Chapter 49 A Villainous Heir’s Desperate Escape and the Price of Freedom

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

(Two days ago, aboard a luxury airship for nobles over the Scarlet Territory)

”What on earth is going on? We’re hearing rumors that the Albion Imperial Capital has been utterly destroyed by a massive earthquake, and the Senate members have vanished!” a noble demanded, his voice tight with snobbish disappointment.

”We were supposed to converge with you, then lead a huge army to sweep into the Seyfried Territory! Wasn’t that the whole plan, Count Von Ghior?” another noble whined, his voice stressed and demanding.

”What are we going to do now? All my valuables and wealth were moved to my new residence in the Imperial Capital! How do you intend to take responsibility for this?” a third noble lamented, sounding utterly panicked.

”No, no, this has to be a trap set by someone,” Count Von Ghior insisted, his voice pompous and overly defensive. “I had this exact situation anticipated!”

Lin… a brief, metallic chime.

”What pathetic excuses are you spouting now?” the first noble accused, growing colder and more critical. “You boasted that after taking the Seyfried Territory, we’d capture the Regain Royal Capital, you’d become our glorious banner, and we’d crush the unsuspecting Albion Empire army, using the surrendered soldiers to overthrow their very nation and forge a great power!”

A slightly longer, metallic chime.

”The very idea that a noble whose lineage goes back¹ to the distant past could succeed in such a power grab was a mistake from the start,” another noble scoffed, his voice dripping with contempt. “You promised us status once you seized power! Status? Now we’ve lost even our standing as Regain nobles!”

A third, faint chime.

”Just as you’d expect from a disgraced noble,” the fourth noble judged, his voice dismissive. “To misread the situation at the very last second. That’s why you’re ultimately worthless—”

Bang!

 ”—th…?”

 A heavy thud reverberated.

”Lord Shindogaru? …Count Von Ghior! What in the world have you done? Have you gone mad? Shooting a fellow conspirator, a comrade like Lord Shindogaru?” the first noble cried out, aghast.

…A tiny chime.

”Silence,” Von Ghior growled, his voice now a desperate snarl. “You insects only ever clung to me, sucking on my sweet benefits. It’s a complete loss now, so I’ll go all the way! I’ll kill every last one of you who knows my plan so this secret doesn’t escape!”

”W-what outrageous arrogance! You can’t possibly be forgiven for such a th—”

 ”You! Stop this madness!”

”Shut up! It’s all your fault to begin with! If only you’d supported my plan sooner, none of this would have had to happen!” Von Ghior shrieked, completely consumed by his self-justifying paranoia.

……A final chime.

(Ohoho… well now, I came here on the request of the Devil Brat and the Black Dragon to erase everyone’s memories, but look at this. They’re killing each other without my having to lift a finger. Regain nobles are still barbarians, aren’t they? They’ll wipe themselves out, it seems. Well then, farewell to you, barbarian nobles of Regain)

 (Over the Scarlet Territory Airspace)

Zzz…

”That’s no good, is it? They’ll eliminate themselves eventually, Black Dragon-dono,” the Footman, the guardian of the Painting Realm², observed, his tone oily and amused.

‘So be it,’ Rave, the Black Dragon of the Five Great Faeries, responded curtly. ‘Then I shall escort them North. Such ugly creatures will only cause trouble no matter where they are.’

”Then, as my reward for this task, may I claim their souls and bodies, Black Dragon-dono?” the Footman asked, his voice highly polite, clearly anticipating a gruesome prize.

‘Do as you wish,’ the Black Dragon rumbled, utterly indifferent. ‘I am only here to keep an eye on you, as you failed to execute the initial request fully. For a friend’s sake.’

”As is the collective will of the Five Great Faeries-sama…” the Footman purred, relishing his coming task.

 (Back at Rism Airport)

I’m at the airport with Lala-chan, looking out blankly at the Albion Empire for a final view. This place is exhausting.

”Alright. Everything I needed to do in the Albion Empire is finished. Let’s take the airship back to the Regain Kingdom and enjoy a comfortable trip home, shall we? Lala-chan, I bought tons of souvenirs for the folks back at Lin-kaneeshon and the Alys Magic Academy, so we can take our sweet time on the way back.” I rambled, trying to sound casual.

”…Shin-sama. That’s the thing. Scarlet-chan found out where we are…” Lala-chan murmured, her voice laced with nervous dread. “…And she came. Your lovers, Shin-sama.”

Huh? Lala-chan’s face looks super panicked. Did that disgusting Luva-san put some weird curse on her or something? Nah, couldn’t be. Wait, my lovers? What is that supposed to mean?

”My lovers… I don’t have a single person like that, Lala-chan! If anyone fits that description, it’s only you, the weirdo who calls herself my fiancée…” I muttered back, feeling a twitch of my eye.

”A-HA! I finally found you, Shin-kun!” a high-pitched, possessive voice shrieked. “And who, pray tell, is that girl next to you?!”

