”Is it a good time? I need to talk a bit…”
Just as I finished unpacking, there was a knock on the door. What could it be?
”You’re really a high school student.”
When I opened the door, Risa-san walked in and looked at my uniform hanging on the wall. It seemed like she realized what I had said before was true.
”Risa-san, what’s up?”
”Ah, yeah. Here, this is the house key. Tomorrow, I have a day shift followed by an overnight shift, so I’m giving it to you now.”
She handed me a drop-shaped leather key tag.
”I was told to use a guest key at the front desk, though? It might be fine for tomorrow, but what about the day after? Won’t you have trouble without the key, Risa-san?”
”I’m not going to have trouble, so it’s okay. Besides, the guest key can’t open the room door.”
It seems the guest key is only for operating the elevator and security doors. Confusing.
”Then, should I deliver the key to your hospital the day after tomorrow?”
I thought this would let me know where Risa-san works. But she replied, “No way! You don’t have to do that!” and my plan fell through. It’s not easy to figure her out.
”This house can also be unlocked with my smartphone. That key is just a backup in case my phone runs out of battery, so it won’t matter if you keep it.”
”Got it.”
I took the key and placed it next to my smartphone on the bedside table.
”Also, about breakfast tomorrow…”
”Should I make it? I probably wake up earlier anyway.”
With my parents’ inheritance and my part-time job, I can’t live too luxuriously. Cooking for myself is a must while living alone. After almost 3 years, I’m confident I can make something decent.
”Really? You can cook!?”
No need to be that surprised… I guess people thought I wouldn’t be able to cook.
”What ingredients do we have? If you show me what’s in the fridge, I can make something.”
”Ugh, the ingredients… might be… none?”
Why is the answer so uncertain? Could it be that she hasn’t opened the fridge enough to remember what’s inside? I hope that’s not the case.
