Volume 11 Chapter 17 Delivery

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Morning-ssu! It is Mikawaya,” I chirped.1

”Mika…? Customer, I apologize, but may I ask for your name again?” the shop clerk asked.

”I am sorry, it is a joke. It is Daisuke. Please put me through to Elmer-san.”

Today, I came to Elmer-san’s shop, the Beunemünde merchant guild. The person who handled me was a serious-looking young lady, and she did not understand the joke. Or rather, as expected, jokes about my previous life were impossible to convey.

”Daisuke says things I don’t understand from time to time,” Liese muttered.

 ”Shut it,” I replied.

”Master, what kind of meaning did ‘Mikawaya’ have?” Camilla asked.

”Hmm, it is not something that needs a serious explanation, but perhaps it is a greeting used when making a delivery?”

Today, I was out shopping with Liese, Camilla, and Ilse. I also brought the item that Elmer-san requested earlier.

”Oh, Daisuke-san, I am glad you came. Come, please come inside,” Elmer replied.

 ”Excuse the intrusion,” I said.

Elmer welcomed us with a smiling face, and we held our business meeting in the parlor. This time, Liese and the others also tagged along. I did not mind being alone, but as long as there was no particular reason, Camilla would not leave my side, and since Ilse was an acquaintance of Elmer, I decided to have her sit in. In that case, the serious Liese would not just wander around by herself.

I sat opposite Elmer across the table, and Liese and the others stood behind me. If we were at home, everyone would be sitting, but as expected, we could not do that while others were watching. I said I did not mind, but Liese would not budge. She said if one spoils one’s slaves, one will be looked down upon. We had a conversation like this before.

”Why don’t you all sit down too?” I asked.

”Thank you for your consideration, sir,” Liese replied. “However, we are the Master’s slaves.”

 ”I don’t mind, though…”

”That will not do, Master. You would be insulted for not being able to discipline your slaves properly.”

Liese had a strong sense of loyalty, so it seemed she could not tolerate being the reason I was looked down upon. Even if I did not mind, Liese would absolutely not back down. You stubborn person…

”I see… In that case, I guess I cannot feed my slaves expensive meat… especially Orc General or Minotaur meat…”

 ”Eh!?” Liese gasped.

”If I do as Liese says, I think that is how it will be… was I wrong?”

”N-no, sir. As you say. It is luxury for slaves to eat meat… Ugh…”

Liese, who was forced into a truly bitter decision, was trembling with a face that could not hide her regret. Her tail was also drooping. Cute. But if I teased her too much, I felt sorry for her.

”Well, though, it will be fine if we are inside the house. Let’s continue eating meat together as we always have.”

 ”Y-yes!!!”

With the return of the meat she had once given up on, Liese’s tension skyrocketed! Her face brightened into a shining smile, and her tail was going wild.

By the way, Camilla was not as rigid as Liese, so she liked to hold hands or sit on my lap even outside. Although, she held back to a certain extent when Liese was around. Ilse was fickle, so it was not decided that it was like this every time. Even if Liese were not there, since Elmer was her former master, it did not seem like she could relax.

”It has started to get cold recently, hasn’t it?” I asked.

”Indeed, it has,” Elmer replied. “As one gets older, the cold becomes painful, but I really cannot say such things, can I?”

”It must be tough when traveling by carriage.”

”It is still better than walking, though. In the past, I used to walk while carrying products on a pack frame.”

It was too impatient to go straight to the main subject, so we chatted while drinking tea. It seemed Elmer had quite a hard time during his early days. It was a huge success to go from such a start to owning a store in the Royal Capital, was it not? As expected of someone with the Intuition Skill.

”The Adventurer’s Guild seemed to be in a mess a while ago, but it seems to have finally settled down recently,” I noted.

”That is true, as there was a little trouble.”

”Oh, do you have any connection to it?”

 ”Yes, well, a little…”

That was the incident involving Randolph and Henriette; I was deeply involved as one of the parties concerned. Rather, I was at the center of the commotion.

