I block Takaizumi’s Holy Sword with a Battle Axe.
”Hey, are you serious? No need to suddenly attack like that.”
As I pushed back with all my strength, Takaizumi looked confused. It was like my actions surprised him.
”I didn’t plan to go this far to her…”
Even as he said that, he didn’t slow down swinging the Holy Sword. The shining blade, filled with killing intent, was coming at me fast.
Oh right, we were dealing with those Demon general class Succubi.
I forcefully knocked the Holy Sword away and kicked Takaizumi in the torso.
”Mizui, it’s healing magic. This guy is probably being controlled by Demonkind.”
I made Mizui drink a healing potion, even though she was sitting down.
”Hyakudou…”
Mizui gasped as she looked behind me. She seemed really shocked. When I turned around, a female Demonkind with black wings was landing. Tsurué and Tadahara were standing by her like loyal followers. Takaizumi got up and pointed the Holy Sword at us.
”Well, everyone’s here. This saves me the trouble of searching.”
I readied my double axes to face them.
”…Aren’t you going to run?”
”I’m finishing this here. If I kill the Demonkind, the 3 of you should come back to their senses.”
Takaizumi was the first to charge in.
The handsome guy looked a bit sorry, but he attacked with full force. While I was dodging his strikes, Tadahara closed the distance. He seemed experienced in fights, and his positioning was annoying. He was tall and built, maybe even tougher than Takaizumi.
”Sorry, Hyakudou. Try to dodge somehow.”
Tadahara warned me in a low voice, wearing knuckle dusters on both fists. I remembered that he could use foresight magic.
I tripped Takaizumi, making him lose his balance, then charged at him to create a one-on-one situation with Tadahara. I dodged his right straight punch with minimal movement and swung my Battle Axe diagonally from below. He easily stepped back to avoid it, but I didn’t care and kept attacking.
”Oh…”
Tadahara let out a surprised sound while keeping me at bay with sharp jabs. His foresight magic is strong, but it feels like a game of chess. If I keep attacking, I can eventually create a situation he can’t escape from due to our skill difference. If Tadahara’s physical abilities were better than mine, I would have lost…
”Sorry, but the difference in our skills is huge.”
I created an unavoidable situation and slammed the side of my Battle Axe into Tadahara, pushing him down to the ground. I swung the Battle Axe down at his legs to keep him from moving. Tadahara’s scream echoed through the forest, and a moment later, water magic support came flying in.
As I backed away, I knocked away the water balls with my Battle Axe while dodging Takaizumi’s Holy Sword. He attacked with fierce sword skills, flowing like water, but no matter how many times he came at me, I felt like I wouldn’t get hit.
With light movements, the shining Holy Sword danced gracefully. I recognized the artistry, but that’s all it was. There were too many unnecessary moves.
”I have to say, I can’t keep up…”
I lightly tapped my Battle Axe on Takaizumi’s shoulder, enough to incapacitate him without killing him.
The two men fell down.
Now it was just Tsurué and the Succubus left.
”You’re more like a monster…”
Tsurué shot water balls at me with a twisted expression on her face.
I kicked off the ground, blocking countless attack spells with my Battle Axe as I closed the distance to the Succubus.
The Succubus, who hadn’t moved until now, faced me with her palm out.
I felt a bad vibe and quickly jumped to the side.
…Nothing happened. Was I too cautious?
I feel like the Succubus is looking at me, confused. Did her charm magic fail?
”Hyakudou, run away!”
Maybe because I gave Tsurué some time, a strong current was rushing in.
Before getting caught up in it, I somehow teleported to the Base space.
”Hiiragi, Mayuki! Help me out a bit!”
I quickly explained the situation, and Hiiragi nodded right away.
”So, I just need to carry you and teleport, right?”
”Yeah. If possible, teleport behind the Succubus. Mayuki, I need you to stop the water flow. Can you do that?”
”Okay, I’ll try.”
With the worried looks from the others, the 3 of us teleported to the Island.
Immediately, Mayuki activated her ice magic, freezing the raging water. Now, Mizui and the others were safe from being swept away.
”Here we go.”
Hiiragi hugged me from behind and activated the teleportation magic.
Just as planned, we appeared behind the Succubus. Before it could turn around, I swung my Battle Axe down onto its back. I struck the Succubus’s head with the Battle Axe again as it staggered.
’Demon general class Succubus defeated. +6000pt’
…Yeah, it was definitely the right choice to rely on my friends. It was over quickly.
”Koushi. Should we freeze those people too?”
”Why? They weren’t much of a threat, so it doesn’t matter.”
”Haha… you’re harsh.”
It seems like Mizui’s healing magic worked, as Takaizumi and the others slowly got up.
”Hyakudou, I’m sorry. Thank you for saving us without killing.”
Tadahara bowed his head sincerely.
”I’m sorry too. Even though I was controlled, it was an unforgivable mistake.”
Takaizumi also put his Holy Sword back in its sheath and sincerely apologized.
”Hyakudou, thank you for helping everyone!”
Mizui also bowed her head slightly, showing a bright smile.
These guys really know how to be human. They never forget to say thanks or apologize. No wonder they were a popular group in class.
”…I appreciate it, but you’re not trying anything with Yuuri, right?”
Tsurué shot me a sharp glare. Takaizumi seemed a bit anxious about it too, fidgeting strangely.
”I didn’t do anything. Right, Hiiragi?”
”Yeah. No lies here.”
When I explained that Hiiragi could see through lies, Takaizumi finally looked relieved.
”By the way, why the maid outfit? Are you from Another World!? This is my first time meeting you!”
Tsurué’s eyes sparkled with excitement. She usually had a bad attitude, but she was fun to be around, so I didn’t dislike her that much.
”Sorry to burst your bubble, but she’s not from Another World.”
”Nice to meet you. I’m Hiiragi Tsubaki, the maid of Mr. Hyakudou. It’s an honor to meet your friends.”
”When did you become my maid? You’re just a stray maid, right?”
Hiiragi just kept smiling. Such a secretive person.
”Anyway, Koushi. Should we freeze her after all?”
”Who are you talking about? It better not be me.”
Mayuki seemed unusually grumpy. She’s always been shy, but showing this much hostility was rare. Her expression looked calm, but if you looked closely, you could see she was angry.
”Pointing a sword and using magic, why do you think you’re still alive?”
Mayuki started freezing the ground around Takaizumi and the others. When their lower bodies were completely frozen, Takaizumi and Tsurué tried to move, sensing danger.
”You can’t win. My ice can freeze magic too.”
Takaizumi’s arm, which was reaching for the Holy Sword, froze completely without him being able to do anything. The 4 of them couldn’t move at all.
”Mayuki. You don’t need to go that far.”
She glanced at me.
”Okay. Can I go home now?”
”Yeah. Thanks for helping out.”
When Mayuki returned to Base, the ice magic started to melt.
The freed Tsurué muttered softly.
”…Isn’t your childhood friend a bit scary?”
”Yeah, when Mayuki gets mad, she’s really scary. I’ll make it up to her later, so try not to be too scared.”
Since a long time ago, she would easily get worked up when it came to me. It felt nice that she was getting angry for me, even though I rarely got mad.
”You are loved, huh?”
Hiiragi teased me with a smile.
