Volume 10 Chapter 8 You Can’t Escape from the Guild Master

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Accompanied by Thomas and his group, I watched Henriette as she was quietly taken away to Karl.

Roswitha-san called out, and Haida-san remained behind.

It would be nice if she was reflecting on her actions, but I really don’t understand girls of that sort.

After all, she was trying to frame Dietlinde-san behind that smiling smile.

”Now then, this brings things to an end. Let us return to our normal duties shortly,” Randolph said.

”I wonder what you are talking about?” Roswitha replied.

 ”Huh?”

Randolph, who had faded into the background during the second half, tried to take charge and bring things to an ambiguous conclusion, but Roswitha could not be deceived.

”The one who does not understand what is being said is me. The Inquisitor has already certified that Henriette is the culprit, and I have not committed any criminal acts. You also heard her state herself that she was a solo offender, did you not, Guild Master?” Randolph said.

”Indeed, it seems you did not commit a criminal act,” Roswitha said.

”If that is the case, there should be no reason for me to be disciplined. Since I cooperated in handing her over to the guards after the culprit was determined, it would not even be strange for me to be praised instead,” Randolph replied.

Boasting fluently with a triumphant look, it seemed he still possessed the confidence to escape.

Despite having so much exposed, he had an incredibly thick skin.

However, there was a grain of truth in what the guy said.

Unless the opponent was a noble, things like intimidation or threats did not constitute a crime.

Unlike my previous life in Japan, he could not be treated as a criminal just for that harassment toward Dietlinde-san.

But Roswitha was not fooled by such sophistry.

”Even if they were not criminal acts, multiple violations of the Guild’s employment regulations have been confirmed. Romance within the workplace is not a problem at all, but forcing a relationship by taking advantage of your position is unacceptable,” Roswitha said.

”Th-that is… rather, it was something she (Henriette) sought out…” Randolph stammered.

”That is a ‘lie’,” Haida stated.

 ”Guh…”

Haida saw through the guy’s lie.

The reason she had gone through the trouble of staying behind was because the interrogation of him had not yet finished.

”Sexual intercourse within the workplace is also a regulation violation. Regarding Henriette, there are at least these two instances of regulation violations. Furthermore, you told Henriette that you would ‘turn a blind eye’ regarding the assault, injury, and other harassment toward Dietlinde,” Roswitha said.

 ”……”

”If you do not argue back, I will take it as an affirmation. During the investigation stage earlier which you were running, you ignored Dietlinde’s or rather simple and intimidating suppressed her, while unconditionally adopting only Henriette’s opinion. Failing to treat subordinate personnel fairly is an act unbefitting of a Department Head, and this too is a regulation violation,” Roswitha continued.

 ”…Is that, so,” Randolph muttered.

The facts inconvenient for Randolph were flatly pointed out by Roswitha, and he could not argue back in front of the Inquisitor.

However, I could tell he was considerably irritated.

Yet, this was not the end.

”In addition, there is your repeated daily neglect of work. Naturally, this is also a regulation violation. I have warned you many times up until now, but you showed no stance toward improvement. In the first place, if you had properly checked the documents on a regular basis, an incident like this would not have occurred,” Roswitha said.

”……Regarding that, I am terribly sorry,” Randolph said.

Since the guy’s signature was on the approval documents, they were supposed to have been checked.

However, it seemed he passed them through without looking at all, so the checking was truly just a formality.

From a subordinate’s perspective, he was an easy boss in a certain sense, but I wondered how work managed to go around with someone like this.

Because he could not make excuses while the Inquisitor was present, the guy also showed a posture of apology for the time being.

Although it was obvious to anyone’s eyes that he was doing it extremely reluctantly.

”Taking these into consideration, Randolph is demoted. Effective immediately, you are an apprentice, positioned below the regular staff,” Roswitha declared.

”What, after letting you speak…! Don’t joke around! How can such a discipline be accepted?!” Randolph roared.

Dissatisfied with the punishment, Randolph tried to intimidate and silence Roswitha by blasting his magical power.

From the lack of hesitation in this series of actions, he had probably gotten through situations using this method whenever things became inconvenient up until now.

”I am not joking around,” Roswitha said.

”What? It’s… not working?” Randolph gasped.

”…I can imagine what you tried to do, but it seems that Intimidation Skills¹ has become unusable,” Roswitha replied.

”No way! ‘That’ can’t be used?! Without that, I…”

The intimidation that was Randolph’s trump card ended in a misfire, and he was flustered by the fact that his Skills could not be used.

Because he had done whatever he pleased with Intimidation Skills until now, once he couldn’t use it, he had no choice but to negotiate normally.

Needless to say, the one who Sealed his Skills was me.

Because Roswitha glanced briefly toward me, she seemed to have noticed vaguely even without evidence.

By the way, I also Sealed Henriette’s Disguise Skills² beforehand.

The guy’s intimidation Skill level was five.

Despite his Level being only around ten, his Skill level was abnormally high, so there was no doubt he had used it on a daily basis.

As long as he possessed these Skills, it was clear he would use them for evil deeds in the future as well.

Above all, to protect Dietlinde-san, Sealing them was the best option.