”Shin-sama! Are you cheating on me? Are you cheating on me when you have a dedicated maid named Layla?!” another voice, sweet but utterly distraught, wailed.

”Baka-Shin! You didn’t think you could just run wild in another country, did you?” a tough, slightly rough voice challenged.

”My little stray dog! Did you think you could just be free because your leash was off? I think a little re-education is in order, don’t you?” a stiff, haughty voice added, tinged with menace.

H-huh? That voice… it can’t be! It’s Alexia, the Heroine! And my exclusive maid-chan, and the villainess, and the elf-chan all showed up too?! Oh no!

”Sh-Shin-sama, I (formal) will be heading to rendezvous with the followers of the Shin-kyō³ and taking refuge inside the Oathbook (Honorius), if you please,” Lala-chan stammered, her voice shaking. “Alexia (the lover) is merciless when you’re involved… I-I’m terribly sorry.”

Whoosh! Lala-chan, in a frantic display of self-preservation, used the Oathbook (Honorius) to teleport to a safe location only she can access, fleeing the furious Heroines.

Sniffle… Good girl, Lala-chan! Time for me to take a page from her book and teleportation to safety too…

Grab! Groan… Snap!

”Wha—? Is this that magical tool Lala-chan developed, the one that can restrain anyone for a few minutes?” I cried out, struggling against the sudden magical bonds.

”I finally found you, Shin-kun! You are not allowed to leave me! Shin-kun must stay with me and be lovey-dovey forever!” Alexia shrieked, her face a mask of possessive joy.

”Kyaaa! You just sliced up all my clothes!” I wailed in protest. “Alexia, what are you doing?!”

Snip! In a flash, Alexia used an almost divine technique to strip all my clothes away.

”Shin-sama! I bought so many pretty outfits at the Albion Airport just now!” Layla-chan declared, her voice sweet and utterly determined. “For my adorable Shin-sama.”

And just like that, Layla-chan immediately started forcing cute, girl’s underwear onto me.

”Wait, wait, what are you doing, Layla-chan? I’m a cool guy! Why are you taking advantage of the chaos to dress me up like a girl?!” I protested, my voice skyrocketing in pitch.

”Oh, come on, it’s fine! You were certified as the number one pretty girl at the Alys Magic Academy, after all! You should just live as Shin-chan from now on!” Hollow teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “Which outfit suits my Baka-Shin best, I wonder~♪”

Hollow then gleefully started picking out clothes that would suit me.

”Clothes make the person, even for a pervert! They suit you so perfectly. My very, very cute little stray dog Shin…” Karentisia-chan murmured, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks as she looked at me with doting eyes.

”Wh-what?! Stop it, all of you! If you keep this up, my delusions will become reality! My nightmare of a life as a cross-dressing boy will actually happen! And also, my curse hasn’t been broken at all!” I screamed, feeling the final vestiges of my sanity slip.

”Haaahn♡ Shin-kun, you’re truly wonderful and so cute!” Alexia gushed.

”Shin-sama, let’s get cuter and cuter from now on!” Layla-chan chirped happily.

”Huh? Baka-Shin, you have a lizard-like mark there? What is that?” Hollow questioned, pointing at a small tattoo-like spot on my body.

”…Yes. So very, very adorable. Utterly perfect,” Karentisia-chan sighed, completely lost in her doting.

…It’s useless. The Heroine and her posse aren’t even hearing me. In that case…

”Instant Teleportation (Shuffle)… (I’m leaving the rest to you, Oathbook (Honorius)-kun!)”

I sacrificed the Oathbook (Honorius) as an offering, and in return, I was granted my freedom. Hang in there, Oathbook (Honorius)-kun! Don’t give up, Oathbook (Honorius)-kun! I’m counting on you!

”…Dyu-fuh? What is it, Shin-sama? Did you finally bring me to the promised paradise of beautiful boys you told me about a few days ago?” A confused, simpering voice asked.

”Shin-kun! Cheating means getting your head chopped off, got it?!” Alexia raged, her voice filled with pure, possessive fury.

”Shin-sama, let’s try on a maid uniform next!” Layla suggested.

”No, you’re wrong, Layla! A dress would suit Baka-Shin better!” Hollow countered.

”N-no, my stray dog would look best in a very revealing Elf outfit, obviously!” Karentisia insisted, her voice surprisingly passionate.

”Dyu-haa?! This isn’t a beautiful boys’ paradise! It’s a beautiful girls’ hell! Shin-sama, did you trick me again? Shin-sama! My ideal beautiful boy, Shin-sama! Come back! Please come back, dyu-fuhhh!” the poor, sacrificed Oathbook user wailed, his dream of a boy harem shattered.

(The border between the Seyfried Territory and the Lin-tovurm Territory)

We (plural) were saved by a precious sacrifice.

