Volume 2 Chapter 29 The Iron Golem and the Sixteenth Floor
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
By the end of June, the entire party had finally reached level 44, and preparations to challenge the Floor Boss¹ were complete. To my companions, this was our final “big job” after a year of sharing joys and sorrows. But for me, as someone who intended to keep being an adventurer, this was just a milestone. In short, it was business as usual-I wasn’t feeling the pressure at all. My teammates, however, were a different story.
”Man, we’re finally here-ssu!” Kazuya chirped.
”Even I am deeply moved by this occasion-degozaru,” Takuya added in his usual ninja affectation.
”I-I-I am fully prepared-zo!” Makoto stammered.
”Makoto-san, please, try to stay calm,” Kenta-kun urged.
Kazuya was leaving but staying an adventurer; Takuya was just continuing his never-ending ninja roleplay; and Kenta-kun was simply moving to another party. None of them were sweating it. Only Makoto, for whom this was effectively a retirement match, was wound as tight as a drum. (Seriously, man, get it together.)
”Makoto, relax,” I said. “It’s no different from any other hunt we’ve done.”
”I-I know that-zo!”
I figured he’d be fine, but the Golem was a powerhouse, and a stray hit could be fatal if he lost his focus. Maybe I was being a bit overprotective, but I decided to settle his nerves.
”How about a ‘Refresh’ spell?”
”Oh, that would be most appreciated-zo!”
The MP cost was high enough that you wouldn’t normally burn it right before a boss fight. However, thanks to my level-ups and the “MP Recovery Speed Increase” effect, I’d be topped off in a few minutes anyway.
”Alright, shall we?”
”Yes, let’s go.”
”Hmph! Now that I have regained my composure, the Iron Golem is mere fodder before me-zo!” Makoto declared.
”I shall propose to her when this is over-degozaru,” Takuya added.
”As long as I’m standing, my Summoning Skill is invincible-ssu!” Kazuya boasted.
”Cut it out! Don’t go jinxing us with weird flags!” I snapped.
We pushed open the boss room doors to find the Iron Golem waiting. It was a size larger than the standard models, its body shimmering with a dull black luster. The arena’s scale matched the tenth-floor boss room. While the surrounding Elements had randomized attributes, we’d hit the jackpot-this time, they were Fire.
”We lucked out on the attributes,” I noted. “Kenta-kun, handle the Elements as planned. Takuya, support him. The rest of us will draw the Golem’s aggro!”
”Roger!”
Kenta-kun had a high affinity for Water Magic, but his other attributes were mediocre at best. Had the Elements been anything else, I would have had to handle them myself, which would have weakened the healing and support I could provide Makoto while he tanked. Because they were Fire, Kenta-kun could sweep them easily. A lucky break, indeed.
The Golem had no mouth to roar, and the Elements were equally silent; the only sound in the room was the heavy thud-thud of iron feet on stone. Though it moved faster than a standard model, its attacks were still telegraphed, sweeping swings. Makoto ducked into its guard to strike, keeping its attention locked on him. After a year of this, he could handle these patterns in his sleep. Kazuya and I chipped in with attacks and support, but we held back just enough to avoid stealing the aggro.
”All done!”
”Rejoining the fray-degozaru!”
”Good! Time for the real fight!”
Thanks to the elemental advantage, Kenta-kun finished his task in record time. Now the real battle began.
The Iron Golem’s defense was absurd; without debuffing its VIT with weakening magic, our attacks would just bounce off.
I began weaving together buffs for my allies and debuffs for the boss.
Most magic besides Earth worked to some degree, so Kenta-kun kept his blade coated in Water Magic.
Kazuya summoned his latest familiar-a girl? in red dress armor-who laid into the boss with a massive greatsword.
Makoto stood his ground, meeting every iron fist with his shield.
The metallic clangs were deafening, but he didn’t budge.
Meanwhile, Takuya worked the shadows, targeting the neck joint.
I focused on the big picture, keeping our buffs active, the Golem debuffed, and the heals flowing.
Despite being a “powerful enemy,” we were over-leveled and over-prepared. The battle ended without a single close call. The Iron Golem finally crumpled into a heap of scrap metal.
”Phew. We actually did it,” Kenta-kun sighed.
”Did… did we get him?!-degozaru” Takuya joked.
”He wasn’t as tough as the rumors made him out to be-zo!” Makoto laughed.
”Victory-ssu! Part 1 is complete-ssu!” Kazuya shouted.
”Shut up, you idiots,” I grumbled.
I stowed the Iron Golem’s remains in my Item Box and we stepped onto the sixteenth floor. We weren’t here to explore seriously, just to prove we’d arrived for our promotion. Minotaurs and Tigers roamed here. The Minotaurs were 2.5-meter ox-headed beasts with high STR, swinging lethal axes and letting out Fear-inducing roars.
