Volume 2 Chapter 13 Date

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

As a result of some hard bargaining, I’d managed to score a date with the three of them as a reward for the rescue. My schedule was a bit of a mess, though; I spent my rest day afternoons at the library, I had monthly lunches with Mercedes and Yuko, and I owed Ilse her own rewards once a month. My only real openings were dinner on Orange Day (the eve of a rest day) and the stretch from lunch to dinner on Yellow Day (the rest day itself). If I wanted to wrap this up within six months, I’d have to slot them in more frequently. It would eat up most of my free time, but that was a small price to pay for a date with three knockouts.

After some discussion, we decided the first date would be a group outing from the morning of Yellow Day through lunch. Juliet insisted on the trio because she “wasn’t sure if I’d do something truly depraved” if we were alone. I suppose I’d teased her a little too much, and she’d developed some unnecessary (anxiety) about my intentions. Honestly, my bad. In a world with such a skewed gender ratio, a one-to-three ratio wasn’t that rare. While one-on-one couples were common, a man accompanied by several women was a standard sight. The reverse was rare, though not entirely unheard of.

At 10:00 AM the following Yellow Day, I waited at the usual fountain square. I typically dressed rough, but since today was a date, I’d put on my “battle outfit”: chino-style trousers, a crisp shirt, and a heavy leather jacket. I’d even swapped my adventure boots for some stylish leather shoes I’d bought at a high-end boutique for commoners. I was out with three beauties, so I had to bring my A-game.

”Sorry, did we keep you waiting?” Ines asked.

 ”……”

I’d been watching the fountain’s gentle splash when the voice snapped me back. I turned around and saw three goddesses standing there. I was so stunned I couldn’t even find my voice. Ines-san was not in her usual metal armor, but a pastel-green flared skirt, a black knit sweater, and a jacket. With black short boots, she gave off the overall impression of a lovely, mature woman. The green-focused outfit looked incredible against her hair.

Juliet had also ditched her thick leather light armor. She wore a fluffy sweater and hot pants over leggings. It was a perfect match for her blue bob, giving her a sporty, active look. (Isn’t she cold with her legs out like that?) I couldn’t help but feel a bit (concerned). It was a very “gal” style, even if her personality didn’t quite match.

Sylvie-san was not in her usual robes, but her clean, elegant image remained the same. She wore a frilly, pale green one-piece dress. The intricate embroidery looked like Elven craftsmanship. Combined with her wavy blonde hair, she looked as lovely as a fairy.

”Hey, at least give us a reaction,” Juliet said.

”I am… currently in a state of profound emotional shock!” I replied.

”Daisuke-san, if you’re feeling unwell, should we reschedule?” Sylvie-san asked.

”No way, absolutely not! I mean, I knew you were all beautiful, but seeing you all coordinated like this… I’m speechless,” I said.

”I’m glad you’re pleased, but surely women like us are common enough?” Ines-san asked.

”Ufufu, even if it’s just flattery, I’m happy,” Sylvie-san said.

”What are you talking about?” Juliet muttered.

”No, you three don’t get it,” I insisted. “First, Ines-san, you went from your usual gallant look to something mature yet cute. That ‘gap’ is incredible! The transformation is just wonderful.”

”O-Oh. Being praised so bluntly is a bit embarrassing…” Ines-san replied, fidgeting. (She’s wonderfully cute when she’s shy. She looks the most mature, but she’s the most innocent inside. The ‘gap moe’ is going to be the death of me.)

”And Juliet, the active look with the hot pants balanced by the fluffy sweater? It’s magnificent. You’ve hit a high-level balance there,” I said.

”Well… thanks, I guess,” Juliet replied. She looked a bit conflicted, but since I was being sincere, she couldn’t exactly get angry. Her awkwardness was also pretty cute.

”And Sylvie-san, that dress perfectly suits your pure image. You look like a fairy out of a storybook,” I added.

”Fufu, thank you very much,” Sylvie-san said. She seemed used to the attention and didn’t get shy, but her bright smile was picture-perfect.

”Any man who isn’t moved by this isn’t a man at all! I’m so glad I made these dates my reward!” I felt a lump in my throat from the sheer emotion. This was an absolute victory.

”Alright, enough with the praise. Do you plan on standing here all day? Let’s move,” Juliet said.

