Chapter 243 Living Legend

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

In the empire, there is a system that honors those who have made great achievements or possess powerful abilities by borrowing the names of great pioneers from the past.

For example, if you are a magician, you might be called “Pordhail,” and if you are an alchemist, you would be referred to as “Clifast.” There are no clear standards for receiving a famous name; it is up to the emperor to decide if someone has the achievements or power worthy of such a title. Because this decision relies on the emperor’s personal judgment, the ease of receiving an famous name changes over time. Many stories exist of individuals who could not receive an famous name during one emperor’s reign but were granted one as soon as a new emperor took the throne.

The current emperor, Glaceus Gradigium, is a perfect example of this. He has granted famous name to 8 individuals in the 15 years since he took the throne, even if they lacked some achievements, as long as he believed they had the power to deserve it. In contrast, his father, the previous emperor, would never grant an famous name if he felt there was even a slight deficiency.

He often said, “If you claim an famous name, you must show power and achievements equal to those of the great predecessors.” It is unreasonable to expect someone to match the legendary figures that have been talked about for hundreds of years, as such individuals do not appear easily.

Most people had given up, believing that no one in this era could receive an famous name. Then, a young magician appeared.

About 40 years ago, the situation in this world was quite chaotic.

The Theocracy and the Kingdom were in the midst of war, and while the empire was not directly involved in the fighting, it faced issues with trade and refugees from both countries. The 3 major nations were in a very unstable state.

Taking advantage of such gaps, the surrounding countries became more active in trying to seize land from the 3 major nations, and during this time, wars were breaking out all over the world.

To stop all the wars, they first needed to end the conflict between the Theocracy and the Kingdom, which was the root cause. However, the Theocracy was unwilling to back down for the sake of their doctrine, and the Kingdom was not willing to retreat for the sake of their profits.

They were now in a situation where the only way to stop the war was to intervene with military force and destroy one side. At that moment, good news reached the ears of the previous emperor. It was reported that a small country, taking advantage of the 3 major nations being worn out by war, had been repelled one after another by a single magician.

Moreover, the speed of this was extraordinary; in just 4 days, all enemy soldiers had been driven away from near the empire’s borders.

The previous emperor was astonished to hear how such a feat could be accomplished in such a short time.

When a country takes land from an enemy in war, they usually build fortresses to prevent the reclaimed land from being taken back. These fortresses were constructed using large magical tools known as magic weapons.

There was no need to transport actual building materials, and the magical barriers were far sturdier than stone walls. As long as they could bring in magic weapons, they could build impregnable fortresses in a short time.

Once a fortress was built, it was not easy to conquer. The only way to break through was to keep attacking until the magical power of the magicians maintaining the fortress ran out, which would require a significant sacrifice.

However, the method the magician used was not a war of endurance; instead, they took control of the magic weapons used to build the fortress and placed them under their own command.

Normally, taking control of magic weapons that are under someone else’s command is not an easy task. It was said to be impossible unless there was only a small difference in the techniques of magical power control.

However, that magician, incredibly, didn’t just take control of one magic weapon, but seized control of all the magic weapons in the fortress at once. This meant that they managed to overpower dozens of magicians by themselves, and their skill in controlling magic was beyond amazing; it was completely out of the ordinary.

Moreover, because of their extraordinary magic control skills, while regular magicians are said to be able to control their magic only within a range of about 100 to 300 meters (≈ 330 to 1,000 feet), this magician could control their magic from as far as 5 kilometers (≈ 3.1 miles) away, allowing them to take over the fortress without ever appearing in front of the enemy.

The existence of such a monster quickly spread to neighboring countries, and just hearing rumors that this magician was heading their way made soldiers from other nations abandon the fortress and flee before even fighting.

After all, the fortress that was supposed to protect them turned into an inescapable prison the moment that magician appeared, so it was unreasonable to expect them not to run away.

The previous emperor used the power of this magician to quickly silence the small nations, and the Theocracy and the Kingdom, frightened by this power, signed a ceasefire agreement before the empire could intervene.

Thus, the magician who single-handedly led the world to end the wars was given a great name, and that person was none other than Amelia Pordhail, the living legend who was granted this title by the previous emperor.

* * *

”Haah… as expected, we’re not on the same level.”

Murmured Estesia Pordhail, as she was probing Amelia’s magic from in front of the bakery next to the mansion.

”The flow of magic in her body is like a gentle stream flowing through the mountains, yet that magic is as heavy as the magma that has simmered in a volcano for thousands of years… it’s just the best!”

