Volume 6 Chapter 15 Class Change

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

When I walked Juliet back to the Gale Party’s inn, she was clinging to my arm with an intense level of closeness.

”Don’t you need to give me a ‘Princess Carry’ like you did for Sylvie?” she asked.

”As expected, that would be a bit too embarrassing out here,” I admitted.

 ”I see. That’s a shame.”

 ”…But if it’s somewhere people can’t see… then it’s okay,” Juliet said.

Her voice was too low for anyone else to hear, but her sweetness¹ is starting to peek through even in public. I’ll have to take her up on that next time.

Once we reached the inn, we said our goodbyes with a hug and a kiss. She clung to me tighter than usual today, and the kiss was a deep one. She really is a needy little sweetheart who hates being alone.

 ”Well, see you later, Juliet.”

 ”…See you, Daisuke.”

I watched Juliet enter the inn, looking back with a lingering reluctance. And with that, our one-on-one date was over.

I’d spent the night with her—though I did actually go home—and I felt like we’d grown even closer. However, Juliet still seems to have things locked away in her heart, like her family situation. I want to keep steadily building up her affection.

Fortunately, in this world, people rarely complain even if you’re dating multiple women. It’s a huge help. The three girls from Gale are all wonderful and cute, and then there’s Clarissa-san and Dietlinde-san. Choosing just one at this point would be a nightmare.

After getting home, it was time for my daily routine: Private Power Generation². I’d already showered at the hotel, but I hopped in the bath anyway just to secure some time alone.

Today’s mental partner was Juliet, of course. At first, I was having wild fantasies about taking her from behind and making her yield. But regardless of how intense things get, I think I’ll lay off that approach with a needy girl like Juliet in the future.

When I got out of the bath, Camilla was waiting for me, so we slept together again today.

 ”Goodnight, Camilla.”

 ”Goodnight, Master… Zzz…”

Camilla is a pampered soul too. She snuggles up tight against me in her sleep. Adorable. I’ve been keeping her on hold, but I really need to think about what to do with Camilla soon.

Living in this world, you occasionally pick up unintended Skills. In my case, it was “Intimidation,” which I got after meeting that Imperial Envoy scout. While there usually aren’t any “harmful” Skills, it would be bad if I accidentally picked up something from the “Divine Oracle” tree. I tend to think some pretty blasphemous thoughts, after all. I’m sure there are other Skills that would be a disaster to own.

Normally, Skill levels don’t go up unless you use them, but thanks to my Private Power Generation, mine level up on their own. I’m always grateful for that Skill, but its hidden effect of granting XP to every Skill I own can sometimes backfire. To deal with that, I acquired a Skill called “Skill Erasure.” It does exactly what it says on the tin.

I can erase my own Skills, and I can even erase others’. In this world, erasing a Skill is a very heavy deal. Basically, it’s a dangerous ability. If word got out I had it, I’d be “placed under protection” by the state or the local lords. Apparently, they use people under protection to wipe the Skills of criminals. It’s a specialized trade and they treat you well enough, so for people of this world, it’s not necessarily a bad gig.

But obviously, I have no desire to be a state asset, so “Disguise” is a mandatory combo for this Skill. Incidentally, aside from those with “Blessings,” most people—especially non-combat Classes—have very low Skill aptitude.

Normally, one might opt for a “Seal” Skill to lock abilities away, but that doesn’t work for me because of “Seal Resistance.” You can’t intentionally lower a Passive Skill like Resistance, and even if I could, it would leave me vulnerable to enemy attacks. So, I skipped that for personal use.

However, I did pick up “Seal” for other reasons. If you erase a Skill, it can be re-acquired. But if you seal it, it’s gone for good. Also, Class-specific Skills tend to pop back up immediately if erased, but a Seal keeps them down. For offensive use against others, a Seal is often the better play. Liese’s Fire and Water Magic—currently locked by her Title effects—could likely be erased with my Skill, but they’d probably just reappear in a sealed state immediately. I’m looking into a different approach for breaking her Seal.

Now, this week marks my second date with Dietlinde-san. Usually, we can’t manage any small talk, but these dates are the one time I can really get her to open up. She doesn’t seem to have much to say about her family, so I figured I’d ask about work—and maybe let her vent a little. Given her low self-esteem, she doesn’t seem the type to complain much. She’s the total opposite of Yuko, who thinks the world of herself and does nothing but complain.

