Volume 3 Chapter 18-2 Wedding Preparations

If we can even capture a newly generated natural gate, we should be able to capture it using the process we used in Tokura Village.

But without Mr. Stanford’s predictive calculations, we have no idea when we’ll be able to capture it.

Mr. Stanford said he did the predictions by hand, but even the country’s top mathematician couldn’t solve his equations.

It’s as if everything has come to a standstill, and it’s frustrating that we can’t see what’s ahead.

Karin seemed to feel the same way, and one day she approached me and said,

”Hey Big Sister Melon, can I go to the Royal Capital?”

”Hmm, are you going to Sir Aaron and Mama Akari’s wedding?”

The news of their upcoming wedding had already spread throughout the country, and the surrounding nobles were gathering in the Royal Capital to pay their respects.

”No way, I wouldn’t attend even if I got paid. It’s not that. I just want to do some research and study.”

”Wow, you’re really something else. What’s gotten into you?”

”Remember what the priest in Tokura Village said? That with surgical treatment, my right arm might become usable again. I want to learn more about that. The Royal Capital should have a lot of information, right?”

”That’s true. And if you’re going to the Royal Capital, you can stay with El-sister… that’s not a bad idea. But for your arm, El-sister might not be the best person to ask… ah, I know. Maybe the person from the museum, Mr. Panarail, might know something.”

 ”Huh, who’s that?”

”Um, you know, the person who created a human language dictionary with Mama Akari. He’s a researcher at the museum, so even if he doesn’t know himself, he might be able to introduce us to someone who does.”

”Got it. I’ll write a letter to Ms. Ellulu and ask if I can stay with her for now.”

And so, half a month later, Karin set off on a solo journey to the Royal Capital by horse-drawn carriage.

Ms. Sharlin and I saw her off, and Ms. Sharlin murmured that she would miss her.

”Yeah. It’ll be lonely, but I can’t just have her doing my laundry all the time. That girl is turning 15 soon, right? I think she should be able to live on her own thoughts now.”

”I see… You’re right. Children grow up so fast.”

* * *

 *Karin’s Perspective

”Oh. You were that little baby back then. You’ve grown quite a bit, haven’t you?”

I visited Mr. Panarail at the Royal Museum with Ms. Ellulu, and it seems he remembers me.

That said, I obviously don’t remember anything from when I was a baby.

I explained my current situation to Mr. Panarail step by step.

”I see. Mr. Yuuta won’t be coming back for a while… And I had heard about Ms. Akari, but I didn’t know the circumstances. Karin must have had a hard time too. So, about that right arm, then? I received a letter from Ms. Ellulu beforehand, and since it concerns Ms. Akari’s daughter, I tried to look into it, but… I’m sorry, I have no solid information.”

”I see…” Ms. Ellulu gently hugged my shoulders as I felt disappointed.

”You see, we Elves use magic like Heal for treating illnesses and injuries. Most things can be handled with that, and if it’s not enough, we usually accept it as fate. So when it comes to surgical treatment… I think it’s not something our kind does without relying on Heal,” Mr. Panarail said, looking genuinely sorry.

”Right. In Tokura Village, the elders would set bones and stitch wounds as best they could, but for serious injuries, we relied on the priests,” Ms. Ellulu added.

”So, Mr. Panarail, which races might have advanced medical knowledge that doesn’t rely on Heal?” I asked Mr. Panarail, unable to give up.

”Hmm. If we exclude the neighboring demon race since they use Heal, and there aren’t many Beastfolk or humans who have trained in advanced medicine, dwarves can build structures and bridges but not treat human bodies… That leaves only the spirit clan that comes to mind.”

”Spirit clan!? I’ve heard of such a tribe, but I’m not sure if it was in school or somewhere else. Ms. Ellulu seemed to be clueless as well.”

”Yes. The spirit clan is an indigenous tribe of this continent, now forced to the far west by the neighboring demonic empire. I doubt many people in our country have actually met or seen them. I don’t know much about them myself, but they supposedly don’t use mana and instead have a unique ability similar to telekinesis, allowing them to move or create objects. Perhaps they could even reconnect human nerves…”

”Mr. Panarail, I want to meet the spirit clan and talk to them!!”

”I’m afraid that’s not possible, Karin. Our country has severed diplomatic ties with them, and the neighboring country is still engaged in territorial disputes.”

”Is it really impossible? Can’t we make an exception?”

”I apologize, Karin, but it’s prohibited for our citizens to meet with the spirit clan. I don’t know the reason, but their information is surprisingly scarce.”

Although I learned about the spirit clan, Mr. Panarail didn’t have any more detailed information, and meeting them was out of the question due to the national ban.

After leaving the museum, I complained to Ms. Ellulu.

”Why can’t we meet them? Just because the neighboring country is at war? That has nothing to do with me, though…” Ms. Ellulu replied with a sigh, “But even if we could go, it’s a long way, and it’s not feasible for us.”

”Maybe I should consult with Her Majesty the Queen? After all, the child she’s carrying is my sibling as well…”

”No way, Karin! We can’t bother her with such a personal matter! Besides, if we put it that way, it would undermine Ms. Akari’s efforts… but perhaps consulting with Sir Aaron might be an option? He’s your uncle, or rather, your father-in-law, after all…”

”Eh!? Don’t say that! But… I see. It’s frustrating to have a wedding with my mother, but I’ve convinced myself in my heart that it’s all just a play… I wonder when Sir Aaron will come to the Royal Capital?”

”Hmm. The wedding is scheduled for next month, so he should arrive before that, right?”

”Alright. Then, when Sir Aaron arrives in the Royal Capital, I’ll discuss the spirit clan! Ugh. I can’t help but think I want him to come soon.”