As she twisted and writhed, uttering words that made no sense to ordinary people, there was no mistaking that she was a pervert, and drool dripped from the corner of her mouth.

Just a moment ago, she had been in a foul mood over Neil, but now she was in a state of bliss, feeling the magic of her idol nearby.

Estesia had an overwhelming admiration for Amelia.

It was to the point that it went beyond admiration and into the realm of worship; it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that she took the name Pordhail because she wanted to be like Amelia.

As Estesia squirmed in a creepy manner, she noticed that Amelia’s magic was moving, and she was about she was leaving the mansion.

”Eh, no way, she’s coming out already!?”

Estesia quickly extinguished her magic and covered her face with the brim of her hat.

She wanted to gaze at Amelia’s face as well, but she knew that her current expression was not something she could show to others, so she suppressed her desire with her reason.

(I’m the background, I’m the background, I’m the background, I’m the background, I’m the background…)

As Estesia repeated these words in her mind like a spell, trying to become the background, she caught a glimpse of Amelia coming out of the mansion’s main gate at the edge of her vision.

It was just a brief moment, a mere glimpse, but for Estesia, who worshipped Amelia, it was enough to make her feel like she was on cloud nine. Amelia turned left after exiting the gate and approached Estesia.

(Her magic is getting closer!? No way, is it okay? Is it okay for me to feel Amelia Pordhail’s magic so close by!?)

Estesia was incredibly excited by this unexpected turn of events, and by the time Amelia was close enough for her to hear her footsteps, she had completely surpassed her limits…

(Oh, oh… my… the footsteps are resonating in my womb!)

She had developed an absurd fetish where she derived pleasure from just hearing Amelia’s footsteps, and she had become a full-fledged lewd woman, drooling from her lower mouth.

As Amelia passed by in front of her, Estesia sincerely wished that these few seconds would last forever. But just as she thought Amelia would walk past her, Amelia stopped right in front of Estesia.

”Is this really happening?” Estesia thought in disbelief. Amelia spoke to her.

”It’s our first time speaking like this, Estelia Pordhail-san.”

 ”———!?”

To correct herself, Estesia had thought she was in a state of bliss feeling Amelia’s magic nearby, but it was now, as Amelia spoke to her, that she truly experienced the pinnacle of happiness──or rather, she climaxed.

Shivering with the aftermath, she desperately tried to control her legs, which felt like they would collapse at any moment, and hid her loosened face behind the brim of her hat, not wanting to show her idol such an embarrassing sight.

”Are you feeling unwell? Is something wrong?”

”N-no… I’m fine. But what brings you here, Amelia Pordhail?”

(Ahhhh! She called my name! She’s worried about me! Oh no, I’m about to overflow with all sorts of things!)

Estesia struggled to contain the emotions and fluids that were about to spill over, overwhelmed by the immense joy that was welling up within her. She tried to maintain her composure, knowing that an opportunity like this would never come again, and wanted to prolong the conversation with Amelia for as long as possible.

However, she looked so strange that it was clear she wasn’t okay, but Amelia never imagined that Estesia had climaxed just from being spoken to, and thought she might be feeling unwell.

”If you’re not feeling well, I’ll be brief──”

 ”I’m fine now!”

Just a moment ago, Estesia was trembling like a newborn deer, but the instant Amelia said to keep it short, Estesia recovered at an amazing speed.

Amelia was surprised by how fast the recovery was and doubted the healing magic, but she felt no sign that magic had been used, and there was no trace of magical power left, which shocked her internally.

Since no magic was used, it was natural, but Amelia had no way of knowing that Estesia had recovered her condition just from the desire to talk more with someone she admired. She mistakenly thought, “It’s no wonder she calls herself Pordhail at such a young age.”

With that slight misunderstanding, the two began their conversation.

”By the way, you noticed me quite well, didn’t you?”

”Not as much as you did, but I have confidence in my magical power detection, so at this distance, it’s not a problem. And when it comes to someone with this level of magical power, it narrows down the possibilities.”

Amelia’s words were not lies, but she didn’t tell the whole truth.

Even Amelia couldn’t identify someone just by their magical power like Estesia could; she could only guess someone’s abilities from the quality of their magical power.

So why could Amelia identify Estesia? It was because of Estesia’s outfit.

Estesia’s outfit looked just like a witch or magician from a fairy tale, and to put it bluntly, it had a girlish style. The fact was that Amelia only knew one other magician who had such magical power and dressed like that.

Although Amelia tried to soften her words about Estesia’s unusual appearance, it only served to excite Estesia even more.