”Roger that,” I replied. I felt like I might have creeped them out a little, but I couldn’t stop grinning.

I felt like I might have creeped them out a little, but I couldn’t stop grinning.

Dates in this world revolved around shopping and eating, as tourism wasn’t really a thing. There were scenic spots like lakes, but nothing close enough for a morning trip. To locals, the grasslands and wheat fields were just mundane scenery. Most tall buildings were military assets, and the Royal Castle was off-limits. Therefore, shopping and dining are the staples of city dates in this world. I considered a museum or library, but passed.

”Ines-san, how do you three usually spend your holidays?” I asked.

”Daisuke, about that ‘Ines-san’ thing,” Ines said.

 ”Yeah?”

”This is a reward. Just call me ‘Ines.’ And drop the formal speech,” she added.

”You should call me ‘Sylvie’ too. No need for the ‘san’ or the polite talk,” Sylvie said.

 ”Wait, really?” I asked.

”You already talk that way with Juliet, so it must be easier for you, right? It’s our date too, so it wouldn’t be fair if only Juliet got special treatment,” Ines said with a rare, mischievous smile.

 ”I agree,” Sylvie added.

”Well… I understa—I mean, I got it, Ines, Sylvie. I’ll do that during the date,” I said.

”Actually, you can just do it all the time,” Ines replied.

 ”Oh, really?”

 ”Yes,” Sylvie said.

 ”Works for me,” Juliet muttered.

”Alright, then. I’ll do that. Sylvie, shouldn’t you stop using polite speech with me too?” I asked.

”This is just my normal way of talking,” Sylvie replied.

”She’s like that with us, too,” Ines explained.

”Fair enough,” I said. (Being on a first-name basis… does that mean we’ve actually gotten closer?)

We wandered through the nearby market, looking at accessory stalls, preserved foods for adventurers, and shops selling small items like knives. Since I’d booked a proper restaurant for lunch, we didn’t snack along the way. Just having these three by my side, smiling at me, made me feel like I was ascending to heaven. Unlike our occasional drinks at the tavern, today they were here just for me.

For lunch, I’d reserved a spot at a high-end restaurant. It didn’t have a strict dress code, but the atmosphere was calm and refined. We had a multi-course meal, and while I’m sure it was delicious, my mind was so focused on the three women in front of me that I barely noticed the taste. Even without alcohol, the conversation was lively and warm.

”I never had a date this fun, even in my previous life,” I admitted.

”Daisuke, you say that sometimes, but how old were you?” Ines asked.

”I was about forty,” I replied.

”You were a total old man,” Juliet teased.

”Hey, don’t call me an old man,” I said. (I couldn’t really argue; it was a fact.)

”If you were forty, weren’t you married?” Sylvie asked.

 ”No… I wasn’t,” I replied.

”Did you not go on dates?” Juliet asked.

”I went on a few, but I could count them on one hand,” I said.

My romantic history back in Japan was a wasteland. During my student years, I was too shy and passive to ever make a move. As a working adult, I tried to get out there, but I was too desperate at mixers and always struck out. When I tried matchmaking parties, all the attention went to doctors or corporate high-flyers. I was a total ghost in the dating scene. After a transfer to a rural area, I tried dating sites, but I rarely got a reply. Even when I did get a date, they were usually eccentrics or the conversation just died.

”With your personality, Daisuke, you’d think it would be easy. Is your world that strict on men?” Ines asked.

”It’s definitely tougher than here, but it wasn’t impossible for everyone. My failure was down to a mix of my looks, my personality, and my income,” I explained.

”I don’t think your looks are bad, Daisuke,” Sylvie said.

”Honestly, I’ve barely looked in a mirror since I got here, but I feel like I’ve leveled up a bit in that department,” I admitted.

”I don’t know about your money, but your personality is fine,” Ines added.

”You don’t think you had ‘Ordeal’ skills back in that world too, do you?” Juliet asked.

 ”No… I don’t think so. Probably not,” I replied.

 ”Which is it?” Juliet pressed.

 (I really hope I didn’t.)

”Well, even if the past was rough, it doesn’t matter now,” Ines said.

”That’s right. The ‘Ordeal’¹ skills make things tricky here, but you’ll be fine, Daisuke-san.” Sylvie added.

