Chapter 33 Alys Magic Academy’s Freak Show Concerto

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 TL summary:

Protagonist Shin Seyfried and his follower Lala discuss the absurdity of the Alys Magic Academy student body, specifically the bizarre circumstances surrounding the 10-year-old Student Council President, Alexia. Shin struggles with Lala’s unwavering devotion, wishing her freedom, before the chapter concludes with a frantic cry from a suffering Divine Artifact.

”But still, I just can’t let this go, can I, Left?”

”Hmm? Let what go, Right?” Left murmured, distracted.

”The Student Council President! The S-T-U-D-E-N-T C-O-U-N-C-I-L P-R-E-S-I-D-E-N-T! Why in the damn world is some ten-year-old kid younger than us, the upperclassmen, been runnin’ the whole show for three years now? That ain’t right, man, no matter how you cut it.” Right groused, the frustration visible in his stance.

”Right, right… a lack of satisfaction, huh? Well, if you’re gonna complain about that, even the old President, Alice Miller-Lewis-san, was Prez since she was little, wasn’t she? I don’t even remember when she started, though.” Left pondered.

”That—that woman was different! She was in a league of her own!… I don’t really recall her achievements or when she took the seat either, but still!” Right roared, stomping a foot.

”I know, right? And all those older students who were secretly linked up with Alice Miller-Lewis got their past bad deeds ratted out to somebody, and most of ’em got expelled. The underclassmen who were left behind just tore each other apart in a bloody battle for the new President’s seat, didn’t they?” Left recounted with a dramatic shudder.

”Yeah, I was sure I thought Lili-san, Alice Miller-Lewis’s close aide, was gonna be the next President. I paid big money to join the Lili-tan fan club for that very reason, damn it! Why the hell wasn’t it Lili-tan?! Blast it all! I wanted to see Lili-tan as the Student Council President!” Right wailed, clutching his head in despair.

”Ew, gross… I think it was just a miracle of timings, don’t you? The theory-crafters and analysts even wrote about it in the magic paper¹ (mahou-shi). Here, look, I even got this issue right here.” Left said, backing away slightly, pulling out a sheet.

”A theory-crafter’s magic paper, you say?” Right squinted.

(There are various theories on why Student Council President Alexia was born…)

① Alexia Churidince belongs to the Churidince family… a prestigious noble house descended from the Regain Royal Family. Furthermore, she has the current head of the Seyfried Duke house, Hyde Duke, backing her up. [System Panel: Theory 1]

➁ Current Vice President Lilith Reiller, as well as our (the theory-crafters’) idol, Yorn-tan, are supporting Alexia-tan. Therefore, we too must support Alexia-ta… I mean, the current Student Council President Alexia-tan. At this point, it’s not just an obligation; it’s practically a primal instinct. [System Panel: Theory 2]

③ The sudden disappearance of President Alice, the exposure of countless wicked deeds by the older students, and the resulting infighting of the next generation were exploited to the maximum extent by a rising tide of new students, who maintained an unreasonable control through sheer force. [System Panel: Theory 3]

Among them, the upper-class lead by the Red Devil of the Scarlet family showed no mercy, and the underclassmen’s moral compass, Shin Seyfried, had to intervene and mediate between the upperclassmen and the Red Devil. Had he not, the situation would have certainly escalated to murder. [System Panel: Theory 3 Continued]

④ In the first place, Alexia Churidince is simply strong. It’s a complete mystery how a ten-year-old possesses that much power. Whether it’s magic or swordsmanship, she’s stronger than all the students who started studying after entering Alys Magic Academy. It’s undeniable that most of the remaining, moderate upperclassmen would be utterly defeated by her. [System Panel: Theory 4]

⑤ Someone deliberately orchestrated the downfall of the former President, Alice Miller-Lewis. This shadow ruler, who planned the mass expulsion of the wicked upperclassmen, the factional disputes, and the securing of support for Alexia from Lili-tan and Yorn-tan, pulled the strings to make Alexia Churidince the President. Rumor has it this shadow ruler is still an active student at Alys Magic Academy and is secretly eliminating those who oppose President Alexia. [System Panel: Theory 5]

〖The above is a record of analysis based on rumors gathered by the Student Council Idol Support and Bishounen² Lover Theory-Crafters Club… The gist is that the current Student Council is overflowing with cuteness, and they are our goddesses, so…〗 [System Panel: Conclusion]

 ”THAT’S USELESS TRASH!” Right bellowed.

RIIIIIP! RIIIIIP! RIIIIIP! RIIIIIP!

”Whoa! What the heck, Right! Why’d you do that?! That magic paper was practically an endangered species! It had some seriously valuable stuff written on it!” Left shrieked, lamenting the destruction.

