Volume 6 Chapter 12 The Vow
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Today was finally my one-on-one date with Juliet. Well, “date” was a bit of a stretch until the evening, since we had to do our usual dungeon crawl first. We couldn’t exactly make a living if we aren’t bringing in the coin.
After finishing our daily run, I washed off the grime at home and headed to our meeting spot: the usual fountain square.
On their solo dates, Ines was a bundle of nerves, while Sylvie was her usual, cheerful self. If I had to guess, Juliet would be there with a sour look on her face, refusing to meet my eyes, even though her tail and cat ears would be twitching with pure excitement. Just the usual for her.
”…Kept you waiting,” Juliet said.
”Not at all.”
Juliet appeared before I’d even settled in. She’d gone for a more mature look today, wearing a long one-piece dress she’d normally never touch. She had a petite frame, but her assets practically thudded right out at you. It was a total eyeful. I loved her usual gear, but this was cute in a league of its own.
As expected, Juliet wouldn’t look at me, but her ears and tail were betraying her good mood. It made me feel like I’d hit the jackpot knowing she’d been looking forward to this. I couldn’t help but smirk.
”…What?” she asked.
”Oh, nothing.”
Juliet fixed me with a skeptical glare. I guessed my grinning ticked her off a bit.
”Is my outfit really that weird?”
”Sorry, don’t be mad. I’m just smiling because you look so cute, Juliet.”
I pulled her close for a light hug. She hesitated for a split second because she was “angry,” but then she clung to me as tightly as she always does.
”…Fine. Since it’s our solo date today, I’ll let it slide,” she said.
”Thanks. Shall we?”
I managed to smooth things over. Even though we’d gotten close, I still needed to treat Juliet with the proper care and respect. Well, same goes for Ines and Sylvie.
We walked side-by-side through the twilight gardens. It had been a month since my date here with Ines, and the days were getting shorter. Even for a Royal Capital, the density didn’t hold a candle to the Kanto region back in my previous life.
”It’s still a bit warm during the day, but it really cools down this time of evening,” I said.
”You think? I’m fine. We Beastmen have way better environmental adaptation than you Humans.”
”I see.”
Now that she mentioned it, Gerta said she was getting through the desert on the seventeenth floor through sheer willpower. I guessed it wasn’t just Gerta being a masochist.
”I’m terrible with the cold, so I’m jealous,” I said.
”…Maybe this will help warm you up a bit.”
Juliet slid closer and tucked her arm into mine. It was definitely warmer, but I was too distracted by the sensation of her soft curves to care about the temperature. And Juliet, turning bright red, was just too precious. When we were linked like this, my elbow sat right against her chest.
”I heard you’re a real fan of chests,” Juliet said.
”Pfft—!!”
I never told her that! Is she psychic?! Having my exact thoughts called out like that sent me into a total tailspin.
”I-I have no idea what you’re talking about! Where did that come from?! This humble one is no mere… mammary enthusiast-degozaru, I assure you!”
”…You really thought you could play it off while panicking that hard?”
”Ugh. My bad,” I replied.
”Whatever. I’m not mad. I just heard it from those two.”
Thank god, she wasn’t pissed. But why would Ines and Sylvie tell her that? They knew Juliet was the most innocent one of the group when it comes to s*x. Actually, maybe they said it because they knew. A bit of covering fire so she could be prepared.
”Besides, you said it right from the start, didn’t you? ‘You have a magnificent pair’?” Juliet asked.
”I did.”
Guilty as charged. The culprit was Yasu. I definitely said that the first time we met. And then I ended up writhing on the ground after she kicked me in the thigh.
We found a bench and sat down together. We were sitting so close I could still feel Juliet’s warmth and softness.
”…I’m sorry for kicking you back then. Truly,” Juliet said.
”No, that was my fault. You have nothing to apologize for.”
”I was just riding high on being in another world. Getting personal lessons from three beauties went straight to my head. I’m sorry,” I said.
”I’m not mad anymore either. …Let’s just call it even.”
