 In the middle of summer, I went to a huge event in the bay area for the first time in my life. The result was that just walking around drained my energy, and I ended up getting heatstroke, feeling really tough and miserable.

 The reasons for my failure were that I couldn’t find anyone to go with me and I didn’t do enough research before going. It’s not like I don’t have friends, but… I just didn’t have anyone who could go to that kind of event with me.

 I hate to say it, but my looks aren’t that bad. Maybe because of that, or maybe because of how I usually act and speak… people around me just assume I “probably wouldn’t participate in such events.” In fact, they might even think I “don’t seem interested at all.” When I think about it, even popular manga and anime rarely come up when I’m talking with friends. I should have shown that I was at least a little interested, but I never had the chance to say anything.

 After working part-time after school and saving up enough money to go to the event, I tried to feel out someone who seemed like they could go with me. But all I got was, “Oh, yeah, I’ve heard of that,” and then the topic quickly changed. It felt like they were saying, “This isn’t a place for you.”
