Chapter 92 The Brash Scoundrel and the Puppet Fairy King A Scenario I Never Knew Existed

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

That thing, the entity that had taken over the Fairy King’s body, was a lethal danger. If we didn’t deal with it right now, it would surely annihilate every single one of us. But what the heck were we supposed to do? The sword I’d relied on during our trip to the Lax Empire was shattered into fragments, leaving me essentially weaponless. . .

”Oh, right!” my personal useless dog (Shin) spoke up, which was just typical of him in this high-tension moment. Was he an idiot or what? “Karentisia-chan, your ‘Princess’s Silver Blade’-modoki¹ got wrecked in the fight at Lax, didn’t it? You don’t have a dedicated weapon right now, do you?”

”Huh? Well, yes, I’ve got a replacement light dagger, but I have no idea how much good it’ll do against a monster like that,” I insisted, my anxiety mounting.

”Hohou. Then I should probably hand this over to you right now, Karentisia-chan. Here…” My useless dog (Shin) pulled something out of his storage charm and passed it to me.

”…This is a Two-handed weapon? It has a strange power dwelling inside it, hasn’t it?”

”It’s your special weapon, Karentisia-chan! The shopkeeper gave it to me in that backpack. They’re the Sacred Artifacts: ‘Bifurcation of Light Shards’ and ‘Twin Fangs of Wind-Slicing’.”

White and green daggers? …And a Sacred Artifact specifically for me? What in the world did that even mean?

”Seyfried-kun. Please hurry and form a contract with the Sacred Artifact ‘Golden Wing of the Fairy King’. Before he can steal it… Hah, hah…” The Shopkeeper—no, the Fairy King’s—face looked terrible, and he clutched his chest, gasping in pain.

”Contamination, huh… Got it, then. Shopkeeper… I mean, Sacred Artifact ‘Golden Wing of the Fairy King,’ please recognize me as your Master,” Shin declared, his tone utterly casual despite the urgency.

(Yes, yes! I love a good shota!² Let’s be together for all eternity! Bzzzt.)

…The second my useless dog (Shin) touched the ‘Golden Wing of the Fairy King,’ a weird noise screamed in my mind. What was that voice? Did he form the contract? It certainly sounded casual enough.

”…It was so easy to acquire, and the contract went through right away. Isn’t this scenario going a little too smoothly, though?” Shin questioned, a hint of caution finally in his tone.

”Whew… With this, it won’t fall into the other side’s hands, and I can entrust it to the rightful owner,” the Shopkeeper sighed, relief in his voice. “And finally, the last thing I must do is stop my former friend before he becomes a true calamity.”

* * *

He was definitely stronger than the Pope of the Lax Empire, I had to admit. Now, how the heck were we going to fight him?

[A contract with the ‘Golden Wing of the Fairy King,’ you say? …I will never allow such presumptuousness! I won’t allow it, I scream!]

[Then I will kill you all!]

 [Alongside that deserter!]

[[[Let’s slay that foolish Fairy King who rejected the Calamity! Sacred Artifact Activate: ‘The King of Foul Insects’]]]

Massive swarms of bugs began to pour out of the flesh-mass, a grotesque amalgamation that looked like a failed mix of cockroaches and humanoids.

”…That’s so gross ³, ah-yep.” Elmia grumbled, wrinkling her nose.

”I’ve got the shivers, nyaa! Karen, we gotta run, nyaa!” Silvia wailed, her ears flat against her head.

”It’s useless. This is a tiny, isolated demi-world, cut off from the outside until the next moon rises. We have to defeat this Calamity ourselves,” I stated firmly, pushing down my fear.

 ”…Just us? That’s impossible, ah-yep.” Elmia’s shoulders slumped.

”Nyaa… Why do we have to fight the Fairy King, nyaa?” Silvia mewed miserably.

”…I am not in that body anymore, Seyfried-kun,” the Shopkeeper corrected, his voice tight. “I will take the vanguard. Please provide rear support. Now, I’m going in! Wind Magic: Wind Press!” The Shopkeeper’s power focused magic above the flesh-mass, intending to slam it to the ground.

[Hmph? What is this pressure… AARGH?!]