When the day of the date arrived, I finished my usual dungeon crawl and headed out. By today, Liese has hit Level 18, Camilla is 17, and Ilse is 16. Tomorrow is Liese’s power-leveling day, so she’ll likely hit 19. Since their main Skills are all at Level 5 now, I’m planning to have them take the D-rank promotion exam once Ilse hits Level 20.

 ”Good evening, Daisuke-san.”

”Good evening, Dietlinde-san. You look lovely.”

Dietlinde-san appeared exactly at our meeting time. The makeup Misaki-san taught her was subtle, but it perfectly accentuated her beauty. Her chest might be modest, but her fluffy, curled white hair, those spiraling horns, and her twitching sheep ears are just incredibly cute. However, her clothes were still very formal. Plus, she looked a little haggard. I’ll have to slip her another fatigue recovery set today.

 ”…Thank you, as always.”

”It’s nothing. Are you feeling alright?”

”Yes. I’m sorry for causing you concern,” she replied.

”You have nothing to apologize for, Dietlinde-san. Shall we?”

 ”Yes.”

As we walked, she thanked me again for the honey dish. She apparently liked it so much she ate it in a trance, so I’ll have to get her more soon. But honey aside, I wanted to give Dietlinde-san a present today: clothes. Her current outfit is nice, but I think she’d look amazing in something a bit more radiant.

”So, I’d like to give you a gift. Please, pick out any outfit you like.”

 ”Eh?”

When I led her into a high-end boutique, Dietlinde-san looked utterly bewildered.

”Um… I don’t think clothes like these would suit someone like me. Besides, you’ve already given me so much, to accept this as well…”

”That’s not true at all. These clothes are exactly what you deserve. Besides, I just want to give you something, so don’t worry about it. Excuse me? Could you help her find a few outfits that would suit her?”

”Of course, sir,” the clerk replied.

The clerk led a confused Dietlinde-san toward the back of the shop. It wasn’t quite a shop for high nobility, but it was expensive enough that the service was top-notch.

While Dietlinde-san was choosing, I browsed the men’s section. Oh, I should check out the women’s accessories. It’s good for design reference, and if I see something nice, I can buy it to use as a base for my own crafting. I looked into it later, and as expected, intellectual property laws like copyrights or design rights are pretty loose here. As long as you don’t sell a fake as a brand-name original, it’s not a crime.

I’ve already decided on pendants for the three girls in Gale Party, but I want to give the others something too. Since they aren’t adventurers, it doesn’t have to be a pendant. Dietlinde-san is always exhausted, so something for stamina recovery would be best.

After waiting a while, Dietlinde-san emerged with the clerk.

”Sorry to keep you waiting, sir,” the clerk said.

”Um… I think this is far too flashy for me, but the clerk insisted it suited me…”

”Not at all. You look stunning, Dietlinde-san.”

Having traded her stiff suit for a chic, deep-green and black one-piece dress, Dietlinde-san’s image had completely transformed. She looked flustered, her cheeks flushed with color—a great gap from her usual cool demeanor. Gaps really are important.

”I’ll take it. Here’s the payment.”

 ”Thank you very much!”

”Um… is this really okay?” Dietlinde-san asked.

”Of course. Think of it as a memento of our date.”

I finished the transaction and took the bag with her old clothes. After shopping, we headed to a restaurant. Just like last time, it was a casual spot.

 ”Thanks for today. Cheers.”

 ”Cheers,” she replied.

Dietlinde-san stuck to non-alcoholic again. I tried to get her to talk about her office and her work, but again, no complaints. However, since she still looked tired, I’m sure there’s some kind of trouble brewing. Having high fortitude and not speaking ill of others are virtues, but bottling up stress is dangerous.

As we were chatting about other adventurers, she dropped a bombshell.

”Ursula-san was originally a ‘Shielder’ Class, but she became a ‘Shield Saint’ later in life. She reached A-Rank as a Shielder, took a break for a few years, and when she returned, she had become a Shield Saint. She doesn’t make a secret of it, so it’s fairly well-known in adventurer circles.”

”That’s incredible. You can actually change your Class?”

”It would seem so. Though, I’ve never heard of anyone doing it besides Ursula-san,” Dietlinde-san replied.

”Do you know what the requirements are?”

”I’m afraid not. Ursula-san is a woman of few words. Even if people ask, she doesn’t tell.”

