Chapter 18 The High Fairy Luna and Alexia’s Diary

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The Churidince manor rested in quiet moonlight while, far away, Shin Seyfried battled fiercely beside his maid Yorn. Yet here, peace hummed like a lullaby.

”Alexia-jousama,” Sara curtsied gently, her voice carrying the grace of a practiced caretaker. “When you’re ready to sleep, please summon either me or Yura. We’ll rush to your side and keep you company.”

”Mhm! Thanks, Sara, Yura. When I get sleepy, I’ll call both of you. Then we’ll sleep together—like three rivers side by side!” Alexia giggled, hugging her pillow.

Yura chuckled. “Three rivers, huh? Got it, Alexia-jousama.”

Sara bowed again. “Yes, my lady. As you wish.”

The door clicked shut—CLICK!—and quiet laughter followed.

”Alexia’s really brightened up since coming here,” Sara murmured.

”Indeed, Sister Sara. All thanks to Shin Seyfried-sama,” Yura replied softly.

They spoke in low tones as they tidied the room. “I heard he used to be untamable, even the Duke couldn’t handle him,” Sara said with a knowing smile. “Yet the man I met was a gentleman.”

”True enough. The capital’s full of scheming nobles. You never know someone’s heart till you meet them face-to-face.”

Sara sighed with fondness. “Alexia-jousama said Shin began to change about half a year ago. Before that, she couldn’t stand him. Her letters were full of fiery complaints.”

”And now? They’re inseparable—almost like family,” Yura said, smiling.

”Yes… the King’s decision was wise. Better she grows under the Seyfried’s protection than suffocates in the capital’s envy.”

”The land’s peaceful now, and the forest’s full of light. Even old pacts between our houses still hold power if trouble ever comes.”

Sara nodded. “I hope she continues to grow with Shin by her side.”

”Then it’s our duty to guard her well. After all, Alexia-jousama’s our precious mistress!”

Sara laughed. “Always has been, always will be. Hard to believe she’ll be a student soon—Alys Magic Academy gathers the best from across the realm. She’s shy though… I worry.”

”She’ll be fine. Shin and Layla-sama will be there too. Besides, if you’re that worried, you can serve as her live-in maid again!” Yura teased. “I’d love to see you in a maid’s skirt for once, Sister. You’d look adorable, and Alexia-jousama would think so too.”

”Not in a million years. Skirts aren’t my thing. Now finish preparing breakfast, Yura.”

”Ah—! You changed the subject again! So mean, Sister Sara!”

They left laughing, their footsteps fading toward the adjoining chamber where Alexia slept.

Meanwhile, in Alexia’s room, a shimmer of dark magic curled through the air.

”My name’s Luna, nyaaa~. The High Fairy of Darkness,” a soft, lilting voice purred. “Tonight, I came on Master Shin’s orders to guard li’l Alexia again, nyaaa.”

 ”Luna-chan! You came again!”

”Course I did, sugar. Overprotective Master Shin insisted I keep an eye on ya.”

 ”Then lemme pet your fluff—”

”The moment you touch Luna’s fur at night, this fairy ain’t comin’ back no more, ya hear?”

”Wh—Nooo! I don’t want that! Luna-chan has to come visit my room every night!”

The girl flailed on the floor, kicking and waving like a stranded kitten.

”Mercy, child,” Luna sighed. “You’re fussin’ like a storm just ’cause ya can’t get your fluff fix. Your Master’s spoiled ya rotten, y’know that?”

She crossed her arms, tail flicking like a metronome. ‘I swear, this girl treats Luna like a toy that’ll fix itself if it breaks.’

”Keep up that tantrum, and I’ll tell Master Shin what you’ve been up to, nyaaa.”

”Nooo! Not that! Luna-chan, tattling to Shin-kun’s forbidden!”

The fairy’s tail twitched. “Now where’d ya pick up such fancy words, nyaa? Must be that no-good witch’s fault, huh?”

