Apocalypse Saga 68

Chapter 68 The Report Received

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Less than an hour after the messenger arrived in Charles’s bedroom, the Minister of the Right and Minister of the Left came to the office.

Entering the office with Satsuki, the summoned Minister of the Right and Minister of the Left knelt down. Behind them was a messenger from “Beastars” named Ponchio.

The two rushed to the castle with just the bare minimum of attire. As for Esmeralda, even though she’s a vampire, she was sleeping at night, completely opposite to humans who are awake during the day.

 Anyway.

 ”Relax.”

Charles said, quickly getting the two to stand up as he sat down in the office chair.

”Do you know why I called you so late?”

”I heard a messenger came from Carnad Mountain. I don’t know the details yet.”

”I’m in the same boat as the Minister of the Left.”

While lighting a cigar on his desk, Charles nodded slowly a few times at their responses, thinking “I figured as much.” His order was just to call them, and it was up to him how much to share; the messenger had no say in it.

Well, there wasn’t any secret information to hide. In fact, there was important information to share. If they found out later or heard it from someone else, it could cause unnecessary confusion and conflict, like a ticking bomb.

”Now, report again. What happened at Carnad Mountain?”

 ”Yes, sir!”

Then the messenger told everything that happened to “Beastars.” It was straightforward and accurate, with no extra information or guesses.

 He said,

 - They encountered the enemy at Carnad Mountain.

 - There were casualties in the unit during the battle.

 - The enemy fought against Melissa.

 - The enemy called themselves Bozero Delica and was not the one who attacked Goldgang. They had no intention to fight.

 - They teleported to this world with their groups “Night Bats” and “Ruined Castle Grantham.”

 - “Ruined Castle Grantham” was destroyed by the enemy, and the dungeon master “Fluffy Cream” was also killed.

 - Bozero Delica has teleported to this world and become a guest of Crimson Jack in Fuckland.

 - The true identity of the real enemy is still unknown.

After taking a moment to gather my thoughts and ask again, it’s still hard to understand. It’s not just the amount of information, but also the content.

He knew there was some kind of enemy out there. But when he opened the lid, two new forces appeared. Both were known, and to top it off, one of them has already been destroyed, so it’s no wonder he’s confused.

Still, he managed to stay calm on the surface, probably because he’s settled into his role as a ruler. If it had been right after the teleportation, he might have panicked. The purple flames he spat out must show his sadness and confusion to everyone.

But even that was hidden by Esmeralda, who was way more upset than Charles.

”Bozero Delica… has she also come to this world?”

 ”Yes. She fought with Melissa-sama.”

The fact that her sister has teleported to this world and become a vengeful spirit after her master was killed was more than enough to shake Esmeralda.

 ”This is…”

Esmeralda is usually calm and collected. It’s rare to see her flustered and pacing around. Charles couldn’t immediately tell what emotions were swirling in her eyes, but it surely wasn’t pure joy.

According to reports, Bozero Delica fought Melissa, and it ended in a draw.

”Beastars” has strong warriors, and in a group battle, they could reach level 200, but it makes sense if Bozero Delica ambushed them.

The creator of Bozero Delica is “NearHero,” one of the 3 great dungeon masters alongside Charles. There’s even a view that NearHero’s greatest masterpiece is Bozero Delica, as she is known to be particularly strong among level 200 monsters.

What troubles those who face her the most is the way she controls the distance in battle.

In raids or PVP, it’s common skill to guess the type of enemy attacks by looking at skill effects.

But Bozero Delica is tricky. It’s a kind of surprise attack.

The trick is that it mixes the sword skills of [sword saint] and [Unbeatable Warrior] when attacking.

These 2 are completely different skills, but they have similar effects that players often joke about. It’s hard to tell them apart in an instant, but the attack paths and ranges are different, which can confuse enemies with complex combo attacks. This was a popular advanced technique among PVP-loving players for a while.

Since it takes up 2 of the limited slots, it has faded away, but NearHero left that technique with Bozero Delica…

”That girl is not really a force attacking Goldgang─noja!”

Charles, lost in thought about Bozero Delica, gets hit hard by Esmeralda’s tense shout.

”Yes. I swear my innocence in the name of NearHero-sama and Fluffy Cream-sama.”

 ”Then she’s not guilty… but!”

”Minister of the Right. You should calm down.”

”How can I calm down!? It’s not just my comrades who are here in this world. That girl is causing deaths in ‘Beastars’──no way!?”

Esmeralda raises her voice. She looks ready to grab Faelrith by the collar, her expression is literally fierce.

It’s understandable. This situation may not directly involve Esmeralda, but since Bozero Delica is at the center of the topic, she can’t just ignore it.

”Minister of the Right-dono!! In front of the Lord!”

But Satsuki’s sharp words help her regain a bit of calm.

When Esmeralda turns around with wide eyes, she sees Charles looking shocked.

 ”I-I’m so sorry.”

”…It’s fine. I understand how you feel.”

Charles stopped Esmeralda, who was panicking and bowing down, and looked at the messenger who was hiding a bit further back to change the mood.

”So, in the end, we couldn’t find the real enemy, huh?”

”Yes. We didn’t manage to find the enemy. I’m really sorry.”

”If we couldn’t find them with ‘Beastars,’ then there’s nothing we can do.”

It’s important that Bozero Delica and Fuckland were there, but the biggest problem is this.

”The enemy lured out Babellion. And they also tried to make Bozero Delica fight. Is that what happened?”

 ”That’s a natural way to think, but…”

 Charles hesitated for a reason.

