Volume 3 Chapter 2 Risa’s Workplace And Colleagues

Risa-san’s workplace was close to her home. It took a little time to walk there, but it was a distance that was easy to walk, and if I had a bike, I could get there even faster.
It wasn’t as big as a university hospital, but it wasn’t just a small town doctor’s office either; it had one doctor and 2 or 3 medical staff.
I entered through a place with a sign that said “Night Clinic” and had the security office contact Risa-san for me.
In front of the security office, there were vending machines lined up, making it a bit like a lounge, so I waited there for Risa-san.
”Wait…! Oh! It’s the cool guy who collapsed in front of Risa-sensei’s house from heatstroke last summer!?”
Yuki-san, a nurse who came to buy a drink from the vending machine, was surprised to see me.
”Ah, hello. Thank you for what you did back then.”
”What are you doing here? …Wait, no way! Did you come to see Risa-sensei because you couldn’t forget her!?”
Yuki-san looked really excited. Her eager eyes were a bit scary.
”Well… I came to deliver something that I was asked to bring, so I’ll leave right after I give it to her.”
”Something you were asked to bring…? I see. Risa-sensei had to switch shifts because the others got sick, so she had to take over for another doctor!”
After Yuki-san nodded as if she understood, there was a moment of silence.
”…Wait, that’s strange! Why do you have Risa-sensei’s change of clothes? That means you live together, right? Plus, she didn’t order dinner delivery, so you have a bento too!”
It seemed that Risa-san hadn’t talked about me at work at all. She was keeping it a secret.
”So the cool guy is also a bento guy… Wow, what a twist!”
Yuki-san was getting all excited and lost in her thoughts. I wished Risa would come soon. I couldn’t keep up with the conversation.
”Oh, by the way. Right now, we have a lot of apples, and no one is eating them, so they’re starting to go bad. If you’re cooking, do you want to take some home?”
”…Old… lots of apples?”
”Even if they’re old, they’re still good to eat! I think Risa-sensei would be happy if you made apple jam or apple pie.”
Does Risa-san like apples? Or is Yuki-san trying to push off the apples that no one wants? Which is it?
”I’ve never made sweets before.”
”Making apple jam is just chopping them up, adding sugar, and cooking them. For apple pie, you can buy frozen pie crusts at the supermarket, put the apple jam on top, and bake it in the oven. It’s easy, right?”
If Yuki-san knows that much, she should just make it herself. But somehow, it felt like I was being forced to do it again.
Even though I hadn’t seen her in a while, I still found it hard to deal with Yuki-san.
”I’ll go get it now, so please don’t leave right after you give Risa-sensei her change of clothes and bento.”
It seemed like taking the apples home was a done deal. After saying that, Yuki-san went up to the ward. I had planned to go home light without any extra stuff.
I wanted to finish my business and leave without taking the apples.
