school. Direct differences from sorcery, indirect differences, and differences in common sense—what you might call cultural differences.

Komoda and the others will write a serious report anyway. I’ll just chip in with a few talking points.

When I parted ways with Miyoshi and the others at the school gate, Komoda and I whispered and schemed about something.

As we headed toward the station, I asked him about it.

”He said when they come to visit us, we should treat them just like we did today.”

 ”Just like today…?”

”I think we should show off our awesome club activities. We’ll need to discuss it with the student council members.”

We’ll have to give them a proper tour in return.

I headed home while discussing with Komoda and the others what we should do.

• Risa – A curious humanities student (167cm, light brown semi-long hair, H-cup, black eyes) and the youngest Naruse sister. Playfully assertive and protective of Minoru’s group, this mid-guard sorcerer has no inherent magic but wields magic pistols and Hinoki’s power. When Asunaro takes control, her eyes turn red, enabling fire and lightning sorcery. She is also known to bake cookies for Tatemiya.

• Tatemiya – Tatemiya is the family name of Minoru, a pragmatic protagonist in a world with reversed beauty standards. He leads a strong-female harem with analytical detachment, treating interactions as transactions. Strained by Manaka abandoning Minoru, the family has tense ties with the Kugas. Associated with a symbolic residential gate, the name connects to Manaka’s father’s social circle.

Wielding a staff with flowing ice/water magic, she manages household admin and rearguard combat while secretly protecting him from the truth.

• Strong-Females – A social designation within the world’s hierarchy.

• Manaka – Manaka Kuga is an elegant, sharp-featured Shisei High student, authoritative circle leader, and strategist for the top-tier Kuga family’s Founding Strong-Females. Minoru’s refined yet direct childhood friend, she uses a short staff for spatial/air-shaping sorcery. Known for her aristocratic bearing and “-chan” honorific, she manages security, led a year-long deception, and orchestrated an exchange battle request.

• Minoru – The protagonist and narrator is a black-haired Demon reincarnated from Japan, standing 183cm with sharp eyes. Pragmatic yet internally hurt, this eldest Tatemiya son wrongly believed his childhood friends abandoned him. Serving as ‘master’ to a mixed female group, he uses inherent spatial manipulation sorcery to command a handgun and subjugated monsters like Pape in mid-guard combat.

• Ryota – Minoru’s loyal, outgoing best friend since middle school is a male science-track classmate, sorcerer, and Majin. A fat supremacist with a slightly anxious yet pragmatic demeanor, he assertively leads a ‘Strong-Female’ squad, gaining two Majo by his first year’s end. He enjoys skiing, trains at a shrine dungeon, uses the Nagase hideout, and shares casual banter with Minoru.

• Komoda – An eccentric, polite male sorcerer and leader of the influential Komoda house, he is Minoru’s second-year classmate who speaks with casual familiarity. He commands a Sword-Hammer Cave squad, manages travel and intel, coordinates with Ryota’s group, and seeks an alliance with Minoru. Outperforming Shoji’s team, he cleared the surface layer by purifying a giant scaled earthworm boss.
