Volume 1 Chapter 2

I was standing on the beach.

 It was early morning.

Behind me was a beautiful ocean, and in front of me was a thick, green forest.

Just like in the videos I saw, it really was a lonely island in the middle of nowhere. I must have teleported to the Island of Trials that the Goddess mentioned.

My goal is to survive. But since this is a trial as a Hero Candidate, I feel like just hiding won’t help me pass it. I wasn’t even told how long I need to survive.

Of course, I probably have to defeat the Demonkind, but right now, I have no way to fight. I don’t have any weapons, and for some reason, I was wearing my Academy uniform.

If I start exploring the island in this state, I can only see a future where I die quickly.

Without hesitation, I used ‘Base Magic’.

In an instant, the scenery around me changed, and I teleported to a small, empty room.

It was pitch dark because there was no light, but there was one source of light.

In the center of the room, something like a display was floating. The image was just hanging in the air. There didn’t seem to be a projector, so it was probably created by magic.

There was nothing else in the room. It was a closed space with just walls and a floor.

I guess this is my base, but there’s really nothing here.

Looking at the screen, it showed only 2 things: ‘Base Points: 100pt’ and ‘Point Shop.’ I wondered if it was a touch screen.

I touched it carefully, and the screen changed.

’Point History: Initial points have been granted. +100pt’

So, when I touch Base Points, the history shows up. The Point Shop… well, it’s just like the name says. It shows categories like ‘Weapons,’ ‘Food,’ ‘Daily Goods,’ ‘Furniture,’ and ‘Facilities.’

It’s nice that there’s a search and filter function. I wonder who made this.

I decided to check the category labeled ‘Recommended Items for Beginners.’

Bottled Water 10pt, Portable Food 10pt, Sleeping Bag 20pt, Small Backpack 300pt. Life on the island seems like it could get a lot easier.

The problem is how to earn points. If it’s easy to earn them, that would be great, but if I have to defeat the Demonkind to get points… then I definitely need a weapon first.

There are all kinds of weapons for sale, but with my current points, I can only buy 2 things: a Knife for 50pt and a Poison Knife for 100pt. I wonder if poison works on the Demonkind. I don’t know, but I don’t think I can defeat them with just a regular knife.

Setting up the basics for survival is important, but I’m taking this trial as a Hero Candidate. I should probably focus on fighting.

It’s a gamble, but I’ll take one Poison Knife and head out to explore the island.

If this ends up being useless, it’ll be the start of a survival life without magic. I can only see a future where I die quickly, but I’ll try my best to fight.

’Seraph (Isto) has confirmed your blessing.’

 Huh?

After buying the Poison Knife, a new message appeared.

’You can now learn a new magic. Checking suitability for Second Magic…’

My big sister said she would watch over me. Those words must not have been a lie. She may seem cold because her expression doesn’t change much, but she really cares about me deep down. She’s always been that kind of person.

’You have learned ‘Eros Magic’. Starting fusion with Base Magic.’

Big sister, I’m really sorry. The gift from you turned into ‘Eros Magic’. I have no face to show you.

* * *

In Heaven, in a pure white space.

Two members of the Godborn were carefully watching the actions of the Hero Candidate.

Out of the dozens of candidates, they were focused on one boy.

 Hyakudou Koushi.

Seraph loved this human, and even the Goddess of Order was interested in him. He had a strong body and sharp eyes like his sister. When he kept quiet, he looked so powerful that even a Demonkind might feel scared.

 ”Isto, Base Magic sounds fun!”

”Koushi liked games, so I guess it changed to fit his tastes.”

”If it were me, I would just take a regular knife, some water, and food… maybe even a sleeping bag. I’m pretty practical, you know.”

”Goddess of Order doesn’t need weapons or food. She doesn’t even need to sleep.”

”Oh, that’s harsh. Making realistic comments in role play… What have you learned in the human world?”

”Don’t worry. My cold attitude only applies to certain people.”

”My Seraph not getting close to me…”

They were having a cheerful conversation, but suddenly, Seraph Isto changed the topic.

”By the way, about my blessing…”

”Huh? Oh, I don’t mind. It feels a bit unfair, though.”

 ”Thank you for your kindness.”

”Still, it’s surprising that Isto cares so much about one human.”

”I’ve been watching over him since he was born.”