She sighed, wings flickering like dark velvet. “That woman keeps teachin’ a sweet lil’ sunshine like you all the wrong words, nyaa. Ain’t right, sugar.”

”Then I’ll behave, okay? But I still gotta write in my diary before bed!”

”Diary?” Luna tilted her head. “Ohhh, ya mean your record book, nyaa? Fine, fine. Luna’ll wait till you finish scribblin’, lil’ one.”

”Yay! Thank you, Luna-chan!” Alexia squealed—and promptly tackled her. GRAB—CREAK!

”GYAAAA! You’re squeezin’ Luna again, nyaa!”

* * *

[The first time I met Shin-kun, he looked so scary and proud.]

(Um… nice to meet you, Shin Seyfried-kun. Would you… be my friend?)

(Hah? Why’d I be friends with some outsider? I’m from the Duke family! Why’d I waste time with some weak runaway from the capital, huh?)

(Eek! But… there’s nobody else my age here…)

(Then be my underling. You do that, and I’ll let ya hang around.)

[He was terrifying. Layla-chan, his attendant, was too scared to talk to me. Every day was like walking on thorns.]

(Hey, Alexia. We’re goin’ to the lily garden. Move it.)

 (B-but it’s dangerous, Shin-kun! Just us two?)

(Tch. Quit whining and follow, outsider.)

[He dragged me everywhere. I was tired, scared, and lonely. But one day, when a goblin hit him on the head, everything changed.]

 ”Gihihii!”

 ”Shin-kun! Don’t hit Mr. Goblin! That’s mean!”

”Shut it! A Duke’s son like me can’t lose to a stupid gob—”

 ”Gihihaaa!” BONK!

”Huh?! It chopped my head—ugh!” THUD!

 ”Shin-kun!!”

 ”Gihihihi!”

”No, nooo! Don’t come any closer!”

”Hey, you! Get away from her!”

 ”…Shin-kun?”

[From that day, Shin changed. He became gentle. He taught me so many things. And now…]

”Nyaa~! Was the Master really that much of a brat back then?” Luna teased, eyes wide.

”Don’t read that! That’s my private zone!” Alexia puffed her cheeks.

”Private zone, huh. Mercy, you sure know big words for a tiny thing.”

Then Luna’s tone softened. “Guess that’s the Churidince bloodline for ya. Smart as the devil and twice as curious, nyaa. Been studyin’ teleportation for generations.”

She looked at Alexia’s silvery hair glinting in the lamp glow. “Silver-haired children get blessed by the goddess Alice herself, they say. Too clever for their own good, poor thing.”

Her tail curled. “That’s why those greedy nobles sent ya off here, huh? Master told me as much. Anyway, time to sleep, sugar. Big day tomorrow—Alys Magic Academy prep lessons, nyaa.”

”Y-yeah, I know. I just wanna write my feelings first.”

 ”Your feelings, nyaa?”

”Mhm! I wanna write how I feel about Shin-kun today.”

[Shin-kun, thank you for protecting me from that pig monster. No, thank you for always watching over me. I’m truly grateful… from your dearest Alexia.]

Luna’s ears twitched. “Hah, Master’d dance with joy if he read that, nyaa. But still… this kid’s too defenseless.”

She looked out the window toward the distant Academy. “Seyfried’s land’s safe, but Alys Academy… that place’s full of power-hungry folks. Goin’ there without a familiar? That’s suicide, nyaa.”

”Okay, all done! Luna-chan, let’s sleep together now!”

 ”…Nyaa. Alexia.”

 ”Hm? What is it?”

”You oughta find one too, sugar. Just like Master did before he enrolled.”

 ”Find what?”

”…A familiar, nyaa. Not just any critter, but a higher fairy—stronger than Luna herself.”

”A higher fairy…?” Alexia tilted her head, silver hair catching the candlelight.

