Chapter 74 Sword Dupont
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
That guy is surrounded by multiple men in black suits. The guy himself doesn’t have much magical power… but the men around him are all magicians. It’s more like they’re his private soldiers, handling rough jobs, rather than bodyguards.
”How many times have I helped with multiple extensions and even assisted with collections?! You’re pushing my patience to the limit!”
”Anyway, please leave. If you’re too persistent, I’ll call the police.”
”Hmph. A high-ranking executive of Dupont Corporation, and a brothel, which is on the verge of collapse… do you think the police would believe you or me? I have legitimacy and connections on my side.”
Hmm… that guy is from Dupont Corporation. Dupont Corporation is a new, cutting-edge chemical manufacturer born from an old wealthy family. You could even call them a major merchant.
In terms of the deal with Isabella, it’s clear that he’s getting the better end. It’s only natural that Isabella’s family would push for the marriage.
But, it’s surprising that someone like him has connections to this place. It seems that he was on good terms with Claire’s father, the former owner of White Lily Cafe.
”Now, I’ll investigate the interior as well!”
His voice echoes. Sigh… the reception room is a dead end. There’s no escape. I have no choice but to show my face, it seems.
”…Isabella’s fiancé candidate, huh? I can imagine what kind of guy he is, but I want to see for myself.”
Suppressing my magic, I put on a carefree expression.
I deliberately opened the reception room door loudly, making a big noise. Everyone in front of the door stopped moving, caught off guard by the unexpected development.
”Oh, come on. Don’t make a scene. This is in the middle of the city, you know?”
I showed my face, opened my mouth, and glared at the guy who had intruded. Claire’s eyes widened in surprise.
The guy’s private soldier stepped forward, his arm surrounded by magical power. He’s quite short-tempered.
”What’s with you?! You just burst in here!”
”…Wait.”
The guy stopped his soldier’s movement with a hand signal.
”I remember you. We met the other day, didn’t we?”
”Well, we didn’t exactly exchange greetings, did we? My name is Alba Valshe.”
”Ah, ah… My name is Sword Dupont. I’m a managing director of Dupont Corporation.”
Sword’s face showed an air of confidence, as if he was convinced of his superiority.
”What’s the point of you, Valshe, showing up here and causing a scene?”
”To put it bluntly, I also have a stake in this White Lily Cafe. If things get too out of hand, it’ll be a problem for me.”
This was a lie. I hadn’t invested a single penny in the White Lily Cafe yet. But by saying this, I could at least pretend to be a stakeholder.
”Hah…! You were like that back then too, but are you really that naive?”
”Naive is on your side. Is that connection with the police about that woman, perhaps?”
I didn’t mention Isabella’s name, and I just shrugged. From her personality, I couldn’t imagine her taking Sword’s side in this situation.
”What do you know, anyway? There’s a strong bond between me and her, a family connection.”
”Then call her out. Claire, contact the police.”
I said lightly, and Claire nodded. She was about to rush out, but one of the private soldiers stretched out his arm and caught her.
”Let me go, you fool!”
”Seriously, I don’t want to trouble you either. Whether you call the police or not, it won’t change anything, so why are you being so stubborn?”
”Ugh…!!”
Claire struggled as she was caught, but the private soldier didn’t budge. However, this made things easier for me.
”You’re the one who made the first move, after all.”
I said, and then I sprinted forward like the wind. Not at the level of Midnight Fangs, but with a decent amount of restraint. I jumped in front of the private soldier who had caught Claire.
”What the… You!!”
The private soldier finally sensed my magical power. He entered combat mode, but it was too late. I knocked one of the private soldiers flying with a single right straight punch.
”Gah…!!”
A few of his ribs must have broken. Sword was stunned by my incredibly fast movement.
”Wha, you…!”
”Don’t you remember? I’m a student at a magic academy, after all.”
The private soldiers seemed to have realized the difference in power. They gave Sword a troubled, naked glance. Sword looked around, then let out a frustrated cry.
”Damn it! Let’s back off!”
The private soldiers who were blown away were carried off, and Sword retreated from the White Lily Cafe. What an abrupt ending.
Once they were all gone, Claire let out a sigh of relief.
”…I apologize. I’ve caused you a lot of trouble.”
”No need to apologize. It’s not like we can fix things by talking about it here anyway.”
It was just a waste of time. Although I did want to meet Isabella’s fiancé candidate and get closer to her again. Now I have a chance to do just that.
I returned to the reception room with Claire and continued our conversation.
”By the way…what was that Sword guy saying earlier? Did he kill your father or something?”
”No, that’s not true.”
”What do you mean it’s not true…”
Good. I’m glad I didn’t beat up that Sword guy without knowing anything. I thought it would be a hassle, but it really would have been.
”He was a merchant who was close to my father, and he wouldn’t have the guts to assassinate him… The person I suspect is someone else.”