”I hope so,” I said. (It’s a steep climb, but it’s not impossible. I’ll just enjoy the moment.)

”Sylvie, you’re an Elf, right? I don’t see them often, are they rare?”

”Yes, we are few, but there are rules for leaving the village.”

We talked about Sylvie’s background as an Elf. Apparently, Elves rarely leave their villages because their laws require them to be strong enough to defend themselves from creeps who target their race. Specifically, they need to be Level 40 with an average Ability Score of 1300. Sylvie had only just been allowed to leave.

”Ines, Juliet, why did you two agree to help train our party?” I asked.

”Daisuke, aren’t you going to ask me?” Sylvie teased.

”I can tell just by looking at you, Sylvie. It was pure curiosity, right?” I asked.

”Eh?! Am I that easy to read?” she asked.

”Your eyes were sparkling the whole time,” I laughed.

”Anyone could see it,” Juliet added.

”Pure curiosity is one of your best traits, Sylvie,” Ines said kindly.

Sylvie seemed shocked, but it was obvious. Ines and Juliet clearly felt a deep trust and affection for her. In the end, it’s all about personality.

”Anyway, half of the reason we agreed was curiosity,” Ines admitted. “We wanted to see what people summoned from another world were like.”

”And the other half?” I asked.

”We were helped by senior adventurers when we started out, so we wanted to pay it forward,” Ines explained.

”We had a rough time as rookies,” Juliet added. “Plus, the client was the Knight Order, and we knew we could trust them.”

Both of them looked nostalgic, yet a bit bitter, probably remembering the bad seniors they’d encountered. I knew that feeling; back in Japan, a toxic boss could make your life a living hell. Especially in the ‘Black Company’ era. Things seem better now, and I’m envious.

”Well, I’m glad it was you three. You’re great teachers, and you’re all beautiful,” I said.

”You really emphasize that last part,” Juliet muttered.

”Of course I do! Back in my world, any man would be thrilled to be trained by beauties like you,” I replied.

”But surely we’re just average?” Ines asked.

”I’m probably below average for an Elf since I’m short,” Sylvie added.

”Not a chance. You three are top-tier. Not just your looks, but your personalities too. I’m genuinely attracted to you,” I said.

”I… I see. No one’s ever said that to me before,” Ines said, her face turning red.

”I don’t get your taste, but thanks,” Juliet added.

”Thank you very much, Daisuke,” Sylvie said with her usual smile.

Ines was red-faced, Juliet was skeptical but polite, and Sylvie was smiling.

”You have things to do this afternoon, right? Is the time okay?” Juliet asked.

”Yeah. I’d love to stay, but I don’t want to overstay my welcome. A deal’s a deal,” I replied.

”It’s your reward, so don’t worry about it. But if you have things to do, let’s call it a day,” Sylvie said.

 ”Yeah,” I agreed.

I’d already settled the bill when I made the reservation, so we just headed out. I’d heard that not fumbling with the bill was the sign of a “capable man,” so I’d put it into practice.

”Are you sure about paying for us? We should have been the ones paying,” Ines said.

”Don’t worry about it. Today was the best day I’ve had since I got here. Thank you all,” I said.

”You’re exaggerating, but… fufu, it doesn’t feel bad,” Ines said.

”Thanks for the food,” Juliet said.

 ”Thank you, Daisuke,” Sylvie added.

We parted with smiles, and our first date came to an end. The ‘Ordeal’ wasn’t going to be easy, but as long as I could have days like this, I was okay with that.

 Summary:

Daisuke goes on his first group date with his mentors Ines, Juliet, and Sylvie. They spend the morning shopping at a local market and share a high-end lunch. The conversation deepens their bond as they discuss their pasts and future training.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The gender ratio in this world is heavily skewed toward women.

 - Elves have a Level 40 requirement to leave their village for self-defense.

 - Daisuke was approximately 40 years old in his previous life in Japan.

 - Orange Day is the day before a rest day; Yellow Day is the rest day.

 - The ‘Ordeal’ skill makes it difficult for Daisuke to have normal social/romantic interactions

 —

 Character Insight:

Ines and Sylvie allow Daisuke to drop honorifics, signaling a significant shift from ‘mentors’ to ‘friends/romantic interests’. Daisuke’s insecurity about his past failures in Japan still haunts his view of his current attractiveness.

