Volume 1 Chapter 3 Lack Of Preparation
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
When I have too much free time, bad thoughts come to mind. If I spend a whole day alone without talking to anyone, I start thinking things like, “Why was I born when I didn’t even wish for it?” or “I’m not needed by anyone” or “I want to die.” These feelings come up one after another for no reason, and I feel a bit depressed, which brings me down.
To avoid feeling that way, I decided to take part-time jobs on my days off, as long as I don’t have other plans. However, this year, when I decided to go to an event, I planned to wake up slowly the day before and take my time preparing.
I intentionally didn’t schedule any shifts, but then I got a message from a coworker on my smartphone app. They said they couldn’t make it and asked me to cover for them, so I had to take a shift at the last minute.
Even if I planned to leave home early the next day, if someone needs me, I can’t say no. In the end, I finished work at night, and on the train home, I could only check the event location and circle information on my phone a little.
I can’t say I was fully prepared, but it couldn’t be helped.
On the day of the event, I was exhausted from work and lacked sleep, so I felt terrible. I managed to endure the heat and long wait without collapsing inside the event venue, but my water bottle was empty, and all the vending machines I found were “sold out,” leaving me feeling like I was going to die.
With my unsteady body, I finally reached a convenience store, but it wasn’t near the event venue; it was at the entrance of a luxury apartment building on the other side. The fancy entrance was cool, but it felt out of place for someone like me who lives in a cheap apartment.
I thought that if I asked the people living in such a place for help, they would probably treat me coldly. There was a person in uniform at the lobby counter inside, but the door in front was auto-locked, so I couldn’t even talk to them.
