Volume 2 Chapter 33 The Person Kazuya Wanted to Summon
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Phantom Summoning is a skill that allows the user to manifest an object or person exactly as they imagine them. As the “Phantom” name implies, it is even possible to call forth targets that do not exist in reality. The primary difference between this and ordinary summoning is whether the subject actually exists in this world; standard summoning can only pull from reality. For both skills, the strength and status of the summoned target are entirely dependent on the user’s skill level.
In ordinary summoning, simply being “real” isn’t enough to bring something to your side. For a full-scale summons, one apparently needs a formal contract. It functions much like spirit magic; while you can initiate a summon without a preliminary contract, the entity will simply return home if an agreement isn’t reached. Sometimes, they even attach strings to the deal-demanding you defeat them in battle first or provide regular offerings.
Phantom Summoning, however, is a skill that manifests whatever the caster envisions. In essence, it is the act of materialization itself, so the moment the target appears, an effect equivalent to a contract is already in place.
For the people of this world, however, imagining something that doesn’t exist is a massive hurdle. Books are expensive and literacy rates are abysmal, so creative fiction isn’t exactly a common pastime. Most people’s imaginations are limited to folklore passed down from parents or the community, or perhaps the stories sung by traveling bards.
A noble might have the added context of a stage play, but for everyone else, the daily struggle for survival makes it nearly impossible to engage with free creative works. Because these legends and stories are almost always based on true events, they only ever speak of things that actually exist-or at least once did.
Consequently, for the locals, the gap between Phantom Summoning and ordinary magic isn’t actually that wide. To them, it’s just a way to call upon legendary heroes or the dead. Of course, summoning the former would require a staggering skill level.
But for us Transferees, who were saturated with all kinds of media in our previous lives, we have a massive wealth of knowledge regarding the fictional and the fantastic.
If we wanted to, we could even cook up entirely new stories ourselves. And as it turns out, the person Kazuya wanted to summon was someone he could never reach in his old life, no matter how hard he tried-a girl who existed only in the “second dimension.”

A few days after our party disbanded, the former members of the Leemans unit were called out by Kazuya. We gathered on the plains outside the royal capital, mostly because summoning something bizarre in the middle of the city would have turned too many heads.
Kazuya had done an incredible job getting this far in just a year, but I was still half-expecting a disaster and half-hoping for something cool. I had no idea what he was actually trying to pull.
”Alright, the preparations to summon my long-awaited ‘her’ are finally complete-yo!”
”Oh? Did you actually have to prepare something?” said the narrator.
From the looks of it, he didn’t have any catalysts or materials ready. I hadn’t heard anything about this skill requiring a medium, anyway.
”I purified my body with water and offered up prayers at the temple-yo!”
(Is that even a requirement for the skill?) I wondered. Well, as long as Kazuya was satisfied with it, I wasn’t going to complain.
”I’m starting-yo!” Kazuya announced.
He closed his eyes, sharpening his focus to prepare for the manifestation. Since it was his first time, it seemed like it was going to take a moment.
”I struggled so damn hard just to ‘summon’ her back ‘over there,’ too… Come to me-yo!”
(Summoning in the old world? Did I miss some secret underground magic scene back in Japan?)
Suddenly, a brilliant summoning circle flared to life in front of Kazuya, and a sharp howl of wind erupted from the center. A “she” appeared to be coalescing within the swirling vortex. Then, a blade sliced through the wind, and a blonde woman stepped into view. She was clad in a blue dress with silver armor plating… wait, that person is-!

”……I ask of you. Are you my Ma-“
”STOP RIGHT THERE!” I shouted.
(We can’t do that! Seriously, stop! We’re going to get sued!)

