Volume 3 Chapter 10 Future Matters

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

(Two days in a row with apple pie…)

How much do I like it? For dessert on the second day’s dinner, I was thinking of making a cocktail with ice cream and raspberries, but Risa-san’s simple question, “Is there still apple pie?” changed that.

It’s the request of the client, and if it makes her happy, then it’s fine by me. Both of us have to go back to work tomorrow. If we drink too much, it could cause problems. I have things I need to do as well.

Even by mid-November, my job hunting was still struggling. I might not have a decision by the end of the year. The employment exam includes a written test that asks about general knowledge.

I thought I didn’t need to do anything since it was “general knowledge,” but I finally decided to prepare for the employment exam.

After getting out of the bath, I was the only one who went into the bedroom on the second floor. Risa-san was still talking with Yuki-san in the living room on the first floor, so it was quiet once I entered the room. I flipped through the workbook I bought earlier this week.

What I realized was that it wasn’t just about being asked “general knowledge.” It was clearly different from the “general knowledge” exam I had anticipated.

Every time I took a recruitment exam, I felt something was off, but I really got tricked. I want to die…

 ”Shuu, were you studying? Sorry.”

As I leaned against the bed board and stared at the workbook, Risa-san opened the door to the room.

”No, I wasn’t studying, so it’s fine. What’s up? Do you want to make a snack?”

”We have enough food, so it’s okay. I came to get a book.”

Saying that, Risa-san started searching through the pile of recently bought books that had been left next to the stereo.

”I found it! Yuki, this is it. Recommended Omega Verse.”

 Risa-san said a word I didn’t quite understand.

”Thanks! Oh, it’s a special edition!”

She started a conversation with Yuki-san, who was by the door, mixing in some spell-like words. Normally, if you mention alpha and beta, the word gamma should come up, but it didn’t at all.

I thought they might be talking about radiation used in medicine, but then I reconsidered that these two wouldn’t be discussing physics with such a moé aura.

”Risa-sensei, let’s talk downstairs after all. It seems like he’s working on a workbook for job preparation.”

 ”Eh? Job…!?”

All eyes turned to the book I was holding. Oops, I made her feel awkward. I should have covered the workbook or taken it out when they weren’t around. I messed up.

”I thought Shuu was going to a private high school, so I assumed you’d be going for internal advancement…”

From Risa-san’s perspective, my attitude towards life seemed like someone whose path was already decided. I still hadn’t received any job offers from companies, so there was no way I could feel that relaxed.

”My high school is private, but there’s no affiliated university.”

”I see. Oh, but… even if Shuu goes to university or gets a job, I was thinking about how it would be if you kept commuting from here?”

”I plan to move into a dorm once I get a job. I’ll be living here until March.”

I haven’t forgotten the reason I started dating Risa-san. I think my decision to forcefully start living together was the right one. I’ve built quite a bit of trust with Risa-san, and I’ve gotten used to living with her.

However, that’s only possible because it’s temporary, and honestly, I’m feeling exhausted trying to adapt to Risa-san’s lifestyle.

So I want to get a job quickly and start a new life that’s different and more suited to me. I’m also hoping for new encounters.

”Well… I understand. If you’re going to get a job, it can’t be helped.”

”If, you know, if I don’t get a job, can I stay here?”

 ”Yeah! That’s fine.”

I asked, just in case, since Risa-san seemed a bit down, and she readily agreed.

”No, that’s not okay! He has to work hard on his job hunting. If Risa-sensei doesn’t get it together, you’ll end up raising a useless guy who’s just a freeloader, you know?”

Even Yuki-san labeled me a “freeloader.” The women around Risa-san seem to think I give off that impression.

”You two weren’t talking about the future. I thought Risa-sensei would be the one to bring it up. I’m surprised.”

That’s true. We started dating by chance, and we’re just stretching out what should have been

I understand that this isn’t the kind of sweet, love-dazed relationship where we talk about the distant future, even without someone else telling me.

 ”I won’t be in Risa-san’s future.”

If my life doesn’t go as I hope anyway, then at that time, I plan to die. No one knows what will happen from here on out.

As long as the present is good, I thought it might be okay if there’s no future with Risa-san…
