Chapter 13 Welcome to the Night of the Grimoire Grand Library
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Nyaaa! Master’s girlfriend—Alexia, was it?—treats Luna so cruelly! My body isn’t some fluffy stress ball, nya!”
Alexia only laughed, singing in mock sweetness. “It’s not my fault your body’s so scandalously soft, Luna. I can’t help myself~♪” She swayed her hips and broke into a teasing tune. “I know, I know~♪ Your body feels so nice~♪”
I groaned inwardly. “…stop turning that into a song, please. And for the record, Alexia is my rival, not my girlfriend, Luna-kun.”
From behind, Lala joined in, her voice a symphony of unholy devotion. “~Desuwa~♪ ~Desuwa~♪ So divine, desuwa, this texture of fluff~♪ Absolutely supreme, desuwa~♪” Before I could stop her, she pounced and began hugging Luna like a holy ritual.
Poor Luna suffered her fate with all the weary grace of a saint. “Day or night, I’m endlessly smothered, nya… poor Luna,” I muttered with sympathy—and amusement.
Then Luna stiffened. “Nyaa? Who’s that?! Another molester? Since when has anyone else been touching me, nya?!”
I sighed. “Ah, that one’s my stalker. During the day she’s busy growing her ‘church’—literally. Recruits the goblins, the farmers, even the poor merchants that Gōbu-kun brings over for ‘fun’. Converts them into her own cult. Her name’s Lala Eushuria Melektorc-chan.”
The saint candidate herself beamed proudly, waving like this was a compliment.
”She’s from Lax Empire,” I continued, “descendant of an actual saint bloodline. Somehow she ended up following me instead of saving the world.”
Luna’s tail bristled. “That’s insane, nya! Why would a proper saint be here, clinging to Luna’s fur?!”
Her cry echoed through the quiet, neon-lit streets of Connect City.
* * *
We ran through the midnight streets, a trio born of contradiction: villain, saint, and cat. I kept my hood low to vanish into the dark, but the pure white glow of Lala’s robes ruined any hope of stealth. Her blue-and-red eyes gleamed like stained glass.
Somehow, this setup screamed ‘shameless pulp novel.’ “If I ever write about this,” I muttered, “maybe I’ll call it ‘The Villainous Lord and the Saint Candidate Race Through the Night with a Cat.’ …No, that’s terrible. I’ve got zero writing talent. Sad.”
”Shin-sama,” Lala said, pointing ahead. Her voice trembled faintly. “We’ve arrived. That place there… the one where I was taken. The Grimoire Grand Library.”
She kept pace beside me effortlessly, breath steady. Only her hands betrayed her fear, clutching her chest as she looked up at the vast structure before us.
The library—one of the three great archives of Alysphere—loomed like a slumbering giant. Within its endless halls rested every kind of text imaginable: histories, magic tomes, sword manuals, even forbidden grimoires.
It shouldn’t have been here, far from the royal capital, in the wilds of Seyfried Territory. But there was reason. The Seyfried family, sworn defenders of the Regain royal house, shared its guardianship with the Churidince family, masters of spatial magic.
If invasion ever came, the Seyfrieds would fight to buy time, while the Churidinces used their teleportation arts to send the entire library to safety within the capital’s sacred ruins.
That alliance was the core of the kingdom’s defense—and also why, when Alexia and I were children, our families forced us together. Friendship, supervision, and mutual distrust all rolled into one political insurance policy.
I chuckled bitterly. “In the game’s route, Alexia gets kidnapped by the Albion Empire, I betray the Churidinces, and she ends up—well, let’s just say I lose my head. Literally. So yeah, betrayal? Not an option.”
Still, I couldn’t forget how thrilling her glare had been. “Maybe I’m just a hopeless masochist,” I whispered.
Luna squirmed in Lala’s grip, a ball of fur and indignation. “Master, don’t tell me! The reason you wanted Luna’s appraisal tonight—is it because of this library, nya?!”
”Exactly,” I said. “Inside lies a restricted vault containing the ‘Spatial Magic Codex’ authored by Lord Churidince. I need to read it.”
Lala’s voice softened, fear threading through her melody. “Shin-sama… are you truly entering the Grimoire Grand Library at night?”
”I am. Before my days at Alys Magic Academy begin, I want to master teleportation magic. For that, I need to study everything inside.”
Lala’s face dimmed, shadows flickering across her holy features. She looked heartbreakingly beautiful—so much that I felt a pang of guilt. “Poor Lala-chan,” I murmured. “Tragic yet adorable. Truly, you’re suffering cuteness incarnate.”
Oops. There it was again—that spark of excitement in me. Maybe I should see a therapist. If this world even has one.