”Well then, let’s take our time and return to the Regain Kingdom together, just the two of us, Yulize-chan.”

 ”…Mm. Shin-kun… about that.”

”Hm? What is it?” I asked, gently.

”Well, I wanted to properly thank you again for everything you did.”

”Me? It’s no big deal, really. We’re going to be working together for a long time, aren’t we, Yulize-chan? Since you’re connected to my very body now.” I assured her, my voice softening.

”I still want to say it… Thank you for saving my grandmother… and for saving me… no, thank you for saving the Albion Empire! Thank you so much, Shin-kun! So, as a thank you, I want to be Shin-kun’s…” she trailed off, blushing deeply.

”Mm. Just focus on getting along with Alexia and the others, okay, Yulize-chan? Now, let’s go check on the status of the Orc female settlement first. I’ll show you all sorts of places along the way, so be prepared.”

I gently took Yulize-chan’s beautiful hand, and we started walking.

”Huh? No, I wanted to dedicate myself to Shin…” she murmured, a little confused.

And so, with my new partner, Yulize-chan, began the long, long days ahead of us—

 —

 Summary:

The chaotic noble conspiracy to overthrow the Albion Empire ends in a spectacular failure and bloody infighting aboard a luxury airship, quickly leading to their supernatural disposal by the Black Dragon and the Painting Realm Guardian. Meanwhile, the Villainous Heir, Shin, finally thinks he’s free and ready for a peaceful Regain Kingdom trip with Yulize, only to be ambushed by his four obsessed Heroines—Alexia, Layla, Hollow, and Karentisia—at the Rism Airport.

In a frantic, high-stakes battle for his freedom and clothes, Shin sacrifices the magical Oathbook (and its poor user) to make a desperate teleportation escape, leaving his tormentors in a beautiful girl’s hell! Saved by his wits and a valuable magical artifact, Shin and his new partner Yulize-chan finally begin their long journey home, leaving the Albion Empire chapter behind them.

 —

 Character Insight:

Shin’s desperation in this chapter shows a clear shift: he’s no longer just accepting his fate; he actively and chaotically fights for his freedom, demonstrating surprising tactical resolve by sacrificing the Oathbook when cornered. This dramatic escape confirms his true goal is not to be a Villainous Heir but simply to survive, though his choice of new partner, Yulize, hints at the inevitability of his reverse-harem destiny following him wherever he goes. His reaction to the forced cross-dressing reveals his deep-seated anxiety about losing control over his own identity.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

This chapter resolves the noble conspiracy subplot with a brutal, off-screen purge, confirming the ruthlessness of the world’s supernatural forces like the Black Dragon and setting up the next phase of Shin’s escape. The sudden ambush by the Heroines—which even the highly prepared Lala-chan couldn’t handle—is a powerful statement on their single-minded, unstoppable obsession with Shin, closing the Albion Empire arc on a high note of chaotic energy and establishing the new, more intimate partnership between Shin and Yulize for the journey ahead.

 T/L:

1 [Goes back]: The noble is emphasizing his ridiculously ancient, long-standing bloodline, which makes the idea of Count Von Ghior’s ‘upstart’ ambition even more offensive to him. The translation captures the snobbish contempt for a failed social climber.

2 [Painting Realm (Kaigakai)]: This is a realm related to the supernatural/spiritual world, not a physical location. The Footman is its guardian, adding to the high-fantasy lore of supernatural intervention.

3 [Shin-kyō (Religion of Shin)]: This refers to the cult/religion dedicated to Shin that Lala-chan and others secretly manage, which often serves as a network for their suspicious activities. It highlights their fanatic devotion.

Notes:

• Von Ghior – The pompous and overly defensive architect of a failed military and political coup against the Albion Empire, who tried to shift blame moments before he was executed by an unseen assassin on a luxury airship.

• Lin – Alt’s mentor, described as the ‘Great Hero who sealed the ancient dragon, Albion, who resides in the Dragon Country.’ He is suggested as someone who might possess knowledge of a cure for the dragon race’s strange disease.

• Albion Empire – A nation to the east of Regain where dragonkind is revered as divine. It is currently locked in ‘bloody, territorial chaos’ with the new Demon King’s forces in Schwert.

• Alt – A Dragonkin member of the Twelve Apostles who was researching Dragonkin-related Divine Artifacts. He becomes Shin’s primary source of information and suggests consulting his mentor, Lin, for a potential cure.

• Shindogaru – A fellow conspirator and comrade of Count Von Ghior among the ambitious nobles plotting against the Albion Empire, he was tragically shot and killed by Count Von Ghior himself aboard the luxury airship.

• Lala – Delusional saint candidate from the Lax Empire who becomes fanatically devoted to Shin, founding a religion in his name and often speaking with the quirky suffix ‘~desuwa’

• Luva – The cold, calculating Speaker of the Albion Empire’s Elder Council who proposes using political manipulation and hostages to acquire the prosperous Seyfried Territory.
