Volume 3 Chapter 6, Part 2 Fetal Movement

”Elf pregnancies are slower compared to Beastfolk. But soon, the Queen herself will notice it too. Sometimes… the belly protrudes in strange shapes.”

”Oh, is that so… I’m looking forward to it.”

Then the Queen and I looked at each other and chuckled softly.

* * *

”Alright everyone. We’re now less than 3 months until the deadline. I want your honest opinions on what we can do.”

Mr. Sistemador said, leading a serious strategy meeting with the Empire’s gate research team, including me, Chief Yoruku, and Baron Tethyrkan, held in a room in the royal castle.

That human sitting in the corner is the one named Stanford who got involved with Elf Sister in that other world.

He gives off a creepy vibe.

The chief from the Empire, Lieutenant Reina, is a female lizardman.

She is a tall and attractive woman with well-defined features, giving off a more striking than cute impression.

Last night, I drew a lot of power from the Queen and the baby, renewing my determination to bring Yuuta back here no matter what.

However, there are only 3 months left until the deadline set by the Senate President for this project.

If we can figure out the specific steps to capture the gate, it seems that Prime Minister Rainsheyn will continue the work even at his own expense, but will we make it in time?

”Now, let’s start with the first issue. It’s about the power unit for capturing the gate… Melon, the second-level magical engineer, please explain.”

Mr. Sistemador called on me. When I explained about the solar panel-equipped battery that I was having synthesized using alchemy at Kashiwagi Manor, the Empire’s engineers were astonished.

”That’s amazing. To think that energy can be stored and transported in small blocks the size of bricks… and that they can be connected together to create large amounts of energy when in operation. We can’t even imagine that. But will it be possible in time?”

 Lieutenant Reina asks me.

”If it’s the amount of mana energy that’s been calculated in advance, it will take about a month to complete the forging, and then it will take another month to bring it to the Royal Capital.”

Slight sighs escaped from the members at my explanation.

”That’s cutting it close. It would be ideal if a naturally occurring gate were nearby at that time…”

”There is an element of luck involved, but the set deadline applies only to the budget and this project team. If we have a viable solution, we could negotiate with the council through other means. Now, onto the second challenge: how to detect a naturally occurring gate… Baron Tethyrkan brought the past statistical data, but has Reina checked it?”

Saying this, Mr. Sistemador shifted to the next topic.

”Yes. I’ve had Stanford verify the details since yesterday. We’ll have the results in a few days…”

Lieutenant Reina was cut off by Mr. Stanford, who seemed eager to say something, prompting Mr. Sistemador to listen to him through thought.

”──No, with this sample size, it’s far too small. While we could technically set up a differential equation for statistical processing, the errors would be too large to be practical.”

It appears that Mr. Stanford is trying to accumulate past occurrences to derive some predictive calculation from their conditions.

However, it is certain that a small sample size will lead to significant errors with that approach.

 ”This won’t do, huh…”

 Mr. Sistemador also seemed disappointed.

”If so… then we must request assistance from the Royal Capital Army and the Border Defense Force, and have them contact us as soon as a gate is discovered…”

The head, Yoruku said, but Mr. Sistemador dismissed it, saying they were already doing that.

As Mr. Stanford began to shout again, Mr. Sistemador interpreted.

”Moreover, most of the cases are from the past, so it is difficult to tell if the situation is still the same today. Aren’t there more people who have been drifting into this country?”

 ”Ah!?”

I let out a strange scream when I heard that.

 ”What’s wrong, Engineer Melon?”

Mr. Sistemador looks at me suspiciously.

 ”No… well… Kashiwagi House…”

”Ah, I see! I’ve been so focused on the documents I compiled earlier…”

This time, Baron Tethyrkan raised his voice.

I explained to the puzzled faces around us.

”Right now, there are over 3 hundred people who have teleported to Kashiwagi Manor. If we obtain information about their teleportation conditions, it might help us predict what will happen…”

The statement caused a stir in the room.

It seems Mr. Stanford is immediately yelling to gather that data.

”But if we go to Kashiwagi Manor now to collect data and then come back… will we make it in time? Should we send Stanford to Kashiwagi Manor as well?”

 Lieutenant Reina suggested.

”Ah, that should be fine. I believe we can gather the data within a week.”

I said, causing disbelief in Lieutenant Reina and the others.

”No way, even if we used a swift horse, it would take 2 weeks just for the round trip, right?”

”It’s okay. We only need to collect information… We have magic communication!!”