”Really? But that’s too bad. If he doesn’t have any battle Magic, it’ll be tough to get through the Trial.”

”I’m not worried about that. Koushi is a strong kid.”

The Goddess of Order kept her usual smile while watching Isto’s profile. It was rare for her to be so focused on Hyakudou Koushi’s actions.

(A human without attack Magic can’t survive on the Island of Trials. Isto must know that.)

Honestly, the Goddess of Order felt a bit disappointed. She thought it was strange that someone like Seraph (Isto) was blinded by love and couldn’t make the right judgment.

Still, she held a small hope.

(What kind of face will Isto make when this human dies in a pathetic way?)

She wanted to see that expression change. The interest the Goddess of Order had in Hyakudou Koushi was just that much.

* * *

About ten minutes into exploring the forest.

More and more things were bothering me. One of the weirdest things was that I couldn’t find any bugs anywhere.

Even when I looked at the ground, not a single ant was in sight. I saw some suspicious mushrooms and fruits, but there were strangely no bugs around.

Including that, I thought this Island was relatively easy to live on.

While walking, I found a river, so I didn’t think I’d have too much trouble finding food and drink. Of course, that’s if I didn’t think about the dangers.

If I didn’t have Base Magic, I might have considered eating the mushrooms and fruits growing around, but as long as I could earn points, I could get safe food. There was no need to take risks just to check if something was edible.

The problem was that I didn’t know how to earn points.

I guess I have to defeat the Demonkind or something.

Before reaching the river, I spotted a creature in the distance. But since I didn’t know how strong it was, I avoided fighting. I couldn’t keep hiding forever, so maybe it was time to make up my mind.

I went back to where I saw the Demonkind and carefully looked at them.

’Goblin. A small demon from the Demonkind, known for being cunning. Males tend to kill immediately, while females are taken back to their nest.’

A small, see-through window appeared, giving me a detailed explanation.

What was most helpful was the note saying ‘Defeat Points: 5pt.’ Since water and food were each 10pt, I wanted to defeat at least 4 of them today.

I decided to stop hiding and ambush the Goblin.

The Goblin noticed me getting closer, but it didn’t panic at all. It calmly got ready with its dagger. Before I could close the distance, the Goblin jumped at me. Not being scared of a surprise attack shows it’s used to fighting. The Demonkind is tough; they make quick decisions. I felt like I might get rattled instead.

It looked powerful and had potential, but its size was just too different.

I grabbed the Goblin’s head in mid-air and slammed it down to the ground.

Without wasting any time, I slashed its neck with my knife, and a message popped up.

 ’You gained 5 points’

That was quick. Is that all?

If there were a lot of them, it would be a problem, but one-on-one is no big deal.

 ──Oh no, I forgot.

I forgot to test the poison’s effect. Next time, I’ll make a shallow cut on purpose to see how well the poison works.

”…Isto, explain this. How can a regular student be so good at fighting?”

When the Goddess of Order asked, Isto seemed to drift back into memories.

”Since I was little, I’ve made Koushi train every single day. Seeing my little brother trying so hard to get up even while spitting blood made me realize. ──True family love is something so precious.”

Seeing Isto act so strangely, the Goddess understood.

(That human is pitiful. Just because Isto is his sister, he was abused every day.)

Making someone train until they spit blood is a huge burden, especially for someone from Earth. The Goddess knew that this was close to abuse.

”Isto, didn’t you learn the common sense of human society?”

”Of course, I did. But no matter how much I hurt him… Koushi still called me his precious sister. Family love sometimes goes beyond the law.”

Wasn’t it just that he couldn’t go against his absolute sister?

The Goddess thought this but decided not to say it. Different families have different ways of raising their kids, and if it resulted in a strong person, that was good for the Godborn.

”Isto. Just so you know, I ordered you to find a Hero Candidate, not to raise one.”

”I’m very sorry. I’m ashamed for acting on my own.”

”So, if other gods complain, all the responsibility falls on you, Isto. Don’t forget that.”

 ”Yes.”

With that, the Goddess of Order felt a bit more at ease. The remaining issue was the human that Isto had “trained.”

(When I meet him, I’ll be a little kind. It seems my Isto has caused him trouble for a long time.)

It was rare for the Goddess of Order to feel sympathy for a human.