(Um, um, um! I never expected that Amelia Pordhail would identify individuals in a similar way to me! Does this mean I can practically say I’m Amelia Pordhail’s disciple!?)

 That’s an exaggeration.

”By the way, Estesia-san, why are you at the frontier settlement?”

”Oh, that’s… I was in the kingdom until a little while ago, but I recently returned to the empire. I just came here out of curiosity after hearing rumors about the frontier settlement.”

She couldn’t say she came to see what Amelia’s disciple was like, so she replied with neutral words.

Since neither of them was speaking their true feelings, the conversation didn’t go anywhere, and soon silence fell between them. But it was Amelia who broke that silence first.

”Before I came here, you were in the mansion, right? Did you have some business?”

”Just a simple greeting. If I don’t show my face, there are many nobles who will bother me later.”

”If that’s the case, then it was unnecessary worry. Neil-sama isn’t the type to get angry over such things.”

 ”…It seems so.”

She kept the thought of “he is small-minded” to herself and tried to remain calm.

She was feeling really good right now, and she didn’t want to ruin that feeling over a guy like him, so she tried to suppress her unpleasant emotions…

”So, that means you met Neil-sama directly, right? I actually wanted to ask, how did you see Neil-sama from your perspective?”

However, despite Estesia’s efforts, her great mood was brought down to the lowest point by the words of her admired Amelia.

Estesia realized it. This was Amelia’s main point and the reason she had approached her. Amelia was interested in Neil, not Estesia.

Holding back the messy feelings churning in her stomach, Estesia managed to ask in a carefully controlled voice.

 ”What do you mean?”

”Well, how should I put it? Compared to the previous Neil-sama, it feels like the quality of his magic has changed a lot. It’s not just that the quality has changed in a general sense; it feels like something completely different has mixed in.”

”…Unfortunately, this is the first time I’ve met Neil-sama, so I can’t say anything about how he was before.”

She couldn’t accept it. Estesia didn’t want to accept the fact that Amelia Pordhail, the person she admired so much, was more concerned about a weak, insecure man rather than the strong figure she had tried to emulate.

”Even if you don’t know about the previous Neil-sama, you must have felt something strange about his magic now, right? Since I noticed it, you, with your greater magic perception, must have noticed too──”

 ”I don’t know!!”

Finally unable to hold back any longer, Estesia exploded with her feelings.

She didn’t want to hear any more about Neil from Amelia, and she interrupted her words, shouting out her emotions.

”I’m not going to know anything about that guy! I don’t even want to know! I just heard his name a bunch of times recently, so I came to see what he’s like, but is that your disciple? Hah, that’s no good! As a noble of the empire and a magician, he’s not even close to being anything! As a noble, he’s at the very bottom, and judging by the flow of his magic, he’s at best average as a magician. If he’s being taught by someone as talented as you and he’s only that good, then honestly, he has no talent! In that sense, he’s also at the very bottom as a magician! Well, if you think of him as a noble kid just playing around with magic, I guess you could say he’s doing okay?”

Estesia, swept up in her emotions, insulted Neil. Just then, a cold voice reached her ears.

”Is that all you wanted to say?”

When Estesia slowly looked up, she saw Amelia with a very cold expression in her eyes.

”I brought up this topic, so I must have said something that upset you without realizing it. I take responsibility for that and apologize. However──.”

Deep within Amelia’s icy gaze, a quiet flame of anger flickered, and Estesia felt her body stiffen.

”I won’t allow you to insult that person.”

”…Huh? What are you going to do if you won’t allow it?”

The overwhelming pressure coming from Amelia was intense. Although they were both in the same position in Pordhail, there was a huge difference in power between them.

Still, Estesia refused to back down, and Amelia threw out a proposal.

”If I explain that person with words, you won’t be convinced. You’re the type who needs to see things with your own eyes to believe them, right?”

”Yeah, that’s definitely true, but… what? You want me to fight that guy? Stop it, I’m not as good at controlling magic as you are, and I can’t take responsibility if I accidentally hurt him.”

”No, I don’t plan to do that. I can’t bother him with something like this. I’ll take care of it myself.”

At that suggestion, Estesia’s eyes widened.

Why would Amelia have to fight to prove herself to Neil? All that would show is Amelia’s skill. That obvious question crossed Estesia’s mind, but this was a rare chance for Amelia to challenge her. Estesia couldn’t just let that slip away.

 ”I accept the challenge.”

And so, Amelia and Estesia, the old generation and the new generation of Pordhail, were set to clash.