Apparently, back in our old world, Kazuya had fallen down a gaming rabbit hole after watching an anime she was in. He used to drop about 100,000 yen every month on the game by skimping on his food budget. He had finally managed to max out her level and stats, but he died just as he was about to really enjoy the payoff.
When he realized that becoming a Phantom Summoner in this world meant he could actually bring her to life, he was absolutely ecstatic. With even more fervor than a “whale” chasing a pity-rate, he poured everything he had into it and managed to summon her in just one year. The passion was impressive, I guess, but… man.
Looking back, all of his previous summons were also characters from that same game. I’d never played it myself, but I knew I’d seen them somewhere before.
Kazuya had even dropped some hints about it when we were choosing our party name. I’d completely forgotten.
By the way, we had to “redo” her introduction at Kazuya’s insistent request. Naturally, Takuya and Makoto-who both knew exactly who she was-were thrilled, and their hype levels matched Kazuya’s beat for beat.
Even the usually cool-headed Takuya was totally amped up, so you can imagine the sheer impact of her arrival. Kenta-kun, on the other hand, was just like, “Uh, I think I’ve seen her before?” and was left completely in the dust.
Also, Kazuya apparently tweaked her “settings” during the summon; her personality is mostly the same, but he visualized her without her obsession with the Holy Grail. He figured if he didn’t, she’d immediately start hunting for one and talking about “defeating enemy Masters and Servants” and all that.
Since she doesn’t have black hair and eyes like us, she doesn’t actually look that out of place here. In fact, she fits in better with the locals than we Transferees do. She carries the armor well, too.
We don’t have enough MP to keep her manifested all the time yet, but Kazuya’s just happy he can finally see her. He says his next goal is grinding levels to increase his MP pool.

Summary:
Kazuya utilizes his unique Phantom Summoning skill to bring a famous fictional character from his previous life into the fantasy world. The narrator and other transferees recognize the character, leading to a comedic moment where they must stop her from speaking her iconic introductory line to avoid a meta-disaster. Kazuya’s devotion as a former ‘whale’ gamer is revealed as the driving force behind his rapid skill progression.

Character Insight:
Kazuya demonstrates a single-minded obsession that borders on the divine; his ‘passion’ allowed him to master a complex skill in just one year solely to see his 2D waifu. The narrator acts as the ‘straight man,’ showing a deep familiarity with otaku culture while remaining pragmatic about the potential legal/meta consequences of Kazuya’s actions.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The character summoned is Artoria Pendragon (Saber) from the Type-Moon ‘Fate’ franchise. The narrator’s fear of ‘getting sued’ is a fourth-wall-breaking joke regarding the strictness of Japanese copyright in media.

TL Notes:
Notes:
• Kazuya – Scrawny, low‑key Leeman summoner and lazy‑talking geek with vanished freckles, clutching a 2‑D little brother. He grades his 20+ summoning magic alone, treats summons as emotional anchors, and obsessively pulls a specific past‑life character. A Transferee and Phantom Summoner, former gacha whale who spent a year in the new world solely to summon his favorite fictional character, planning to depart soon.
• Aya – A 165 cm tall, slender alchemist with long hair and a flat chest, wearing no armor. Serious and straight‑laced, she serves the Working Women Party and the Leemans Party, formerly a pharmacist, now an apprentice alchemist. Clean‑prudent, she appears as the protagonist’s lover in his delusions.
• Rin – Ice Mage of the JK Party: a tall, large‑breasted high‑school girl with long shaggy hair and thick chest armor. She wears a cool‑beauty façade but secretly loves makeup. Quiet and salty, her fragile VIT makes her physically imposing yet fragile; only intimate moments crack her mask, and her overwhelming presence dominates those around her, especially Daisuke’s delusion.
• Makoto – Leeman, a former Earth‑summoned blacksmith turned slimmer, clear‑skinned goblin‑tank, wields a massive shield and heavy armor. He speaks stiff samurai‑style “sogashi,” apprentices under Ralph, and is called Makoto‑san by Milliam, an open lolicon who declares “cuteness is justice.” He admires an elegant elven girl, balances his loli obsession with reverence for grace, and as a transferee with growth rate works to impress Miryam.
• Takuya – Black-garbed masked ninja, exiled from the Hero’s party, now a Leemans member and mid-guard in Daisuke’s Salarymen crew; maintains a faux-samurai persona with archaic speech and obsessive yandere fandom, yet remains stoic and pragmatic in combat. Reincarnated, he once sought B-Rank to retire and serve a chosen one—now quietly devoted to his crew, blending stealth, geeky anime/game enthusiasm, and unwavering loyalty beneath his mask. Trains at level 20+, joins the ‘Three Idiots’ for vital-point strikes; cool-headed by default but erupts into energetic excitement upon encountering familiar anime or game content.
• Kenta – Black‑haired, handsome reincarnated mage‑swordsman with an ice‑coated blade, a gentleman of Leemans and “Three Idiots” member. He serves Salarymans and Leemans, fights beside Daisuke (Lv20+), appears drained after a red‑light clash, hesitates to kill, watches the hero’s hidden strength, bonds with adventurers, dates Karina, now wields high Water Magic aptitude and joins Alberto’s party. A transferee who barely knows the summoned character feels left out of the group’s excitement.