Ursula is one of the few A-Rank adventurers in the Royal Capital. She’s a dragonewt with one broken horn, known as the “Great Shield.” I only knew her as the partner of that annoying, narcissistic “Flame Sword” Rutger, but she was sitting on a massive secret.

”I only knew she was in a two-person party with Rutger-san.”

”They are partners, but Ursula-san belongs to a party called the ‘Five Saints’,” Dietlinde-san said.

”‘Five Saints’? Does that mean there are three others?”

”Yes. As for the other members, I hear they all have ‘Saint’ in their Class name, but the details are unknown.”

If I get the chance, I definitely want to ask Ursula about the Class change requirements. I’ll need a point of contact first, but she’s always with Rutger, which makes things a pain. Well, regardless of that, I decided to invite her to some training.

”By the way, Dietlinde-san, would you like to go level-grinding with me sometime?”

 ”Level-grinding?” she asked.

”Yeah. Even if you aren’t an adventurer, being a higher level is always more convenient, right?”

”That is true… but why are you doing so much for me, Daisuke-san?”

Dietlinde-san’s expression barely shifted, but I could hear the confusion in her voice. Maybe I moved too fast.

”I’ve said it before, but it’s because I want to get closer to you. I want to be someone who can help you.”

”…I appreciate the sentiment, but there is no merit for you in being kind to me. I have no assets, no connections to powerful people. Even my appearance is nothing special,” she said.

”You are beautiful, Dietlinde-san. And connections are trivial things. If I can just be close to you, that’s more than enough for me.”

”…I don’t quite understand that feeling, but since there’s no reason for you to lie to me, I suppose it must be true.”

Her self-esteem is so low she can’t even process genuine affection. I guess I’ll just have to keep praising her until she finally realizes how charming she is.

”Like I said, you’re a wonderful woman. You’re serious about your work, you handle everything perfectly, and you’re always a huge help to me.”

 ”I… see.”

”Don’t overthink the level-grinding. To me, it’s just another date. I’ll be happy just to spend time with you, and you’ll get the benefit of a higher level.”

”…I understand. If you’re alright with it, then I would like to,” Dietlinde-san said.

”Of course. Leave it to me. Our next date is going to be in a slightly unusual spot. It’ll be exciting.”

”Yes. I look forward to it.”

Dietlinde-san, who is usually stone-faced, finally gave me a tiny smile. It’ll probably take a while longer before we’re officially together, but seeing that smile made today’s date a total success.

 Summary:

Daisuke spends an intimate moment with Juliet before returning home to Camilla and his daily routine. He explains the mechanics of his unique skills, including ‘Skill Erasure’ and ‘Seal,’ and how he manages the risk of unintended skill growth. Later, he takes Dietlinde on a date, gifting her a new dress to boost her confidence. During their dinner, he learns about ‘Class Change’ and the elite party ‘Five Saints’ through Ursula’s history. The date ends with Dietlinde agreeing to join him for level-grinding sessions. He reflects on her low self-esteem and his desire to help her recognize her own value.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Juliet’s reluctance to talk about her family suggests a future conflict or quest involving her noble or complicated lineage.

 - The ‘Five Saints’ party introduction hints at top-tier adversaries or allies with ‘Saint’ classes that Daisuke will eventually encounter.

 - The mention of ‘Class Change’ being possible through an ‘interruption of several years’ suggests a specialized evolution mechanic beyond simple leveling.

 - Daisuke’s concern over ‘Divine Oracle’ skills indicates he might be being watched by a system or higher deity that disapproves of his thoughts

 —

 Character Insight:

Daisuke is transitioning from a mere benefactor to a genuine emotional support for Dietlinde, challenging her deep-seated insecurities. Juliet’s increasing ‘dere’ side shows she is becoming more comfortable with the harem dynamic despite her initial jealousy.

 —

 Lore And Worldbuilding Context:

Skills can be erased or sealed, with sealing being permanent and preventing re-acquisition. ‘Protected’ status is a euphemism for state imprisonment of high-value skill users. ‘Saint’ classes represent the pinnacle of class evolution in this world.

 —

 TL Notes:

The term ‘Private Power Generation’ is a classic JP euphemism for m**urbation, which the author has literalized into a system skill. The distinction between ‘Erase’ and ‘Seal’ is crucial for the game-logic progression of the novel.
