Volume 9 Chapter 18 Mini-Date with Clarissa-san
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I’ve started dating Clarissa-san, which is great, but finding time for actual dates is a struggle.
To make up for it, we decided to have “mini-dates” by me walking her home once a week after her shift.
”Sorry to keep you waiting, Daisuke-san,” Clarissa said.
”Not at all. Thank you for the hard work,” Daisuke replied.
Of course, I’d just finished a day of hunting in the Dungeon, so I was technically off the clock too, but I wasn’t really tired.
My stamina has improved significantly as my Level has gone up.
The downside is that my “fuel efficiency” has tanked.
The only times I actually feel exhaustion are after a lunch meeting with Yuko or an endless battle with Elisa.
(Though that’s mostly mental fatigue…)
The weather’s been getting colder, so people in town are starting to bundle up, but today Clarissa-san chose an outfit with a bit of a loose neckline.
Her librarian uniform is professional, but this is a nice change of pace.
While she’s not quite on the level of Ines or Regina-san, her breasts are plenty large, and the fluffy fabric really emphasizes them.
(It’s honestly scandalous…)
”Daisuke-san, do you mind if I stand close?” Clarissa asked.
”Not at all,” Daisuke said.
”Thank you ♡” Clarissa replied.
Clarissa-san beamed and stepped up beside me, immediately linking her arm with mine.
I found myself being hugged by the valley of her cleavage.
(Wait, could this be!?)
”I heard you liked this sort of thing… What do you think?” Clarissa asked.
”…Yes, it’s exactly as you suspect,” Daisuke replied.
(I knew it! My fetishes have been totally leaked to the group! This is embarrassing… but also, thank you!)
Apparently, she’d heard the details from my other lovers during their get-together.
The squishy sensation of her breasts makes them the softest among all my partners.
People usually compare soft breasts to marshmallows, but these might actually be softer.
This is incredible. Since she’s offering, I’m going to savor every second of this.
”I was a little skeptical… but you really do enjoy mine, don’t you? ♡” Clarissa asked.
”I’m happy with anything you do for me, Clarissa-san,” Daisuke said.
”‘Anything’ might be an exaggeration, but thank you ♡” Clarissa replied.
Clarissa-san spoke with a look of pure joy.
I’m glad she’s happy, but the truth is I’m just a guy with a one-track mind enjoying the feeling of breasts being pressed against him.
It’s autumn now, and it gets dark early, but there are still plenty of people out and about.
I should probably show some self-restraint for now.
■
Clarissa-san is a librarian at the Royal Library.
In terms of my old life in Japan, she’d be considered a national public servant.
The job is stable and the workplace is safe, but the pay isn’t great compared to what Adventurers make.
It’s significantly lower than what C-Rankers like Ines earn.
Then again, Adventurers are basically gamblers who bet their lives every day; it wouldn’t be worth the risk if the pay weren’t high.
Ines, Vanessa, and even Grete have all come close to death in the Dungeon.
So, while the lower pay makes sense, I still want my beautiful girlfriend—or rather, girlfriends—to feel like they can treat themselves to nice clothes.
Mostly because I like seeing them look good. Who doesn’t love a beautiful woman?
”And that brings us here,” Daisuke said.
”Wait… a clothing store?” Clarissa asked.
”Exactly. Please, let me buy you a gift,” Daisuke replied.
I did something similar for Dietlinde-san once, and now it was Clarissa-san’s turn.
This shop leans a bit more into the feminine aesthetic than the one I took Dietlinde-san to.
They have different personalities and looks, so it’s only natural they’d suit different styles.
”You’ve already given me so much… I feel bad taking more,” Clarissa said.
”Don’t worry about it. This is for my benefit too,” Daisuke said.
”Um, what do you mean? Aren’t I just making you spend money? These look incredibly expensive…” Clarissa replied.
They were definitely expensive.
The prices were high enough to make gold coins vanish, the kind of luxury brand a commoner wouldn’t even dream of touching.
But as a B-Rank Adventurer, I’m pulling in a serious income. It’s not an issue.
”Listen, Clarissa-san. First of all, you are my lover,” Daisuke said.
”Yes, and I’m very grateful that you chose me,” Clarissa replied.