”That’s amazing, isn’t it? To have such intimate control over magic—even someone else’s magic, after your body was hijacked. That’s incredible,” Shin praised, his eyes sparkling. “Sacred Artifact Unleash: ‘Princess’s Silver Blade’ and ‘Black Shine Sheep’!” It was a tough enemy, so he was going with two Sacred Artifacts this time: the silver sword and the black sheep of death.

”Karentisia-chan. I’ll draw his attention. Use the Sacred Artifact I gave you in the meantime to carve out that flesh-mass’s heart.”

”What? How can I do that? I don’t even know how to use this Sacred Artifact…” I protested, clutching the new daggers.

”That, I will teach you,” the Shopkeeper cut in. “Elmia-chan and Silvia-chan, please assist us, too. We won’t defeat Robin Hood Goodfellow unless all five of us cooperate in this fight.”

”…Y-yeah, fine, ah-yep. Gold Lock!” Elmia grumbled, slamming her hand down to raise a rock barrier.

”Nyaa… I don’t wanna die, nyaa. Sound Magic: Sonic Jamming!” Silvia screamed, unleashing a painful, disorienting noise.

”Excellent, Karentisia-san. Just chant ‘Sacred Artifact Activate’ and hold your stance. The Sacred Artifact itself will then instruct you on how to use it,” the Shopkeeper advised, his face strained.

”The Sacred Artifact will? …I don’t really get it, but I’ll try it!” I insisted.

Everyone started moving according to the Shopkeeper’s guidance. In the game, the Fairy King went completely Dark and fought the protagonist (Alexia), but with his sanity intact, he was actually a good guy.

[…Still spouting nonsense, are you? Trying to lead your people (the insects) again, Oberon? That’s why I despise you. That exact part of you!]

”That just sounds like jealousy to me, you flesh-mass! Silver-Black Sheep!” Shin yelled back.

 ’Meeeh!! Meeeh!! …Judgement Scythe!’

I closed the distance with the flesh-mass, swinging down the ‘Princess’s Silver Blade.’ Then, a massive quantity of sharp threads shot out from the blade, slicing the flesh-mass into fine particles.

[It’s useless. I finally stole this body from Oberon… the immortality…]

SCHWING!

Predictably, the flesh-mass started to regenerate, so the Black Shine Sheep entity sliced it again with its large scythe.

 [GYAAAH!! What is this?!]

 [Is this an immortality-killer?!]

 [Who died? How many died?!]

[Barto, Rial, Sahara, Ufu, and Lilimad are dead! Curse you, curse you, what’s happening? Why did they just die?!]

Ah, so it was a collective of the retainers who betrayed the Fairy King after all. Various body parts started dropping to the ground from the flesh-mass. Those were probably the corpses of the retainers who died inside the mass and were then severed.

”Fairies are long-lived, you know. You’re the absolute worst match for Black Shine Sheep, who can kill immortality, aren’t you?” Shin chuckled, completely ignoring the horror.

 ’Meeeh!!’

 […YOU!!!]

”…Don’t you dare look away, ah-yep! Punish!” Elmia bellowed, slamming a rock fist into the monster.

”Nyaa, you’re gonna pay for threatening us, nyaa! Sonic Slash!” Silvia shrieked, sending a razor-sharp wave of sound.

[Dark Elf and Cat Person. Are you two daring to defy me, too? You, who were nothing more than weaklings bowing your heads yesterday. Sacred Artifact Unleash: ‘Abhorrent Insect’]

It was too shallow. Their attacks were ineffective, and the flesh-mass easily stopped them. This was bad—if the flesh-mass touched them, they would get contaminated.

”Black Shine Sheep! Go help them! After that, just keep fighting while offering support,” Shin commanded, his voice suddenly sharp.

’Meeh… Understood,’ the sheep entity responded.

”…I-i-it’s not working, ah-yep!” Elmia gasped.

”Nyaa! The gross bugs are swarming us, nyaa!” Silvia cried out.

[Ghihih… I wanted to see that despairing face. Yours, the Fairy King Oberon, of the Forest People. ‘Insect’s Supper’]

’You will not. Calamity… Deep Abyss of Obsidian,’ Black Shine Sheep boomed, standing between the girls and the swarm.

