A few days have passed since then, and it seems that Zora and Estesia-san, who appeared to act on impulse, have really started working at the mansion.
However, they are not officially hired as servants of the Count Atmiras family; it’s more like a part-time job with a shift system.
I ultimately decide whether they get hired or not, but before that, Zora went to Lucena-san to discuss what areas might need more help and what times they need extra hands. She gathered all the details to eliminate any reasons I might have to refuse her request. It seemed like an impulsive action, but it wasn’t thoughtless.
On the other hand, Estesia-san, who stepped up to compete with Zora, seemed to act completely on impulse. After finishing her work, she comes to me and complains that it’s not what she expected.
Given her attitude, I thought she would quit right away, but while I was handling paperwork, I heard from Lewya that she is still working as a servant, even while grumbling.
”──Well, her behavior is a bit problematic, but she learns quickly, so she should be useful before the head servant leaves.”
”Is that… something to be happy about?”
”I have mixed feelings about it, but Estesia’s intentions are too obvious. Just the other day, she asked me to take over the role of washing Neil’s body. Of course, I refused.”
”That’s a relief; I feel a bit unsafe around Estesia-san right now.”
”Are you really not aware of anything?”
”I’ve said it many times, but I truly have no idea about this.”
”However, that level of obsession is abnormal, right? She’s asking other servants about what Neil was like in the past, and aside from work, all she talks about is Neil. I can’t believe she’d get so invested without any reason.”
”I feel the same way about that…”
Lewya seems to think I can’t figure it out because I’m dense, but honestly, I have no clue.
The person who showed open hostility when we first met is now acting like this just a few hours later.
Even I can clearly say this isn’t just a matter of me being slow on the uptake.
”I think I might know why my teacher has changed, but if I ask, she just laugh it off.”
”Why not just ask her directly?”
”I’m not brave enough to ask a stranger I’ve only known for a few days, ‘Why do you like me so much?’ Plus, I have a feeling that would just make things worse.”
”Estesia’s behavior right now is definitely strange, so it’s probably best for you to avoid her, Neil.”
”Well, since she’s working as a servant, at least I won’t be stuck with her obsessing over me for now. It’s just a bit too much enthusiasm, but it’s not harmful. Let’s wait and see; if we leave it alone, she might cool off and settle down.”
”I hope so.”
Lewya mutters in disbelief at my optimistic words.
I can’t help it; right now, I have something else on my mind that’s more concerning than Estesia-san.
”More importantly, what’s going on with Diana?”
”Oh, about that, there’s no problem. I’ll coordinate with Mei, and tonight it’ll just be Diana. But honestly, instead of going through all this trouble, can’t we just call Diana and ask her directly?”
”Yeah… well, that’s true.”
I couldn’t find the right moment to bring it up, and if I kept waiting, things would just drag on. So, to give myself a push, I decided to talk to Lewya and Mei to help set things up.
For that reason, tonight, I was going to face Diana to finally resolve the questions I had been wondering about.