”Sounds good. Setting that aside… back when I’d invite you out for drinks, you actually came along quite a bit. What were you thinking back then?”
”For better or worse, I wasn’t really thinking anything,” Juliet replied. “Sylvie wanted to hear your stories, so I just tagged along with Ines.”
”Figured.”
Knowing Juliet’s personality, she probably didn’t have a shred of interest in our party back then. We three otakus were treated like weirdos. By the way, back then, I was basically treated like a total creep. Man, I really turned things around, didn’t I?
”I mean, I wasn’t interested, but I didn’t hate drinking with you,” Juliet said.
”Thanks.”
With Juliet, “didn’t hate it” meant “I had a great time.” All that effort paid off.
”You’re a bit of a messy drunk, though, so try to take it easy when you’re out with others,” I said.
”I’m not that bad! Probably….”
”Sorry, sorry. But you’re cute when you’re drunk, so as long as you’re with me, it’s fine.”
”…I’m not drinking with anyone but you anymore,” she said.
She blushed and looked away, but her words were pure sweetness. I couldn’t help but reach over and stroke her head.
”…Hmph.”
”Heh, you don’t have to look so mad, right?”
”…I’m not mad.”
I knew the mad look was just to hide her embarrassment, but I asked anyway. Her tone had softened so much lately; she was just incredibly precious. I pulled her closer against my side.
”Do you hate me petting you?” I asked.
”It’s okay here… but don’t do it too much in public.”
”In front of Ines and Sylvie is okay, right?”
”Those two are different.”
”Understood.”
I watched Juliet lean her head against my shoulder and sink into the moment. We eventually moved to a restaurant for dinner—a casual spot.
”Once again, thanks for coming today. Cheers,” I said.
”Cheers. It’s a date for me too, so of course I’d be here.”
Maybe because I teased her about being a messy drunk, she was staying away from the alcohol tonight.
”A lot has happened this past year,” I said.
”It has. I heard your Growth Rate was insane, but you really did go and blow past me in no time. But… I’m still grateful you saved me back with that teleportation trap. It was close.”
”You already thanked me for that, so it’s fine. I was just happy I got a date out of it,” I replied.
”That might be true, but I wanted to say it again, properly,” Juliet said. “If those Orcs had gotten me… I wouldn’t be alive. I wouldn’t have wanted to live.”
”That’s… a hard thing for me to even comment on. But I’m just glad you’re here, Juliet. I’m glad we’re together.”
Juliet was so fastidious about s*xual purity; if I hadn’t made it in time, it would have been a disaster. Juliet’s expression darkened a bit, so I decided to pivot.
”The three of you in Gale are so close. You don’t really see that in all-male parties. I’m a little jealous.”
”Yeah. I only met Sylvie a year ago, but we just clicked. She has this innocence that isn’t very Elf-like.”
”Sylvie really isn’t your typical Elf. You’ve been with Ines a lot longer, right?” I asked.
”Yeah. I’ve been with Ines for about four years. Both of them have weird taste, choosing to team up with someone like me,” Juliet replied.
As the meal wound down, Juliet shifted the conversation.
”I have something to consult with you about… or rather, something I need to tell you. Is that okay?” she asked.
”Anything.”
”You asked me about my family—my home—before,” Juliet said. “I decided I want to tell you. I can’t give you all the details yet, but I don’t get along with my parents. If we ever have to go to the Dukedom together, I’ll probably cause you a lot of trouble. I’m sorry.”
”I don’t care about that. Your parents are your parents, and you’re you. If anything, I want you to rely on me when things get rough,” I said.
”I’ll… think about it.”
I didn’t get along with my parents either, so I don’t subscribe to that family must stay together nonsense. She looked troubled.
”Don’t you trust me?” I asked.
”It’s not that I don’t, it’s just…”
If only I could take that anxiety away.
”Do you remember what I said when I confessed to you?”
”The ‘let’s stay together forever’ part?” she asked.
”Yeah. There’s something I want you to hear regarding that. Okay?”
”What is it? I’m listening.”
