Baseka V1c5

Volume 1 Chapter 5

After our break, we decided to continue exploring the forest.

I told Kashirou she could stay at the Base since she had used up all her attack magic…

”Even if I can’t use Flame Bullet, I can still support you with ‘Analysis Magic.’ Plus, I really don’t want to be alone in an empty room. It feels lonely.”

I never thought a girl like her would say something like that. Honestly, I was counting on her ‘Analysis Magic,’ so it would really help if she came along.

”By the way, can I ask you something… Can your magic get us novels or philosophy books?”

Kashirou asked, looking a bit nervous and avoiding my gaze. I hadn’t thought about that either. While I was searching in the Point Shop, Kashirou kept making excuses.

”I just asked for reference, okay? I don’t want them right now, and I know this isn’t the right situation. I can’t imagine spending points earned from fighting Demonkind on entertainment. I think there should be a fair trade. If there’s anything I can do, I’m ready to accept any request, even if it’s a bit… naughty──.”

She sounded way too desperate. How much does she want to read? Is she addicted to books or something?

”Any book is fine? I do have some, but they might be about magic or the history of the kingdom, so they could be from Another World. There’s a collection of myths that’s relatively cheap.”

Wait, does this mean that Godborn, who made the Base system, made myths cheaper? They set the price lower to make it easier to read. They really seem to want attention.

”Another World myths… Aren’t those like Rare Books? How many points do they cost? I’ll learn how to fight from you and earn my own points…”

”They’re being sold for 20 points, so it’s not a big deal. But thinking about our future, it might be a bit tricky.”

 ”…Yeah, wasting points isn’t good.”

”No, that’s not what I meant.”

Reading must be really important to Kashirou. She always read during breaks, so losing that joy must be really tough for her. I get stressed when I can’t play games, so I totally understand how she feels.

 The problem is…

”When Kashirou wants something, it’s a hassle that she has to ask me every time. There are things like clothes and underwear that might be hard to ask me for. I hope we can find a solution…”

Kashirou looked puzzled for a moment, then smiled.

”You don’t have to worry about that. It’s originally Hyakudou’s magic, so I’m just being selfish. The rights should belong to Hyakudou, and if not, it could get messy someday.”

”Really? Given the situation, I don’t want to monopolize anything.”

”No, actually, Hyakudou, you should assert yourself. If you don’t say something like, ‘If you’re unhappy with my decision, I won’t give you anything,’ people will keep asking for more. Human desires have no limits. Once it becomes normal to receive things, the requests will just keep escalating.”

 That does sound likely.

There are people who don’t know how to hold back, and if someone yelled, “Why won’t you buy me that 5000-point lotion!?” I might just lose it.

”Since you’re giving me that advice, Kashirou, you must be a good person.”

”…If Hyakudou gets taken advantage of, I’ll be in trouble too. We’re going to be living together from now on.”

Kashirou looked away shyly. Seeing her act like that made me feel a bit embarrassed too.

Even though it’s an emergency, I’m going to be living with a girl from my class… I don’t have points to buy a private room, so for a while, we’ll be sharing a place to sleep. Even when I can buy a bathroom, we’ll have to take turns using it for a while. I’ll hear the shower, and if there’s no changing area, I might see her changing…

No, I shouldn’t think about this. It’s making me feel all sorts of things.

Let’s just think about killing Demonkind. If we get enough points, we can get a private room or even buy a changing room. We need to hunt Demonkind quickly to earn those points.

 ”Oh.”

Just at the right moment, a Goblin walked by, so I kicked the ground and ambushed it, taking it down easily. It was only 5 points, but every little bit adds up.

”I found the Nest’s location. Let’s go when we’re ready.”

I nodded and opened the Point Shop.

”Have you ever used a knife in battle?”

 ”Of course not.”

”Then should I get a shield? It’s better than nothing.”

 ”…Yeah, thanks.”

 A small shield costs 120 points, and I have 1025 points… 1025 points!?

Wait, wait, why did my points suddenly go up by 500?

’Point History: First domination by ‘Eros Magic.’ +500 points.’

Oh right, I remember they said something about merging with ‘Base Magic.’

So I can earn points with ‘Eros Magic’ too.

Maybe the automatic activation was some kind of tutorial?

This is way easier than defeating Demonkind.