Since there was no way I could say such a thing, I kept my words vague. The three slave girls read the room and stayed silent. Liese had a calm face, Camilla had a smug face as if she wanted to say, “Master is amazing!”, and Ilse had an expression like “I remember that happening.”

”Well, in any case, the handling fees have stopped being strange lately, so I have been able to make requests with peace of mind.”

”That is the best thing to hear,” I replied.

It seemed the victims were explained that Henriette was the reason the handling fees became high. Having finished such small talk, we entered the main subject.

”…Well then, today I have come to deliver the requested item. Here it is.”

”Oh! As expected of Daisuke-san! May I take a look?”

 ”Of course, please go ahead.”

Today’s main subject was the delivery of the Rejuvenation Potion requested by Elmer. It was now a specialty of the Royal Capital’s dungeon. After all, it sold for a high price.

”Hmm, hmm, the effect is for three years, is it?” Elmer asked.

 ”Was this okay?”

”Yes, the requester specified ‘an effect of three years or more,’ so I think it is sufficient.”

She did not speak the name, but it seemed it was a request from a certain noblewoman. I delivered it to Elmer for the market price of 300 gold coins, but it would probably be around 350 to 400 gold coins including handling fees and hush money paid by the requester. Nobles really had money.

”The other party said, ‘Bring it as soon as you get it,’ so I will depart immediately.”

 ”Eh, starting now?” I asked.

”Yes, because I do not know what will happen if it becomes known that I am taking it easy. Please take your time, Daisuke-san. Please excuse me.”

”Are you serious? Please be careful…”

Hmm, it seemed the requester loved moving like a noble. If he left now, it would be night before long, but he dashed out as if to say, “That has nothing to do with me!”

 ”Nobles are scary,” I muttered.

”Is that so? Isn’t this normal?” Liese asked.

 ”Is it?”

”Yeah, it was like this when I was there, too,” Ilse said.

Ilse had worked under Elmer for a while.

”Since I have become free, shall I go and greet the person who helped me?” Ilse asked.

”Shall we do that? Then, I will go for a bit,” I said.

”If you are going, bring a souvenir. Here,” Elmer said, handing over a package.

”Oh, thank you,” I said, passing the sweets to Ilse.

”Master, may I sit next to you?” Camilla asked.

”Elmer has left, so isn’t that fine? It is fine, right, Liese?”

”…As you say, Master,” Liese replied.

”There you go. Come here, Camilla~”

”Yay! Like, thank you!” Camilla chirped.

I spent time petting and ruffling Camilla, waiting until Ilse returned.

”Good evening, I am Luida from the Beunemünde merchant guild,” the woman said as she entered.

”Good evening, I am Daisuke. Er?”

”I am sorry for the sudden intrusion, honey. I wanted to greet Ilse’s current Master. I was worried because I used to be Ilse’s Caretaker, bless her heart.”

 ”Ah, I see.”

Luida-san felt like a talkative auntie.

”Ilse, you hardly ever come by, so I was worried. You have come to the shop from time to time, right? You could at least come by to greet me, honey.”

”No, it is hard to show my face. It is awkward for a mere slave to greet her former master, right?” Ilse said.

”You don’t need to worry about things like that.”

”I do worry,” Ilse insisted. “Daisuke thinks so too, right?”

”Well, that is true,” I replied.

”How was Ilse when she was here at this merchant guild?” I asked.

”She worked seriously. It seems she was ‘reflecting.’ Although it also seems it was because she was looking forward to her ‘reward’, honey.”

 ”Ahaha…”

”Ilse left without even consulting me; don’t you think that is cruel?”

”That was my bad, so please forgive her already…” I pleaded.

”It can’t be helped, I will forgive her since she came today. And the sweets were delicious, too. Besides, it seems true that she is having fun at your place, Daisuke-san.”

”I have been saying that since a while ago, right?”

”You don’t know a person’s character unless you meet them in person, right, honey?”