”The writing was too damn long! And that ‘Student Council Idol Support and Bishounen Lover Theory-Crafters Club’… isn’t that just a bunch of crazies that shriek every day in some shady underground lab?!” Right scoffed, his face contorted in disbelief.

”W-what?! Who are you calling crazy?! I’m a member of that long-established, distinguished club, you know! Though, I only love the beautiful boys side of things,” Left declared, putting on a show of outrage.

”You’re a member too?! That actually explains why you had that damn magic paper! You miserable bastard!” Right yelled, suddenly understanding.

”The analysis of beautiful boys is good, Right… it has profound depth, you know. And when you talk about the three great beautiful boys of Alys Magic Academy, you’ve got Noël Churidince-kun, Nero Claudia-kun… and at the very top, of course… is the one I truly adore, Shin Seyfried-kun,” Left sighed dreamily.

”Left, you were seriously this creepy all along,” Right muttered, genuinely disturbed.

”I don’t wanna hear that from a disgusting pervert who throws away huge sums of cash on a cute girl fetish, Right.” Left retorted, his voice dripping with righteous scorn.

 (ShinLala’s Secret Room♡)

”…Is this Alys Magic Academy filled with nothing but freaks, Lala-chan?” I sighed, rubbing my temples.

”Yes, Shin-sama. At this point, the only sane ones are simply myself and you, Shin-sama—desuwa³. Therefore, let us hold our wedding reception in the Jin Cathedral tomorrow. For all eternity,” Lala declared with the conviction of a royal decree.

”…Nope. Found one right nearby. Another freak, that is. It’s a real shame. I guess the only sane people in this Alys Magic Academy are Alexia and me. A real damn shame.” I shook my head, my voice flat.

”Yes. Let us make the honeymoon a trip to the Western Paradise Isle, by all means, Shin-sama.” Lala chimed in immediately.

”Yeah, I’ll keep that in mind. By the way, haven’t I always told you that you love Alexia? I’m the bad guy who’s just going to get in the way of you two, so you need to ditch me soon.” I sighed, trying to push her away again.

”No, Shin-sama. I shall follow you for my entire life, I assure you. After all, Shin-sama is the precious person who saved Lala,” Lala avowed, her eyes unwavering.

…It’s hard to react when she says it with such a sincere (Makoto-ken) face. It’s true that if I hadn’t saved Lala-chan and the others when we met, they would’ve been on the fast track to the worst bad endings imaginable.

It’s been a few years since then, and the children from the Lax Empire, led by Lala-chan, have all gained strength on their own. They’re capable of living independently now.

I really think it’s time for them to stand on their own. Hanging around with a walking bad reputation like me is only going to make their futures uncertain. I may ‘befriend’ those who commit bad deeds or threaten Alexia, but Lala-chan and the others, who were kidnapped from the Lax Empire, are different.

These kids have first-rate talent and bloodlines. In these last few years, I’ve had various experts in different fields—who visited them, not ‘kidnapped’ them—give them an advanced education. They’ve grown into people who can succeed anywhere. I want them to believe in their own talents and live freely, carving out a future that’s bright and free, not tethered to a villainous heir who’s a walking death flag and could die at any moment.

”…Shin-sama. Is something the matter? There are tears in your eyes…” Lala noticed, her head tilting.

”Ah! No, that’s just… tears of the ‘I really want Lala-chan and the others to be happy’ variety,” I lied, wiping them away quickly.

 ”…Shin-sama.”

”More importantly, the Western Paradise Isle, huh? I really want to see Alexia in a swimsuit. You know, from my position as Alexia’s big brother figure.” I mused, immediately changing the subject.

”Hmph! Shin-sama. Are we talking about that Alexia Churidince again? I don’t wish to hear such stories, desuwa,” Lala sniffed, her displeasure evident.

”No, I really need you two to get along. For the sake of my future border slow life plan… But seriously, the conversation those upperclassmen were having earlier was utterly disgusting, Lala-chan.” I commented, circling back to the original topic.

”Oh, Shin-sama! Stop changing the subject!” Lala protested, stamping her foot.

After getting the cure for Red-kun from the Ancient City of Reincarnation, I’d teleported (teleportation magic) back to Alys Magic Academy with Lala-chan… and listening to those perverts gossip in the secret room I’d made on campus was frankly terrifying.

Seriously though, who are they calling a beautiful boy? I just happen to look like my beautiful Mother in terms of facial structure and mannerisms… I am growing into a beautiful boy, aren’t I?

Speaking of which, Alexia and Layla-chan have started calling me ‘cute’ a lot lately. And because I keep staying up late, my body hasn’t grown much, and they’ve actually started getting taller than me.

Plus, even when I lift weights, my muscles barely develop because my build is so delicate (kyasha). I just keep getting frailer. Though, in reality, I’m only torturing myself with magic power training.