”…They wouldn’t just lure us in and then leave us alone. They must have had some kind of plan. At the very least, there should have been someone watching.”

Two dungeons that didn’t know about each other met, both chasing what seemed to be the same enemy. It couldn’t be just a coincidence.

 ”…I can’t read it. I don’t understand.”

Charles was frustrated in his mind.

”Why do they have such power to toy with us, yet only use these tricky methods?”

Even though he’s a gamer, he’s just an ordinary person who likes games. Unlike stories with cheat-like teleportation, reality doesn’t allow for quick thinking of complex strategies. Charles felt the same way.

Still, it seemed too careless and not like a well-thought-out plan. He wouldn’t say it’s childish, but… the fact that they don’t just attack head-on makes it even more confusing and scary.

”There might be a reason they can’t move their army.”

 ”Oh? What do you mean?”

 Charles looked up at Faelrith.

”There’s a chance the distance is too far. They might have other fronts to deal with and not enough extra forces.”

”I see. So, their poking attacks mean they can’t move their army…”

Charles crossed his arms and muttered softly.

”But even if that’s the case, it feels off. Why go through all that trouble to mess with Babellion?”

 ”That’s definitely true.”

”I didn’t care about those guys at all. So, there’s no need to get involved.”

”There’s a chance they have some kind of obsession.”

 ”…Obsession, huh…”

”Some people have a strange fixation on conquering the continent, wanting to be the only king, and having status or honor. They sometimes throw away rational thinking.”

”I can’t believe it. It makes more sense to think they just want to annoy us.”

If the enemy’s watcher was at the place where Bozero Delica and Melissa fought, it means they were hiding without being noticed among the gathering of “Beastars.” Is there really a force that can make a Monster perform so well against an elite team made up of beastmen with high search abilities?

Or maybe something is fundamentally off. For example, what seems obvious to Charles might not be the same for the enemy.

It feels like Charles is talking about math while the enemy is talking about physics.

 ”This is getting annoying…”

 That was Charles’s true feeling.

”We should raise our overall alertness. I don’t want to spread our forces too thin.”

There aren’t many level 200s around. Most of them are placed as bosses in key areas within Babellion. Bringing them out would weaken Babellion’s defenses.

And even if he group them all as level 200 subordinates, their personalities are all different. Each one has their quirks.

”There’s also the issue of who to choose. For example, do you think sending Azuriela would get the job done?”

What would happen if someone like Azuriela was sent to the feudal prince city? There aren’t many like her, but surprisingly, there are few subordinates who can interact with humans in an intelligent manner.

”If it’s about life, I or the Minister of the Left would go…”

”Impossible. You have your roles. You can’t afford to go out.”

 ”That’s true.”

Esmeralda and Faelrith look like they have nothing to do, but being the Minister of the Right and Minister of the Left means they can’t just sit back and relax. They handle important work on the defense floor and the living area floor, gathering reports and requests, and solving problems. It’s a tough job.

If they go outside of Babellion, they have to deal with humans. Esmeralda and Faelrith might seem normal, but they’re not. The first one sees humans as food or toys to do whatever with, while the second one thinks of them as bugs, with no interest at all.

Still, if they’re told to protect something, they would do their job perfectly. So, in that sense, they are decent, but as mentioned before, sending them outside would cause problems for running Babellion.

Charles can think of one of the 4 army leaders. But the 4th army leader, Papeltico, is out of the question.

”Let’s think about the selection again after Felshiol comes back.”

It’s a somewhat urgent matter, but it’s sensitive and can’t be decided on a whim. It’s not easy to just swap someone else in.

At the same time, they need to hurry with the Saint Tower Faith’s mission. This project isn’t just about gathering people’s hearts through religion. It also means expanding our base of operations by building churches in various places.

”If they come at us head-on, we’ll crush them fair and square… they’re a troublesome enemy. There’s a lot to think about.”

”My lord, your face… if you’re not feeling well, would you like some hot water or something?”

Satsuki’s voice trembled, as if the panic from earlier with Esmeralda was spreading. When he glanced at the mirror on the desk, he could see that his face had lost its color.

But it wasn’t because he was scared of the creepy enemy.

”…It’s sad that Fluffy Cream was defeated… it really is. That man was my friend…”

Deep sadness filled Charles’s heart. The feeling that he didn’t have time to grieve was pushed to the back of his mind, but it bubbled up with his words.

Ruined Castle Grantham wasn’t a tough dungeon. Fluffy Cream didn’t spend too much time or money on it because he had a family.

Still, there was a level 200 dragon, either [Azure Dragon (青龍)] or [Shen Long]… but besides that dragon, there wasn’t much else. It was more for fun, like character creation, rather than serious fighting. The dungeon focused a lot on visuals, so if it got attacked while Bozero Delica was away, it wouldn’t be surprising if it fell.

But that’s not the main issue.

Fluffy Cream was definitely a friend. He was a nice guy, always polite and respectful to everyone, and he always had a cheerful smile.

They fought together in raid events, and we’ve been friends for a long time. NearHero felt the same way, which is why he entrusted half of Bozero Delica and Night Bats to him.

”…but being sad won’t solve anything.”

If he can honor Fluffy Cream, it would be through revenge. He won’t let himself be consumed by a desire for revenge. But the enemy is definitely targeting Babellion, so it naturally leads to that kind of talk.

The fire of determination burns deep in Charles’s eyes.

It’s a feeling of not letting them get away with this, and a reminder that we shouldn’t create more avengers like Bozero Delica.

”The enemy is targeting Babellion. So we will crush them. That won’t change.”
