Volume 4 Chapter 17 Demon World Outer Realm: Mount Ontake Annihilation Result: Truly, Something Terrifying

”This is ridiculous──why is it raining after the clear weather? It’s strange, isn’t it?”

Irrational, Kanbe Yuzura exhaled with a wry smile.

He quickly changed his expression, needing to check on Naoshi and Kurikoma’s injuries and, if possible, head to support the diversion team.

Surely, now that the barrier was broken, she must be weakened as well──

 ”Ugh!”

However, seeing the tsukumogami rise after being struck by lightning changed his complexion.

He called out to his friend, who was still lying on the ground beside his.

 ”Itsuki!”

”No way, no way. Look at my arm!”

Lying on her back, Mibu Itsuki raised her arms, which drooped limply from the wrists, and let out a deflated voice.

Yuzura understood that the injury was serious, yet he still raised his voice.

”Ugh, but we can’t just sit around! I’m going, even if it’s just me!”

”You don’t need to rush; it’s fine.”

 ”On what basis…ugh!”

”Naoshi won’t lose anymore; especially with the barrier in place.”

With her arms spread wide and legs crossed, Itsuki spoke calmly as if taking a nap.

Yuzura, disarmed by her demeanor, lowered his voice and pressed further.

”You two are dating, right? Aren’t you worried?”

 ”That’s why I trust him.”

”What do you mean you understand each other?”

Hmph, the handsome woman snorted, glancing sideways at her friend.

”What? You’re not going to say ‘you’re jealous’ this time?”

”Because if I did, you’d get really mad.”

”Of course, I’d definitely slap you.”

 ”How scary.”

”──Well, fine. I’m going now. You come when your injury heals.”

With a determined shoulder, Yuzura started walking.

He knew that Itsuki, with her werewolf blood, healed significantly faster than an ordinary person, so he had no hesitation in leaving her behind.

 ”Understood.”

──If only Naoshi would just say he’s worried, she’s so stubborn.

His small, audible murmur was brushed off from right to left.

* * *

Under the overcast sky, the outdated black sailor uniform felt ominous, yet under the Azure Sky, it appeared somewhat clumsy.

The disheveled hair and pale skin were equally dirty and wounded, adding to that impression.

 ”Sha────!”

Stumbling like a ghost, Tsuine attempted something, but Naoshi’s thrust, wrapped in spirit energy, pierced her torso without hesitation or mercy.

The same red blood as any human gushed forth.

Even for a Great Youkai, a thousand-year-old ayakashi, this was clearly a fatal wound.

 ”──”

Naoshi asked Tsuine, who was coughing wetly, in a very casual tone.

”Shall I make it easier for ya?”

She was no longer a threat; it was a suggestion born of mercy.

Tsuine, whose presence had weakened to that extent, slowly shook her head.

”No, I’ll pass──but still, it’s a shame that Hyogo avoided Katsuragi Mountain. What a waste.”

Pulling out her bloodied hand and waving it, Naoshi widened his eyes.

”──Dat tone, do ya know Matsurida’s old lady?”

Until last night, she was the only one in Kansai capable of manifesting barriers.

Nara was the first-class exorcist of the Matsurida family, Matsurida Kirino.

Although it’s questionable whether she effectively countered the Tsuchigumo’s barrier-breaking──the issue is that Tsuine has some grasp of Kansai’s exorcist situation.

Tsuine, who noticed Naoshi’s change in complexion due to different circumstances, narrowed her eyes with amusement.

”Kind people are everywhere, you know?”

 ”Who’s dat kind fool?”

 ”──I won’t tell.”

Tsuine placed her index finger on her lips and smiled mischievously.

Even stripped of mystery and majesty, her gestures retained a certain charm before death.

”…Still, the timing of your appearance was unfortunate. It’s truly a shame to encounter someone like Naoshi.”

”It ain’t about timing; da downfall was underestimin’ people. No matter where or who, exorcists like us won’t lose to someone like you, ya get me?”

Tsuine’s eyes widened in surprise at Naoshi’s remark.

”What da hell, ya really don’t realize it?”

”No, that’s not it. Naoshi is misunderstanding.”

 ”What do ya mean?”

”We, at least, don’t look down on humans.”

”Then what was all dat playin’ around for?”

”Because if you push too hard, it won’t work; if you scare them too much, it won’t work either──if that happens, people will bite back. You have to skillfully handle it while leaving them with hope.”

”Yeah, yeah, I got it, I got it. Classic ayakashi logic.”

”It’s the truth, okay? That’s why we were pushed over *there* and humans are multiplying so much over *here*.”

 ”……”

It seems she doesn’t want to settle for a both-sides argument.

That is a partial truth──without exorcists, no, even with them, the balance is precariously maintained.

Feeling a bit intrigued by the conversation, Naoshi looked at the woman spider again.

He peered into her ruby-like eyes, this time focusing to avoid being entranced.
