Volume 1 Chapter 7 This Is My Path ‘Result’ – But No One’S More Confused By The Results Than Me
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”──So, Nao-nii. How many other women are there besides me?”
”Showin’ your possessive side right after we’re done, huh…”
After finishing up, Suzuri snuggled close, and as soon as her breathing calmed down, she went straight to the point.
”Come on, it’s important.”
”Alright, but really, I’m only in contact with two folks right now. One’s sorta in the industry, and the other’s just a regular.”
”Two people doesn’t mean ‘only’…!”
”Ain’t ya a bit harsh with the words? Ya part of some secret police?”
”So, how long has it been? How long have you been dating?”
”Dang, really pressin’ hard, huh? Well, with the normal girl, less than six months. The other one—oh wow, goin’ on three years now.”
”Eh, if it’s been that long, does that mean you’re basically common-law married or something?”
”Nah, nah, she’s my senpai’s ex. I’m like… a young swallow, you could say (aijinn).”
”Are you saying you stole her…?”
”Idiot, it was ‘til death do ‘em part──she’s a widow.”
”So, you’re like King David? Nao-nii, you should turn yourself in.”
”Hey, hey, what d’ya take me for?”
”Based on your recent behavior, I think you’re quite the scumbag…”
”Heh, bit harsh there, but since it’s true, can’t exactly argue… Anyway, you’re payin’ for that next time.”
”Wait, give me a chance to explain before you decide!”
”Ya didn’t give me a chance, but now ya want one for yerself? Well, this here’s a life lesson.”
”Just kidding, just kidding… right? Nao-nii?”
”Ya really think bein’ cute’s gonna let ya get away with it, huh?”
”──Because you left me alone for so many years, and today you were acting strangely nice to me… I can’t help but think that you’ll treat me like you used to.”
If he looks back at his old memories, for Suzuri, he was nothing but a sweet and kind older brother.
”Ahh… yeah, guess stuff like that happens, huh…”
He understands that she wants to rely on him like before because she’s hurt and confused by the change in their relationship.
After all, Suzuri is still a student.
He remembers that he was a pretty terrible brat when he was her age.
”Well, guess it can’t be helped, right?”
”Right? And as your wife, even if I have to accept them, I should know about the existence of a mistress.”
”Wife? Who’s wife? Whose!?”
”Eh, of course, it’s me… You’re not planning to just run away, are you!? After being with me at my house with my parents’ approval!?”
”Naw, it ain’t like that.”
Just hearing that sounds really bad.
”Naw, I already promised yer dad I’d raise the ‘top exorcist of the Shiun family.’ Goin’ and gettin’ hitched just like that wouldn’t be right, ya know?”
”Then Naoshi should come live with us…”
”Aww, c’mon, I’m an only child, y’know.”
”U──no, wait, what about cousins? You have cousins!”
”My sis ain’t interested in any of this, and my lil’ bro’s just… not fit for it. Kazuramichi’d fall apart. Anyway, head of the family’d never allow no son-in-law!”
”Eh, eh, wait a minute. I can’t keep up with this. So, after being with you in this situation, I won’t be taken responsibility for it?”
”I’ll do my best to make Suzuri-chan a top exorcist too, alright?”
”So my virginity is only worth the fee for Naoshi’s guidance, huh…!?”
”Didn’t I say somethin’ ‘bout ‘discipline’ you? I ain’t sayin’ you’re worth all that, but this time it has a purpose, and that’s why Shiun-san went along with it, yeah?”
”…So, how long until I can get my investment back?”
”Heh, you’ve got a funny way of puttin’ things! Well, let’s say… if ya work three years after ya make it to first-class, that’ll do. By then, maybe I’ll have my lil’ brother lined up to take over.”
”Three years… If it’s that long, Naoshi-nii will wait for me, right?”
”Yeah, sure. If I don’t meet someone who loves me more or get hitched, then I’ll wait.”
”That doesn’t mean you’ll actually wait…!”
”Well, if the family head says it’s time to get married, I ain’t gonna argue.”
”Ugh, this is definitely weird…!? The eldest daughter of the Shiun family gave up her virginity…?”
”Aw, no one cares about that these days. Anyway, you gotta work hard and become first-class soon.”
”Then, can I get a recommendation tomorrow…?”