I also Sealed all other Skills that seemed usable for evil deeds.

It might cause a bit of inconvenience in his daily life, but it was none of my business.

”Kuh, but I am one who holds a family name connected to nobility! The prestigious Viscount house, Be-Ren—” Randolph blustered.

”Ah, confirmation has already been made with your ‘backer’. They said, ‘We can no longer fully shield that fool. Dispose of him as you please,’” Roswitha cut in.

 ”No, way…!”

It seemed Randolph was abandoned by his family, or rather, his backer, the Be-something Viscount house.

They exist occasionally, don’t they—the problem children who get abandoned.

”I had already lodged complaints many times regarding your repeated problems up until now. This time it happened to turn into a major incident, but I already notified them that if they shielded you any further than this, we would refuse requests from the Viscount house in the future, and this decision is likely the response to that. Naturally, I have obtained the Grand Master’s permission,” Roswitha said.

”Gnuuuu~! For me, to…!” Randolph groaned.

His face was completely red and his blood vessels looked ready to burst.

The Grand Master that Roswitha mentioned must be the most important person in the Adventurer’s Guild.

In other words, since groundwork had been laid in various places, no matter how much the guy barked, it would not be overturned.

”Even if I am fine with it, my subordinates will not accept it! You guys, do you have something to say about the Guild Master’s tyranny?!” Randolph shouted.

If the top was no good, then from the bottom—was that his thought?

With a mysterious confidence, the guy sought agreement from the staff of the Quest Mediation Department, who were his subordinates.

”Rather than tyranny, isn’t it like, totally valid? Just saying,” one of the trio said.

”Do you even know what valid means?” the second asked.

 ”Nope?”

”So random, lmao, literally dead,” the third giggled.

”Gosh, you’re such an idiot—it means total validation, like validation of an enemy.”

”Eh, isn’t that wrong? Isn’t it that monster with a ton of heads, like a Hydra?”

”That is absolutely wrong! You guys don’t get it either! Don’t make it sound like I’m the only idiot!”

The Black Gyaru Trio answered, but because all three of them were random and moved at their own pace, it was doubtful whether they were answering seriously.

Well, I could at least understand that the guy was not liked.

”Kuh, these girls are too stupid to be of any use…! Hey, you guys, it would be troublesome for you if I became an apprentice, right? The one who managed things well up until now was me, you know? Is it really fine with you for me to be demoted?” Randolph pleaded.

 ”Not really bothered either way~”

 ”True~ it’s not like there’s anything troublesome for us~”

”I don’t have anything to oppose either,” the male staff members murmured.

 ”You ungrateful wretches!” Randolph spat.

This time he sought agreement from his male subordinates, but the handsome twins and the bearded handsome older guy did not follow along with Randolph either.

The idea that he was well-liked by his subordinates was entirely his own delusion.

I knew it all along, though.

”It seems there are no more counterarguments. Discharges would have been fine as a punishment, but the judgment was that managing a criminal-in-training on hand is better than releasing him into the wild. If being an apprentice is unsatisfying, I will discharge you, so which would you prefer?” Roswitha asked.

”Kuh……An apprentice, is fine,” Randolph muttered.

”Is fine? Meaning it is fine even if it is a discharge, yes?” Roswitha pressed.

”Please make me an apprentice!” Randolph yelled.

”Well, very well. However, there will not be a next time. Taking your past history into consideration, I will strictly guide and supervise you, and if there is any speech or conduct unbefitting of an apprentice, I will discharge you immediately. Be prepared for it,” Roswitha concluded.

 ”…Yes.”

The guy’s counterattack was completely blocked, resulting in Roswitha’s total victory.

Randolph, who collapsed forward with his shoulders dropped, should reflect deeply on his actions.

”Roswitha-san, may I say one word from myself?” I asked.

”What is it?” Roswitha turned to me.

”Randolph, regarding your unfair treatment toward Dietlinde-san, I haven’t forgiven you,” I said.

 ”What? You…!” Randolph glared.

”Don’t talk big when you’re a mere apprentice. According to your logic, one must submit to superiors, right?” I countered.

 ”Guh… you youngster…!”

There was no longer any reason to use polite speech with Randolph.

Changing one’s attitude based on looking at the opponent should also be permitted depending on the time and situation.

 Surely.

Since the opportunity presented itself, I would have him experience the Intimidation Skills that he had used so extensively up until now.

”More importantly, I will warn you about one thing. If you harbor a grudge and launch an attack or harassment against Dietlinde-san, don’t think it will end at the level of a mere criminal Slave,” I growled.

 ”Hieee!”

Randolph, who did not possess fear resistance, gave way at the knees and turned completely pale.

I thought about making him snap and attack me so I could chop him into fine pieces, but that would end up being excessive defense.

If the opponent were a criminal like bandits, it would be a different story, but doing that much could risk making me liable for a crime as well.

He wasn’t quite a criminal yet, and although his attitude was large, his Level was low.

The crotch of the rattling, trembling guy was wet.

 Gross.

Since I had thoroughly frightened him, I would let him off around here with the intimidation.

I had to release it for the sake of conversation anyway.