”Yup, sugar. But we’ll talk more when Master’s back safe. You ‘n’ him—yer souls are tied at the hip, nyaa~.”

Later, with Shin’s blessing, Luna introduced Alexia to an old friend—a high fairy shimmering like moonlight on dark water.

”Fate-bonded? Don’t really get it, but thank you, Luna-chan!” Alexia squealed, lunging forward. “Yay!”

 ”W-wait, sugar, don’t go huggin’ Luna’s cuticle-grade body without—ACK!” GRAB! CREAAAK!

”I don’t really get it, but that means I’ll have more friends like Luna-chan!” Alexia sang, hugging tighter. CREAK CREAK CREAAAK!

”Stop, stop, nyaa! My nose’s ’bout to leak somethin’ white and scary like tofu, I swear! Where’s that monster strength comin’ from?!”

Luna gasped inwardly—this strength, this warmth. Only Shin could truly guide it. Only he could hold this tiny hurricane safely.

* * *

Meanwhile, at the Seyfried mansion gates, a figure dressed as a witch lay sprawled on the cobblestones. “Master Raichi’s down again,” I sighed. “Looks like a corpse. Let’s just… pretend we didn’t see that.”

 ”……”

GRAB! “Wait up, my cute lil’ apprentice!”

Oh no—the corpse moved. Terrifying, right?

”Could you let go, please, corpse-san? You’ve been skipping every class lately. Heard you’ve been busy ‘playing’ around town instead.”

”Uuugh, I’m sorry—ssu! I just need cash, ssu! I’m broke, man, totally broke—ssu!” GULP GULP

Shin stared. “…You’re clutching an empty sake bottle while begging, Master.”

”Pleeease! You’ve already lent me a billion from your secret funds, ssu, but it ain’t enough! The girls’ll blacklist me if I don’t spoil ’em tonight!”

”…Don’t bury your face in the dirt and cry. That’s my move.”

Even in a world of magic, losers exist. I sighed. “I really hope Alexia never turns into a woman like you.”

 ”I just want infinite money—ssu!!”

Under the full moon, Master Raichi howled like a wolf. Somewhere, dogs barked back. “Truly a public nuisance,” I noted.

* * *

Seven months later, dawn broke at the Regain Kingdom border checkpoint.

”So, we’re cleared to pass, right, officer?” I asked politely.

”Well, yes, Duke Seyfried’s crest checks out, but… uh, isn’t that a monster pulling your carriage?”

 I grinned. “Everyone, permission’s granted! Let’s move!”

”Gōbu gooo! Kyu-lalala! Nyururun! Woooo!” the creatures howled in harmony.

”We’re back in the capital! Ain’t that exciting, Ain-chan?”

 ”…Indeed, Alexia-sama.”

”Alexia-jousama, please keep your head inside the carriage!” Layla chided.

”Hehe, it’s just so good to be home!”

 ”Money… money… I want more money—ssu…” came a faint wail from behind.

”Wait! Those monsters are high-tier species! That goblin—could it be—?” the officer gasped.

 ”I don’t like sharp-eyed officers,” I sighed. “Everyone, let’s roll!”

”Wait! The law forbids unregistered monsters from entering—!”

But it was too late. The carriage thundered through the gates, laughter echoing in its wake.

 —

We made it to the capital at last, leaving Seyfried Territory behind. Guess you could call everything so far the ‘Prologue Arc’—the childhood chapter.

And what comes next? The Academy Arc. Gotta keep good relations with Alexia… and try not to lose my head in the process.

After all, this isn’t a game—it’s real life.

And in that real life, a new adventure begins.

Notes:

• Yorn – A maid who is easily delighted by Genkaku mushrooms (implied hallucinogenic). She informed Shin of the banquet.

• Sara – One of Alexia’s new maids sent from the Churidince family. She is described as sharp and composed. Twin; has a graceful smile.
