(Frieda’s POV)
”Alright… next is the hall of the Second Floor boss.”
At the end of the hallway, there’s a place where light is shining through.
”What should we do?”
Mona, the deputy Thief, asks.
”We just had dinner, so we’re full of energy.”
Berta adjusts her giant hammer.
”Let’s finish this quickly.”
Maddy Traeger, the Tank, grins.
When I look around at the team, they’re all smiling the same way.
(Morale is high. Let’s do this…)
If anyone had looked even a little tired, I would’ve gone back to the previous room to camp and attack in the morning, but…
”Alright. Let’s finish the investigation. ──Mona, scout ahead.”
At my order, Mona nods lightly and moves forward.

”It’s a huge hall. Not even a single rat was there…”
After Mona’s report, we all head toward the hall.
”Mona in front, Berta and Warda, Clay and me, each in pairs. ──Maddy, stay behind the 3 in front.”
Claire Achnar, holding her spear, stands next to her, and behind her, Maddy follows as I instructed.
”Amette and Bernadette, keep your magical power ready. ──Manuela, don’t you dare move forward.”
The two magicians nod from behind Maddy.
Manuela, the Porter, raises her hand in response.
”Mona.”
At my call, the Thief nods and leads the way down the hallway.

”Seems like there’s not even a single rat here.”
We peek into the hall from the entrance.
It’s much bigger than the First Floor one.
The ceiling is high too.
(This is where Ms. Liz and the others faced the horde of orcs…)
Without Mr. Hiroya in the party, they wiped out the orcs that attacked like a storm.
(“They were almost violated,” she said…)
I can’t help but shudder when I imagine such a scene.
”I enter the hall. and Bernadette prepare the magic. The 3 from the vanguard will enter the hall after attacking with magic when the enemy appears.”
After telling the team that, I drew my sword from both sides.
”Vice-Captain, I will prepare the area attack magic. Please evacuate to the edge of the hall after the enemy appears.”
Nodding at Amette’s words, I stepped into the hall.
(I don’t sense any enemy presence. Is the teleportation circle not working after all?)
With my 2 and Bernadettes ready, I walked to the center of the hall.
Eventually, I reached near the center and looked around.
(This hall is so big. There was a chance that a giant monster could be teleported here.)
After waiting for a while and seeing nothing happen, I decided it was ‘not working’ and was about to return to everyone when I sheathed my sword.
”Vice-Captain! Look at your feet!”
”The teleportation circle is activating!”
The voices of Vice-Captain Mona and magician Bernadette echoed in the hall.
Looking down, I saw the floor starting to shine.
I quickly drew my sword and ran to the corner of the hall.
A blinding light filled the hall, and I instinctively covered my eyes with the arm holding the sword.
”There’s no sign of the Demon King or Azradelius… they aren’t here.”
Lowering my hand, I looked towards the source of the voice.
In my hazy vision, a tall man in a black robe stood there.
”Oh? It seems we have a guest.”
The man smiled, narrowing his eyes as he saw me.
(Wha… what is this? This killing intent…)
The killing intent radiating from him froze my body.
For me, an A-rank adventurer, to be unable to move from this killing intent…
(Who is he…? ──No, the team!)
”Everyone, retreat! This guy is…”
The moment I shouted loudly towards the entrance of the hall, my vision was blocked.
──No, the man had closed the distance to me in an instant.
”──!”
As I jumped back, I slashed crosswise with the sword in both hands.
”Hmm… you move quite fast, don’t you? And──”
”!?”
I thought I had slashed while keeping my distance.
Yet, this man is still standing right in front of me.
Moreover, he is holding both of my arms.
”──You’re quite strong. I really like strong women.”
”L-Let go!”
””Vice-Captain!””
From the entrance of the hall, Amette and Bernadette shout, launching ‘Fire Arrows’ and ‘Light Arrows’.
(Since I’m so close to the enemy, that’s the only magic attack they can use.)
Several ‘sure-hit arrows’ fly towards the man.
”Hmph…”
The man releases my right arm and swings his left arm.
”Wha…!?”
His left arm turns into a black wing, swatting away the incoming arrows.
”Sorry for the late introduction… I’m ‘Goliath the Dragon Demon.’ One of the Demon King’s aides. You adventurers are no match for me.”
”W-Wait… you’re one of the Demon King’s aides?”
The man smiles at my words.
”So… even if you all come at me together, you won’t be able to scratch me.”
He swings his left arm, now a black wing, once more.
Then, the entrance to the hall is blocked with stone, leaving just the man and me inside.
”That said… I think it’s better if it’s just the two of us for now.”
”Vice-Captain! Vice-Captain Frieda!”
Mona and the others are shouting outside the hall.
But first, I need to get them to safety.
”Get to safety! And tell the clan… tell Raetia that the Dragon Demon Goliath has appeared!”
”But Vice-Captain!”
”I’m fine! An Azradelius-level disaster has appeared! We need to──”
The man──who claims to be the Dragon Demon Goliath──tightens his grip around my throat.
”Ngh──!”
”It’s rude to treat me the same as Azradelius. I’m stronger than him.”
Though he has been smiling, his eyes remain cold.
Under his gaze, I feel a chilling fear freeze my entire body.
”And… didn’t I say? ‘I like strong women.’”

My body, frozen in place, started to tremble slightly.

An unpleasant grin appeared on his cold face.

Suddenly, he let go of my neck, and I collapsed onto the floor.
