Baseka V1c12

Volume 1 Chapter 12

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I bought a map of This Island.

Knowing the overall layout and our current location will help us set our future plans. Since there were no opposing opinions, we all gathered around to look at the map.

”I wish I had this before coming to the Island…”

It’s no wonder Yodomizu was grumbling; this was an essential item.

Looking at the map, the Island of Trials is divided into 4 sections.

One is the ‘Demon General Class Ogre Section.’ No doubt, that’s where we are. The names of the other sections are ‘Demon General Class Ghost Knight Section’ and ‘Demon General Class Succubus Section,’ so it’s highly likely that defeating all these Demonkind is the condition to clear the Trial.

 The problem is…

”I knew there was a mountain in the center of the Island, but seeing ‘Demon King Class Dragon Section’ at the Mountain Summit makes me want to go there even less.”

Kashiro clearly looks like an indoor person, and the thought of climbing a mountain only to face a Dragon afterward is the worst.

I mean, just dealing with 2 other Ogre-class Demonkind is already a hassle, and now there’s a Demonkind that seems stronger than an Ogre living there. It’s probably the final boss of This Island, and in a way, it fits the role… Dragon, a Dragon…

”I don’t feel like we can win.”

I muttered without thinking, and everyone fell silent.

Only Mayuki didn’t have a gloomy face.

”A Dragon is just a big lizard.”

”Lizards don’t fly or breathe fire, right?”

”Even if it flies, we can shoot it down with a flash bomb, and we can block its breath with a shield.”

This guy is hopeless; she’s mixing up games with Another World. I really wish she’d have a bit more sense of danger.

”In reality, if you run out of strength even once, it’s game over.”

”We just need to gather the best gear with Koushi’s ‘Base Magic.’ Like a Dragon-Slaying Spear or something.”

 ”There’s nothing like that.”

 But, it’s a good idea.

There might be some gear that’s super effective against dragons.

 ”…The dragon-slaying greatsword costs 30,000 points.”

”If we use ‘Eros Magic’ 30 times, we can buy it. Me and Koushi can handle it easily.”

”How can you say that with a straight face?”

Kashiro is shocked by the blunt comment, Yodomizu’s face is bright red, and class rep is… staring at the map, completely ignoring it. I thought for sure she’d be angry or speechless, so this reaction is a bit surprising. Is she already getting used to Mayuki’s wild behavior?

”If you’re going to do it, please make a private room and do it there.”

Everyone except Mayuki is shocked by class rep’s comment. Did she sense the attention on her? class rep looks a bit flustered.

”W-What? Did I say something weird?”

”No… I thought class rep would have a more innocent reaction, like ‘That’s inappropriate!’”

 ”Yes, yes. You’re surprisingly cool.”

”Maybe you have a boyfriend or something…?”

With our curious gazes on her, class rep lets out a sigh.

”My mom loved men and was always having affairs. She would bring her lovers home and have huge fights with my dad at least once a month, so I had to get used to it whether I liked it or not.”

Whoa, did I step on a landmine? It’s the same for me, but talking about family situations just brings the mood down, so it’s a taboo topic.

”Sorry. I didn’t mean to remind you of something unpleasant because of Mayuki.”

”I’m not at fault. The one to blame is Yodomizu for asking.”

 ”I’m so sorry…!”

”You all are really good at shifting the blame.”

It was all of us that made the conversation go off track. When we all apologized, class rep gave a wry smile.

”I’m not bothered by it. My mom was a good negative example, and thanks to that, I can think about living my life with integrity.”

I never knew that the class rep had such a backstory in shaping their personality. I thought she was just a serious overachiever, but it turns out she became who she is today by overcoming a complicated family situation.

”Perfect timing, let’s talk about us too.”

”That might help us get closer.”

 ”I’m really curious about Ms. Sotozaki’s story…!”

Everyone seems interested, looking at Mayuki with eager eyes.

Mayuki closed her eyes for a moment and started speaking with an unusually serious vibe.

”Koushi’s family was all cold and strict.”

”Wait. Why are you talking about my story? Talk about yourself.”

”Endless tough love and pressure from his parents. When we were a kid, Koushi was wild and hated me.”