”You should show your face from time to time from now on, too,” Luida added.

 ”Yes, yes,” Ilse muttered.

 ”You only say ‘yes’ once!”

 ”Please give me a break…”

 …Correction. Luida-san was definitely Ilse’s mom.

 Summary:

Daisuke delivers a requested potion to the merchant Elmer. He deals with Liese’s strict views on slavery while managing Camilla’s desire for affection. Ilse reconnects with a former caretaker, Luida, revealing more about her past. The variable remains how Daisuke will balance his relaxed personality with the rigid social expectations of the world.

 —

 Trivia:

Daisuke was at the center of the recent Adventurer’s Guild commotion.

Liese is specifically concerned about Daisuke being insulted for failing to discipline his slaves.

Elmer is acting as a broker for a noblewoman who requires the Rejuvenation Potion.

Luida previously worked as a caretaker for Ilse at the merchant guild.

 Translation Notes:

1 A historical reference to a traditional Japanese delivery shop often featured in pop culture (like Sazae-san), used here by Daisuke as a playful trope for delivery services.

Notes:

• Daisuke – Daisuke is a lean, 170cm Japanese reincarnate with tousled dark hair, amber eyes, and an infinite Item Box. A cynical, analytical B-Rank solo adventurer with powerful leveling capabilities, wind/healing magic, and a spear, he protects his slave party and growing harem. Deeply protective yet possessive, he maintains equal bonds with his lovers, including Regina, while on a date with his initial three.

• Elmer – A portly, sunny-dispositioned merchant in his 40s residing in the Royal Capital. Head of the Beunemünde guild and holder of Intuition, he travels often for trade. He is observant, friendly, and employs slaves, serving as Daisuke’s master. He shares a history with Ilse, formerly owning her and now acting as her master who grants her rewards.

• Liese – Liese, a 170cm grey-scaled dragonewt with thick horns, silver-blue braided hair, and violet eyes, is a serious Level 21 spear-fighter leading the ‘Lovers’ party. Born to red/blue dragonewts and raised by Dietlinde, she wears an arcane cloak and rune circlet. Devoted to discipline, duty, and loyalty, she is Daisuke’s first slave and bonds with Ursula while prioritizing Daisuke’s physical care.

• Camilla – A fox-type beastman slave and opportunistic hunter whose identity revolves around tracking prey and surviving by their wits. Deeply attached to Daisuke, they otherwise maintain a calculated distance from others, viewing relationships through a lens of utility and strategy. Their appearance reflects a rugged, practical life in the wild, marked by worn gear and a sharp, ever-watchful gaze.

• Ilse – Ilse is a 17-year-old cat-type tiger-kin archer with a petite, boyish frame and gold-and-black hair. A fickle, moody level-18 Beunemünde Guild member in Daisuke’s party, this former slave-bandit and merchant’s worker masks deep devotion to her found family with blunt, unfiltered humor. She acts as a witty straight-man who prefers crab over meat and struggles to track high-speed fights.

• Henriette – A petite, high-spirited dog-like beastman guild clerk (~160 cm) with drooping eyes, floppy ears, and bouncing chestnut curls in a frilly blouse. She uses a sugary, polite facade to extract favor and offload work, but harbors a malicious disposition, using psychological slander and violence to usurp control over assignments. Formerly favored by her boss Randolph until cut loose, she faces criminal enslavement for forgery, fraud, assault, and defamation. She rejects Thomas’s advances and likes Daisuke.

• Randolph – A short, burly bear Beastman with a thick fur ruff, blue beard, and tailored coat with gold epaulettes, this middle-aged elite academy graduate is a former department head demoted to an apprentice after a harassment and evasion scandal. Arrogant, lazy, and bitter, he lacks core clerical skills, uses intimidation on subordinates, is blackmailed by Henriette, and rumors tie them to framing Dietlinde.

• Luida – A middle-aged woman who previously served as a caretaker for Ilse at the merchant guild.
