When I woke up, I found myself not in my house, but in a dense forest filled with thick trees.
Why? I thought I was just about to play an online game at home.
I was confused by how real everything felt──the touch and the smell of the grass.
I started to seriously think that maybe I had experienced one of those isekai summonings you see in light novels.
Just then, I noticed a translucent window out of the corner of my eye.
As my awareness shifted towards it, the window expanded, bringing up the game menu screen.
Phew──scared me there.
I really thought I had ended up in another world.
The quality of this virtual reality is way too high.
Still, when did they develop dive-type VR MMORPGs? The progress in technology is just incredible.
Once I calmed down, I opened the menu again.
Looking through the menu screen, I saw options for my status, skills, equipment, and even information about my companions, along with an ON/OFF toggle for the map display.
I decided to try turning the map display ON.
A new translucent window popped up, and in the pitch-black window, there was a single red dot glowing.
It seemed like that red dot marked my location.
To verify, I walked around a bit, and the black screen started to fill in.
So, the black areas were unexplored.
Next, I checked my status.
Kento, Majin male, age 15.
Combat Job: None.
General Job: None.
Combat Skills: None.
Modifier Skills: Handsome Guy, Protective Instinct, Woman Killer, Sexual Prowess.
General Skills: None.
Equipment: None
Language Used: Western Language
Reading Comprehension: None
Title: None.
It was just like when I created the character.
With just this, I couldn’t tell if I was strong or weak.
This part felt RPG-like, or something.
For now, I set it up to display my HP and MP as bars at the edge of my vision.
The only things left in the menu were the inventory and skills sections.
The inventory seemed to be for holding items, but unfortunately, I didn’t have anything right now, so I skipped that.
The skills section was divided into combat, support, and general, and the combat skills were further split into martial arts and magic.
So, I checked what skills I had.
The pop-up description says this:
[Handsome Guy/Beautiful Girl]…Friendliness towards the opposite sex increases significantly. Unique Skill
[Protective Instinct]…Elicits a desire to protect from the opposite sex, making it easier to gain funding and cooperation. Unique Skill
[Woman Killer/Evil Woman]…Intimacy with the opposite sex increases significantly through sexual acts. Unique Skill
[Sexual Prowess]…No stamina loss during sexual acts with the opposite sex. Unique Skill
All of these are rare unique skills, but I can only call it “The Casanova.” It feels like they’re saying the best jobs for you are AV actor, host, or con artist.
However, I was relieved to confirm that these skills only activate with the opposite sex.
’Cause I’m normal!! There’s no way I’m getting penetrated!!
After checking the menu, I realized something: I didn’t know how to log out.
I couldn’t find any relevant option in the menu.
Maybe you can only log out at a save point or something.
Since thinking about it wasn’t helping, I started walking through the forest to look for a house.
After a while, I regretted not thinking things through.
Yeah, I got lost.
The map was there, but it didn’t show me how to get to town. I was just wandering aimlessly. And to make things worse, I was getting thirsty and hungry.
I thought the game was too realistic, but maybe it’s designed to keep you from getting too immersed.
If I don’t know the way to town, can’t figure out how to log out, what am I supposed to do? I’d love to lecture the developers for an hour.
While I was ranting about the developers, I heard rustling from the bushes behind me. When I turned around, I froze. A giant silver mantis was staring me down.
And I mean ‘huge’.
It was at least 3 meters tall. I was so shocked I fell right on my butt.
A 3-meter-tall mantis? That’s just unfair.
The mantis locked its compound eyes on me, raised its massive silver scythe, and its mouth, which had been moving frantically, twisted into a grin.
It had marked me as prey.
I tried to get up, but my legs refused to cooperate, just flailing around in fear. Then—whoosh—a huge silver sickle came down, grazing my cheek.
The pain hit, and I realized: I could actually die here.
”What the… Hey, this is just a game, right?”
I yelped in pain. My HP was dropping like crazy.
This is nuts. Way too hardcore.
The giant silver praying mantis crept closer, as if it had found some tasty prey.
I wanted to run, but if I turned my back, it’d stab me with its sickle. So, I shuffled backwards, unable to escape.
The stalemate was broken in an instant.
It pounced on me, pinning me down, trapping my limbs with its other legs, and raised its sickle to strike.
I was paralyzed by the real fear of death.
I struggled, but my limbs were useless. For a brief moment, I thought, ‘This is just a game; I can log out if I die.’ But then I remembered the pain of the sickle grazing my cheek, and panic set in.
The pain brought me back to reality.
The sickle grazed my cheek again.
The mantis’ compound eyes gleamed with a victorious glint.
Once more, the sickle grazed my cheek.
My body curled up in fear.
A warm sensation spread across my lower body.
For a moment, I thought it was blood, but then I realized—I must’ve peed myself from terror.
Bored with me, the mantis raised its sickle for the final blow.
I closed my eyes, accepting my fate, just hoping it wouldn’t hurt too much.
Then, hot liquid poured onto my face.
I stiffened in shock. ‘Is this my blood?’
But I didn’t feel any pain.
I opened my eyes. The mantis was gone, leaving only its head and sickle behind.