”I’m happy about it too. And you are a beautiful, sophisticated woman that anyone would admire,” Daisuke said.
”Calling me a ‘sophisticated beauty’ is embarrassing, but thank you,” Clarissa replied.
”It’s only natural for me to want to see a woman like you in a stunning outfit,” Daisuke said.
”Is… is that how it works?” Clarissa asked.
”It is. And I’m the one saying it, right? So have some confidence,” Daisuke replied.
”It’s hard, but… seeing me in these really would make you happy?” Clarissa asked.
”Yes. I want to see an even more wonderful version of you,” Daisuke said.
”…Alright. If you insist that much, I’ll accept the gift,” Clarissa replied.
She still looked a bit unsure, but she agreed to the present.
I had the clerk pick out some pieces that suited her and had Clarissa-san start the fitting process.
Even within “feminine style,” there’s a massive range of options.
”How does this look?” Clarissa asked.
”Wow, that’s amazing,” Daisuke said.
(It’s what I’d call ‘adult-cute.’ It has a mature, composed vibe but still feels adorable. It’s a perfect match for her.)
”Flashy outfits really do suit you. You look stunning,” Daisuke said.
”You’re overdoing the compliments, but thank you ♡” Clarissa replied.
Clarissa-san turned beet-red and acted shy, but her smile was radiant.
I ended up buying her three full outfits.
”I feel bad just being on the receiving end… Is there anything I can do for you?” Clarissa asked.
”Hmm, I wasn’t really looking for a trade… I hadn’t thought about it,” Daisuke said.
”Truly, anything is fine,” Clarissa replied.
(Wait, did she just say ‘anything’?)
(Heh heh… Well, that makes my request easy!)
”Then, I’ll take a kiss,” Daisuke said.
”That’s all? But we do that all the time,” Clarissa replied.
”True, but a kiss from you always makes me happy. It’s more than enough,” Daisuke said.
”…Alright. But I’m still a bit shy, so let’s wait until we’re somewhere private,” Clarissa replied.
(I could probably push my luck with her, but the risk of ruining the mood is too high. If we keep building this connection, things will move to that level naturally. Probably.)
■
Since the date started in the evening, we didn’t have time for a grand tour.
After leaving the boutique, we grabbed dinner at a restaurant.
Following a quiet meal, I walked Clarissa-san back to her place.
Apparently, she’s moved out of her parents’ house and lives on her own now.
”Wait! You’ve actually met the Princess?” Clarissa asked.
”Yeah. It was just a coincidence when I went to check on a Designated Request,” Daisuke said.
”Wow… I guess that’s what it means to be a B-Rank Adventurer,” Clarissa replied.
Royalty isn’t exactly accessible to the average person, so she was genuinely shocked.
(I should probably leave out the part where she tried to scout me as a pastry chef. I was too busy arguing with her maid anyway.)
”I’ve heard rumors that Princess Rosemarie is as intelligent as she is beautiful, despite her age. What was she like?” Clarissa asked.
”She was definitely cute. And yeah, I suppose she seemed intellectual,” Daisuke replied.
The first part was the truth. The second part was a total lie.
(In reality, she was double-fisting sweets and shoveling them into her mouth. There wasn’t an intellectual bone in her body at that moment. Though, to be fair, she’s still more rational than your average ten-year-old.)
”With your skills, Daisuke-san, you might end up serving the Royal Family directly someday. It sounds like something out of a storybook,” Clarissa said.
”No way. I like my life the way it is. This way, I can spend time with you,” Daisuke said.
”Oh, you… ♡” Clarissa replied.
Clarissa-san cupped her blushing cheeks and swayed happily. She was adorable.
(I definitely can’t tell her I already got an offer and turned it down. Depending on who hears that, it could be seen as Lèse-majesté. I managed to talk my way out of it, but a less patient person might have snapped. Thinking about it, that Princess is actually pretty well-bred. Her maid is a pain, but she’s a lifesaver in her own way.)
”I heard Princess Rosemarie is the sixth child of His Majesty the King. I wonder what he’s like,” Daisuke said.
”I’m just a librarian, so I’ll likely never meet him. I couldn’t say what he’s like personally… but I haven’t heard any complaints about the state of the kingdom since he took the throne,” Clarissa replied.