The Tigers were agile Wind Magic users who also used roars. I had Fear Resistance, so I could keep the party shielded. These monsters were heavy hitters but simple-minded; they fell easily to status ailments or environmental manipulation like turning the ground to mud.
We hunted a few to serve as proof and then headed back to town for a celebration. It felt sentimental, knowing this was likely our last hunt as a quintet, but it wasn’t a permanent goodbye.
”A toast to reaching the sixteenth floor!”
”Cheers!”
Tomorrow was the interview for B-Rank. I’d finally get to meet the Guild Master. As we drank, the guys teased Kenta-kun about his girlfriend and turned the heat on me. I tried to explain that my ‘dates’ were just business-gathering info on the Kingdom or the Hero Party-but they weren’t buying it. When I offered to let them handle Yuko, they all backed off instantly. They knew an ordeal when they saw one.
”Today marks the end of our time as a five-man cell-ssu.”
”The party stays active until the interview and the rank-up are official-degozaru.”
”Haha, it’s like that saying: ‘A field trip isn’t over until you’re back at the front door.’”
”I’m just glad we all made it through in one piece.”
It was true. We’d started out struggling against Horn Rabbits. My own class, ‘Private Power Generation,’ had seemed like a joke until I realized its true potential. We’d all come a long way. Kenta-kun was joining Alberto’s party, Takuya was chasing his ‘Yandere’ partner, and Kazuya was a few days away from his dream summon.
We wrapped up the party early. I needed to be fresh for the interview. (I wonder if the Guild Master is a stickler for etiquette… probably not, if Thomas made the cut.)

TL Notes:
Notes:
• Kazuya – Scrawny, low‑key summoner of the Leemans, he’s a geek who favors 2‑D waifus over real women, speaks in a lazy slacker tone, and carries a 2‑D little brother. Freckles vanished after leveling; he grades his 20+ Summoning Magic in solitude, treats summons as emotional anchors, and is obsessed with pulling a specific character from his past life, planning to depart on a journey soon.
• Takuya – Black-garbed masked ninja, exiled by the Hero’s party, now a Leemans member in Daisuke’s crew and mid-guard of the Salarymen; maintains a constant faux-samurai roleplay persona, speaking in archaic speech while obsessing over yanderes. Ninja-class, all-male party, stoic and pragmatic in combat, trains at level 20+, joins the ‘Three Idiots’ for vital-point strikes. Reincarnated, he once sought B-Rank to retire and serve a chosen individual—now quietly devoted to his crew, blending stealth, geeky obsession, and unwavering loyalty beneath his mask.
• Makoto – Leeman, a former Earth-summoned blacksmith now slimmer with clear skin, is a self-admitted lolicon and Leemans party tank who wields a massive shield instead of a hammer, marking this boss fight as his retirement match. Though once stout, his high STR/VIT still make him a goblin-tanking vanguard in heavy armor; he speaks stiff samurai-style “sogashi,” apprentices under mentor Ralph, and is called Makoto-san by Milliam—an open lolicon who declares “cuteness is justice.” He admires an elegant elven girl and retains low resistance to real-life adult women, balancing his geeky loli obsession with quiet reverence for grace and strength.
• Kenta – Black‑haired, handsome reincarnated mage‑swordsman with an ice‑coated blade, a gentleman of Leemans and the socially‑adjusted member of the “Three Idiots.” He serves Salarymans and Leemans, fights beside Daisuke (Lv20+), appears drained after a red‑light clash, hesitates to kill, watches the hero’s hidden strength, bonds with adventurers, and dates Karina. Now a talented magic swordsman with high Water Magic aptitude, moving to a party led by Alberto, a younger Leemans member often confused by the older geeks’ banter.
• Yuko – 17‑year‑old high‑schooler, reincarnated from a 40‑year‑old Earth civil servant and former tech‑track professional, wears a half‑up hairstyle, thin chest armor, stands 160 cm with a standard build. Polite but low‑motivation, poor etiquette. Apprentice to Lady Xaveria, acquaintance of Daisuke, battling entitlement and stress.
• Alberto – Blue‑haired beastman, leader of adventurer party ‘Alphabet’ and former pugilist mentor to the Hero party, instructs the Working Women Party and is a married regular at the local brothel, often treating rookies to meals and entertainment. Friendly and a bit loud.
• Thomas – A B-Rank adventurer and gorilla-type beastman in his mid-thirties. Approximately 2 meters tall with thick fur, a tail, and prominent canines. Leader of a harem party of four wives.