 ”Hey. Don’t ignore me.”

”So Koushi, the lone wolf, was slowly tamed by my motherly love and started to regain his humanity.”

”Don’t lie so boldly in front of me. I was just worried about your weird behavior.”

It’s true that I was twisted back then, and because of that, I had no friends other than Mayuki. But even I was worried about how out there Mayuki was.

Running barefoot through the fields was normal for her, and if I took my eyes off her for a second, she’d be falling off a cliff. She’d bounce down multiple times and somehow only get minor injuries with her ridiculously tough body. I had never met anyone like her, and I was being tossed around by her every day.

Well, still. When I was with Mayuki, I could forget about my home life, so in a way, I was saved by her.

”How did Ms. Sotozaki grow up?”

 The class rep asked me.

”Mayuki’s parents were like saints. Thanks to that, Mayuki was spoiled and turned into a crazy monster.”

Her home life doesn’t show any signs of struggle. Mayuki’s parents are totally supportive of whatever she does, and no matter how rude I am, they welcome me with kindness. They’re the complete opposite of my parents, which is why I initially disliked Mayuki.

──”Don’t talk to me, you pampered princess.”

I’ve even rejected her like that. Still, Mayuki patiently kept trying to connect with me, so saying she’s like a saint isn’t too far off.

…When I shared this with the class rep and the others, they looked at me with warm smiles.

”You two really are close childhood friends, huh?”

I wonder about that. It’s true that Mayuki saved me, but I don’t know why she likes me.

”Why does Mayuki keep inviting me?”

I asked as casually as I could, and Mayuki answered without hesitation.

”You were rude, but you still worried about me. When I fell off a cliff, you chased after me without a second thought, even knowing you could die too.”

Well, thanks to my big sister, I was confident in my physical abilities. When Mayuki was chased by a wild boar after throwing rocks at it, it was a cute experience compared to what my big sister put me through.

By the way, the other kids who were playing with us all distanced themselves from Mayuki. A lot of them got seriously hurt from the dangerous games she suggested, so it’s a natural reaction.

Looking back, we might have been a good match.

”Should we not bring up Yodomizu? She doesn’t seem to have a good impression of family, just like me.”

”No, it’s not that. They just didn’t care about me…”

Yodomizu has a weak smile on her face.

Being ignored must be tough. It’s probably better not to dig too deep.

”Hyakudou can be considerate, but he also tends to say the wrong things a lot, right?”

”I know it’s bad. I was twisted as a kid, so I’m not great with relationships. What about you, Kashiro?”

I only get the impression that Kashiro is a solitary woman who loves to read. I’m looking forward to what kind of story will come out.

”There’s not going to be any interesting story. I was pretty when I was little, so I got a lot of attention from boys. But that also meant a lot of jealousy from girls, and it made relationships a hassle. So, I just spent my time reading books.”

Wow, that’s impressive. I wish I could say, “I’ve been a handsome guy since forever.” But it seems like she’s had her struggles too, so I’m not too envious.

”But Kashiro is surprisingly kind. You never gets mad at me no matter what I do.”

After using ‘Eros Magic,’ I thought I had gone too far and felt a bit guilty, but Kashiro accepted me kindly. She’s quick to judge situations and adapts well, actively supporting me. She doesn’t shy away from self-sacrifice either. You don’t find people like that very often.

”I’m just changing my response depending on the person. Going against Hyakudou would bring nothing but harm. Plus, you’re different from other guys; you don’t push yourself on me, right?”

Even though I just used ‘Eros Magic’ to get close to her.

When it comes to the Academy, I didn’t really think about it much because I had 2 stunning beauties around me. The big sister I saw every day was celebrity-level gorgeous, and Mayuki, if you just look at her face, was someone I could get lost in staring at sometimes.

Thinking about it this way, my current situation is pretty lucky. If the other guys found out, they’d probably be jealous enough to kill me.

I’m living with 4 beautiful girls, and I’ve already been with two of them. I actually had an experience where Mayuki attacked me in the past, so the idea of ‘Eros Magic’ 30 times feels a bit too real and scary…

If I go too far, I might disappoint class rep, so I need to somehow create a soundproof room for that.