We’d have to retrieve the missing Divine Artifact, the ivine Artifact known as the ‘Vow Script—Honorius,’ while we were here. Might as well, right? And the ‘Saint’s Hair Ornament’ on Lala’s head—yeah, that too.
In the game, once she lost that ornament, her fate spiraled downhill fast. Here in reality, though, this Lala adored me for reasons beyond mortal comprehension. The guidebook had said the ornament was a Melektorc heirloom passed through generations. Figures.
”Lala-chan,” I said softly. “Repeat after me. These words will protect you.”
Her eyes widened. “Eh? Y-Yes, Shin-sama.”
”Makoto naru Contractor, do-M delusional saint Lala Eushuria Melektorc~desuwa.”
”Ma… Makoto naru Contractor, do-M delusional saint Lala Eushuria Melektorc, ~desuwa? W-What am I even saying, desuwa?!”
She looked divine in her priestly robes while uttering the filthiest phrase I’d ever crafted. A paradox in heels—and somehow, it suited her.
Then the hair ornament on her head blazed with seven radiant lights. “Looks like it’s officially yours now, Lala-chan,” I said. “Congratulations.”
”With that protection secured,” I continued, “we head for the deepest chamber—the forbidden archive where Scribe Merlin resides.”
* * *
”Entry’s easy from the drainage tunnels,” I whispered as we crouched near the grate. “Did it dozens of times in the game, so I remember every turn.”
”Fnyaa~! It stinks down here, nya!” Luna gagged.
Lala whimpered. “Even my undergarments are soaked through~desuwa. Shin-sama!”
”Oh, really?” I grinned. “Once we reach the library, take them off and hand them to me. I’ll clean them with water magic and hang them in my room. I’ll even give you a new pair.”
Luna’s ears flattened. “…That conversation’s pure degeneracy, nya.”
Lala clasped her hands reverently. “To receive Shin-sama’s divine garments—what an honor~desuwa! After wearing them, I shall enshrine them at the Jinn Church as sacred relics!”
”…Okay,” Luna sighed. “She’s even worse, nya.”
* * *
The Grimoire Grand Library loomed before us, its ancient structure older than the Regain Kingdom itself. Its stonework was too advanced for any modern craft—a mystery even the guide explained as the legacy of the first Scribe Merlin.
Then, a metallic creak echoed. “Giii… thud!”
”Oh great,” I muttered. “Lecture later. The library’s guardian just woke up.”
[Who dares… disturb my slumber?]
Lala froze. “I know that voice. I heard it days ago… before everything went black.”
[Oho~! That voice! My beloved wife, Lala-tan! You came back for me! How touching. Don’t worry—I’ll keep you locked away forever, and we’ll share the Blessing of Lifelong Devotion, hehehe!]
”The sentient Divine Artifact—Honorius,” I breathed.
A bald middle-aged man in a swan-shaped tutu emerged, glowing faintly white. My mind shut down for a solid two seconds.
”…He—”
”…is a—”
”…pervert.”
”Pervert!” “Pervert~desuwa!” “Pervert, nyaaa!”
[De-huh! Who’re you calling a pervert?! I am Honorius, guardian of scripture and law, blessed by the goddess Alice herself!]
”Then I’ll make this quick.” I raised my blade. “After I take you down, I’ll erase your memory and keep you useful. Dark Magic—Dark Sero!”
Slice.
[Wha—?! What is that cursed power?! Never sensed anything like it! Fine—Light Magic, Dandy Lion!]
The air flashed blindingly gold. “Ugh—seriously, that’s nauseating,” I gagged as his entire lower half began to shine like a disco ball from hell.
[Behold! A sight so radiant it makes mortals avert their gaze! You intruders will witness Lala-tan’s eternal honeymoon with me!]
”Eeeek! Too disgusting, desuwaaa!”
”Ugh! My eyes, nya! I can see everything! Why does he even sparkle there, nyaaa?!”
The once-saintly Lala and my poor cat screamed as divine indecency filled the chamber. The guidebook had said artifacts reflect the minds of their keepers. Whoever bound this one had serious issues.
I sighed. “Darkness is my domain. Return false light to the abyss. Dark Magic—Black Shout.”
The floor turned to living shadow, pulling the tutu-clad horror downward.
[Wha—?! The ground—it’s swallowing me?! You’ll pay for this, brat—glub… glub…!]
Amplified by chant propagation, my Black Shout engulfed him completely.
The spell suppressed all light, silencing the room in seconds.
Lala trembled, eyes wide. “You defeated that horrid Honorius so easily, Shin-sama. Amazing~desuwa!”
”Nyaa. How many deaths and retries did it take you to get this strong, Master?” Luna muttered. “Everyone said you were the lazy Seyfried delinquent, but clearly not, nya.”