There was no way I was giving her up just because her parents were a pain. I’d show her my resolve.
”I… until your heart truly turns away from me, I will never betray you, I will never run away, and I will protect you with everything I have,” I said. “And I Vow this to the Gods.”
”Wait, what?! Are you insane?! What are you doing?!” Juliet cried.
Juliet lunged forward and grabbed me, completely rattled. I quietly cast a sound-dampening spell.
”Are you an idiot?! A Vow to the Gods is absolute! If you break it, there’s no escape! You can’t take it back!”
”I know. I’ve used them a few times before,” I replied.
”Then why would you make one so lightly?!”
”It wasn’t light at all. This is my Resolve.”
”Resolve?” she asked.
”In my old world, there was a standard vow for weddings: ‘I promise to love you until death do us part.’ I will cherish you until the day I die. I just wanted to show you how I feel using the laws of this world.”
”…Well, I get why you did it. I still don’t agree with it, though,” Juliet said. “But… wait, you didn’t do that for Ines and Sylvie, did you?”
”I didn’t. Juliet is the first.”
”I’m the first….”
For some reason, Juliet really fixated on that. Ines was my first girlfriend. Sylvie was my first shaving play partner. They both have one of my firsts.
”If I took your first Vow, I should probably give you something too,” Juliet said.
”Don’t force yourself. You’re my first lover, aren’t you? That’s more than enough for me.”
She gave me a sharp, skeptical look.
”You mean… you don’t want my first?” she asked.
”I want it.”
”That was fast.”
My reflexes kicked in! But Juliet’s first time? There isn’t a man alive who wouldn’t want that.
”Hah. You really are a pervert,” Juliet said.
”I am deeply ashamed. Please disregard my previous—”
”…I didn’t say I was against it.”
”Does that mean… it’s an OK?” I asked.
Juliet doesn’t say a word, but her face is bright red as she looks away and gives a small, sharp nod. I took her hand and helped her up.
Now then, I’d saved her for last… I wondered what kind of lover Juliet was going to be?

Summary:
Daisuke and Juliet finally go on their long-awaited one-on-one date, starting with a fountain meeting and a walk through twilight gardens. Juliet displays her classic tsundere personality, initially cold but physically affectionate, and even reveals her deep-seated fear of being captured by Orcs. During a serious conversation, Juliet confesses her strained relationship with her noble family and her fear of bringing Daisuke trouble in the Dukedom. To prove his commitment, Daisuke performs a binding ‘Vow to the Gods,’ promising to protect and remain loyal to her until death. This extreme gesture shocks Juliet but ultimately moves her, leading her to agree to spend her ‘first time’ with him. The date ends with a newfound sense of intimacy and mutual resolve between the two.
—
Trivia:
- Juliet’s mention of the ‘Dukedom’ and her parents foreshadows a future political conflict or a ‘return home’ arc.
- The ‘Vow to the Gods’ is established as an unbreakable magical contract, which will likely have major consequences if Daisuke is ever forced into a compromise.
- Juliet’s trauma regarding Orcs highlights the dark stakes of the world’s dungeon mechanics.
- The protagonist’s ‘Growth Rate’ is mentioned as being unnaturally high, a classic trope suggesting his eventual status as ‘World’s Strongest’
—
Character Insight:
The dynamic shifts from a playful, slightly superficial ‘harem’ date to a deeply serious commitment. Daisuke proves he is more than just a ‘mammary enthusiast’ by offering Juliet ultimate magical security through his Vow, while Juliet begins to shed her defensive tsundere shell and shows genuine vulnerability regarding her past.
—
Lore And Worldbuilding Context:
Introduced the ‘Vow to the Gods,’ a binding magical oath that cannot be retracted. Established Beastmen’s superior environmental adaptation over Humans.
—
TL Notes:
The term ‘mammary enthusiast’ (oppai-seijin) and the reference to ‘The culprit was Yasu’ are cultural memes from Japanese otaku culture, adapted here to fit the protagonist’s eccentric personality.