 Behind the Scenes:

The author utilizes the ‘gap moe’ trope heavily with Ines, contrasting her gallant knight exterior with a pure, shy interior.

 TL Notes:

1 試練 (Shiren): A mechanic or skill in this world that imposes difficulties or trials on the user, often affecting social success or growth.

Notes:

• Mercedes – Brown semi-long hair, a white frilled one-piece replacing thick chest armor, she is the shrewd, overworked Home Secretary (Naimukyou) of the Maultasche Kingdom, mother of Patrizia, and a high-ranking noblewoman overseeing domestic affairs, security, and the Investigation Bureau—yet remains a high-spirited Royal Knight who meditates, teaches shield techniques, leads parties, despises goblins and orcs, views dungeons as divine trials, wields elite combat and destruction magic, and deeply understands guild mechanics; she proudly calls herself an “Elegant and Fair Knight” and was once mentioned as a previous date interest.

• Ilse – 16‑year‑old demi‑human female bandit, level 5 Archer with Archery Lv3; large‑breasted yet youthful, stubborn and child‑like. Slave of Elmer, she earns sexual “rewards” from Daisuke and faints at climax. She meets the protagonist monthly, has a sharp tongue but works hard, now in a sexual relationship with him. In the brothel she is called a ‘lightweight’ or ‘small fry’ for basic practice.

• Yuko – Reincarnated 17‑year‑old high‑schooler, once a 40‑year‑old Earth civil servant who married, had a child and died in a train crash. Now a Level‑1 apprentice to Lady Xaveria, she wears a half‑up hairstyle, thin chest armor, stands 160 cm with a standard build, speaks politely but shows low motivation and poor etiquette.

• Juliet – Beast‑kin adventurer, 150 cm tall, blue bob hair, cat ears and tail, large chest, light armor, dual‑wielder with Idaten skill wielding a two‑handed sword. Member of Gale and Raging Wind parties, excellent sense of smell for scouting; gear often shatters after an Orc fight. Prickly tsundere who avoids lewd talk, sensitive palate (nekojita), short‑tempered Twin Winds instructor who insults the protagonist and snaps at Daisuke’s teasing about her age and rank.

• Ines – 170 cm tall, long green hair, voluptuous build; wears heavy armor but prefers feminine, college‑girl style. D‑Rank, Level 21+ magic swordsman who fuses wind magic with swift swordplay, accelerates with gusts. Cool‑headed yet shy, pouting when teased; dignified leader of Twin Winds and Leemans mentor, safety‑first and light‑drinker. Member of Raging Wind and Gale (烈風), feels a professional debt to Daisuke, and though a skilled knight, remains innocent and naive.

• Aya – Standing 165 cm tall, she is a slender alchemist with long hair and a flat chest, wearing no chest armor. Serious and straight‑laced, she serves diligently in both the Working Women Party and the Leemans Party, having been a pharmacist in a past life. In the protagonist’s delusions she appears as his lover.

• Mai – Standing 175 cm tall with a toned, athletic build, she wears thick chest armor and a single ponytail, giving a slightly masculine look. As a War Saint Vanguard of the Working Women Party and member of the Leemans, she’s a former gym instructor who loves physical activity, adventure, and speaks briskly and clearly.

• Rin – Ice Mage of the JK Party, she’s a tall, large‑breasted high‑school girl with long shaggy hair and thick chest armor. Physically imposing yet fragile (low VIT), she speaks rarely; her quiet, salty mask cracks only in intimate moments, and her overwhelming presence dominates those around her, especially in Daisuke’s opening delusion.

• Sylvie – Elf, 140 cm tall, petite and loli-like with long wavy blonde hair, wearing frilly robes, she is a spirit-magic specialist and member of the Gale Party, serving as Daisuke’s instructor and the group’s highest-leveled adventurer. Though youthful in appearance, she radiates a terrifying aura when her age is questioned, exuding refined maturity. She excels in spirit magic for scouting and trap detection, relying on MP potions in combat, but struggles physically due to her slender build. The most tolerant of the trio regarding adult topics, she balances innocence with seasoned wisdom, despite lower MP endurance than her level suggests.