”That’s good to hear,” Daisuke said.
I was summoned alongside the Hero, but I’ve never laid eyes on the King.
Then again, I’m not exactly dying to meet a middle-aged dude, so I’m fine with it.
I’ve lived here for over a year now, and the economy is stable and the streets are safe.
It’s not booming, but it’s not falling apart either.
(I probably shouldn’t say it out loud, but it’s basically just ‘fine.’)
”Even you haven’t met him, Daisuke-san?” Clarissa asked.
”Nope. Though I did meet His Excellency the Prime Minister and his daughter, Martina-sama,” Daisuke said.
”What!? You met ‘The Whip,’ Martina-sama!?” Clarissa replied.
”You’ve heard of her?” Daisuke asked.
”Of course. She’s legendary… and also famously terrifying,” Clarissa replied.
As expected, Martina-sama is a celebrity even among commoners.
Apparently, she once came to the library for an inspection, and the head librarian was shaking in his boots.
She actually uncovered some misconduct during that visit and got someone fired on the spot.
(Yeah, I’d be shaking too.)
The nickname “The Whip” refers to her title, the “Whip of Maultasche.”
It fits her perfectly.
She’s also supposedly a high-level combatant, on par with a Knight.
Most nobles don’t bother leveling up that much even if they’re paranoid about assassins, so she must be a real warrior at heart.
”She’s someone we actually have a chance of seeing, so in a way, she’s more famous than the royals,” Clarissa said.
”I see. That’s impressive,” Daisuke said.
If she’s that capable, you’d think people would worry about a coup, but that’s almost impossible here.
I don’t think about it much, but this world has “Oaths” to the gods.
When officials are hired or nobles inherit their titles, they swear loyalty to the crown.
Clarissa-san had to take one too when she became a public servant.
In my old life, I signed an “oath” when I joined my company, but that was just a piece of paper.
As long as you didn’t get caught, you could break it whenever you wanted. Half the old guys at my office didn’t do a lick of work.
But an Oath to the gods carries a lot more weight.
If you break it, you’re branded with the evil-type title “Apostasy (Conditional),” and you’re immediately fired.
Apparently, at least one person a year loses their job because of it.
That’s why Inquisitor Haida and the guard Karl wouldn’t accept any gifts from me after the mess with Gerta.
Of course, since people can get that Title for other reasons—like marriage, which applies to me and Meta—you never know exactly why someone has it, but proving your innocence is nearly impossible.
Anyway, a coup d’état is a non-starter because it would trigger “Apostasy.”
If someone were to try it, they’d need an insane amount of resolve.
It’s a great system for the people in power, but it’s not a perfect shield.
If the government gets too corrupt, the people will still riot, and the rulers themselves might end up with evil Titles.
It forces the people at the top to exercise some self-restraint.
”Well, a plain old Adventurer like me isn’t going to have many chances to meet her,” Daisuke said.
”I feel like someone with your talent might get scouted eventually…” Clarissa replied.
”I doubt it. I’m sure Martina-sama is way too busy to worry about one random Adventurer,” Daisuke said.
Still, if I ever catch her eye for the wrong reason, I might get a summons.
So far, the duel with Gerta and the Designated Request haven’t landed me in hot water.
(I doubt I’m on her radar yet.)
”And we’re at your place,” Daisuke said.
”Yes. I know what comes next ♡” Clarissa replied.
Without me needing to say a word, Clarissa-san pulled me into a soft hug.
I let myself sink into the feeling of her breasts squishing against me.
Since we were in a dark alleyway, she was being quite bold.
”Here’s your thank-you kiss… mnh ♡”
Today’s kiss was more passionate than usual. I could feel all her love and gratitude behind it.
She wasn’t quite “in heat” yet, but she was definitely feeling a bit of a spark.
”…Phew ♡ I don’t want to say goodbye, but I’ll see you again on Yellow Day,” Clarissa said.
”Yeah. Goodnight, Clarissa-san,” Daisuke said.
”Goodnight, Daisuke-san ♡” Clarissa replied.
I watched Clarissa-san head inside with a pep in her step.
Alright, time to get back to the grind tomorrow. I need to keep the gold and the Levels coming in.