Every morning, I have my Orphen-san come over to the Mirror World for sword training and to get half-killed. I really think the Saiyan-style ‘near-death power-up’ is the most efficient way to get stronger. Absolutely. I just want to see my beloved Orphen-san, and that’s enough for me. But since he keeps saying, “You must train, Shin-sama,” I end up getting half-killed every day. He’s the best, my Orphen. Orphen-san is my healing pillar—even though he’s a handsome middle-aged man (Ike-Oji).

”Shall we leave the room soon? Before the Magic Academy’s rules (…) change again.” I suggested.

 ”Yes. Understood, Shin-sama,” Lala confirmed.

That was when it happened. I heard this scream coming from the location of the two perverts:

”I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE! I CAN’T TAKE IT! Somebody, please, save me! I want to retire! I want Shin-sama! I want to be treated kindly by the beautiful boy, Shin-sama!”

 ”Shin-kun, wait up!”

”Shin-sama~! Let me hug you! Hug, hug!”

”Alexia-neesama! Give me back my clothes!”

”Layla! Give back my role already!”

 ”I hate beautiful girls now! I, I just want Shin-sama! He’s a beautiful boy and he’s kind!”

 (‘Honorius’-kun, you did great today.)

(‘Honorius’-kun, thank you so much, as always.)

(‘Honorius’-kun, you really are an amazing kid.)

”Beautiful girls are unreasonable! Shin-sama… the beautiful boy is kind!” the voice cried out in a desperate declaration.

”Left! That’s the Student Council President, Alexia-tan!”

 ”Right! That’s my Shin-kun!”

Just as I heard the soul-shattering cry of ‘Honorius’-kun, the divine artifact, a full-blown concerto (kyousoukyoku) of freaks erupted.

”‘Honorius’-kun sounds like he’s about to die, huh? Well… Divine Artifact ‘Honorius’… return to your Contractor, Shin Seyfried,” I commanded.

* * *

”Shin-sama~! Save me…” the voice began to plead, as he materialized.

I used teleportation magic to summon ‘Honorius’-kun to my side.

”Hey there, ‘Honorius’-kun, it’s been a while—” I began warmly.

”Whaaa! Shin-sama! I missed you! I missed you so much! Beautiful Boy Scent sniff sniff, inhale inhale!” ‘Honorius’ wailed, a version of me in full panic mode.

”Ah, there, there. I don’t know what happened, but you did a good job. ‘Honorius’-kun is a naughty, naughty boy,” I comforted the distressed artifact, patting its head.

”…Disgusting, desuwa,” Lala whispered, her eyes freezing over with utter contempt as she looked at ‘Honorius’—the copy of me, but more pitiful. It was a sad sight to behold.

 —

 Notes:

1 Magic Paper (Mahou-shi): This is the local version of a gossip column, fan-zine, or online forum, rendered as a physical ‘magic’ newspaper. It’s the central hub for all the academy’s bizarre theories and fan club activity.

2 Bishounen: Literally ‘beautiful youth’ or ‘beautiful boy.’ It’s a key term in otaku culture, referring to male characters with androgynous or strikingly beautiful features. In this context, it’s the subject of the club’s obsession.

3 ~desuwa: A Japanese sentence-ending particle that imparts a highly formal, aristocratic, often exaggeratedly feminine or old-fashioned tone. It’s a core part of Lala’s over-the-top, noble-lady personality, even when she’s talking nonsense.

4 ‘Honorius’ (Divine Artifact/Shinki): The Divine Artifact’s name, ‘Honorius,’ is kept for consistency. Shinki (Divine Artifact) is a common term in fantasy Japanese light novels for a special, sentient weapon or tool. Its current distress and assignment to the Student Council is a key plot point established in previous chapters.

Notes:

• Lala – Delusional saint candidate from the Lax Empire who becomes fanatically devoted to Shin, founding a religion in his name and often speaking with the quirky suffix ‘~desuwa’

• Left – A member of the ‘Student Council Idol Support and Bishounen Lover Theory-Crafters Club’ who is obsessed with analyzing beautiful boys, particularly Shin Seyfried. He defends the club’s legitimacy and provides Right with the ‘magic paper’ analysis on Alexia’s presidency, representing the ‘bishounen lover’ faction of the academy’s student body.

• Right – An upperclassman frustrated with ten-year-old Alexia’s presidency who initially supported Lilith (‘Lili-tan’) for the role. He represents the ‘cute girl fetish’ faction, rips up the magic paper in anger, and engages in heated debates with Left about the academy’s bizarre political landscape and student obsessions.

• Lilith – The Student Council Secretary who works alongside Yorn and Mars, pushing documents for Alexia to stamp while sighing at the president’s distracted behavior. She references a past promise involving underwear.

• Yorn – A maid who is easily delighted by Genkaku mushrooms (implied hallucinogenic). She informed Shin of the banquet.