The shadows stilled. Then—thud. Silence.
Five minutes later, I released the spell and dragged the perverted artifact back up from the dark.
”Looks like it’s finally back to its proper form,” I said, watching the faintly glowing script coil in midair. “Thank the gods. I really didn’t want to haul that perverted version of Honorius home.”
Seven lights flared, bright and clean. The contract sealed itself—Shin Seyfried, Contractor.
”So this is the Vow Script, Honorius… a Divine Artifact inscribed with every art of law, confinement, and magic. Even if it’s a former degenerate, it’s powerful. Guess this counts as a win.”
Still, I shivered at the memory. “No way I’m using it in that shape again. Maybe I’ll remodel it into a cute girl if I ever need it.”
”Shin-sama!”
I blinked. “Hm? What is it, Lala-chan?”
She was kneeling before me—full dogeza, palms pressed together like she was praying to a god. My godhood, apparently. “Lala-chan, that’s my signature move. Don’t steal my identity.”
”Thank you for avenging us, Shin-sama,” she said, voice trembling.
”Eh? No, I was just retrieving a relic so Alexia could live in peace.”
Lala’s eyes shone. “How humble you are, Shin-sama…”
”Pardon?”
”We, your followers, shall serve you forever. Tonight’s miracle will be recorded as sacred history in the Church of Shin! Ahh, our glorious, divine Shin-samaaa!”
Her eyes blazed with zeal, breathing quickened. If anyone else looked at me like that, I’d call the cops—but since it was Lala, and she was cute, I let it slide.
Still, she was way too intense for someone who looked six years old. I sighed. “Well, more fanatics mean more allies, I guess. Let’s hope she grows into a sane adult someday.”
That’s why Gōbu-kun kept ‘recruiting’ talented people from neighboring nations—educators, doctors, mages—to teach at my hidden base. “Lala-chan’s lucky,” I mused. “She gets the best tutors, even if they were, uh, previously abducted.”
”Master, nya! That tiny door ahead—it probably leads to the restricted archives!”
I grinned. “Sharp eyes, Luna. Just our size, too. Let’s go, Lala-chan—time to find the teleportation grimoire.”
”Yes, Shin-sama! Lala will follow you anywhere—even to the far eastern Edo lands, desuwa!”
”Yeah, no thanks. That place sounds like a nightmare. Besides, you’re supposed to get along with Alexia at the Academy while I fade into background character mode.”
* * *
The door creaked open to reveal a surprisingly elegant chamber.
”Nice décor,” I muttered, stepping inside. I’d read these texts back when this was just a game, but the real thing felt different—alive. Some books could only be read with special eyes, especially the Teleportation Codex and Albion histories.
Apparently, that design was a prank by the game developers, ‘Maidens × Cross-dressing.’ Classic.
Here in reality, no ordinary person could read them at all.
”Let’s see… the teleportation grimoire should be on the top shelf, far back—”
”Found it, Master!” Luna’s tail flicked. “It’s right here, on the desk—with a letter addressed to you.”
”A letter? No way they’d just leave something that important—”
I froze. There it was. The same spine I’d seen countless times on-screen. The actual Teleportation Magic Tome.
”Not the same spot as in the game,” I whispered. “And this letter…”
Lala tilted her head. “Shin-sama, is that what you came here for?”
”Yeah. Let’s see what it says.”
The parchment glowed faintly as I unfolded it.
> ‘If you have grown strong enough to subdue Honorius, then you have passed my test. Take this tome as your reward. If you wish to research further, you may use this forbidden archive freely. Protect the princess until the very end—My beloved grandson, Merlin Seyfried.’
”…Wait. Merlin Seyfried? The Merlin who once saved Alysphere… was my grandfather? That was never in the game. What kind of plot twist is this?”
A chill ran down my spine. The letter faded, leaving faint motes of light that sank into the floor.
* * *
At dawn, I sent Lala back to my hideout and hurried home. The Seyfried estate library was silent except for the rustle of old pages.
”There it is—the lineage chart,” I murmured, tracing the ink. “Father’s predecessor… an elder brother twenty years older… and before him, Grandmother managed the house until he took over. He retired seven years ago due to illness… current head: Hyde Seyfried.”
Nothing about Merlin—until I noticed faint runes blooming at the edge of the last page.
> ‘The former head, Merlin Seyfried, vanished after Hyde’s birth. Still missing to this day.’
”That wasn’t in the game,” I whispered. “New information. Hidden lore after all this time.”
It made sense now—the missing events, the gaps in royal quests, the unanswered mysteries.
”The connection between House Seyfried and the Churidince family… the sealed events in the capital… even that trip to Edo.”
I closed the book slowly, heart steady but mind racing.
The game might have ended—but this world clearly hadn’t.
