”But I’m not quite sure what the central barrel is for. I thought it might be a launcher for special ammunition, but the caliber doesn’t match, and there’s no dedicated casing either.”
I searched inside the shield but found nothing stored except for a belt-style ammo belt.
Then, as I observed the main body, I discovered what seemed to be a selector.
”Mr. Golerg, I found something that looks like a selector, but the writing is faded and unreadable. I think this is probably the switch for changing attack modes, but…”
”Well, let’s give it a shot! As a Blacksmith, my pride won’t let me back down now! Hmm, I wonder what’s going to happen.”
Mr. Golerg readied the magic gun, switching the selector upwards.
This time, the magic elements floating around started condensing towards what seemed to be the central barrel.
I felt my own magical power being drawn towards it.
”Hey, hold on! This doesn’t look good. I may not have a talent for magic, but I have a bad feeling about this. The amount of magic elements condensing at the tip of that barrel is no joke.”
Mr. Golerg was panicking as he saw the mass of magic elements gathering at the tip of the barrel.
As I looked at the mass, estimating its power, cold sweat ran down my back.
If it went wrong, it might be powerful enough to blow away the walls of the Abyss Vena Castle.
”Mr. Golerg! Switch the selector back! Hurry!”
”I’m trying, but the selector seems stuck; it won’t move!”
Even as he spoke, the condensed magic elements formed a glowing sphere that continued to expand.
At that moment, the surface of the shield, which had been stuck into the ground, opened up.
Then, something like legs sprang out and firmly planted themselves into the ground.
”What the?! Legs appeared!”
In that instant, I understood the meaning of the ‘Deadweight’ enchantment on the spear and shield.
I urged Mr. Golerg to recite the command word immediately.
”What! My legs are out!”
”Mr. Golerg! Recise the command words quickly! Please come now!”
”Huh? You mean the activation phrase?”
Mr. Golerg immediately recited the activation phrase.
The magi-gun, enhanced by the magic, grew heavier.
A condensed sphere of magic elements released a beam of light.
The beam gouged the ground, emitting a dazzling light as it hit the ground, creating a massive crater in the once-empty field with a loud explosion.
Aida was awestruck by its power.
”Little Lady Aida, this is more like a weapon than equipment… With this, we could probably take down 2 to 3 thousand monsters in a large-scale invasion like the last time, huh?”
”It does seem to have the power Mr. Golerg mentioned. But what should we do… Even though it’s outside the outskirts of Abyss Vena, creating such a huge hole is a big problem.”
Mr. Golerg sighed as he looked at the aftermath of the impact.
”Yeah, that hole is a problem… I got carried away.”
”Should we ask Kent to fill it back in? I heard he’s learned new magic, not Divine Magic, but earth-attribute magic, which can be used for various tasks like filling and digging.”
”Wow, there’s magic for filling and digging? That’s handy. Kent seems to have a lot of tricks up his sleeve, unlike me, who’s all about blacksmithing in black.”
Kent might grumble, but he’ll surely fix it.
But I think he’ll need physical recovery due to the immense magical exhaustion from Divine Magic.
Can’t be helped…
”We need to ask Kent to fill that hole ASAP. By the way, what kind of enemy were they expecting to fight with this equipment? The power seems way too high for any normal situation…”
”Maybe it was designed to fight beast-class monsters. Ancient times might have had stronger monsters roaming around.”
Is it an Equipment that is intended for the beast monster class?..If that were the case, it’s a real sense of power.
With Beast Monster, it was thought that if it wasn’t that powerful, it would not be possible to inflict fatal injuries.
”By the way, why did we have to recite the activation phrase (command word)?”
”Oh, the ‘Deadweight’ enchantment on that shield and spear was meant to gain weight to absorb the recoil of the blast. If we hadn’t activated it, the Equipment might have been blown away by the recoil, causing a terrible disaster.”
”So, it was using its own weight and the protruding legs to counteract the blast’s recoil…”
”That means it’s a tricky attack with a powerful recoil. Also, I sensed something during the blast; this Equipment seems to have a mechanism that condenses the magic elements in the surrounding area. If it’s fired in a place with a high concentration of magic elements, the power could be incredible.”
”So, it becomes more powerful in magic-rich hunting grounds… That’s a Monster Hunter’s dream Equipment.”
Mr. Golerg looked at the Equipment after the blast, nodding with his arms crossed.
I decided to step back into the iron enclosure for a more detailed analysis.
As I cleaned the dirt off the spear’s handle, I noticed a gauge-like object that was blinking red.
”Mr. Golerg, look at this.”
Mr. Golerg peered at the gauge I’d found.
”This might be the charging gauge for the blast we just witnessed. It’s currently empty, indicating no charge left. How should we recharge it?”
”I can try infusing it with my magic, similar to how I create magic bullets. I think I can charge it.”
”Good idea. Shall we give it a shot? We should try everything we can at this point.”
As Mr. Golerg suggested, I felt that analyzing this Equipment further might reveal technologies that could be applied to Elitzina.
I gripped the spear’s handle and concentrated my magic, just like when I create magic bullets.
As Mr. Golerg said, if we proceeded with the analysis of this equipment, it seemed to be packed with technologies that could be applied to Elitzina.
I concentrate magic powers like when I were to create magic bullets when I held the handle of the spear.
The magical power is sucked out of your body.
This feeling was the same as when creating a magic bullet.
I felt a sensation of being drawn out, then checked the gauge and saw that it had increased slightly.
But after loading just one shot, the gauge only filled a tiny bit.
So, I loaded 2 hundred shots, and the gauge filled up.
My magic power was almost depleted, but that cannon attack, powered by 2 hundred shots’ worth of magic, is an attractive trump card.
”So, this cannon requires 2 hundred shots’ worth of magic power… But its power is irresistible.”
”That’s right. Since Kent can load it himself, it’d be a perfect Equipment for Kent, right? Kent is our rear guard during hunts.”
”Then, once the analysis is done, I’ll get it polished and take it to Kent. Plus, I still need to collect the payment for the armor.”
”Kent has a lot of expenses too, so please give me a discount.”
”If you can seal that hole, I’ll give you a discount. If Sir Arbalest finds out, I’ll be in big trouble. Please ask Kent to fix it quickly.”
”Alright. So, shall we call it a day? I need to go ask Kent to refill the hole now.”
”I’ll take care of the cleaning. Lady Aida, please call Kent over here.”
I asked Mr. Golerg to clean up, then headed to Kent’s mansion.
After that, Kent reluctantly agreed to refill the hole.
When I showed him the Equipment, he started saying things like ‘cool’ and ‘combining guns is hot.’ He even came up with a name for the Equipment.
The name Kent gave it was ‘Blast Heat Gunlance (Explode Gunlance).’
I thought it was a bit of a weird name, but Kent seemed to love it.
He said he’d use it himself once our analysis is complete.