[…You are… Could you be?! Why are you on that side? You are supposed to be…]

SCHWING!

’Silence, little worm… It will take you a few millennia before you can speak to me,’ the entity’s presence seemed to roar.

Did the Black Shine Sheep and the flesh-mass just have a little chat? Maybe I imagined it. Oh well. Thanks to that moment of distraction and Black Shine Sheep’s attack, the core of the flesh-mass was now wide open.

”Shopkeeper! Karentisia-chan! It’s your turn! This is a short-term battle. Finish it now!” Shin insisted.

”Hehe! Thank you, Seyfried (Young Master)! Karentisia-san, unleash the technique I taught you earlier. I will create the opening! Wind Magic: Wind Veil!” The Shopkeeper insisted, throwing up a turbulent shield of wind.

”R-right, I understand! …Sacred Artifact Unleash: ‘Bifurcation of Light Shards’ and ‘Twin Fangs of Wind-Slicing’────Finality: Twin-Walled Fairy Spiral!”

It was a clean and quiet activation. Without a sound, the attack silently destroyed the core of the flesh-mass. For a moment, the air was utterly still, and then the body of the composite monster, Robin Hood Goodfellow, began to crumble from the feet up, making no noise at all.

 Summary:

In a desperate, high-stakes battle against the terrifying flesh-mass that usurped the Fairy King’s body, Karentisia and her companions faced an impossible foe. The ever-loyal Shin gifted Karentisia with a powerful, specialized Sacred Artifact just in time. While the true Fairy King and the others provided crucial support and distraction, Shin’s anti-immortality artifact, the Black Shine Sheep, opened a critical weakness in the regenerating monster. Using her new twin daggers and the ultimate ability, Karentisia delivered a silent, decisive blow, finally shattering the Calamity’s core in the golden-skied demi-world. This chapter of the fantasy adventure proved that even the most feared foes have a weakness.

 —

 Character Insight:

Karentisia’s inner voice reveals her true, anxious feelings and her tendency to use her ‘useless dog’ moniker for Shin as a coping mechanism for relying on him. Her determination, even when facing a truly grotesque horror without a weapon, solidifies her as a strong heroine. Shin, the seemingly casual companion, displays his genuine unwavering loyalty and strategic depth by ensuring Karentisia is equipped with her most specialized Sacred Artifact at the moment of highest danger, proving he is far from useless.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

The chapter’s climax confirms a huge twist in the Yuri RPG’s lore: the Fairy King Oberon, who was supposed to become a Dark-aligned boss character in the original game scenario, retains his sanity in this timeline due to different events and actively helps the party. The flesh-mass monster is revealed to be a collective of the long-lived, vengeful Fairy retainers, explaining its immortality and fragmented personality, which the Black Shine Sheep artifact is uniquely designed to combat. The successful use of Karentisia’s new specialized Sacred Artifact marks a major power-up for the protagonist.

 —

 T/L:

¹ Modoki (擬き) is a Japanese suffix meaning ‘imitation,’ ‘mock,’ or ‘pseudo.’ It indicates the sword was a copy or substitute for the true Sacred Artifact.

² Shota (ショタ) is an anime/manga term referring to a young, pre-pubescent boy, or a boyish-looking male. The Sacred Artifact’s personality is clearly fond of young male users.

³ Gross (キモい) in this context is a common slang term, Kimoi, short for Kimochi Warui, meaning ‘feels bad,’ ‘disgusting,’ or ‘creepy.’ It’s used here to capture the roughness of Elmia’s dialect.

Notes:

• Silvia – Another one of the ‘Hidden Eroins’ from the original game, her full background is not revealed in this chapter, but she is highly protective of ‘Karen’ (Karentisia) and recognizes the Protagonist’s Sacred Artifact. She is easily angered and speaks with an intense, aggressive cat dialect.

• Oberon – The former Fairy King, currently appearing as the ‘Mysterious Shopkeeper’ but revealing his true identity. He is a wise, cryptic figure who helped Seyfried eliminate a future threat at the cost of his physical form.
