Zero-Mana-Boss 140

Chapter 140 The Magic Sword Is Complete

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The Magic Sword I’d commissioned from the dwarf princess, Eil – crafted exclusively for me – was finally finished.

Today was the day I’d pour my own mana directly into the blade and see what kind of effect it would produce. A momentous occasion.

Since I’d spared no expense in using four different high-grade Magic Materials, I couldn’t begin to imagine what effects it might manifest.

 Completely unknown territory.

I stepped into the mansion’s garden, where the early summer sky stretched endlessly, clear and blue. The sunlight was blinding. I made my way toward the cottage where the dwarves lived and the newly built forge beside it.

Behind me, my loyal personal maid, Lilia, and Liliana, who’d recently grown quite attached to me, came trotting along. Mina, Kuuko, and Lumia were with them too.

* * *

Outside the cottage, Eil and her five fellow dwarves greeted me with expressions that were both tense and proud.

”We have been awaiting your arrival, Xenos-sama. This is the piece we promised,” Eil spoke as she reverently presented a beautifully decorated sword with both hands.

”You’ve worked hard, Eil. I’m sincerely grateful for all your fine work,” I expressed my thanks as I took the sword from her.

A satisfying, solid weight settled in my hands. The blade was slightly longer than the one I’d always used. It had been perfectly adjusted to match my current height.

The decorations on the scabbard were not overly ornate – simple, yet elegant and powerfully dignified. And set into the center of the crossguard was a deep, pitch-black sapphire. I’d extracted it from four rare Magic Materials I’d collected at great personal risk, and all of their effects had been imbued into it.

The sapphire itself wasn’t particularly expensive. But because the Magic Materials infused into it were all legendary-class rarities, this specially enchanted Magic Stone had become a peerless treasure – priceless and one of a kind in the world.

That black, shining Magic Stone and the silver-white blade were seamlessly connected through complex Mana circuits.

Just how much of the Magic Stone’s unknown power would be imparted to the sword depended entirely on the skill of the blacksmiths – Eil and her team.

”Now then, Xenos-sama. Pour your mana into that blade with all your might. That will be the final step in completing it,” Eil instructed.

If I poured my mana into this blade, it would become my exclusive weapon – mine alone. Apparently, the final performance of this Magic Sword varied greatly depending on the quantity and quality of the mana of the one who first infused it. And the only person who could draw out its full potential was that single individual – the first to pour in their mana.

 ”Alright. Understood,” I replied.

I slowly drew the sword from its sheath. The polished blade caught the fierce sunlight of early summer, releasing a blinding gleam.

Then, gripping it tightly with both hands, I took my stance.

At last – the moment had come to complete this sword.

* * *

Every eye in the gallery was fixed on me and the sword I held. The five dwarf girls who’d forged it, and the ones who always followed me around – Lilia, Mina, Kuuko, Lumia, and Liliana.

As the girls watched with bated breath, I quietly and deeply poured my mana into the blade.

Magic had an upper limit on how much mana could be poured in at once. Of all the magic I could use, the spell that allowed me to pour the most mana in a single go was the “remote-detonation time bomb spell” – an improvement on that forbidden self-destruction magic.

The pitch-black sapphire embedded in the sword was already absorbing a massive amount of mana without hesitation. Enough to rival several Explosion Magic spells’ worth – enough to kill an ordinary person on the spot.

 *Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!*

The sword let out a low groan, as if it were alive.

”Amazing, Xenos-sama!” Eil’s voice rang out, barely containing her excitement as a master craftsman.

But apparently, it hadn’t reached its limit yet. The Magic Stone kept greedily absorbing my mana as though it intended to drain every last drop I had.

(…Uh, wait. Is this actually okay? What if it explodes or something? No – Eil made it. It couldn’t be that flawed. Right…?)

Despite my growing unease, I kept supplying mana.

”Um, Master… perhaps that’s enough for now?” Lilia spoke up, her voice tinged with fear.

”Hey, isn’t this getting dangerous? Are you sure this is fine? Honestly, I’d rather not die in some reckless experiment, thank you very much,” Liliana voiced the exact same concern I had.

 ”Nyaa, nyaa.” “Gao, gao.”

For some reason, only Kuuko and Lumia seemed to be enjoying the situation.

Before long, the silver gleam of the blade began to shift into a light of darkness. A black radiance – ominous, yet somehow divine.

 *Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!*

A significant amount of mana had been drained. If I kept this up, even I might run dry.

Just as I began to feel that unfamiliar concern – for the very first time –

At last, the greedy Magic Stone seemed satisfied. It had filled itself to the brim with my mana, refusing even a single drop more.

In that instant, I was struck by a strange sensation – as though my consciousness had suddenly snapped.

And then, the very next moment –

 My vision had completely shifted.

* * *

A strange feeling washed over me – like sinking into a deep, vivid dream. I was surrounded by white – an endless sea of white cloud.

 Everything was white.

But in the space directly before me, there was no mist – only a single, vivid image floating clearly, like a browser window I’d seen in my past life.

It showed the lavish indoor hall of the Royal Academy of Magic. Beneath glittering chandeliers, a crowd of elegantly dressed men and women danced gracefully.

 A ball.

(…Wait. Was this the graduation ceremony?)

I recognized several faces. Prince Liam, Elliot, Aldrick. They seemed to be the center of attention.

So this was my year’s graduation ceremony, then?

As I pondered that – suddenly, the peaceful scene was interrupted.

 A deafening roar.

And then, an assailant burst through the wall.

The one who ruthlessly shattered the tranquil party was that hopeless minor noble, Luca Dalton.

 Ashraf’s Magic Slave.

He let loose a barrage of high-powered offensive spells, cutting down the partygoers one after another. Aldrick and Elliot tried to intercept, but they were overwhelmed and beaten down by the sheer force of his power.

While they desperately bought time –

Prince Liam raised his hand to the heavens and summoned an angel of light.

Together with the angel, he fought back against Luca Dalton. After a brutal struggle, they barely managed to drive him off.

 But then –

In that moment, as the radiant angel dissolved into particles of light –

 Prince Liam died.

From behind the prince, Ashraf appeared without a sound, teleporting in to deliver the killing blow.

(…This is a vision of the future. So that means… one of this Magic Sword’s abilities is… future sight…)

Stunned, I could only watch the brutal death of someone I knew, frozen in shock.

 This was –

A future that had yet to come.

 Of that, I was certain.