What should I do? Should I attack a female Goblin?

No, I don’t want to do that, and Kashirou would definitely be freaked out.

But 500 points is a big deal.

A female Goblin… 500 points… Damn, I feel more cornered than ever since coming to this Island…

 ”Hyakudou?”

Kashirou seems suspicious since I suddenly went quiet.

I can’t let her lose trust in me.

Attacking a female Goblin should be a last resort.

I bought a small shield for Kashirou, leaving me with 905 points.

I bought one Poison Knife and one regular knife, leaving me with 755 points.

”If you get hurt, let me know right away. There are healing potions for that. They’re cheap at 20 points, so don’t hesitate to use them.”

 ”Thanks, I’m counting on you.”

Actually, the healing potions cost 500 points, but if I tell Kashirou that, she might hide her injuries. If she holds back, it could be dangerous, so saying it’s cheap will make her feel better. …Well, she might find out with ‘Analysis Magic,’ but still.

 Anyway, we’re all set now.

I’m not sure if we can get our points back, but having a Goblin Nest around isn’t good. Even if it ends badly, we should take care of it now.

From now on, I won’t hold back.

I need to face this like I’m up against a big sister.

* * *

”That Goblin has an injury on its right hand.”

 12th Goblin.

”The left Goblin struggles to run. Its steps are all over the place.”

 18th Goblin.

”It’s thinking about escaping. There seem to be 3 more of its friends deeper inside.”

 22nd Goblin.

”This is the last room of the Nest. The Goblins have set traps, so be careful. The traps are pits made with Earth Magic. They’re in the center of the room.”

Knowing the location and the traps made them feel like nothing.

”The boss is a strong enemy with great strength, and its minions can use Earth Magic. They’ll attack when they break the ground beneath you.”

That was the end at the 27th Goblin.

Kashirou’s ‘Analysis Magic’ was spot on, and I didn’t struggle at all. I’m lucky to have such a great partner.

”Thanks to Kashirou, everything went smoothly. ‘Analysis Magic’ is amazing.”

”I don’t think the result would have changed if I wasn’t here. You weren’t struggling at all against the big Goblin boss. Since it’s confident in its strength, my analysis didn’t help much.”

”Knowing it’s confident in its strength is important information. I can predict how a strong fighter will act. As long as I know that, I have the advantage.”

The Earth Magic was more annoying than the boss.

I didn’t learn how to fight against magic in training with my big sister.

Since I was warned that it would break the ground, I could create an opening and adjust my timing. This strategy worked because of Kashirou’s support and the low intelligence of the Demonkind. I need to think of better countermeasures, or I might get caught off guard. Physically too.

’Defeated the Shaman Goblin. +100 points.’

 ’Defeated the King Goblin. +200pt’

 ’Conquered the Goblin Nest. +1000pt’

 ’Current Points: 2180pt’

Nice, targeting the Goblin Nest was a good move.

I can buy a Toilet or a Bed and still have change left, and I could even get a 500pt sword or a 700pt spear if I wanted to.

”This time, the MVP is Kashirou. We could even buy a bookshelf and line up some myth books.”

”That’s a really tempting idea, but let’s hold off for now. We should focus on setting up our basics first. Spending too much isn’t good.”

Hmm. I might have been getting a bit too excited.

I’m really grateful that Kashirou is here to keep me grounded. Even when I get carried away, she calmly reminds me to stay focused.

”You’re so level-headed. I’m glad the first person I met was Kashirou.”

 That was my honest feeling.

If I hadn’t met Kashirou, I would have struggled a lot more.

 ”…Yeah. I also… never mind. Forget I said anything.”

”You don’t have to be shy. We did well together, so just be happy about it.”

”I’m not really used to that kind of thing. I’ve spent a lot of time alone.”

 Wow, that’s a bit of a downer.

Kashirou doesn’t seem too bothered by it, though.

”I’m here now. If you ever want to talk about anything, I’d probably be happy to listen.”

”You surprisingly say embarrassing things so casually.”

”Really? Was that so embarrassing? Forget it, I’m just a bit too excited.”

”Oh, do I have to forget? I was a little happy about it.”

For once, Kashirou had a teasing smile. Maybe she’s a bit excited too.

MC’S becoming more careless compared to the previous chapters. Probably to make Kashirou more important.
