Volume 4 Chapter 13 Demon World Outer Realm: Mount Ontake Annihilation War IV: Burning the Cradle

”Well, I just hate creatures with exoskeletons. I wish they’d keep that stuff under control.”
The handsome cross-dresser, now donned in his favorite cheongsam after tossing aside his bench coat, scattered talismans in the air with his left hand and fanned them with his iron fan in his right.
Immediately, the talismans transformed into countless white crows, pecking and scattering the small spiders that rushed forward.
”That’s unreasonable. You, omae-sama, and these modern boys are just too complicated.”
Kanbe Yuzura lowered his gaze to the ground in response to unexpected words that weren’t meant for anyone to hear.
”Oh, is it fine to help Nao?”
There, Kurikoma was laughing, having gotten her white clothes dirty with spider fluid, like a child playing in the mud, waving around a severed leg.
”By order of that omae-sama. Do you need my help?”
”Since I’m here, I’ll take advantage of it. Give me 20 seconds.”
”Understood.”
As soon as he said this, Kurikoma jumped onto the back of a nearby giant spider, piercing its belly to pull out its silk.
”Got it.”
Wrapping the silk around the mortally wounded giant spider, he held on and swung it, then hammered it down onto the swarm of smaller spiders as if using a hammer.
He quickly pulled it back and continued to throw it in again and again.
”Wow, that’s thrilling!”
Watching him laugh, Yuzura pondered whether it was the mercilessness of an ayakashi or childish cruelty──either way, it didn’t change.
”Sect of Exorcism, Sun Tian──arise, Blood Change Formation!”
Folding the iron fan, he thrust both hands forward, spinning them up and down to illustrate the Taiji through their movement.
”──Decimate!”
As Yuzura stomped the ground, a black sandstorm erupted from below the snow, swallowing the surrounding spiders and quickly turning into a pool of blood.
The thick scent of blood filled the air.
”Wow, that’s quite an impressive technique.”
”Thanks. Still, there are quite a lot of them.”
Despite having eradicated a significant number of smaller spiders, from the strange nest, they kept crawling out endlessly one after another.
Yuzura’s friend stood firm in the middle of the nest, unmoving.
(How strange)
If the distance between them opens further than the current situation, the risk of being picked off one by one will increase.
But still, it was Kazuramichi Naoshi’s way to crush strong enemies first, even if that meant carrying the burden, so I thought they sent the Shiki Oni here for that──
”Hey, how many seconds can I leave it to you?”
Feeling an instinct calling out, he asked the Shiki Oni.
”Hoh, that’s an unusual question to ask.”
Puffing out its thin chest proudly, the Oni laughed.
”I was ordered by omae-sama to protect you, right? If necessary, I can stay for as long as you need.”
”Great. In that case, one minute, please.”
* * *
”Shaah!”
In the middle of the Tsuchigumo’s nest, Naoshi unleashed a kick, blowing away the small spiders and sending them tumbling to the ground beneath the snow.
Then, Naoshi beckoned and taunted the Great Youkai still remaining on the massive rock.
”Hey, I came all this way for you! Are you just going to sit and watch? Come down, are you scared?”
The girl in the sailor uniform, poised calmly, swayed her body as if listening to her favorite music at home, showing no signs of wanting to move.
However, the Great Youkai Tsuchigumo, who had consumed Itoko’s spiritual energy, a woman in a kimono called Harugasumi, clicked her tongue in annoyance.
”Sister!”
”That’s fine, but be careful. He’s stronger than you, you know?”
”Hmph, no way that’s true.”
Saying that, Harugasumi jumped down from the massive rock.
But that was right beneath it.
If a Great Youkai possesses physical abilities, it could easily leap to Naoshi’s side in one go, but it didn’t.
Even though many paths existed in the web-like maze, it ignored them and leaped from tree to tree instead.
(No straightforward answer is coming)
Sticking out his tongue in his mind, Naoshi threw away an appropriate small spider corpse.
When it touched the white thread, it became stuck as if it had been sewn there.
But that conspicuous white thread is, in a way, a distraction.
The true intention of this nest lies in the hidden, thin and strong thread, almost invisible unless one squints.
The hint was in the severed feet of Itoko and the tsukumogami themselves.
A woman with a sword moved to the battlefield, but a newly formed Great Youkai couldn’t cut off the life-giving feet of a fighter as vivid as Itoko.
Yet, the other 2 had no noteworthy weapons.
There were conspicuously stretched threads all around.
As a final touch, Harugasumi forcefully threw the dead small spider into the area she leaped over.
”Did you realize? I’m not just some reckless fool.”
Naoshi laughed through his nose at those words coming from a little distance away.
”The one who made me aware says that? Is it a joke or something? I didn’t know tsukumogami could perform arts.”
”You never shut up…!”
Nevertheless, that thread could slice through even a small spider with considerable weight without wavering.
It must be under quite a lot of tension.
If cut carelessly, one wouldn’t know where the flailing thread would fly.
Even if the seed splits, Naoshi’s weapon, his speed, would be confined.
While retreating isn’t an option, advancing would require caution.
”Alright, I made it here. What’s up? Are you too scared to come at me?”
As expected, Harugasumi stopped a few meters away from Naoshi.
It was an overt invitation.
”Yeah, I’m scared.”
”Oh?”
”No, I’m shaking at such a low level that can only return a monkey’s imitation.”
”~~~~~~~!”
The response to the provocation was a thick, pointed branch thrown like a spear.
If he twisted his body to dodge that, a stone would come flying next.
It was a powerful pitch that wouldn’t end well if it hit, yet the primitive method made Naoshi smile naturally.
”So, hey, there’s no deep meaning behind it, but do you know about the battle of the monkeys?”
”Kill and eat it!”
Upon Harugasumi’s command, the small spider began to move vigorously.
Naoshi deliberately received the countless white threads flying from all directions with his arms.
Finally, the desired development came, and Harugasumi relaxed her mouth in a lazy smile.
”Hehe, I’ll make it a slow death…!”
She laughed while sharpening a branch she broke off from the pillar at her feet, making it pointy like a stake with her fingertips.
Little spiders crawled along the threads tangled in her arms.
(Well, that’s enough. I can’t lure them over there.)
The earth spider in a sailor uniform did not move from the giant rock.
Next to her, another member of the Ready Anti-Ayakashi Team lay sprawled, their life status unknown.
”Yuzura!”
Despite the sudden call, the response was immediate.