”Don’t be sayin’ dumb things. Do ya really think ya can just breeze through somethin’ this serious? I’ll judge ya when you’ve got the real skills.”
”Ugh, using logic as harassment…”
”Logic ain’t bullying.”
”Uuuuu~ Naoshi-nii, you idiot…!”
Pouting, Suzuri took Naoshi’s arm and placed it under her head like a pillow.
”Oi, Suzuri-chan, can you move a bit? Ya layin’ there’s makin’ my arm go numb.”
”Even now, you’re still hinting at other girls…!”
”No matter what I say, ya gettin’ all riled up. Just go on an’ sleep. C’mon.”
”Idiot! Pervert! Womanizer! First love and virgin thief! Good night! I love you! If I wake up and you’re not next to me, I’m going to cry!”
”Hah, such a handful, ya are. Fine, I’ll stick ‘round till ya wake up proper──.”
* * *
(──No, no, this is not good.)
Looking at Suzuri, who had quickly fallen into a peaceful sleep, Naoshi held his head in his hands.
Once he stepped away from his roles as an exorcist and the Acting Head of the Kazuramichi family, memories of his time in the Reiwa era began to stir up anxiety.
It’s pretty bad to take the virginity of your cool younger childhood friend with a black ponytail and not take responsibility, but the fact that he had been picking fights with older folks and expanding his influence on a whim made him feel small.
He thought he should use his unique personality──something like a fox-faced guy with a Kansai dialect──to do something more interesting.
For example, if he tried saying poetic things every now and then, maybe he could land a nice position on the cover of a spin-off. He pondered a bit.
’Fox face
Kansai dialect
Trash inside
No matter what
I’m gonna die like this’
──Ah, this sounds more like a death poem than poetry, right?
After all, spin-offs of characters who die in the main story are pretty common.
He was completely lost.
If he brought his thoughts back to the main point, even if Suzuri didn’t remember, there was still the issue of her possibly being a heroine for someone else.
And it seemed like her feelings for him weren’t decreasing… I see, this is Naoshi-kun’s route of falling into darkness and then a tearful farewell.
What a nightmare. That’s one more future worry added.
No, it’s more likely that he could get stabbed by a yandere version of Suzuri, right? He should prepare for that.
Another thing that worried him was that Naoshi was quite the overpowering character.
Even though it’s a special ability battle, what they’re doing is just using their enhanced speed, power, and toughness to hit hard with simple physical attacks.
In stories, these clear strong characters often get taken down quickly or lose in clever ways to show how strong and smart their opponents are.
It’s like a counter to the idea that big guys are strong in real life; the real thrill comes from turning the tables with creativity, so why are they the ones getting turned over?
Well, in a way, it seems like the ultimate “head exorcist” moment, but that just sets them up for a fall later, right?
Also, he wishes they would stop explaining things from a high-and-mighty perspective.
It was totally setting up for a swift and sudden downfall (laughs).
But if he doesn’t think about the usual tropes, then nothing seems unnatural, and they really did rise to be called the strongest in Kansai.
But this is a world where those tropes exist, and as frustrating as it is, there’s nothing he can do about it.
Considering his own abilities, he power they gained through years of hard work can’t just be changed on a whim; that would only weaken him. It’s tough.
──But if he thinks positively, there’s no need to be too pessimistic about other situations.
Especially the approval from the heads of the other 8 families besides the Shiun family honestly didn’t matter to him.
From Naoshi’s perspective, they felt like they were a step removed from the action. They might not be as bad as the games that make you doubt the original story, but they’re still a type of poison that doesn’t help.
And if he digs a little deeper into reality, trying to mess with Naoshi, who is the biggest force in Kansai, in political struggles is just foolish and a form of self-destruction.
Of course, the other families in Kansai have their ambitions and are looking for chances to take him down.
No one with a sane mind would intentionally create openings for themselves against that.
And yet, this kind of deadly internal conflict has been avoided by everyone so far with realistic judgment. This is true not just in Kansai, but in other regions as well.
So, he should be able to believe that this judgment won’t be mistaken in the future.
Even though it should be a reasonable thought, the more he think about it, the more anxious he become…
As he gazed at Suzuri’s peaceful sleeping face, his troubled thoughts didn’t end until midnight.