”What happened to the answer, apprentice?” I demanded.

”I-I understand! I absolutely will not do it!” Randolph squealed.

”Come to think of it, there is no apology to Dietlinde-san, is there?” I reminded him.

”Dietlinde, I am sorry!” Randolph yelled.

”I am sorry? That’s not the wording of an apprentice, is it?” I chided.

”I am terribly sorry! Please forgive me! I will never do it again!” Randolph wept.

”…If there is no next time, that is fine,” Dietlinde softy replied.

 ”Thank you very much!”

Randolph, who had completely transformed into a groveling mess, crawled on the ground and did nothing but lower his head repeatedly.

It was probably just a superficial reflection anyway, but if he did it next time, I would seriously do him in without leaving even a trace of charcoal.

Notes:

• Henriette – A petite, high-spirited dog-like beastman guild clerk (~160 cm) with drooping eyes, floppy ears, and bouncing chestnut curls in a frilly blouse. She uses a sugary, polite facade to extract favor and offload work, but harbors a malicious disposition, using psychological slander and violence to usurp control over assignments. Formerly favored by her boss Randolph until cut loose, she faces criminal enslavement for forgery, fraud, assault, and defamation. She rejects Thomas’s advances and likes Daisuke.

• Thomas – A mid‑30s, 2m tall gorilla‑type beastman with thick fur, a tail, and sharp canines. Officially a B-rank adventurer with A-rank power, he wields the Wind Spear Rindvurm. Though crude and lecherous—often skipping duties to flirt with guild staff—he forms a party with his four wives. When fighting to save a woman he loves, he turns fiercely protective and chivalrous, even resorting to dogeza.

• Karl – A young, low-profile City Guard responsible for witnessing legal procedures and duels to certify the victor. Operating under the direction of Guild authorities, they also handle restraining and escorting criminals, maintaining a modest yet official presence during critical legal and disciplinary matters.

• Roswitha – The Guild Master, a stately woman in her sixties with sharp eyes and iron-gray hair in a crown bun, commands absolute authority over the Royal Capital Branch. Wearing silver-embroidered crimson robes, her strict presence silences arguments. She acts decisively against administrative corruption and enforces rigid workplace regulations to preserve guild credibility, brooking no nonsense from anyone.

• Haida – An Inquisitor resembling an ordinary, middle-aged woman who stays behind at the Guild to settle a dispute over fraud. Responsible for formal interrogations and evaluating criminal intent, she utilizes her unique ‘Insight’ ability to verify the truth and expose lies, specifically during her investigation of Randolph, defining her authoritative and investigative relationship with suspects.

• Dietlinde – A tall, broad-shouldered sheep beastwoman with curled horns, fair porcelain skin, and straight platinum hair in a severe bun. Stoic and professionally dedicated to her guild duties despite severe workplace isolation, systematic harassment by Randolph, and low self-esteem, she sheds silent tears with a straight face. Cleared of a past forgery frame-up and forgiving of Henriette’s assault, she utilizes Water Magic. She harbors deep gratitude and absolute psychological devotion toward Daisuke-san, secretly loving him for his fatigue magic after he repeatedly rescued her from physical harm and enslavement.

• Randolph – A short, burly bear-type Beastman with a thick fur ruff and blue beard, this middle-aged former Quest Mediation Department Head wears a tailored coat with gold epaulettes. Arrogant and lazy, he was demoted to apprentice for workplace harassment and administrative evasion, often using Intimidation Skills to silence subordinates. Henriette blackmails him and rumors hint they are conspiring to frame Dietlinde.

• Ren – Second‑year high‑schooler reborn as a Saint, healer and buffer for the Hero Party. Cynical and observant, he wears a plain school uniform with a faint halo, draws on MMO tactics, and rejects caretakers like Shouta. A Saint from another world, he joins the Hero Party, nursing resentment toward Otto’s forced mentorship.

• Meta Tsedes – A statuesque knight with raven hair, amber eyes, and polished armor, she serves as a dramatic commentator who analyzes and reacts to events involving Daisuke-sama. Her voice is honeyed yet venomous. Driven by an unshakable, highly flexible loyalty to the Order’s code, she frequently prompts conversations and questions the actions of others, filtering narrative events through her sharp perspective.

• Meta – A 160cm, curvy, mid-20s blonde priestess and former duchess who became Daisuke’s lover and party mediator after he saved her. Wearing high-waisted robes, she radiates a warm pink aura, absolute devotion to Daisuke, and coldness to other men. Alongside the Narrator in meta post-chapter discourse, she offers factual commentary on world-building, character behavior, and her past.

• Mercedes – Mercedes (Mel), brown‑haired noblewoman and Home Secretary of Maultasche, is a top‑ranked knight called the “Disappointing Beauty” in a white frilled gown—graceful yet clumsy, labeled an “idiot child.” Energetic, desperate, sweet‑toothed, obsessive about weight, she fears Vice‑Captain Cassandra, despises goblins, sees dungeons as divine trials, travels with Daisuke as his snack‑partner, seeks a Reincarnator lover, and is the devoted mother of Patrizia, once Cassandra’s proxy.
