Right now, I was hunting a Horn Rabbit in the grasslands on the outskirts of Abyss Vena with Milly.
The reason we were together was that we came to test some armor I had requested to Mr. Golerg.
It seemed that I wanted to choose a place without many people around to test the armor and shield I was wearing.
”Kent, try to take an attack from the Horn Rabbit.”
One Horn Rabbit in the grasslands charged at me with its horn out.
Bang!
The horn hit my armor but left not a single scratch.
’Threat detected! Emergency mode activated!’
White light erupted from the armor I was wearing, and barriers of magical physical defense unfolded in layers around me.
Then, from the large shield, a magical defense barrier of red light also unfolded in layers.
”Whoa, what is this? The barriers are so thick I can’t see the enemy.”
’Searching for threat target. Search complete. Target locked.’
A red dot appeared on the mini-map displayed at the edge of my vision.
There were about ten glowing points indicated.
’Transitioning to Genocide Mode. Specify permission for extermination.’
A pop-up window appeared in my sight with options for permission and denial.
I directed my intent toward permission.
Upon selecting permission, a blue bar indicating magical power rapidly decreased.
’Extermination permission confirmed. Firing Energy Bolt.’
An Energy Bolt shot out from a cylindrical device mounted on the back of my armor, emitting a dazzling light.
The released Energy Bolt flew straight toward the locked red glowing point without missing.
The red glowing points on the map began to disappear one by one.
The Horn Rabbit that had just attacked me was also pierced by the Energy Bolt and fell apart.
No way… that’s clearly an overkill level of power.
In addition to the Energy Bolt, there were also small cylindrical devices attached to my arms, and something resembling the hilt of a blade without a blade was installed at my waist.
I wonder what this over-the-top technology armor is…
’Threat elimination complete. Switching to rapid charge mode.’
Once the enemies were wiped out, the multiple layers of barriers folded away, revealing a new green light.
Then, I noticed the blue bar gradually recovering.
”How do you like it? This magic armor and magic shield were made for Kent. I had the top blacksmith from Abyss Vena, ‘Blacksmith Golerg’, craft this impressive armor and shield. Of course, the basic defense is top-notch, and when you take damage, it rapidly deploys physical and magic defense barriers to boost your protection. Plus, it automatically searches for and identifies surrounding enemies, firing light arrows (energy bolts) to wipe them out, and after defeating them, it can restore your health and magic. It’s an all-purpose armor.”
Milly was happily explaining the armor while looking at me.
The armor I wore was full-body and even had a special helmet, but compared to the insanely heavy plate armor I’d worn in the training ground, it was made very light, feeling only as heavy as leather armor.
”Ah, yeah. It’s light, sturdy, and an amazing piece of armor. Thanks, Milly.”
I’m grateful for what she made, but what exactly am I supposed to be fighting?
Milly can’t possibly expect S-class monsters, right?
And I really don’t get how this auto-search identification works.
For example, if it starts identifying assassins or bandits like this instead of just monsters, it’s obvious there would be dead bodies everywhere.
Honestly, I’d prefer to avoid anything too gruesome, so I guess I’ll have to ask Mr. Golerg to adjust that.
But I’m really curious how much this magic armor and shield from Milly cost.
”Mr. Golerg said you can signature it whatever you want, so what name will you give it? Please don’t leave it unnamed. He mentioned that this is a top-tier item in Grimoire, so he’d prefer it to have a name.”
Milly confirmed that this crimson armor set is a top-tier item even in Grimoire, so it must be incredibly expensive.
By the way, a “signature” refers to a specific name given to particularly excellent items, right?
Should I pick names that represent their qualities?
If that’s the case, maybe something like “Widespread Annihilation Automaton Armor (Genocide Suit)” and “Absolute Defense Shield (Perfect Shield)”?
Or I could go with simpler names based on their color like “Crimson Magic Armor” and “Crimson Magic Shield.”
Another option could be “Armor of the Light Arrow” and “Great Shield of Barriers.”
I thought of 3 names, but since it was hard to choose, I decided to let Milly, who came up with the basic concept for this armor, pick from those 3.
”Out of those 3, I think the armor for Kent, the effective leader of the Hunting Group named ‘Crimson Bride’, should be the ‘Crimson Magic Armor’ and the ‘Crimson Magic Shield’.”
I decided to go with the name that Milly chose for the inscription.
”Okay, then. We’ll go with ‘Crimson Magic Armor’ and ‘Crimson Magic Shield’. By the way, can I ask how much this is going to cost?”
I opened the forbidden door.
”Ah, hold on a second. The magic tools alone cost about 20 gold coins, and the base armor and great shield… since I brought materials from home, that was about 10 gold coins. Plus, the cost to incorporate the magic tools is another 30 gold coins, and there’s a 5 gold coin fee for Mr. Golerg and miscellaneous expenses. So that comes to roughly 65 gold coins. It cost quite a bit, but if it keeps Kent safe, it’s a cheap price to pay.”
After hearing Milly’s report about the expenses, I took another look at the armor I was wearing.
65 gold coins… That’s roughly the value of 650 million yen.
I-I wish I hadn’t asked…
”Is it really okay to spend 65 gold coins? Milly is certainly wealthy, but we have to be careful not to waste money. We still have to pay for the Hunting Group and everyone else’s salaries.”
I felt a sense of crisis regarding Milly’s spending habits.
I’m grateful for the huge amount of money she has spent on me, but honestly, it weighs heavily on my heart.
Right now, even though I’m Milly’s fiancé, I feel like too much money is being poured into my care, and it’s not even a funny situation anymore.
”Kent, you worry too much. Oh, by the way, I never told you about my assets, did I? No wonder you’d be worried.”
Milly was nodding to herself as she spoke.
I actually had never asked how much Milly’s assets were, nor had I ever been told.
”I don’t want to make you worry, so I’ll let you know. First, I have about 500 large gold coins in my Hunter Guild account from my rewards as a hunter, and I’ve lent about 200 large gold coins to the Guild. Plus, if you include the materials stored in my vault, that adds up to an easy 500 large gold coins. Just my real estate is worth around 100 large gold coins, and I earn about 2-3 large gold coins a month just from interest on loans and rent. So roughly, my total assets are around 1,300 large gold coins.”
1,300 large gold coins… out of 1 million each, that’s 13 billion… 13 billion!!
I can’t believe she has personal assets of 13 billion!
And to think, 20-30 million comes in every month without doing anything.
”If I ever seem low on money, I can just earn it back with S-class hunting. The minimum reward for S-class is 5 large gold coins, you know? Like hunting down bounties. But honestly, I don’t really want to do that.”
”I won’t let you do that, no way.”
If it comes to Milly hunting bounties, then I need to become stronger and make the money myself.
Still, Milly is an incredible celebrity.
Her family might have been well-off, but most of the wealth of the current Blackdagger family was built by Milly herself.
I realized once again how amazing Milly is.
”Well, Ms. Annabella is taking good care of the finances so we won’t end up in that situation, so Kent, all you need to do is focus on getting strong with this armor and shield.”
”Ah, yeah. With this armor that Milly gave me, I’m going to become a strong ‘Monster Hunter’ and earn a lot!”
To get stronger and earn, I’ll make good use of Milly’s gift.
After that, I encountered a Horn Rabbit a few times, but I didn’t accidentally shoot my allies, and I tested out the ‘Fireball’ mounted on my arm and the sharpness of the ‘Energy Sword’.
Today’s hunting result was 28 Horn Rabbits.”
