Chapter 266 Utilization of Giionium
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The day after Golarf-san arrived at the frontier settlement, I was being harassed by Diana in the office.
”Neil-sama, what do you plan to do about that mountain of waste?”
”Ah, I’ll take care of it when I have some free time…”
”When will that be? I believe you said the same yesterday.”
”Yesterday was… a bit busy…”
”It’s urgent that you deal with that mountain of waste.”
”Yes…”
Shrinking in my seat under Diana’s scrutiny, the issue at hand was about the Gioniium that I promised Ronim-san yesterday. Because I said I would use it for experiments, the Gioniium dug out of the tunnel had been brought to the mansion, but the quantity was greater than expected, filling the warehouse to overflowing, resulting in a small black hill outside the mansion.
”For now, I’d like to clear out the warehouse by evening. If Neil-sama is busy, can I stack it temporarily on the hill outside?”
”Ah, sure, I’m fine with that, but…”
”But?”
”If it were the usual Diana, you wouldn’t allow leaving something that mars the view, saying, ‘This is a mansion for nobility,’ right?”
”…Is it strange?”
”No, I’m just glad. I can feel that Diana is trying to be supportive of me.”
”────! What are you suddenly saying!?”
I simply spoke my mind, but reflecting on it, it did feel embarrassing, and I began to blush along with Diana.
”Ahem, but why bring up Gioniium now? I thought the trend had passed.”
”Oh right, I remember that now that you mention it.”
I felt like I was too bad at changing topics, but I feel embarrassed about the current topics, so I decided to take this straight away.
By the way, the trend Diana mentioned refers to the interior design using Gioniium that became popular about 5 years ago. At first glance, Gioniium looks like a solid black mass, but when infused with magical power, the center of the Gioniium flickers with magic, creating a mysterious atmosphere that garnered attention.
The ease of simply infusing a nearly worthless Gioniium with magical power led to an astonishing trend across various countries, regardless of social status, but such a trend quickly faded away.
The cause was accidents resulting in injuries and fatalities due to Gioniium infused with magical power. Several incidents occurred where a Gioniium infused with magic was accidentally dropped, shattering upon impact and releasing the infused magic, causing explosions.
However, there was also an issue with those who infused large amounts of magic, wanting to make the accidents more spectacular. While it wouldn’t explode unless a significant amount of magic was infused, bad news spreads faster than good, and the word that using Gioniium for interior design was dangerous spread quickly, leading to the trend’s swift demise.
”So, what exactly will Neil-sama use Gioniium for?”
”Actually, I was thinking of conducting an experiment using Crimson.”
When Ronim-san asked if I had any ideas, I thought it was too late to come up with a new way to utilize Gioniium. But then I suddenly remembered this power within me and wondered what would happen if I infused it into Gioniium instead of magical power.
”Is it really safe to do that? Even Gioniium infused with magical power is dangerous.”
”I will take safety into consideration, which is why I want to do it properly rather than in a rush. However, I can’t neglect my duties at the frontier settlement, so I’m in a situation where I plan to do it when I can find a solid block of time.”
”I see, then I shouldn’t rush you.”
”Sorry about that. For now, please move the warehouse’s portion outside the mansion. I’ll prepare a new space in another dimension later to transfer it there.”
”Understood. Then, I will take my leave for now.”
With that, Diana left the office, leaving me alone.
Not long ago, there was always someone by my side regarding the intruder, but since I haven’t seen a hint of the intruder lately, I’ve had a bit more time alone.
Honestly, I’d rather have time alone at night than now, but since I’m most vulnerable while sleeping, someone always stays by my side.
It’s usually either Diana or Lewya, and when those 2 are busy, Zora takes on that role.
Mei also volunteered to be a bodyguard, but since she is a Duke’s daughter, not so much as a bodyguard but more as a target, Diana persuaded her.
Also, it might be rude to say it’s creepy, but when it comes to this topic, Estesia-san, who has a rivalry with Zora, seems like she would be the first to bite, yet curiously, she hasn’t volunteered to be a bodyguard, and the sheer push she had back then is just a memory now.
If I thought she lost interest in me, that wouldn’t be the case either, as apparently, she still hears about me from those who work at the mansion.
As I pondered what Estesia-san wants, there’s a knock on the office door, and Diana calls out to me.
”Neil-sama, I’ve returned.”
”Come in.”
”Excuse me…”
”What is it?”
Diana, who returned, wore a puzzled expression, and when I asked if something happened, she opened her mouth.
”Actually, just now, someone came to see Neil-sama.”
Hearing that, I immediately recalled Golarf-san’s words from yesterday.
”Who came to visit?”
”It’s a messenger from Marquis Rubal.”
I see, while it might be interesting from Golarf-san’s perspective, from mine, it’s nothing to be amused about; I groaned at Diana’s report, but that wasn’t the end of it.
”However, the person who is said to be the messenger is actually──”
”…Seriously?”
